Just moved from Boston, have made two trips to Harris Teeter. Overall very positive reaction; great selections on all foods, fish, meat, etc. Both times cashiers were exceptionally helpful, friendly and welcoming. Their names were Annie and Corrie. 4 stars instead of 5 because disappointed in produce. Strawberries, peaches and oranges were not very good and a bunch of each went bad in 2-3 days. read more

Very disappointed. Leave grapes out for anyone to sample. They grab a handful of grapes from open bags. Also done by a kid and a man who then spit out the product. Sample area should be separate from the products to purchase. Very unhygienic. Spoke to the manager who says this happens all the time. Advised him , most vendors seal off the grapes. I have been a frequent at this Harris Teeter for a long time and they have yet to disappoint me. The employees are extremely friendly and willing to help you with anything you need. One woman always allows me to try their high quality deli meats; she always has a smile on her face. The people behind the sushi counter are extremely accommodating (and their sushi is INCREDIBLE). A man today helped me at the self checkout by making sure I snagged all the best deals on my items. He even gave me a free bag! Overall, I felt very well cared for here. And the prices aren't too bad either! I highly recommend their subs ($6.99 for 12 inch but $5.99 on Fridays) and their sushi (the vegetarian is only $4.99!) read more

It is by far my favorite place to get inspired and buy beautiful ingredients to make the perfect dish to satisfy the palette, but I must admit to one complaint. First the technician gave me 1 hour 40 min waiting time and after speaking with pharmacist she came back and said we don't even have a medicine and come back after 4 days since they just order their medications 3 times a week. I would have given this store four stars when it opened, but not anymore. When we went yesterday, we were greeted with lots of empty shelves, hardly any sales, and higher prices on most items. Anything that was on sale was sold out. This store still has several things going for it- convenient location right off 270 (basically shares a driveway with the exit ramps), friendly staff and a bunch of self checkouts. Plus I do like their produce and some of the HT brand products- especially their trail mix. But I can see this store going into rapid decline unless management starts picking up. For items that are not all organic or "gourmet", things can be pretty overpriced. I find WholeFoods can be cheaper for what they are offering. Their sales and deals still fall behind other grocery stores. They have a sushi bar, freshly made sandwiches, salad bar, and a hot food bar. Their hot food bar is pretty much the same every day, which can get boring. I have not bought anything from the meats and seafood section so I do not not how fresh they are. Their produce and fruit selection is alright. They have a wide selection of apples though. It is a pretty clean store, and a lot of the employees here are friendly. You will wait forever for deli meats. The store is always being rearranged for the worse. Never enough check out lines open. Other Harris Teeters are much better than this one. I went to Harris Teeter today and was happy to find three items which I can never find at my local Giant. They have Diet Splash, International Delight Sugar Free French Vanilla coffee creamer and chicken drummettes. The Giant food store in Cabin John Village only rarely has the coffee creamer and never has Diet Splash or chicken drummettes. I would never come here if it wasn't so convenient. HT is often wiped out of items, particularly produce. The deli is the worst ever. It takes twenty to thirty minutes to get a pound of turkey CONSISTENTLY. The staff seems overwhelmed. They need tickets to stop customers from arguing with each other over who is next. I generally enjoy shopping at this Harris Teeter location in Park Potomac, and have found the to be cashiers very professional, pleasant and helpful. However I had an experience with one of the cashiers, which I believe should be shared. I asked a gray haired lady a simple question regarding a request I had, and she proceeded to argue with me regarding what I could do to get my request met. Coming from a customer service background myself, I was appalled. This type of behavior does not benefit the store, or the customers. Very disappointing. read more

The quality and appearance of the Harris Teeter in Park Potomac is declining rapidly. They can't seem to keep their produce section stocked, and seem to regularly run out of staples such as bananas and broccoli. No one seems to make any effort to keep the shelves organized, and it's typical to find things strewn about throughout the store. They seem to be focusing more on selling specialty items like firewood and patio furnishings, and less on groceries. The store is also just plain dirty! They seem to sweep the floors and empty the trash on a schedule, not when it needs it. So at 6PM on a weeknight, the floors were covered with dirt and trash, and the trash pails next to the areas where they provide free samples were overflowing. The staff is quite friendly, but the management seems to believe the only response to any question or concern is "I'm sorry!" followed by an explanation of why it isn't their fault (e.g. we had a lot of people shopping today, or corporate didn't send us enough produce again). I have no doubt that they are sincerely sorry, but I don't want to have to go to multiple grocery stores just to get basic items. read more

