Had a great experience at Harvest and Ale. The atmosphere is cozy and casual--perfect for a relaxed night out. Calvin behind the bar was fantastic and made an incredible fresh-squeezed blood orange margarita. The food really stood out. The brie with blueberry sauce was a perfect sweet-savory combo, and the wings were packed with flavor. My burger (loaded with cheddar, egg, and bacon) was massive and cooked just right. Bun also made in house. The homemade pickles had a nice kick, and the haystack onion rings were super crispy. We ended with tiramisu and blueberry cheesecake--both delicious and made in house. Friends invited us to join them for dinner at Harvest and Ale this evening. This was our first time there. Ambience was very nice, service was okay, food was delicious BUT the sound level at dinner seating was incredible! They really need to install sound deadening absorption materials. We were at a 4-top and at times had difficulty hearing one another. Instead of relaxing and chatting after dinner we decided to leave due to the incredible noise level. We may not go back again for a dinner seating. Great food, but too noisy for conversations. Very disappointed. read more

My children brought me here for Mother's Day and I definitely was not disappointed. Everything was soooo delicious and fresh! Their peach bruschetta was delectable as well as the entrees and desserts we tried. The tiramisu was so good I can drool just talking about it. My daughter told me that they're constantly changing their menu based on the fresh ingredients that are available for the season. I'm going with a 4 based more on a combination of my first time here which was a bridal shower and my last visit for dinner with friends. The ambiance here is very nice. Rustic charm. I didn't like that I had to valet. Seemed unnecessary midweek. The service was ok. I like they give a bread basket in the beginning and had delicious honey butter in it. For entree I choose a Kale salad with butternut squash and added shrimp. I wish the kale was massaged that would have been better. Maybe it's because I asked for the dressing on the side? And the butternut squash was slightly under done but it was still ok. I would return but I'd try something else. read more

The seasonal cocktails - pumpkin margarita and pumpkin espresso martinis were highlights. Two favorite appetizers that we liked were the squash arancini and filet crostini. There were a handful of specials for the night. However, I decided to go with the squash and farro salad. That had a great flavor. The tiramisu was great - lots of cream was layered. Ever crave tapas and bevyssss and not know where to go? Well I advise you to check out THIS SLEEPER. To my understanding it's not actually known as a tapas bar but it does have loads of light bites on their menu. Every time we go we actually stick to getting mostly a bunch of small plates and then potentially splitting one large entrée it gives you an opportunity to really dance across their menu. Not only is the food decadent, but their cocktails are made well and their ambience is dynamic great for dates, friends, and even family outings. The main level is more of a casual feel with their bar and the second floor gives me a little bit more late night date night vibes. But both could be leverage for either. Their services always been very on point if I were to make any recommendations, I would say the goat cheese, beet salad is a show stopper, but if you want to experience heaven on Earth, definitely try the pork scratching. I also never met a fillet Cristini that I didn't like and their squash ravioli is worth your time. First time here, last time here. To start, the parking lot is small, so they offer complementary valet parking. All well and good, except that the valet kept making different hand signals to people walking, to cars coming out, to cars coming in, and almost caused an accident. When he took our keys, he wished us "bon appétit," and complimented my jacket, so OK, situation retrieved. When we entered the restaurant, two teenage hostesses just looked at us until we said, "uh, table for two." Red flag number two. We didn't have a reservation, so we sat at the bar. It was around 6:00 PM on a Saturday night, and the place was busy, but we got a spot. Harvest and Ale bills itself as farm-to-table, and the barman, our server, did indicate that the side vegetables were what were currently in season. However, the menus are laminated, which tells me that they don't change them very often based on the season or what's locally available. Red flag number three. The food was... OK. The sauces definitely had that "out of a bucket" taste that we got to enjoy as they repeated for the rest of the night. It pains me to write this - the food and the wait staff are superb...However, the rules handed out by the "hostesses" have just lost this restaurant a very good customer. 1st problem - Made a reservation via Resy - the app had a "glitch" and the hostess could not do anything to help us. 2nd problem - Reminded us several times of the 2 hour limit - each time sounded worse than the last. 3rd problem - Called for reservation, was advised they were booked and I said -no worries, I'll call in my order later and pick it up". The hostess said - "sounds good thanks". Only when I called my order in, the restaurant does not do take out on Friday and Saturday. Sounds to me that you have enough business and don't need mine. I ordered a glass of red wine. There was only one label available by the glass. I did not expect it to be good however, since it was Cabernet, I did expect it to be room temperature. It came very cold. I asked the bartender why is this cold she said if you order wine by the glass, even if it is Cabernet, it is cold. I said to her there must be a bottle of this wine that is not in the refrigerator already. She said no you can only get room temperature wine if you get the bottle. This town definitely needed a new and foodie place, so many Italian restaurants and pizzerias it was nice to finally dine out on a more modern farm to table type menu. They have really taken the farm to table concept and made it into a tasty adventure in locally sourced ingredients. I particularly loved the wings, they were seasoned well and were delicious with out the sauce but the sauce was a nice add on. I also ordered the scallops and that was delicious I wiped my plate clean. The smoky peach cocktail was great if you love whiskey. My husband ordered a burger and fries and it was a great portion and the fries were delicious and not overly greasy. All around our experience was great, only one little delay in my second drink but otherwise the staff were super helpful and attentive. Was going in here with not the highest expectations as many reviews of this place were not the best and many spoke of small portions and bad service, but I got the opposite. The ambiance and vibe of the place was pretty nice, thought it was a tad loud. The service was very friendly and constantly on top of task and very efficient. Adorable new restaurant with wonderful apps and drinks! The inside is very cute and farmhouse-esque with a full bar both upstairs and downstairs. Our waiter, Tyler, was incredibly friendly. So last nights meal at harvest and ale was excellent. Our server scarlet was exemplary. She was informative and quick w our drinks. The ambiance of the place is very casual and inviting. Our table was cozy but not crowded. To start the table enjoyed butter shrimp and wings and salads to start were all on point. I had their farm burger which I can't say enough good things about. I do wish the French fries were a little soggy. My wife had the scallops dish and while I only had a bite I will recommend. Dessert of chocolate mousse w ice cream chips and whipped cream was simple but tasty. I def look forward to going back. FYI all the craft cocktails were excellent. read more

