Definitely a japanese place deserving of 4 stars! Yelp reviews didn't lie on this little gem! We came when it opened around 6 and it was mostly a family oriented feel. Our server brought out complimentary appetizers and shortly took our order. What I love about this place: 1) Low key 2) Amazing sushi - great quality, much better than izayaka 3) kushiyaki - also delicious! On par with izayaka 4) perfect service - our server was friendly and checked up on us frequently. She made us feel at home. 5) authentic - over half the customers were japanese. That says enough... 6) the rolls were the bomb! I was disappointed the other day trying another place, but huru ichiban made up for it :)) Definitely going to be my go to sushi spot in ATL. Came here on Valentine's Day with my bf. We waited for almost 20+ mins for a table. We ordered: Chicken karaage and "Daimyo"  Deluxe Dozen: Deluxe Sashimi (Fatty Tuna, Yellow Tail,  Flounder, Sweet Shrimp), Sushi (Salmon roe & Sea Urchin), Assorted Tempura, Rice, Miso Soup, Pickles, & choice of main dish item from below: B.B.Q. Eel The karaage was very crispy and the meat inside was still juicy. It goes well with the fresh shredded cabbage. Everything in the Daiymo Deluxe Dozen was delectable. It was my first time having Sea Urchin, and I don't think I am a fan. The rest tasted really good and not heavy tasting. Even if you don't get the dozen, the BBQ Eel is a must get, that sauce they used was really good! We also asked for green tea, and they use the matcha kind and did not taste diluted at all. Well, my husband and I joined some friends for a lovely sushi dinner. Everyone had a great time, however what I ordered I didn't care for. But, I have no problem going back because they have so much more to try and the atmosphere was great and really kinda laid back and inviting. It was an enjoyable place and I did enjoy my evening out with friends. My husband and his brother shared a sashimi plate of what was the best things the chef had. They both enjoyed it very much. The presentation was spectacular also. Very very pretty. Leighton ordered an onigiri since he felt bereft without rice in his meal. They were monstrous! Very large onigiri and looked wonderful. I want to try those too sometime. I love the china they use there. The rabbit spoon bowl is my absolute favorite. It's so adorable. And they have really good hot green tea there too. ^.^ On a different visit, my husband ordered pork ramen in a cream broth. He liked it, but said next time he will get a clear broth instead. It looked and smelled yummy. The bowls were monstrous and definitely filled you up. And pretty darn cheap too, only 7 bucks I think. I ordered the Kitsune Udon . It looked lovely, but unfortunately I didn't care for it very much. I prefer a slightly over cooked udon (I know! Sacrilege!) and theirs are slightly undercooked in my opinion. I also like a lighter broth and this was pretty dark. The tofu skin was thicker than I was used to which is great, but it was much sweeter. Look around you. The clientele is 90% or more Japanese and the America-jin that you see are mostly regulars. This will either be your heart's desire or this is not the sushi you are looking for. If you want a cutesy roll, go somewhere else. If you want it the Japanese way, tadaima ([you are] home). Probably a good place to cut the review, but I have to brag on their kurage (jellyfish). Haru Ichiban is, in my opinion, probably the most well-rounded Japanese restaurant. While sushi is definitely the main draw, I have been pleasantly surprised by their ramen and other dishes. I always make sure to get takoyaki and then just get whatever entree I'm feeling for the day, which is sushi more often than not. The quality of the food is always great and I am always left satisfied. Service is fantastic. It is usually pretty crowded and I have to wait more often than not, but it is well worth it. I've been coming here since I was young and they are usually on point and reliable with their quality of food. Staffs are also very friendly. We ordered cream korokke, avocado dome salad with salmon, oishi roll, super dragon roll, haru ichiban sushi assortment, tempura udon and kitsune udon. I am very disappointed that I did not find out about this local gem any sooner. By far this is the best place for Ramen...it is also the best place to get fatty tuna. I heard that the owner of Shoya use to work here as a chef so all the appetizers are similar in taste but since this place is located in Gwinnett the price is more gentle. I ordered a Ramen Gozen Dinner(this dinner could feed 2 people), it comes with: your choice of Ramen(I choose the Miso Ramen which is cooked in miso chicken broth, roasted pork and veggies), shumai(shrimp dumpling), dessert, and an assortment of traditional side dishes. My friend ordered veggie tempura and teriyaki salmon which is also delicious. The Tonkatsu Ramen is also good if you prefer the more creamy broth. Came here to meet my sister for a quick lunch. Place is located in an old parking lot near The Melting Pot, off pleasant hill rd. Walking in, you'll notice the place is pretty crammed inside, but they were very busy. It was fairly loud on this visit and I didn't glance too long at the menu. I ended up ordering a sushi lunch special, that came with 8 small Cali rolls, 6 pieces of nigiri sushi, salad and miso soup. The meal was $10, which wasn't bad at all. The miso soup was good and salad as well. Nothing great, but nothing bad. My sushi was ok, I ate all of it but nothing to note in terms of it being above average. The rice on the Cali rolls was dry, and that turned me off. The wasabi packed a punch, though, and that saved the meal. Service was average for me. My sister, her boyfriend and his daughter ordered sushi rolls and they all looked really good. I give them a 4 on presentation of the rolls. They ordered