Oh my god. Ever since I realized what costs at CVS $99 uninsured costs $35 uninsured at Costco Pharmacy (free to use even for non-members), I've been strictly loyal to Costco. But its location is impossibly far away; I had no choice today but to try Medicine Chest. What cost $20 insured at Costco costs $20 insured here. Meanwhile I stocked up on a whole bunch of stuff because their selection is magical. This is going to sound over the top like a fake review but I'm honestly going to drag my sister-in-law here like it's an attraction for all the wellness items it had (e.g. nasal cleaning pots) in addition to drugs, good for people like her (pregnant) who need alternatives. I do not know what their uninsured prices are, I still feel very positive towards Costco, but this place is lit. all my dreams come true as someone who needs a pharmacy in McLean. Their selection seems good from what I can tell. I use probiotics to help regulate my digestive system; I've been hospitalized for problems with it, and have def. determined my fav priobiotic Align by trial and error. I noticed it was stocked prominently. read more

This is the best pharmacy. The techs are so helpful and they are top notch h on customer service. They are so efficient. A quick call for a refill and they will have my rx in the mail to me the same or next day. read more

A pharmacy that truly cares. Great service! The best! I highly recommend them. If you haven't already give them a try.

Amazing mom-and-pop pharmacy with welcoming and attentive staff. Come here to get personal service that you won't receive at the corporate pharmacies that are ubiquitous throughout northern virignia. read more

I haven't had good luck w/ Medicine Chest in Mclean. They are not very detail oriented and not understanding when they make an error. I have slowly moved all of my Rx's to other pharmacies. Medicine Chest seems to only operate in assembly line fashion, anything that happens outside of the assembly line is a problem. If I call and need a prescription refilled (vacation/etc) they will ask me wait 48 hours. Any prescription that I don't need immediately will arrive 2 weeks before I need it. I had to take everything off automatic refill because I had too much medication and when a dosage changed I was stuck with a lot of useless meds. Check your compounded meds very carefully. Regarding customer service, the staff is not able to put themselves in the customers shoes. read more

Consistently excellent service and a management ability to have the right inventory when you need it! Ed, the pharmacist, is charming and knows his stuff! They may be small, but they're mighty. They are able to have on inventory medicines that other compound pharmacies and big drugstores don't-- for that I'm forever grateful. Thanks Ed and Medicine Chest Gang for stocking the right meds for this community. read more

If there were 6 stars available, that would be my vote! (A cautionary tale: before you take TMC's one bad review to heart, [review right below this review], please look at Preston Pharmacy's reviews. You will unequivocally choose TMC!) (I hope that Nima B. will work with TMC to take care of any misunderstanding that occurred.) Forget discount pharmacies!!! They just make your blood pressure go up! TMC is on your side! The Medicine Chest in McLean VA worked with me today to navigate through CVS Caremark's convoluted system to get a denied prescription through. (The dosage for the medicine was being increased but was being split into two doses by my physician and CVS Caremark denied it repeatedly until it was overridden with the help from a CVS Caremark representative.) I spoke with the Medicine Chest three times or more on a Saturday morning to get the prescription denial resolved. (Unfortunately, this procedure will have to be done monthly because drug insurers and health insurance companies are huge bureaucracies that do not care about you!) MC is sending the prescription by same day delivery to me for receipt on Monday when I will have taken my last dose. I have a complicated health history, and The Medicine Chest Pharmacy in McLean VA has been navigating for me for the past two years trying to work with previous specialty providers who have lied to me (and to TMC repeatedly about issuing refills). I have dumped my specialty doc in LA and I now go to a The Kaplan Clinic, a functional medical practice literally across the street from TMC; my Kaplan Clinic doctors have a great (very functional!) relationship with TMC. The pharmacists, including the owner and the representatives who check you out at the register, are patient and kind. It's just amazing that this tiny, tiny place can perform such a BIG, BIG service! . . . and, where would you find a pharmacy that ships for no charge? . . . not a closer compounding pharmacy (which will remain unnamed which begged me to come back while trying to justify their delivery charges to me after years of botched service.) The Medicine Chest in McLean puts on the Muck Boots to slog through any problem that you may have. This is a pharmacological love story! Thanks for your patience, kindness and for getting the job done! read more

7/20/2012 I love these guys. I wear support stockings for circulations issues in my legs. They are always on point. Always sit me down ask me questions (same ones by diff folks) which lets me know they care for each person. They are always available and have a neat small store with alot of medicine that folks come for. Its like a Mom and Pop store with all the good stuff the CVS has as far as medicine. But for my support socks I got to have them they feel great and I believe they have almost cured my condition. Great Staff...and Great Service...put these guys before anybody first! UPDATE: 3/26/14 I really love these guys...I just called asked for my compression socks and they had them my size, color and compression rate. I needed them bad today and I feel good now. AHHHHH.... read more

