This is the original one for those who get confused. All the others came later (Downtown, 42nd St, Casa Cipriani, etc.). We usually plan to have dinner here our first night after checking into our hotel in New York City. It's kind of become part of the routine. The restaurant itself is pretty small and can feel a little tight, especially when it's busy, but that's expected for NYC and honestly part of the experience. Food wise, the eggplant parmesan (parmigiana) is a go to, especially if you're vegetarian. It's technically an appetizer, but if you add a side of spaghetti it turns into a full meal and works really well. The menu changes often, but I almost always end up ordering some kind of ravioli without even thinking about it. And you kind of have to get the Bellini at least once it's what they're known for and it's actually worth it. That said, service was off on my last visit. We were sitting there for about 40 minutes waiting for the check while they were clearly winding down for the night, which was frustrating and unnecessary. There's definitely better Italian food in NYC, no question. But you're really coming here for the location and the crowd it's in a more polished, upscale part of the city and has that scene to it. One thing I do appreciate is that reservations are actually doable, which is rare for places like this in the city. Not the best meal you'll have in New York, but still a spot I keep going back to. Came here after Christmas shopping for a cappuccino at the bar - my bf got the meringue as usual. This location is very busy and everyone is dressed up - it feels like you are in a movie. Had an early dinner at Harry Cipriani recently! To start off, this restaurant location is connected to The Sherry Netherland Hotel, so there are 2 entrances: inside the hotel and outside the restaurant itself. This establishment is somewhat spacious with a good amount of seating and a bar section. Some of the tables however are very close to one another. The warm lighting and the rich wood tones throughout the restaurant gives off a nice sophisticated, old timey vibe. Ambiance rate 9/10. My boyfriend and I ordered... 1. The Bellini: This drink was the perfect blend of peaches and prosecco. Rate 10/10. 2. Cipriani Baked Tagliolini: This pasta dish was very delicious. It had great flavor, and had a generous amount of praga ham. I especially liked the baked cheese over the top. However, it was very oily which was the one downside. Rate 8/10. 3. Steamed Chilean Sea Bass: This entrée was incredibly delightful. This soft sea bass had exquisite flavor that just melts into your mouth. Rate 10/10. It came with rice pilaf which had a nice buttery flavor to it. However, it was overcooked which was upsetting. Rate 6/10. 4. Spicy Cream Vodka Rigatoni: This is a "secret menu item" that you can order if you ask your waiter. This dish had a yummy vodka sauce taste with a slight spicy kick to it! Rate 8/10. At the end, they give you free vanilla wafer cookies that were good. The service was great! Our server was very kind and accommodating to our requests. The service was fairly quick. Service/staff rate 9/10. All the dishes tasted wonderful. Unfortunately, they were very small portion sizes. I expected the dishes to have a larger portion of food considering it's expensive prices. Harry Cipriani is an upscale Italian restaurant on 5th avenue. The experience we had was superb from start to finish. The manager was friendly and seemed to have a great existing relationship with many customers. Some people said that the service was chaotic with different waiters and that their was discrepancies in how much attention you got. While we had multiple servers, for the most part they were all friendly and attentive. The Bellini and Fritto Misto were excellent. We then got a ravioli and penne pasta which were some of the best pastas we've ever had (especially the ravioli). I went to a movie premiere about Italian food. So I was craving Italian food. The Bolognese didn't have tomato, so it was more of a stroganoff. Bathroom is kind of creepy in hotel basement next door. It's convenient for the Paris Theater & Plaza, and open later than most on a week night. Very nice experience. Service top notch. Food delicious. Beautiful atmosphere. I enjoyed the tuna tartar the most for appetizer, very fresh and flavorful. Solid frito misto. I enjoyed my parpadelle but I could not finish. It was delicious but very rich. My husbands eggplant parm was very over salted so that was the only miss. Was in NYC for a quick trip. Walked by on my way back to the Park Hyatt from The Met and decided to see if they had any space for lunch. The host was fantastic and found a great table for me. The tables are quite close and you can easily hear conversations from those next to you but it was entertaining as I was dining alone. Ordered the pasta bolognese and it was delicious. So I used to travel to NY often. HC has always been a staple to my trip. I've always enjoyed the greeting, the service, the general ambiance. It's been a couple of years since I've been able to get back. Sadly I don't know if I will ever go back . We made our reservation through Resy and made a point of letting them know I have a pretty serious food allergy. I'm also battling cancer so this makes it even more important. In the past, they've of course known that I'm a tourist and not a local. It has never mattered and they have been so lovely. Truly something that I have looked forward to. This time I'm pretty sure that they made a table for tourists with the idea of get them in and out. In the past, if two women were picking up their table, complete with drinks, and moving it closer to the wall, servers