Came here for date night on a Friday with my husband. Excellent dining experience from start to finish. Chef Tom greeted us as we walked in and later gave us a taste of the honeycomb from the rooftop beehive. I would describe the place as a swanky hotel restaurant -- heck they even had iPad cocktail menu. The cucumber basil martini was delicious as well as the Harth flame; a mixture of sweet and spicy. We ordered calamari (not fried), crab cake, Caesar salad, and an heirloom tomato salad. All were light choices and packed full of flavor. Don't forget to request the bacon jam and bread. While they have a limited winter menu (thru March 2) for the weekend, they were able to execute the mussel appetizer, the mixed green salad and the vegatable curry quite well. The vegatables were all fresh and, while the curry was quite mild, it had a good flavor. We will be back after the March 2 transition back to a full menu. read more

Tired of all the steakhouses and wanted to try this new chic restaurant that was getting great reviews. Here's my breakdown: 5 stars for convenience - I live right down the street in McLean. 4 stars for chick ambiance - Tysons needed something like this. 3 stars for service. The maitre d' was either aloof or just stupid and, while the waitress was friendly and knowledgeable, we had to wait for a long time. There was only one other customer, but she said the bar where she had to get the drinks was busy. 2 stars for food & wine, because they didn't have the wine and dessert we wanted. The food was okay to good. My salad was loaded with what seemed to be grocery store croutons, my scallops were very good and my husband was pleased with his meal. read more

We are a little perplexed by Härth. We have been visiting this restaurant for years (we live in the area). It used to be a hidden gem, but now it seems to have settled for being a canteen for those who stay at the hotel. The room is gorgeous, the staff friendly and professional, and then... meh. We had a party of three for Saturday night. The restaurant was ¾ empty, but kitchen service was very slow. To begin at the beginning: my Martini was OK, but seemed to have encountered very little ice, the flatbreads were amazingly good, but there was a fair wait before our mains showed up. When they did arrive; two of us were served and one was not, so two of us were left staring at our rapidly cooling meals while we waited for the last entree to arrive (one of my pet peeves). It did arrive, but the side dish we had ordered took another few minutes. After what seems like a long time between appetizers and mains - how hard could it be for the kitchen to co-ordinate everything? Re the food. It was OK. My crab cakes were good, but the potatoes were way over-seasoned and the Brussels slaw was bitter (blanching and an ice bath for the spouts would have helped). My husband's scallops and the squash they were served with seemed to have come from two separate dishes. We did not have dessert, but ordered coffee. I asked for an Irish coffee and it arrived black, over-sweetened and with no cream at all. The waiter just said that he couldn't make it pretty with whipped cream and left it at that. I guess I'm wondering why a restaurant that prides itself on locally sourced ingredients, rooftop beehives and fresh organic produce growing at the entrance wouldn't, a) market itself to the local community (and care about repeat business), and b) pay attention to the details. Years ago this was a great place to eat, and now it seems to say, "we know you won't be back". How sad. read more

