This place is awesome. I only wish I had been shopping here sooner (my closest supermarket is the Soviet Safeway). Garage parking is free and plentiful even on a weekend which is nice. The selection is great and they have a LOT of store space so you can practically find anything you need here. It's my new go-to grocery store. The store is extremely clean, the staff the friendliest i've encountered in DC, the selection(particularly meat and fish) is really very good. They also have great deals for the most part--in line with Giant or Safeway with better quality. Especially in the fresh meat and seafood isle. Tuna grade sashimi for 4.99(it's good too) or Mahi Mahi filets for 5.99 or Scallops for 6 bucks a lb. You'll find great deals weekly. And lastly, you can get in and out of there quickly, b/c they shockingly have enough cashiers so waiting in line to buy a lemon won't take 20 minutes(which is par for the course at the Giant on O street. You'll probably get yelled at there too) And you're not constantly bumping into everyone b/c it's so damn crowded. Yes, I don't miss the other stores at all. read more

Went to Harris Teeters, this morning! Wanted to get some tide that was on sale. That was advertise on TV. So I picked up the tide & the sign on the shelf didn't show that the tide was on sale. So I grab two different sizes. Went to two very nice cashier's, to ask which one was on sale. & both cashier's went out of there way to help me. Talk about great customer service. I love Harris Teeter. It's really clean. The produce is fresh and cheap. It's open late and early, many of them 24/7 (not this one). In my experience the employees always know where things are and are polite. They have they're own parking lot so I don't have to search on the street. I always come to this so I don't have to deal with the Giant. I always feel like I'm in a zombie movie when I'm in Giant. A bunch of slow lurching barely living creatures walking around half eating the food and putting it back while looking distressed about it. New slogan suggestion: "Harris Teeter: No zombie probs." read more

I often have meetings in the Adams Morgan area and I rely on this Harris Teeter often for various items that I need in a pinch! Their hot bar is awesome - today I got eggs and bacon for $1.50! Can't beat that!! read more

What's not to like. Great location, free parking, solid produce (not as good as whole foods), excellent meat dept.(purchased filet's @ 4.99/lb), seafood selection is one of the weak spots. You can catch some really great sales here. Ohh and this place is rarely crowded. read more

Way better than the giant, safeway, cvs, or any other store within this small area. They have a fairly decent organic and vegetarian selection. Their sushi chef is pretty darn good as well. Throw in the buffett and the cheese and bread bars and i'm set. Just wish they would get some kombucha, still have to go to whole foods for that. read more

This is a very nice store on a slanted street. It is very nice(said that twice!!!!) and you feel like you are walking onto a staged set in a movie. Everything is in place and there is no disaster site to be seen. Saying that they are high as hell. This is a place where you have to get the sales paper to see what is on sale for the week and get a VIC card. When I go here I do not play around. I guess you have to pay for quality. I would put this in the category of Whole Foods. This is a place where you wheel and deal. Check prices around the supermarket neighborhood. read more

Ok, why only two stars? Compared to the Safeway on Columbia 3.5 blocks away, the HT seems much nicer at first. But, if they are going to charge that much more for the exact same products, they have to offer a whole lot more! And they don't. The produce is nicely laid out, but it's still pretty crappy. The seafood sucks. And it's not a very pleasant street-level presence or a nice place to walk to. I'm just not seeing what all the hub-bub is about. Safeway has its issues, but it's substantially cheaper and they are fully remodeling. If I'm going to splurge on groceries, I'd rather head down to Whole Foods. read more

The Harris Teeter in Adams Morgan is probably one of the most important fixtures in my life. The staff is friendly, the take out meals are a great value ($3.99 whole sandwiches on Fridays), and the grocer rarely runs out of the necessities as do others in town. Also I credit the Teeter for forcing the Sandinista Safeway for stepping their game up, it makes for an overall better Adams Morgan grocery scene. The only moderate gripe I have is this location doesn't carry Bell's Brewed Beer, and has a very small variety of Champagne pre-chilled. When I'm in the mood for champagne to go with my frozen pizza, I don't want to have to stick it in the freezer for 25 minutes to wait for it to chill. read more

Impeccable deals. Great discounts on everything, from seafood to sweets, & household goods everything is fairly priced! The customer service however is a different "tell" there are a few managers that are genuinely nice & friendly & a couple of cashiers who I can say the same, one lady from Kenya who always speaks. It seems to be the younger cashiers & deli workers who carry an abrasive atitude. Overall harris teeter is starting to improve, so 4 stars. read more

I have been splitting my time between this store and TJ's on 14th for the last two years. I can say that this store far surpasses the quality and service at Trader Joes, 14th. The workers are always friendly and helpful. They always come through when I ask for a specific item to be added. They genuinely seem to care about me as a customer. On the contrary, TJ staff are ambivalent, rude and never have acknowledged me a single time on my weekly shopping trips. In addition, the clientele at TJ's have TWICE pushed, (yes, pushed) me out of the way to reach one of their coveted items. This has happened during off-hours both times, when there are few people in the store. I am now going to commit more of my grocery cash to HT. I buy organic produce and have always been thrilled with it. I wish HT would carry organic bread and healthier cereals as I would purchase those items there as well. They also have a great beer and wine selection. read more

It is the best grocery store in the area. The store is clean, well stocked and organized. The cheese counter, deli, bakery and prepared food bar are very good. The staff is polite, generally warm and helpful. Unlike some other stores in the area, you can find employees to answer questions. The Harris Teeter VIC loyalty card significantly lowers the price on their weekly deals (the app needs a little work, but is still worth loading on your phone. For those who drive, there is 2 hours of free parking while you shop. read more