would have come out of the woodwork, horrified that we were doing this ourselves. We moved our table because I was on the outside, directly behind me was the "station" for servers, and I was constantly being bumped into. One time I actually was hit so hard that I had to grab the table to stop from knocking the drinks off. The gentleman who was at front door was the only one who would apologize when he grazed me. Haven't been here in close to 20 years so we were looking forward to dinner and feeling nostalgic. First off the food was very good. I had the Veal Tonnato and an absolutely delicious sea bass. We all shared their meringue cake which was perfect! That's what the 3 stars are about . The let down was the service. Rather long wait to get a drink order taken. We lost count of the number of servers but to get their attention was quite a challenge. Once we ordered, the appetizers arrived quite quickly with one peculiar hitch. Our server seemed to take issue with the fact that one person in our party requested capers that he wanted to have with his carpaccio. "It isn't served that way" was his terse reply. No one asked his opinion and it was rather curious that he seemed to be scolding our dinner companion. My friend politely asked "can you please just bring me a small serving of capers separately?" A few minutes later the server dropped a small glass with capers as requested and said quite sarcastically "there, happy now?" I credit my dinner companion with his ability to remain civil - I'm not sure I would have been quite so patient. That plus the obvious lack of any sort of dress code. While most diners were appropriately dressed we all noticed far too many baseball caps (left on) and t shirts. We just celebrated this evening my girlfriend birthday. I knew we were in for a terrible time when the waiter suggested for 6 people we share 3 appetizers as he said in the middle of the table to share. We ordered entrees and even appetizers for entrees because he suggested we do that. Not once the whole evening did he stop over to see if all was ok. Not once. Than they brought out a slice of cake to sing happy birthday. He never asked would anyone like coffee. Or after they cleaned the entree dishes did he bring us a clean napkin which the staff removed from the table. Than we asked for the bill as I just couldn't wait to leave they added a 120'tip to the invoice. Which thank G-d I looked at the bill because the terrible waiter never ever mentioned to me that the tip was included in the invoice. Seating setup is always slightly cramped at any Cipriani restaurant, but I feel it's done intentionally so that you end up chatting with other patrons (which always occurs when we go). TLDR: Super disappointed by the food, though recognize this restaurant has a nice location. Harry's is kind of old school and fancy, almost like a restaurant you would see in a movie. It has a nice interior and convenient location right at the edge of Central Park in Midtown. Past this surface, I overall didn't enjoy the food and thought the service was a bit slow. I came with a group for lunch (with reservation), and we shared some appetizers, which were good but underwhelming. I enjoyed the tuna tartare, but was not impressed by the severely overpriced salad. For the main, I got their tomato pasta and it was unfortunately among the worst pasta I've had at a restaurant (I honestly preferred the kind that I can make at home for less than $5 in 15 minutes), especially at a high price point. I am surprised, disappointed, and reluctant to rate Harry Cipriani with only three stars. But... It is what it is. While this was our first meal at Harry Cipriani, we are no stranger to Cipriani. We have dined at Cipriani in Las Vegas and Harry's in Venice multiple times and loved loved loved it each time! This time, the food was reliably, good! Endive salad, carpaccio, veal milanese, and spinach ravioli were EXCELLENT! Surprisingly, it was the service that was lacking. We were a party of two on a date night. Apparently, the servers perceived us as a low-value table, and spent their time doting on the larger, nearby tables of four and eight. That was an error on their part and unfortunate for us. We just felt ignored. Ultimately, we tapped the waiter at a nearby table to assist instead. Uggghhh... I chalk this bad experience up to happenstance and serendipity. My numerous other experiences at Cipriani restaurants have been excellent; however, that said... I would much rather go to Cipriani Downtown (SoHo). I will remember that next time. read more

Harry Cipriani: A NYC Power Restaurant That Lives Up To Its Reputation What a location, what a history, what a decor and ambience, what service, and what delicious food. This is a restaurant where you get what you pay for. The restaurant is overseen by Sergio who is ensconced in NYC restaurant lore and knows most of his clientele by name. His lieutenants - Fabrizio, Jordy, and Frantz - live up to his high standards and expectations. The classically Italian elegant decor and ambience gives the restaurant a timeless quality which makes one grateful for the fact that it has not changed for so many years. There are so many outstanding waiters that I hope they will forgive me for not naming each one individually. The food is delicious due both to the freshness and quality of its ingredients, as well as the just necessary simplicity of its compositions. My go to favorites, of which there are quite a few, are the very fresh asparagus to start with, followed by the calves liver sauteed with onions or the veal piccata, and climaxing with the very best lemon meringue tart I have ever had - worth running or strolling around the Central Park Reservoir after dinner if necessary to shed the extra calories. For people watchers, keep scanning unobtrusively and nonchalantly, as you never know who you might spot there. I am sure there is a method to who sits where, but it is difficult to decode as there are so many good seats due to its many nooks and crannies. All in all, a what you want from an authentic, memorable, and special New York City experience. It is worth the wait if you did not have the foresight to make a reservation in advance. Or, to paraphrase a line from the remake of the original Thomas Crown Affair movie - you know you have made it in NYC if you can be seated without a reservation on an always busy Friday night. read more