Love this McLean institution. Solid place to get your flu shots and even the Shigrix shingles shot. They work like a well-oiled machine and your transaction is smooth and seamless. If you're lucky, their resident dog is there to help with the tension of getting an injection. The best place for your Rx needs. read more

Great pharmacy. Kind of like an old fashioned pharmacy (without the soda fountain). One of the few compounding pharmacies in the area. Very friendly pharmacists and staff. It's not in my neighborhood, but it's worth the drive (or shipment). The small space can create indoor traffic jams, but it also makes for great people watching and listening. The woman on her cell phone complaining that she had maxed out her oxycontin for the month was memorable. read more

I signed up to yelp just to rate these guys. They have a pharmacy dog. Super local. Super friendly. Also professional and helpful. I live in arlington but will be driving out to McLean just so I can go to this pharmacy. read more

Medicine Chest Pharmacy - Local and friendly! - Pharmacy Near Me - McLean, Virginia

I work for a dentist in Mclean and need to call in prescriptions several times a day. This is by far the easiest pharmacy to deal with. They actually answer the phone and are very helpful as well as friendly. read more

Medicine Chest is the best pharmacy. I have used several drug store chains, independent pharmacies, and also mail order pharmacies. Medicine Chest is far superior to all of them. First, their prices are better than their competitors (at least for my medicines). On one medication it was $100 cheaper! Second, the customer service is exceptional. I have gotten both phone calls and texts to double check things and the people there have been lovely. Third, they deliver (and who wants to go to a pharmacy these days? not me!) and it arrives quickly, unlike some other places. I rarely write reviews, but felt like they deserved a shout out. A+ read more

Horrible experience today. I needed medication urgently. I was told come back 4 days later. The guy at the cash register was kind but the obese male pharmacist was rude. He showed zero concern or compassion. I called Preston pharmacy and they said they would make the medication immediately. As a physician I was shocked at the insincerity of the pharmacist. He was more upset having to work on NYE and being short staffed. Terrible Terrible Terrible! read more

Love all the staff at the Medicine Chest!!! They make filling a prescription or getting anything else health related a total breeze & even a pleasure! They are super professional, knowledgeable, super helpful & very kind. Thank you Medicine Chest! I'll never go anywhere else again. read more

Consistently exceptional service. A neighborhood pharmacy with personal attention. Fully stocked and always flexible.

Big, big love for Medicine Chest Pharmacy! Smart, efficient, effective, personable, knowledgeable and really caring. Just the best. Always, always helpful and dedicated to getting everything correct and making sure you have exactly what you need. LOVE them. read more

Not a big fan of the Medicine Chest Pharmacy. I think they are a rip off! Wouldn't recommend it to my family or friends. I will stick with a big pharmacies that have a fully stocked supply of medical and health supplies. read more

Great pharmacy. Great people. They are like members of our family and routinely go out of their way to help us when we are in a jam, and even when we are not. From after-hours deliveries to flu shots and special orders, these folks are the best. They remind me daily of what service used to be like when I was growing up. I can't say enough good about them and feel blessed that they are here in McLean. read more

I've been to all kinds of Pharmacies in the D.C. Metro area and this store is the best of them all with regards to customer service! I needed a wheelchair assembles within 30 minutes so I went there for assistance and not only did they help me quickly but they replaced a defective part at no cost! Also, I found out that they rent out equipment (like a walker) by the day/week which is super handy for when my mom got out of the hospital. They treat each person with respect and genuinely seem to care. CVS will never compare... read more

Great neighborhood pharmacy with great service. Unlike most other "big box" pharmacies, Medicine Chest does specialize in compounding and can provide drug combinations that allows your doctor to tailor your treatment to you, and not to the pharmaceutical companies. If you live in the McLean area, this is a great place for your medicinal needs. read more

Extremely friendly and great customer service. As other reviewers noted, they compound medicine for you and can tailor treatments. They are knowledgable and are never too busy to help you and truly answer questions, in detail. They discuss possible side effects and drug interactions if necessary. They know your name after a couple of visits, always greeting you with a cheerful, "Hello Mr/Mrs LastName" when you come in. Not just me, but I've heard them do that with others. How can you beat that? I only go elsewhere when it's an emergency and they're closed--I wait if I can. read more

I've been using The Medicine Chest for years and years. I love them. Very knowledgeable. They'll answer my many questions, even when they're busy. I find it really nice that they greet most of their long-term customers by name. They're always looking out for your best interest and truly feel like family. My insurance deductible is the same at any pharmacy, so why not go to one that's great! read more