My first experience when they first opened was good. So I returned again on a Sunday afternoon. Service was terrible, food wasn't hot, I had soup and a turkey burger. They forgot condiments or silver ware until after the meals were delivered and there was miscommunication about my drink, the waitress had no clue what the bar had. So I asked for a cider and she brought me a hard seltzer with vodka. I took a sip and realized it wasn't cider and she never came back to my table to check on us so when she did come I told her about my drink and she argued with me and charged me. She didnt apologize or offer me anything else. I really like the convenience of having a restaurant in Oakland but I am hesitant to return. It costs a lot to eat out and have an appetizer or dessert or drink with your meal plus a tip. I don't feel warranted to return. I gave it a rating of 3 because first time was better. read more

Wow talk about delicious! Harvest and Ale is an absolute gem and I can't wait to come back! My two girlfriends and I got 8PM reservations and arrived on time. Valet in the parking lot is an added plus. We walked in and were taken to our table almost immediately which I loved because ya girl was hungry and ready to eat! We were sat upstairs in a large room that was very inviting from the lighting to the decor I felt rite at ease. Our waiter came over to get our drink orders in and they arrived super quick! The glasses were so unique for some of the cocktails one reminded me of a fancy feast glass lol but everything was very refreshing and quenched our thirst. For appetizers we ordered the filet crostini, pork scratchings, the baked brie and the crab tartlet. The pork scratchings were by far my favorite OMG talk about pork heaven. The filet crostini were tender and absolutely delicious! The baked brie was to die for! Seriously I wish I had that rite now. The crab tartlet was served just one large flaky pastry topped with crab meat and was delightful! For our main entrees I got the barn wood salmon, my girlfriends opted for the open face steak sandwich and the chicken artichoke cassette. The salmon was bomb! I just recently started eating salmon and this is by far the best I have had to date. It was cooked on a piece of wood and had this delicious sweet sauce drizzled on top. Absolute perfection if you ask me. My friends seemed to really enjoy both of their meals. We ordered the chocolate moose for dessert to split since we were all so stuffed. This was a $250 disappointment. We arrived early for our 8pm reservation, so we sat at the bar to get a pre- dinner drink. As we waited to order, we noticed multiple people try to get the bartender's attention and fail. She finally acknowledged us and we received our drinks. "Ale" is in the name, so we expected a decent beer list... they have an okay selection. Everything here is overpriced for what you get, but I enjoyed my cocktail because I didn't know it was $16 when I ordered it. We were seated upstairs. The tables are placed close together, but the decor/ambiance is nice. The service just got worse and worse. Our server tried to get us to order drinks and appetizers as soon as we sat down. Once we ordered, she never came back. We had appetizer plates on our table the entire meal. My friends never had a chance to order second drinks. The food is okay. The fries are soggy and sad. My friend said the tenderloin was over salted. They only gave 2 crostini slices with a huge wedge of baked brie. When our server finally acknowledged our empty plates, I asked for the check. Her mood immediately changed and she took 2 of our plates and walked away. We waited a while for our check and for her to take our cards. When she brought our cards back she said "here." And tossed the check holder on the table and walked away. We won't be back. This place tries way too hard to be an NYC restaurant and the service fails every step of the way. This is my third time dinning here, and not sure what they did but it was a-lot better than my last visits. the ambiance here is great. it has a great feel, nicely designed and decorated. nice bar and even nicer dining areas. The upstairs is probably even nicer than down. When we entered we were greeted by a very nice young lady who smiled and said hello. Service, as I didn't have a drink at the bar , the bartender was pleasant and attentive. Our waitress upstairs was Mel (not sure if that was short for her name) but she was wonderful. She was everything you would expect. Food, we started out with Goat cheese fritters that were delicious. Then we ordered a Crab Tarlet, which wasn't very good. It was a type of crab cake sitting on-top of what appeared to me a type of flakey dough cup, which was very dry and hard. The crab topping was ok. I had the Quinoa and chickpea salad which was perfect. Everything about it was spot on. Just enough of everything to make it a perfect salad. wasn't over or under dressed. Will definitely be going back to try their other salads. My one dining companion had a special which was the tuna, which was delicious. The dish came with what looked like hand cut potatoes which were fried. As the dish was excellent, the only call out would be that as the potatoes were all different sizes one was so big it was not cooked and hard. My second dining companion had the Free Range Quiche. She said it was very good. As I didn't taste it, I be was a bit skeptical as the quiche were sitting on-top of the same flakey dough cups as the crab tartlet. Had the meat and cheese board to start, and my husband had a burger, while I enjoyed the beet salad with added salmon. Portions did not disappoint, and the salmon was cooked perfectly (I'm really picky about salmon being over cooked). I had the mulled cider (felt appropriate on such a cold evening) and Husband tried 2 different beers. We were too full for dessert.