What a delicious restaurant. I was there on Tuesday for lunch, I sat at the bar, which was really not intended for lunch guests. I wasn't necessarily properly attired, but they pleasantly allowed me to sit at the bar. And I have to say it was the best experience in the restaurant . Being of Italian descent and listening to all the bartenders speak in Italian reminded me of my grandfather. Although I didn't really understand everything they were saying the banter back-and-forth was lovely. I even got a quick peek into one of the cabinets with a photo of Humphrey Bogart. As far as the food goes, it was wonderful. The best thing I had was the lemon sorbet. It was like a lemon cloud. It was one of those New York experiences that you remember forever. I came to this restaurant for my birthday dinner and was very disappointed by my experience. First, despite having a reservation we waited for 20 minutes for a table. There is no designated waiting space so we waited in the dining room standing right next to tables eating their meals. Once seated, we were treated extremely poorly by the waiter. No greeting or words were spoken to us - he stood there with his notepad and stared at us. I have honestly never been treated so rudely by a waiter before Funny because he seemed to be capable of social interactions at his larger/older tables. In the middle of dinner the waitstaff was visibly arguing in the middle of the restaurant. Seems they were fighting over the larger tables that were coming in and who would serve them. I've never seen anything like it. The food was tasty, but no birthday wishes or candle despite it being a milestone birthday. I was really disappointed and borderline offended by how we were treated. Very classy establishment, waiters in white coats, the New York experience. The service however left much to be desired. Hardly any communication regarding menu items and what was recommended. We ordered the artichokes which were amazing and allegedly grown in Venice. The cucumber salad was also well put together. One member of our party ordered the burger which was raw inside. The fries were great (maybe not 38$ great but still tasty) We also ordered the gnocchi, delicious sauce but the actual gnocchi were waterlogged. I had the tagliatelle which is the reason this review has more than one star. It was delicious. Wonderfully light noodles with well prepared sauce. I've enjoyed coming to Harry Cipriani regularly since moving to the neighborhood, it became a go-to spot for me and my fiancée. But last night we were turned away at the door, despite having a reservation, because I was wearing shorts. I was surprised and disappointed, especially because there was no mention of a dress code anywhere on the reservation page, confirmation email, or restaurant signage. Years ago, my ex and I came here for brunch and I wasn't all that amused only because I am not a breakfast/brunch person. I do recall drinking so many bellinis because they said they were the inventor of it. Now I am only able to have one or two because it is very thick. Fast forward to today, I love this place whenever I want pasta. Some people can say they had better, but I just love it here. Their cream pasta with a million lbs of cheese and ham. Delicious! I get scared eating it too fast bc I will miss it. The one thing I am not a fan of is that their drink menu is very limited. Delicious Lunch. Classic busy New York lunch experience. Chilean seabass was thick (about 3 inches tall) and very juicy. The Veal Ragu pasta was also a great choice, although mild in flavor, the meat and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The noodles have a nice smooth texture with nice spring-like chew. The Lamb shoulder was the daily special and also cooked very well. To top it off, we had the famous meringue cake, which was absolutely decandent - not too sweet with a fluffy mouse like texture. I usually don't like meringue, but this was very nicely prepared. The food was delicious. However, the staff was not welcoming. We are frequent visitors to NYC living only an hour away and the staff treated us as if it was a bother to serve us. If you are a regular at this restaurant, you probably love it. They seemed annoyed that we were taking a table from their regular clientele despite the fact that there were multiple empty tables on a Friday evening. The lemon meringue cake however, was delightful! The meringue was delicious and the cake was nice and spongey. The ice cream and sorbet were good, nothing mind blowing though. The service varied. One of our servers was very nice and attentive and made jokes with us. We arrived at the restaurant and waited for someone to seat us, another couple arrived after and the manager bypassed us, greeted, and sat the regulars, which their entire party of four had not arrived. He came back a few minutes later and greeted us. I questioned him why didn't he seat us first. He said they had a table ready for them, SMH... we had a reservation.