We ordered a birthday cake on line and it came out beautiful. The nice lady in the bakery department mentioned she was a trainee when I called to confirm but it still looked A +. Appreciate the bake shop doing special cake orders during this crazy time. My daughter loved the cake. Thank you HT and the bakery team and your trainee will be just fine. Given that I'm a foodie and love to cook, I think I was one of the most excited people in the 20854 when it was announced we'd be getting a Harris Teeter. I actually did cartwheels in the middle of the road of Park Potomac which is the development/community where Harris Teeter is located. But then Harris Teeter opened, and I felt nothing more than "meh" towards it. First, the parking situation. When it first opened, it was fine. Now that the restaurants have been added, there is actually a very limited amount of parking which can be really frustrating if you're trying to pick something up after work. Second, the produce section. If you can really call it that. The ancient Potomac Village Safeway carries better produce. While you might fall for the bright lights when you first walk, once you begin to actually look at the produce and inspect your fruits and veggies before you buy them, you'll notice they're really not that fresh. It's pretty slim pickings, and who wants to go through all that work of digging through them to find the diamond in the rough. The organic selection is even worse because it legit goes bad the second it leaves the store. They must add something to the air there, because something ain't right. Third, when you do want something they carry at another Harris Teeter, allegedly, you can go to customer service, tell them what the product is, and they will get it at your local store for you. Once it's in, they are supposed to call you and notify you so you can go purchase it. Yeah, in theory, it's a brilliant idea. In reality, it's not how this particular Harris Teeter operates. I tried doing things their way once, and it got me nowhere. So I gave up on any hopes of getting something at this location and will just go to a different specialty store in MD to get it. Despite their flaws, I do love their cheese selection and their deli is pretty darn good. I also love their dessert case and their own signature pre-packaged Harris Teeter cheesecake is out of this world! Anyone who has ever come over to my place and had it has absolutely loved it, raving "the cheese in this cheesecake is fabulous!." Mind you, I think they sprinkle crack on it, but I'm a bit of a conspiracy theorist. So for cheesecake and their cheese case, I will continue frequenting Harris Teeter, but for anything else, I rather go to Whole Foods, pay actually the same amount as I would here, and get far fresher items. I love this store BUT they must hire more checkers. It is a disgrace to pay that much money and then have to ring up your groceries yourself!!!!!! Great customer service where you can return things if something's wrong with it. Customer is always right to them, if they made a mistake they will often refund money and give you the item free. There sushi is surprisingly good to me for some reason, a bit expensive depending on what you get, but I love whatever has spicy mayo on it, could be California rolls with crunch on top or shrimp tempura with crunch on top. Their prime rib is they sell on Thursdays is also good, can't beat the price, it was about $10 for a big slice. There steaks are also good quality. Avocados are also good stay fresh and ripe for a while as opposed to having brown spots in them all the time. Don't forget the free samples, keeps my kids happy while shopping read more

Rude!!! It pains me to write this about Harris Teeter as I am a loyal and loving customer of my local Harris Teeter in Reston. I was getting groceries for my sick grandma who lives down the street. She had always complained to me about how this Harris Teeter never has anything in stock and I thought she was exaggerating. She isn't at all! She sent me to get BASIC items like milk, oatmeal and chicken broth, the shelves were EMPTY! Empty like a blizzard was about to strike ( no blizzard or snow in the forecast FYI ). I was listening to other customers in disgust over the same thing. I have NEVER experienced this at my local Harris Teeter, so I asked a manager if she could help me. I said, " excuse me your shelves are really empty, is it possible that some of these items are in the back?" she RUDELY responded, " we are the highest grossing Harris Teeter in the region".. so I said "ok I get that but.." and before I could finish my sentence she cut me off to say the same thing again. HOW RUDE.. like dang... I am just trying to get groceries for my sick grandma! The Harris Teeter in Reston has NEVER been rude to me like that.. at ALL.. they have even gone into the back to bring out fresh fruit for me before.. along with helping me to my car with heavy items. Now I know why my grandma is disgusted by this store, they are a far cry from the Harris Teeter standard. The manager on duty did not need to be nasty and rude, like I get it we all have bad days and working customer service can be challenging, but saying your store is the highest grossing is stupid. I have worked retail for many years, at THE highest grossing store and I was always able to keep my shelves stocked, and if a customer needed something I always went out of my way to find a solution. So now to end this rant.. I am headed to my local Harris Teeter in Reston VIRGINIA because I know they will have all the items needed, and then driving them to POTOMAC MARYLAND. I have to say I am a little bit of a grocery store prude. The selection is wonderful. Produce, huge fresh selection, lots of goodies you wont find at your normal grocery store. Seafood, reasonable prices, very fresh, variety galore. Now lets get to my favorite department, the meat. They have dry aged beef. Starting at $20.00 a pound it is a little bit of a splurge but worth every penny spent. Combine the dry aged beef with the gourmet selection of cheeses, fresh artisan breads, finger potatoes and asparagus from the produce department and you have a meal that will impress your guests. There are a few other things I love about Harris Teeter, buy one get one free deals, fast and friendly check out and specials galore through out the store. Tiny parking lot. So annoying to find a space even in the middle of a weekday, when you just want to run in to get a few quick items, and there are tons of other cars circling around like sharks waiting for a space to open. Service is decent, employees friendly. Prices are hit and miss in that you could get a good deal on something and get super ripped off on something else - it's not consistent, and also you need to check that you're not overcharged at checkout. To take advantage of the sales, you need to open an account. While the produce section is respectable, and there is a good hot bar, the meat section is laughably, pitifully small. I'm sticking to Giant from now on, or going to the Harris Teeter off the Pike, which makes this one look like its red headed stepchild that Harris Teeter corporate disowned but was too soft-hearted to strip of its logo entirely. read more