a plate for the table called the Hotlanta, and it was awesome. I'd come back just for that. It had sashimi salmon and tuna, tossed in sesame oil and served with jalapeños. I've tried ramen, sushi, rice bowls, sashimi, and various appetizers here. They never disappointed. My favorite dishes to order are the chirashi deluxe and chirashi supreme (comes with uni and fatty tuna). Granted, the place wasn't packed or anything, but I appreciated the attentiveness. Very Disappointing. My heritage is Japanese so I think I know Japanese food. I've been here several times and ordered several different items on the menu each time hoping that certain items might be better than others. Tempura was overly battered, if it wasn't for the Tonkatsu sauce on the Okinomiyaki it wouldn't have had any flavor. Chicken teriyaki wasn't even marinated in the sauce and then cooked, just sauce on the side of grilled chicken! Ramen noodles have no flavor. Definitely, not going back or recommending this restaurant. The website states 2008/2009 Zagat rating. That was many years ago, it has gone down hill. read more

Honestly, I did even get to try the food. I went in by myself. They had a TOTAL of three small groups seated, and nobody waiting. Since it was so spectacularly slow, I requested a booth. They gave me a hard time telling me how difficult it would be to accommodate me. So, I left. There are literally dozens of various Asian restaurants almost within walking distance, never mind quick drives. If I had rated Haru Ichiban a few years ago I probably would have given it only 3 stars; in the past when I came here the ramen was spectacular, but the sushi was disappointing. However, I returned recently after a year long hiatus and the sushi selection and quality was MUCH improved. Now the ramen is spectacular as well as the sushi! As a note, this place is great for groups of 8-10, as they have a number of private rooms on the left side of the restaurant. Loving this place. Only experienced lunch as a single at the bar so this review is based on those experiences. But lunch menu is great you can get a full sashimi and sushi plate with large cuts of fresh fish and soup and salad for around $15. The sashimi cuts are massive and rice thin on the rolls--- great bang for your buck. Service is quick and lot of sushi bar seating. Highly reccomend a casual sushi experience here. The fish is always fresh, the staff always polite, the atmosphere always calm, and if you go alone and eat at the bar you can be mildly entertained by the chef staff behind the bar who are always Pleasant and jovial. Lately I've been feeling like I took so many of my favorite regular places for granted. Haru Ichiban has always been my staple for sushi. I've eaten there many many times. Tonight I got some takeout and remembered just why I love them so much. The sushi is so fresh and the rolls are so tasty. The menu is EXTENSIVE and pretty much has everything you could ever want as far as sushi - they even have a natto roll! I've loved everything I've ever had here. We decided to go there after a run at Stone Mountain one day because I saw some great picture of the bento box on Yelp.com. But when I got there I didn't see the ones I want and heard that their ramen is great so I end up ordering the noodle combo with mini unagi don. I think tonkatsu ramen is just ok, the broth is not as flavorful as I thought. And if you don't add any addtional ingredients like corn or pickled vege, it's really plain. Pork is not as tender as I like it to be. Samurai in Seattle had it so much better. However the mini unagi don is not bad. Compare to a regular priced Unagi don, mini one has three pieces of unagi on it. Both rice and fish are cooked perfectly. Don't let the location fool you, there is definitely a reason this is Yelp famous. The sushi here is GREAT and definitely a bang for your buck. Unfortunately, it has been a while since I last visited, however, just about a year ago, my boyfriend and I would come hear at least twice to three times a month. There is a very wide variety of sushi selection- but I have picked a few favorites: Haru Ichiban Special roll, Yummy Yummy roll, and the Spicy Shrimp roll. I especially recommend the Haru Ichiban Special roll- it is a baked roll that comes out warm and delectable. I typically enjoy my sushi dressed up (with a lot of sauce and toppings), and Haru Ichiban has a lot of that selection. I have been here several times now. I like Haru Ichiban most during lunch. They have a great lunch combo selection. You get to pick two items, which is like two menu main dishes, and then you get the salad and miso soup. The teriyaki salmon is so flavorful and delicious. It is always cooked so well. I also like the crab rolls. The salad that comes with it is a good size too. I know some japanese restaurants give you itty bitty salads. For about $11-12, it is a good deal. The sushi rolls are also really delicious. My mom wanted something without raw ingredients so we ordered her the shrimp roll and it was so yummy! I normally go for something with fish or eel and not shrimp but I would totally order that again. With all this said, they have a really large menu for lunch with endless options. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is really good there. The servers are all really nice. I will day last time I had to ask for ice water twice, because our waitress forgot, but that isn't a deal breaker or anything. They can get pretty busy. read more