I love this place, they always go above and beyond, when Chains like, C^* wouldn't help me if I was on fire! I live 25 min from medicine chest and still choose to go there because it feels like they care, and they know me without judgment. Each and every person there has personally taken time to assist me and helped to get me out quickly or answer questions I had. Love a small business and they are half the price of C*^! Half a month of my meds (that are not covered by insurance) at c@$ is a whole month at Medicine Chest! They are great!!! read more

After very slow customer service at CVS in McLean I decided to try Giant so I could drop off and get my groceries as it was being full and the pick up at end of my shopping. Oh, no. I went from a place of slow service to one that is down right rude and even more impersonal. You can read what happened on the Yelp page for Giant. I cancelled those prescriptions that same trip and went to the Medicine Chest. What a 180!!! People who actually greet you when you walk through the door! Make eye contact! And fill your prescriptions in the time they say they will. I am a customer for as long as I live in McLean. They are worth the extra stop on the list of errands everyone has in a day. You will leave wishing every errand was that easy. And I almost forgot...they will deliver if you live in the area!!!! read more

My mother-in-law had a setback on Memorial Day, when many businesses were closed, and we needed to rent a wheelchair for her that day. I went to the Medicine Chest, got caring and competent advice from then, and was able to rent a wheelchair for a reasonable price. Mr. Danoff was helpful, kind, warm, and aware of all the issues we needed to address. His wife was helping him in the pharmacy that day, as he had given his other employees time off for the holiday, and she was warm and helpful as well. I immediately feel in love with these people and their business. And the Japanese food in their neighborhood is excellent as well. read more

With so many pharmacy options within walking distance of each other there are plenty of choices, professional choices, that one can make. My Mother used to go to Giant and by all rights that's where I should have gone. Instead I chose The Medicine Chest. What a glorious decision it was. TMC feels like the "Cheers" of pharmacies because everyone knows your name. They know their business, know their customers, and make sure that customers are informed. On second thought..I might be better served to lower the star amount afraid that too much good press could inundate the pharmacy! Time after time they've steered me in the right direction. This small little pharmacy packs a big punch carrying cold and flue medicines along with several high end brands of for skin care, especially lotions. Remember to say hello to Sunny! read more

I cannot say enough good things about the people at the medicine chest and the service they provide. I get all my prescriptions from them including flu shots. when I got out o the hospital, they sent my prescriptions to me at no additional charge read more

I have had the privledge of being of sharing the misphap using Medicine Chest every month for "all" my prescriptions for the last 35 years. I trust this great pharmacy with my very life. Over the years as my disease has progressed they have used their vast knowledge of the pharmaceutical art, to formulate medications, ointments custom tailored to my needs. My life has been improved do greatuy because of the fine tuned approach to my health. My disease ate my flesh aand have created custom creations to assuage my symptoms. The prices are always reasonable and everyone goes out of their way to assure that not only my medical needs are met but financial assistance in the form of offering generic alternatives, dosage management , with coupons assure my financial health. Notes attached to my prescriptions encourage patients like myself to participate in discounts offered., along with simple surprises such as discounts to local community events. A simple ticket to a musical event or it made me feel alive. When cancer ravages your life to asked to put on a pretty dress and come out and play is a wonderful treatment. Big chains, throw your meds u days medications are tossed onto front seats and eye contact is fleeting. Your left in tears to roll forward as some other persons monies is more valuable than a simpe hug or a little advice. During these many years, the sweetest guidance came from the cashiers . Always ready wit a silly joke after a horrid rush hour. 0ne hot day I arrived vomiting from treatment. I eas insnle to keep my head off the floor. They rushed to provide medications to control my extreme nausea and brought out to me. My husband has been treated. Like a partner not an a annoying wallet. If you are looking for the human touch, rest assured your loved ones will find compassion. The whole staff have been touched by health issues and have ltreat everyone as if they are beloved familiy members.their sack read more

This is the greatest pharmacy in the Washington DC area. I will never go anywhere else. I am the mother of 2 young children and have, out of habit, been going to CVS for years. My youngest child was recently sick and the doctor finally suggested that I buy, versus borrow, a nebulizer. The prescription was written for the machine and accompanying medication. After a long, difficult afternoon trying to get everything straight with CVS, I finally gave up. I called The Medicine Chest, 15 minutes before they were closing. They spoke directly with CVS, transfered all of the prescriptions over, stayed open late and filled every single one. They even gave me several nebulizer masks to make the process easier for my 4 year old to take the medication. I have since been back a couple of times and every time, the experience is the same - EXCEPTIONAL. They are helpful, knowledgeable and they recognize that getting a prescription likely means that someone is sick - so they are extra patient and caring. read more