It's interesting that everyone is talking about how expensive this place is, how poor the selection of food is, and how badly they treat their customers but no one has mentioned the store's deliberate and ongoing attempt to systematically overcharge customers at the register. You all know what I am talking about. The Einsteins working the registers have evidently hatched a plot to screw you out of every possible penny. I'm not talking about items that aren't priced correctly from the shelf to the bar code (that's a whole other post). I'm talking about cashiers double ringing items when you're not looking. I'm talking about cashiers that give you a little heavy finger action (not the good kind) as they weigh your produce. And I'm talking about how they use the most expensive produce code to ring your produce up - I had some 1.29/lb apples in the my cart the other day and the idiot behind the register tried to ring them up as 2.99/lb tomatoes. Do you all watch the prices on the monitor as the groceries are scanned? Do you verify your receipts after you check out? You'd better. I used to think this was just because HT has hired a bunch of incompetent numbnuts to stand behind the registers. But given the frequency of this, it's just not possible that any single group of people is so colossally stupid that they check people out incorrectly more often than not. There are too many other stores in the neighborhood to keep going here. Heck, even Target has better produce and they only overcharge you about 25% of the time. read more

Overall, I prefer the customer service at Harris teeter to the lousy service at Safeway, but that's a different review. My beef with Harris Teeter is with their smelly seafood. Not just on occasion but very often the fish is not fresh. I purchased shrimp one night and could not figure out why my refrigerator smelled like a dead body the next morning. I called HT and they told me to bring it in, the manager could smell the rank oder from the bag. They offered to let me buy another type of seafood but I refused. A month later same thing only this time it was Swordfish, I could not believe the smell and a slimy film was on the fish as well the next day. So, today two months later I went in just to test the waters, I asked the guy if I could smell the shrimp before I purchased them. He gave me the bag and it was an awful fishy smell. The seafood manager told me that he couldn't smell anything, and that perhaps the person the night before didn't do a good job cleaning. I am 100% sure that fish is not suppose to smell like a decomposing body. Buyer beware! read more

I shop at HT quite often when I'm at work and I like it overall...They have quality meats and produce. I did have to complain about inappropriate conversations being had by the workers in the deli/pastry section. I called the manager and complained and I haven't heard the horrible language again. I think they need to screen their workers a lot better before they are hired. read more

Hands down the best grocery store in the Columbia Heights/ad mo area. We walk over from near the DC usa shopping center because the grocery options there are so bad. Great selection, free parking for drivers, and friendly employees. High prices, but on par for DC prices i'd say. Teeter wins again! read more

I work a couple blocks away and go to this Harris Teeter for lunch most days. Great deals for delicious subs, great salad bar, and the chef's lunch is always tasty. Not to mention I love snacking on the free samples :) There's an area with a microwave and tables to eat lunch, which is especially nice for people in the neighborhood. read more

The employees of this establishment are helpful, courteous, and humorous. They restock quickly, and have a pretty decent beer selection.

I have never in my life encountered such lovely staff at a grocery store. Every employee you walk by offers you a genuine smile and truly does everything they can to take care of your needs. Its nice and clean although the location of the parking garage is a little odd (you have to go in through 16th street)..... Bad bad bad bad wine and cheese selection. Hands down, Harris Teeter has the best selection of frozen desserts/ice cream in the area. They also have gluten free/dairy free desserts (albeit a much smaller selection.) They also have excellent prices on meats and eggs (look for jumbo pack of chicken thighs or chicken quarters, etc.) read more

This is my favorite grocery store in DC for price, location, selection and atmosphere. Although Whole Foods has nicer stores with better selection, the prices and crowds are just not worth it. Harris Teeter's is just a small step down in my opinion, but leagues above the dingy Giants that DC has. I love their samples of produce, cheese, bread (so good) and desserts. The only downside to this place is the lack of cel service, but I guess it makes me focus on shopping more. read more

Unreliable pharmacy service. I transferred a prescription to their pharmacy on a Monday morning, and when I stopped by that evening to pick up, they said that they had no record of my transfer request. I saw the pharmacy staff member write down the prescription number, previous pharmacy's number, prescription, and my name and number. He told me it would be filled soon. I called that Friday to confirm that it had been filled, and they again told me that they had no record of either me or my prescription. Not a good idea to be this incompetent when you're dealing with people's medications. read more

At first I shied away from this grocery store...I was new to the area and had already been totally freaked out by the Safeway on Columbia rd...but finally I wandered in. I needed chicken and Yes Organic doesn't sell meat. I am so glad that I did. They have all of my favorite things (Boarshead, organic store brand, organic meats, and a really killer deli and salad bar). Also, big bonus...my son LOVES coming here. They give him a free ballon, a cookie, and cheese and fruit samples throughout the store. Any place my son likes to go grocery shopping to is the store I am going to go to. I love Whole Foods but they can get really pricey. I usually save about $2-10 at Harris Teeter thanks to sales and coupons. The customer service is really good too. They once took back an expired package of meat than another Harris Teeter had sold me the previous day, just so I wouldn't have to drive all the way out to Arlington to return it at the store I bought it at! How awesome are they? I only have two complaints....fix the helium machine and bring back the kid's balloons already! And please expand your organic selection, especially in kid friendly food items. I was in town for 4 weeks and eventually found this grocery store...sort of tucked away and you could walk right by it if you weren't looking close enough, which is what happend to my roommate. Had to sign up for the club in ordered to get the discounts, etc...which I always hate when visiting a town, but whatever. Nice cheese selection, meat department, and produce. Clean and the staff was always friendly. Can't complain too much. Definitely better than Safeway a few blocks up on Columbia. read more