Below average service and taste. Order spring pae soup beliveing it was split pea. No, it was cold and raw pea mash. Menu gave no clue. First I have sent food back IN MY LIFE. Alternative chicken noodle soup was bland. Waiter failed to deliver side order of fries for my dining partner and the bill had a very strange $2 item which was corrected after being pointed out. The service was awful the food was even worse and to top it off we split our check, all signed separate credit card receipts, and my card was the only one actually charged for the full amt of the meal. Just came back from lunch. Food was ok--a bit under seasoned. I ordered the hearts of romaine salad--way too pricy. $9 to add 3oz of salmon to my salad (i thought it would be at least 4oz and it was also a bit frustrating that it was sautéed NOT grilled, since I specifically asked whether the salmon was sautéed or grilled and was assured of the latter). Inordinately slow service--40min to prepare 3 salads and an order of crab cakes? The waiters didn't wait until the entire table was finished to remove the course, they just picked up everyone else's as I was still eating. Then I had to decide whether to finish my $20+ salad while others wait or let them take it though I was still hungry. The waiter didn't know the difference between ice cream and sorbet and didn't know what flavors were available. The head waiter clearly did not instruct the food runners who should receive what dessert, so the other lady at the table received all of them. By itself, each of these issues isn't a big deal, but altogether, it is frustrating. If you are going to charge fine dining prices, the level of service should be comparable, not reminiscent of macaroni grill. (Nothing against MG, but I also don't pay $40+/person for a non-alcoholic lunch there.) Pretty disappointed. I would've never thought there would be so many mixed reviews of Harth! I must either come at the right time or maybe they know me. Harth is situated inside the Hilton and has a pretty nice atmosphere and definitely has a Scandinavian vibe. I was originally skeptical about Harth because I usually am with restaurants inside a hotel but this place has proved me wrong time and time again. Every time I've come I've always been seated promptly and I've always had great service although most of the service I've gotten has been from the same 3 folks. I've gone for lunch and dinner and each time they have always been very kind, very helpful and always friendly. The times I've gone I have had the salad, salmon and steak and all were cooked the way I asked. My favorite thing here is the dessert. The pasty both summer and berry tart was perfect and the more I go there I prefer to just eat a salad and skip to desert. I've always enjoyed my time here and do consider it a favorite. read more

Insanely overpriced - two eggs, a few strips of bacon, a few slices of ham, and a small pot of coffee cost well over $40.

I've visited the Harth many times since it's grand opening. The Harth use to be a clean, friendly, and creative cuisine restaurant. Now, the outside dining tables, chairs, fireplaces, and umbrellas look very dirty and not appealing at all. The inside restaurant lighting fixtures are dirty and dusty. All the lighting fixtures in the Hotel seem dirty. The parking lot has lots of trash and bottles. The food has gone downhill in taste, flavor, presentation, and quality of ingredients. The prices are expensive for such a poor dining experience. The general quality level of the Harth restaurant is sinking to a fast food level. We were a party of four ladies and not one person was satisfied with the service, wait time, and poorly prepared bad tasting food. We asked to speak with the Chef. A man named Chef Philip said he was the Executive Chef for the Hilton. When we asked, what is the problem with your cooks, he became very defensive and arrogant in responses. Executive Chef Phillip even suggested that maybe we ladies drank too much wine to taste the food! Two bottles of wine between four women is appropriate. Needless to say, he did nothing to accommodate our complaints. We paid the bill but won't return to the Harth! read more

Terrible customer service - long story, but treated me like a Motel 6 customer for a complaint until a followup visit when I had the chance to address in person - then they were suddenly very accommodating. It should have been resolved by phone. Food and beverages are WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY overpriced for quality. Starting at $16 for a glass of wine, and $17 for a one piece of french toast room service so my daughter could have breakfast before I left for my business trip work location. the cheese board was incredibly disappointing for $20, with only one hard cheese selection and two slices of bread. it seems to be a case of setting the prices higher to make you think you're getting something special - I guess I'm a little too experienced for that. I get room service - it's expensive - but one piece of french toast on the children's menu with delivery for $17? Given that the room itself was only $77/night, I feel like this hotel is trying to sell itself for something it isn't. I hope enough people read this to experience the real show here. read more

took the (extremely particular) parents back for lunch, and loved it. we were literally fighting over the last spoonful of onion soup (mom won). the agnolotti were dreamy pillows of pasta. wine list is a wee bit predictable and spendy, but solid. service is a little distracted -- I think there was a convention or something in town -- but earnest. just wish there were a few more dollars thrown at the soundproofing, since my aging parents don't like to yell over the bread basket. read more

