I haven't had good luck w/ Medicine Chest in Mclean. They are not very detail oriented and not understanding when they make an error. I have slowly moved all of my Rx's to other pharmacies. Medicine Chest seems to only operate in assembly line fashion, anything that happens outside of the assembly line is a problem. If I call and need a prescription refilled (vacation/etc) they will ask me wait 48 hours. Any prescription that I don't need immediately will arrive 2 weeks before I need it. I had to take everything off automatic refill because I had too much medication and when a dosage changed I was stuck with a lot of useless meds. Check your compounded meds very carefully. Regarding customer service, the staff is not able to put themselves in the customers shoes. read more

Oh my god. Ever since I realized what costs at CVS $99 uninsured costs $35 uninsured at Costco Pharmacy (free to use even for non-members), I've been strictly loyal to Costco. But its location is impossibly far away; I had no choice today but to try Medicine Chest. What cost $20 insured at Costco costs $20 insured here. Meanwhile I stocked up on a whole bunch of stuff because their selection is magical. This is going to sound over the top like a fake review but I'm honestly going to drag my sister-in-law here like it's an attraction for all the wellness items it had (e.g. nasal cleaning pots) in addition to drugs, good for people like her (pregnant) who need alternatives. I do not know what their uninsured prices are, I still feel very positive towards Costco, but this place is lit. all my dreams come true as someone who needs a pharmacy in McLean. Their selection seems good from what I can tell. I use probiotics to help regulate my digestive system; I've been hospitalized for problems with it, and have def. determined my fav priobiotic Align by trial and error. (I hope that Nima B. will work with TMC to take care of any misunderstanding that occurred.) Forget discount pharmacies!!! They just make your blood pressure go up! TMC is on your side! The Medicine Chest in McLean VA worked with me today to navigate through CVS Caremark's convoluted system to get a denied prescription through. (The dosage for the medicine was being increased but was being split into two doses by my physician and CVS Caremark denied it repeatedly until it was overridden with the help from a CVS Caremark representative.) I spoke with the Medicine Chest three times or more on a Saturday morning to get the prescription denial resolved. (Unfortunately, this procedure will have to be done monthly because drug insurers and health insurance companies are huge bureaucracies that do not care about you!) MC is sending the prescription by same day delivery to me for receipt on Monday when I will have taken my last dose. I have a complicated health history, and The Medicine Chest Pharmacy in McLean VA has been navigating for me for the past two years trying to work with previous specialty providers who have lied to me (and to TMC repeatedly about issuing refills). I have dumped my specialty doc in LA and I now go to a The Kaplan Clinic, a functional medical practice literally across the street from TMC; my Kaplan Clinic doctors have a great (very functional!) relationship with TMC. The pharmacists, including the owner and the representatives who check you out at the register,​ are patient and kind. It's just amazing that this tiny, tiny place can perform such a BIG, BIG service! . . . and, where would you find a pharmacy that ships for no charge? . . . not a closer compounding pharmacy (which will remain unnamed which begged me to come back while trying to justify their delivery charges to me after years of botched service.) The Medicine Chest in McLean puts on the Muck Boots to slog through any problem that you may have. This is a pharmacological love story! 7/20/2012 I love these guys. I wear support stockings for circulations issues in my legs. They are always on point. Always sit me down ask me questions (same ones by diff folks) which lets me know they care for each person. They are always available and have a neat small store with alot of medicine that folks come for. Its like a Mom and Pop store with all the good stuff the CVS has as far as medicine. But for my support socks I got to have them they feel great and I believe they have almost cured my condition. Great Staff...and Great Service...put these guys before anybody first! UPDATE: 3/26/14 I really love these guys...I just called asked for my compression socks and they had them my size, color and compression rate. I needed them bad today and I feel good now. Great pharmacy. Kind of like an old fashioned pharmacy (without the soda fountain). One of the few compounding pharmacies in the area. Very friendly pharmacists and staff. It's not in my neighborhood, but it's worth the drive (or shipment). The small space can create indoor traffic jams, but it also makes for great people watching and listening. The woman on her cell phone complaining that she had maxed out her oxycontin for the month was memorable. read more

Medicine Chest is the best pharmacy. I have used several drug store chains, independent pharmacies, and also mail order pharmacies. Medicine Chest is far superior to all of them. First, their prices are better than their competitors (at least for my medicines). On one medication it was $100 cheaper! Second, the customer service is exceptional. I have gotten both phone calls and texts to double check things and the people there have been lovely. Third, they deliver (and who wants to go to a pharmacy these days? not me!) and it arrives quickly, unlike some other places. I rarely write reviews, but felt like they deserved a shout out. Horrible experience today. I needed medication urgently. I was told come back 4 days later. The guy at the cash register was kind but the obese male pharmacist was rude. He showed zero concern or compassion. I called Preston pharmacy and they said they would make the medication immediately. As a physician I was shocked at the insincerity of the pharmacist. I've been to all kinds of Pharmacies in the D.C. Metro area and this store is the best of them all with regards to customer service! I needed a wheelchair assembles within 30 minutes so I went there for assistance and not only did they help me quickly but they replaced a defective part at no cost! Also, I found out that they rent out equipment (like a walker) by the day/week which is super handy for when my mom got out of the hospital. They are knowledgable and are never too busy to help you and truly answer questions, in detail. They discuss possible side effects and drug interactions if necessary. After very slow customer service at CVS in McLean I decided to try Giant so I could drop off and get my groceries as it was being full and the pick up at end of my shopping. Oh, no. I went from a place of slow service to one that is down right rude and even more impersonal. You can read what happened on the Yelp page for Giant. I cancelled those prescriptions that same trip and went to the Medicine Chest. What a 180!!! People who actually greet you when you walk through the door! Make eye contact! And fill your prescriptions in the time they say they will. I am a customer for as long as I live in McLean. They are worth the extra stop on the list of errands everyone has in a day. My mother-in-law had a setback on Memorial Day, when many businesses were closed, and we needed to rent a wheelchair for her that day. I went to the Medicine Chest, got caring and competent advice from then, and was able to rent a wheelchair for a reasonable price. Mr. Danoff was helpful, kind, warm, and aware of all the issues we needed to address. His wife was helping him in the pharmacy that day, as he had given his other employees time off for the holiday, and she was warm and helpful as well. I immediately feel in love with these people and their business. And the Japanese food in their neighborhood is excellent as well. read more

With so many pharmacy options within walking distance of each other there are plenty of choices, professional choices, that one can make. My Mother used to go to Giant and by all rights that's where I should have gone. Instead I chose The Medicine Chest. What a glorious decision it was. TMC feels like the "Cheers" of pharmacies because everyone knows your name. They know their business, know their customers, and make sure that customers are informed. This is the greatest pharmacy in the Washington DC area. I will never go anywhere else. I am the mother of 2 young children and have, out of habit, been going to CVS for years. My youngest child was recently sick and the doctor finally suggested that I buy, versus borrow, a nebulizer. The prescription was written for the machine and accompanying medication. After a long, difficult afternoon trying to get everything straight with CVS, I finally gave up. I called The Medicine Chest, 15 minutes before they were closing. They spoke directly with CVS, transfered all of the prescriptions over, stayed open late and filled every single one. They even gave me several nebulizer masks to make the process easier for my 4 year old to take the medication. I have since been back a couple of times and every time, the experience is the same - EXCEPTIONAL.