I've been a loyal customer of Haru for over 14 years, and survived multiple ownership changes. The food quality has declined significantly over the last 6-8 months and sadly, we made the decision not to go back. Quality of sashimi isn't as good (never got full blown food poisoning, but left with queasy stomachs), we were served half cooked takoyaki (raw batter), and the ramen is much saltier than I remember. We tried a couple of their speciality rolls, a spicy tuna roll (always a classic), and the crab shumai. The shumai was delicious and the rolls themselves were BEAUTIFUL! This place has such good sushi! The place is clean and small. I usually order shrimp tempura and California rolls (I'm not very adventurous) and they're always very good! The only thing I don't love is that both times I have been the service is a little slow. We don't get a ton of attention from our servers. This is definitely my to-go spot in Duluth when it comes to lunch during the week. The service is surprisingly great (for an Asian restaurant) and I always enjoy everything I order here. I usually order the same teriyaki salmon and beef lunch special but tend to add a roll or two on the side because I rarely eat breakfast so I'm famished by noon. The wait staff is always serving with a smile and are great about keeping my water glass full at all times. The food has always been fresh here and I enjoy the fact that their teriyaki sauce is not too salty or watered down. I'll always look forward to having lunch here and am happy to have discovered this place with friends and co-workers as a great spot for lunch or an early dinner. read more

If I were to base this review purely on the food, I'd give it a 4. I had the special miso ramen. I found the portion to be very generous and filling. Topping were plenty with roast pork,bamboo shoots,bean sprouts and three kinds of seaweed. However I left dissatisfied. The price was not marked on the menu clearly and when I received the bill I was told a different price. The waiter told me the price was marked clearly on the JAPANESE menu but wasn't in the english side. HELLO DO I LOOK JAPANESE TO YOU. Bad experience and put me in a bad mood not sure if I'll be back Edit: probably the worst good tasting ramen I've ever had. You are guaranteed to get the worst diarrhea ever. THIS REVIEW IS ONLY FOR DINNER! Food is okay. Portions are generous. Taste is whatever. Service is whatever. The only thing I really enjoyed was the avocado dome salad and that was way overpriced, in my opinion. Takoyaki was my second fav thing. A little more tako would've been nice.. I came here twice. Once with my husband for dinner and the second time with girlfriends for lunch. Both times I had the ramen. The first ramen I had was Tonkotsu Ramen. The soup was rich, light and not oily. The noodle cooked just right. Some restaurants boil the noodles too long making it soggy. This one did no such thing, It still had bite. The toppings on the ramen, salted veg, pork (not too fatty but flavourful), the bamboo shoots, my fav. For lunch, I ordered the Takana ramen in tonkotsu soup, this time I added bean sprouts. This lunch ramen came with spinach, a rare topping on ramen (at least for me). The pork again, tasty. Some restaurants just put flavourless pork in the noodle as if they've boiled the heck out of the meat for flavor. Both times. my ramen was rich and yummy. Definitely the place for amazing traditional udon. The service is quick and friendly whilst being professional. Decor and vibe has a bit more to ask for, but it does the job and is quite sanitary. My guest ordered the ramen and I had their nabiyaki udon, which was fantastic. They had the portion of broth and fats perfect in my order. I almost just wanted to order the broth and sip on it the entire time. It was that good. We ordered some rolls as side orders they came out in perfect time with the kitchen orders. It couldn't have been any more fresher and tasty, and for this, I have to give it up to the sushi chefs for their craft. It's kinda tough for me to write this review, seeing as how I just ate at Sushi House Hayakawa - and my trip to Haru Ichiban confirmed my initial thought that S.H.H. is in another world as far as Atlanta sushi goes. Lunchtime Friday - the place was PACKED, so service was a little slow, but understandably. I mean, you can't ask for much more than seeing the sushi chefs bust their asses to make stuff as fast as they can (nicely) and watching the servers run around like (organized) chickens with their heads cut off, so I don't blame them for being a little slow. They were trying very hard. I got the sashimi lunch, with miso soup, a ginger salad, and seaweed salad (added on). Now, it's a LOT of sashimi for $11.50 (especially since it comes with the soup and salad), but it's definitely not the best. It's good, though. And it had raw tuna, seared tuna, something else seared that I didn't recognize (possibly white tuna), conch, octopus, yellowtail, and salmon. I mean, it was stacked. Not a fan of the conch or octopus, though. The miso soup was actually really good (seemed to have a bit more flavor than some other places), and the seaweed salad . . . I swear, you could get seaweed salad at a 5-star restaurant or Publix's sushi section, and it's ALWAYS the same. Here was no exception. The one thing I thought tasted odd was the ginger salad. It had a lemon-y flavor that I found odd. I still ate most of it, but mainly because I was trying to figure out if there actually was lemon in it. But for all this, plus a Diet Coke (bottled), with tip, it came out to just over $20 (but please remember this is lunch). So I went with a friend on a busy Saturday night and there was a wait of 15 minutes which was to be expected. But for some reason, they sat other people before us.. so my friend asked how much longer the wait would be to which they replied 5 more minutes. We ended up just sitting at the crowded sushi bar but it was entertaining watching them make the sushi. I ordered the Kiss of Fire which tasted great and the presentation was awesome. They lit the plate on fire which was fun to watch. My friend ordered the Spicy Mountain Tuna Roll and Oishii Roll.. both tasted great. Price came out to be about $35 which is decent.