Lunch and dinner have been fantastic! We just had our second meal this week at Harth. The flatbreads are phenomenal -- try the special -- or the Bianca. For dinner, we throughly enjoyed the lobster ravoli -- and on the beverage side, the pomegranite mojito was out of this world. For lunch, try the turkey sandwich -- its really delicious and the caesar salad is just right. The service on our last two visits has been top notch -- no trace of the lacking attitude noted on my previous review. Desserts are very good as well -- we tried the carrot cake with cream cheese ice cream, the butterscotch pudding and the special (toffee sticky pudding) and all are worth saving room for. We are picky and we have been thoroughly impressed -- a GREAT EXPERIENCE!!! read more

I've been to Harth twice for lunch, and in retrospect two things really stand out to me: the pleasant ambiance and service, and the bacon spread they serve with good bread. That stuff is incredible - I urge you to try it. (I eat so much of it that I end up not being too hungry for the actual meal). The rest of the food is tasty but not particularly memorable. The space is lovely, light, peaceful, sunny and uncrowded. The servers are friendly and attentive, and service is nicely paced so you don't feel rushed. I've gone with a friend for a companionable, leisurely lunch and found the overall experience very pleasant. Prices are a bit steep compared to some lunch places but I think deservedly so. read more

Definitely interesting decor and food. Great service with minor hiccups in waiting a while for our drinks, but very friendly and knowledgeable staff. A couple of seafood appetizers arrived a bit undercooked but this this was rectified. Delicious meal. Pricing a bit on the high side. Down in DC on business, four of us opted to visit this newly opened restaurant to escape the tedium of our conference. From the outset we realized that this was not going to be a typical evening. I've stayed at quite a few Hilton's over the past three years and this is like no other. I didn't realize until later that the franchise was going through a makeover to ameliorate the brand. Without wasting too much breath on the facilities, the lobby is quite elegent; an atrium with a string of large glass balls...suggestive off champagne bubbles and perhaps celebrating life. Just to the left is Harth with a Palm Springs like design; low golden hued lighting, light diffusing shading (valet circle just outside) and raised fireboxes. Very comfortable and quite stylish. The service was prompt, extremely courteous, helpful and friendly all without being intrusive. But the real highlight is the food. Our group of four managed to try three different salads, a small plate, a flatbread and an entree (the three of us that ordered entrees decided that the short rib's description necessitated that we each order our own). Wedge: Simple and delicious with a terrific blue cheese dressing that is perfectly between creamy and in crumbles. Romaine: This being a wonderful option for those liking Caesar's...although if you are like me, you'll miss the distinctive anchovy saltiness. Beets: A beautiful and colorful melange of spinach, beets, walnuts and chevre. Magnificent. Meatballs: I would never normally order meatballs. I'm one of those people that avoids ordering things that can be made at home. But at the urging of the staff, we included this...and it was the highlight of the meal! The meatballs are a wonderful combination of veal and beef with pecorino mixed in. The sauce is the perfect accompaniment; both in taste and in that it hides a wonderful surprise; the meatballs are done so well in that the outside is a very thin crust. You have to order it...it's done so well. Sausage Flatbread: A great blend of ingredients...and I'm not talking about the menu...I'm talking about the sausage (I think that they probably make it there). Short Rib: The three day braising certainly shows...the meat is impossibly tender and filled with a hearty richness. The mushrooms are a great accompaniment. The broad noodles tasted terrific and would certainly have been gobbled down post haste, but I idiotically added on a side of the "mac and five cheeses" which was sublimely good that I could not focus on the broad noodles. During our dessert, the chef, Tom Elder floated from table to table to ensure that all patrons were pleased. When he got to us -- at our request -- he joined us and explained that they are comfort food focused, provisioning locally with an herb garden somewhere on property and a small apiary going on top of the hotel's roof. We commended Chef Tom for the entire experience, but especially the food. I applaud this business decision by Hilton and think that it's a stroke of genius to consider moving their anchor restaurants towards this model. The four of us have already agreed to visit next year over the same weekend. P.S. I don't eat desert, but my colleagues all raved about theirs...the carrot cake, butterscotch pudding and a very large chocolate cupcake. I was envious. read more