Walk into the deli area last night. An African-American woman who slurred her words and was eating food came to make me a sandwich. I asked for a half-sandwich. She recommended a whole sub, given that it was on sale for 4.99. I said no thank you, that I wanted a half....and she kept pressing me, as if it were a used sales lot...ALL THE WHILE CONTINUING TO CHEW FOOD IN HER MOUTH. I come from a land 6 hours away that has a Wegmans in almost every town. Needless to say, I'm a bit of a grocery store snob. Safeway, Giant, and Food Lion just do NOT do it for me. I'm used to fresh produce, high quality meat, cheese bars, and delicious in-store bakeries. We love shopping here. The store is pretty new, large, bright, and above all, clean. (Everything you'd want in a grocery store, right?) The produce selection is diverse and fresh, haven't seen or bought anything welted or otherwise leaving us unsatisfied. The meat/seafood selection is great and the guys working back there (and the whole store for that matter) are very friendly. As for selection in the rest of the store, there's one brand of pasta I can find at Giant/other stores, but not here. Otherwise, no complaints. Having never really heard of HT or how they positioned their brand before shopping here, I'd peg them along the same vein of Whole Foods by quality of meats/produce/organic products, but with all the normal packaged food you find anywhere else. read more

Harris Teeter: Better than Giant but not Wegmans. A few points bear mentioning: On the good side: - The guy making the sushi is quite the artist. It looks gorgeous and it tastes better than what I find in the sushi restaurants. (Better than the sushi in Whole Foods or Balducci's too.) - The fresh pizza is very good; the crust is wonderful. Bad side: - Desserts are too pedestrian. They need to take a look at Whole Foods or Wegmans. - What is with those registers? I cannot get used to the way you put your carts on one side and then walk to the other side. Makes it hard to figure out which line is the shortest when you are on one side and people are walking "in front" of you on the other side. And the self-checkout is confusing. My experience working for Harris teeter has been horrible. For the way they treat their employees that have put in their time and energy for years to start a career, they have no compassion or acknowledgement for recognizing the hard work most employees sacrificed. I can guarantee if they are going to continue treating former employees this way, Harris teeter will not survive. Maybe in the short run but based on my experience, they are headed down a slippery slope and probably will not make it in the long run if they can't change their ways but good luck though. read more

This Harris Teeter takes customer service to another level. I work right around the corner and pop in frequently to pick up lunch or a few things before I head home. Every time I come in, I am greeted by a clean and welcoming store. *Floral Department* This is a go-to place if you want to pick up an arrangement. I stopped in today in need of something specific. I wanted to pick up a bouquet that was small and the perfect size for a small child for her recital. The lady who runs the floral department had no problem helping with my special request. She put together some flowers that had smaller tops and trimmed them down to the perfect length for little hands. The bouquet was a hit! Everyone came up to me and asked where I got it from. I loved that the employee of this department took the time to help me make this a special day! *Sushi* They make fresh sushi here and the employees are more than willing to put something together for you. I really enjoy their hand rolls with the tapioca paper and from time to time will request on that has different ingredients from what they put out on the shelf. They are always happy to accommodate my requests. I honestly feel that the sushi is slightly overpriced here but its great quality compared to the packaged mess you see in other stores. The store is modern and has an easy to follow lay out. They carry a lot of unique products that other stores don't carry. They don't have a great selection of organic products and there are a lot of items that are a bit more expensive than other stores (safeway, wegmans), so I tend to not do a full shop here. *Tip* Parking is a hassle. I have never had a problem just parking in the garage and taking the elevator up. It beats hunting for a space especially with all of the construction they have been having in the area lately. read more

This is for the FLORIST section of the store. AWESOME... I picked up a bouquet for a client that had a family member that recently passed. When I picked a nice display in the refridgerator, ( I WISH I got her name), a nice employee came over and offered to arrange it in a nice presentable box (which was GREAT because it would've definately tipped over in my car!). We are regulars here every week, and sometimes twice a week. I wouldn't call it perfection but this is a really nice location and a great offering of everything we need. The store is smaller than most Teeter locations, but it suffices for all of our needs. The mix of available items is excellent. They are not perfect, but those are tough shoes to fill, especially in such a low margin business. This location has a hot bar and hot poultry daily, and self check-out. Many of the products are high end, but considering the location it makes sense. We shop in the middle to middle-upper end, and this store has a great balance of things in that range. read more

This Harris Teeter is really expensive but the customer service is EXCELLENT and the shopping experience makes it almost worth it. We come here mostly for the butcher shop, which is great. The guys are always friendly and helpful and the quality of meats and fish is top notch. We always get our week's worth of $1.99/lb chicken breasts at once and it's a great money saver! Also, the bakery made us a peanut butter lady finger cake for my daughter's birthday and it was AWESOME! Their bakery is worth checking out too!! Our favorite part of the store is the cashiers! My favorite grocery store in Maryland. I go here after work, park upstairs and I'm in and out with no problems. During the day, it sometimes gets crowded but there is parking underneath which is great. Check out weekday pizza deals and also rotisserie chix sales. read more