This was my first dinner at Harth, having had lunch there when they first opened. The space: A lovely, elegantly modern, hip room. Just a delightful and comfortable space to sit in. It was a little noisier than we usually prefer. It was just shy of being too loud to have a conversation without shouting. The food: We started with the bread with sea salt butter and bacon jam. Yes, bacon jam. One word; yum. Sweet and bacony - what's not to like? We had the romaine/caesar salads and a mushroom flatbread. The Salad had a great kick of garlic, one of the best Caesar salads I've had. The Flatbread was wonderfully flavored, with a hint of fontina and just a strong mushroom essence. Unfortunately, the flatbread was soggy when it should have been crisp. But tasty none the less. I had the 1/2 roast chicken with brussell sprouts and mushrooms. While it was flavorful, the chicken, especially the breast was slightly overcooked. Our desserts included an apple tart, chocolate marshmallow filled cupcake and the Butterscotch pudding, which would have fed 4 of us all on it's on. The butterscotch pudding reminds me of the Butterscotch Budino Mario Batali serves at Mozza in LA. It should come with a drug warning label - it is addictively good. Service was a tad slow, but we were visiting and didn't terribly mind. All in all a pleasant evening. If the service was slightly more attentive or the chicken hadn't been overcooked, this would have definitely been 4 stars. read more

The food is local and fresh, not to mention delicious! I strongly recommend the panzanella salad + the flatbreads. If you order anything served w/bbq sauce, you can't go wrong. It's a homemade sauce using bacon jam (their speciality!) & their hand crafted ketchup. The food is reasonably priced, but the wine is a bit pricey (Kim Crawford Sauv Blanc for $52 struck me as higher than I've paid elsewhere by $7 - $10). Came here for dinner a few weeks back and it was pretty good! The atmosphere's great and the bacon jam is every bit as good as the reviews say. To start, we had the mussels and a flatbread for the table. The mussels were really good and the flatbread was fine. It tasted good, but I didn't find it particularly interesting. But, my entree was fantastic- sea scallops with tagliatelle in roasted red pepper sauce. Everyone else seemed to really enjoy their entrees too. Highlight of dessert was definitely the bread pudding, which comes deconstructed as mini fondue. Honestly, I don't know if it was really worth the price, but, considering that I wasn't paying that night, it was great! read more

The bread/sea salt butter/bacon jam is AMAZING, I would go back for that alone. The heirloom salad (heirloom tomato's were from the chef's personal garden!)was VERY good and the hearts of romaine salad was very tasty, not as garlic-y as I would want. I ordered the roasted celeriac soup and the chicken, and boy oh boy were both of those delish!I was hesitant about the soup but it wasn't heavy like other cream soups I have had. The chicken was even better the next day for lunch! For dessert we got the short cake and apple tart. You can clearly taste everything is made fresh and in house and it makes a difference. A bunch of friends took me here for my birthday, and I was impressed by the decor as soon as we walked in. It's very classy but cozy at the same time. Our waitress was super friendly, and came by several times to ask if we were enjoying our meal. The menu was more limited than I expected, but the food is good, and with amazing presentation! At first I was skeptical about their signature bacon jam but it really grows on you :) Because it was my birthday, our waitress came by with a card signed by Chef Tom, and later an extremely decadent chocolate cupcake. It was so rich (not in a bad way), the five of us split it for dessert and we were stuffed. I think Harth would be great for a date night or just any family celebrations! read more

We found out that they make their own honey using bees and beehives on the rooftop and when we couldnt stop raving about the honey in our dessert, they brought down fresh honey for each of us! I was with a party of two others, and had expect a great dinner on a Saturday night. However, the service was slow. The food was terrible, and not even served hot! None of us were pleased with our meals. Then we ordered dessert, and it took at least twenty minutes for it to arrive, and was not what we had ordered. I will never go back there again. We stopped here before a Wolf Trap concert and were expecting a hotel restaurant type place...we were very, very wrong. The service was very friendly and gracious, the food was very good and the atmosphere was fun and different. The menu is not overwhelming - some fresh ideas to try and think about. (I have to mention the wilted greens were a little salty.) Flounder and chicken entrees were the favorites at our table. And the bacon jam - addictive. Came here for dinner a few weeks ago to celebrate a family member's birthday. We enjoyed the appetizers and drinks. My wife loved the pizza. Entrees were average. The main reason I'm giving it a low rating was the service. Drinks orders took forever, empty plates were not taken within a reasonable time. At one point our table literally had stacks of plates waiting to be taken. Worst of all, our server had an attitude the whole evening. We ordered a bottle of wine with dinner and he had the nerve to make a smart ass comment when we asked for six glasses. Needless to say my family and I have had better food and GREAT SERVICE at less expensive restaurants. read more

I really like Harth. We live right down the street but probably still only go once every few months because we prefer going into DC for "nice" or "interesting" restaurants. But for Tyson's Corner, the food is really great and the decor is very modern. I don't like going and sitting in something that looks like a steak house from 1990, which to be blunt a lot of the "nice" restaurants in McLean and Vienna do fall under. I would say Harth is better than any of the restaurants in the Galleria or Tyson's Corner Center. Founding Farmers and Jose Andres' America Eats might rival them in quality but I have a hard time finding non-heart-disease items on their menus. Harth also makes reasonably strong cocktails. In my experience, the cocktails are roughly 33% stronger (and taste equally good) to those at Founding Farmer's. Too bad the restaurant is a bit out of the way and doesn't get as much local traffic read more

The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the food was good, but the service, unfortunately, was lackluster. Our server did not explain anything on the menu including the bread and dips placed on the table. One of our own party had dined there before and she illuminated us as to the bacon jam specialty. Passing the bread across the table of our spacious booth took some ingenuity because the table is so large. This also tended to inhibit cross-table conversation. The iPad was delivered to our table and our server disappeared. He did this twice. It is as if they have done their job once they've given you the silly computer to scroll down the screen for choices. We would make a selection and wait . . . and wait. Not a fan. As for the food, my apple and pear salad was enormous and should have been an entree item (esp. for folks that like blue cheese, which I do not). We all ordered seafood entrees and they were quite good. Overall, I would go back to this restaurant for the ambiance, sit at a table (not in a booth), try out some of the other food selections and demand more from the wait-staff. read more

I dropped in for a few drinks with a friend, so I can't comment on the food. The staff was personable and the bar looks nice. I was shocked that 4 mixed drinks with Makers Mark cost almost $80. I made a joking comment to the bartender who responded, "welcome to DC". Well, I live in DC and happen to appreciate hotel bars. While the bar does look nice, the prices are out of line considering it's a renovated hotel in an office park setting. Clearly their business model is to profit off business travelers and trapped wedding guests, but it's a shame they can't earn my repeat business as a local that prefers quiet places. For $20 a drink, I can find something downtown with a view like the Kennedy center, W hotel, or a nicer place in Tyson's like Capital Grille. Obviously if you sit down at one of these places, you can afford it, but no one wants to walk away feeling they were ripped off. read more

We had a good dinner here Friday night. I would describe the decor as upscale contemporary -- lots of white with some elevated, fully enclosed gas fireplaces. Its not loud and there's plenty of windows to bring in natural light though you may have to ask for the shades to be lowered around sunset to mitigate glare. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I like that you can also get the full dinner menu served at the very large, and more casual bar in the hotel atrium. I had a generously sized and tasty sparkling wine to start along with an excellent mushroom flatbread, a very good BBQ shrimp served with corn/black bean on side, and a roasted oyster appetizer that I thought lacked flavor and wouldn't get again. We were very pleased with the very generous and delicious crabcake entree, likewise for the flounder, but wouldn't recommend the shredded pork entree as there are better options available. Bread service was ok though I'm always more partial to warm soft rolls. Prices are very reasonable -- I'd go back. read more
