Outside of using the Giant in Potomac Village for my day to day needs, I wanted to address the bakery department; specifically, Tim who is the head baker there. When I moved her years ago, people sent me to free standing bakeries where they charged hundreds of dollars for specialty cakes and one day when I was in a rush I picked up a ready made cake at The Potomac Giant. The cake was beyond delicious and I found out that they took custom orders. I started working with Tim and I believe he had made my family around 30 cakes in the past years. Today, I picked up the most beautiful sheet cake for a going away party for a friend of ours moving to Florida. Tim spent hours on the cake and it shows in every detail. This Giant is great! I wanted to give a special shoutout to Joe, who works outside helping people load groceries and tending to the outdoor displays. He is WONDERFUL!! He has been there forever and is such a kind person. He always greets me with a hello and a smile when I enter this Giant, and he truly makes it feel like a neighborhood store. I am so happy with my custom cake for my granddaughter's birthday. I called and they were so nice and helped me through the whole process. I found pictures of their custom cakes online. The next call was to my granddaughter to see what kind of cake she wanted for her birthday. Minnie Mouse won the prize. I ordered on the phone and it was ready for me, when I arrived. I went to this Giant for three items and returned with nothing as the items on the shelf were all past their due date by three months. I will never return again as even their employees will acknowledge that the Giant has become more expensive than Whole Foods ( where at least they remove past dated items) read more

Used to be cramped but was reorganized and expanded in April 2023, changing storage areas to shopping areas. Some departments are weirdly spacious, perhaps reserved for pop-up displays in the future? For now it just looks like a poorly laid out store. On the other hand, I'd rather have the extra space than too little like the Safeway across the street. Highlights: Staff are plentiful, friendly, and competent. Lowlights: Hours have been cut back to 10pm closing every day. read more

There's only one department worth a damn....and that's the pharmacy. The rest of this store is saddled with terrible product selection and awful service. The seafood department is awful (nothing EVER looks fresh - have they ever heard of keeping stuff on ice??) Maybe they've just given up because realize that people who want a decent selection of fish just go up the road to River Falls or Potomac Market. The bakery is a joke. They run out of stuff constantly. One week they have certain packaged breads...the next week they don't. And selling THOSE awful fake bagels in Potomac? What are they thinking? The prepared foods area is sad. Just old and sad-looking foods. Finally - every other grocery chain - Wegmans, Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, The Fresh Market - ALL OF THEM - have brought back their salad bar and olive bar. Giant's salad bar was never as good as any of theirs in the past...and now it simply is gone. WHY??? Please don't blame the pandemic. Everyone else has managed to resume that service. Finally - this store only survives because Safeway is even worse. This Giant serves an upscale area. The products and service should reflect that. And it doesn't. Shameful. I guess this is what you get when a Dutch Multinational corporation owns your local grocery store. read more

I went to Giant Potomac pharmacy for the Covid vaccination with an appointment scheduled, email and text verification for this appointment. All the necessary forms completed online and they had this record and I gave a copy, as well. I was told to refill the same forms which I did. Then, I was given a ticket number and told to return in 45 minutes even with the appointment. I didn't understand the reason for this and none was given. Other walk-ins were given the vaccination ahead of me. It was obvious that no one cared about inconveniencing me nor appointments. I used the phone to contact someone that I would be late due to Giant's error, and the pharmacist yelled at me for using a phone in pharmacy area, yet, she is standing by the counter in front of others who are waiting and sitting after Covid vaccination talking about their names, insurance, etc.. I watched the pharmacist give the vaccines by the counter to clients without them sitting nor any privacy for their information. This pharmacy discriminates, my names are obviously not Anglo (except for married name) so I will go to Safeway or CVS in future where I will be treated with respect, equity and also, they have have a patient room for privacy while pharmacists verifies pertinent health information with you for patient safety and are organized. read more

We shop here regularly. Generally the selection is okay, but I have several problems. The produce offered is limited in scope and at times not as fresh as it should be. There are usually only 2 or 3 varieties of mushrooms and oranges. The greens in bags are almost always limp and partially unusable. They constantly discontinue carrying items that my family enjoys, such as Progresso Black Bean soup and frozen shrimp wonton soup, and are not responsive to requests to restock the items. Management is constantly rearranging the store, which is annoying. read more

I'm soooo glad yelp has a separate category for the Pharmacy within the Giant store. I think I mentioned in my review of the Giant (store) that their Pharmacy staff was (and is) first-rate! They have resolved numerous issues for my over the years including: 1) calling & faxing the doctor to renew prescriptions, 2) recommending OTC (over the counter) meds as alternatives to prescriptions, 3) rush service when you need ur scrip's immediately! (ie. pain meds), etc. They are truly professionals in the best sense of the word and I can't give them enough praise! The BEST,- period! read more

Yet another grocery store in the Potomac area to completely remodel and re-do the interior of their store. Well, by "yet another," I mean the only other grocery store in Potomac Village. Regardless, the old giant definitely needed a makeover. It starts when you walk in where they offer "by the pound" bulk nuts, grains etc. as well a cool concept -- a pricing gun and reusable bags. You can scan all your items as you shop to see 1) what you are spending and 2) make check out in the auto-lanes easier. Its pretty cool. The produce section is far nicer as is the cheese area. These seem to be the most noticeable, aside from the larger aisles and easier to find system. It seems that the types of stuff you can find at Giant now is a bit better than in the past. The prepared food section didn't change much, and neither did the meat/fish. Overall, they definitely made the store a more pleasant place to shop. read more

The pharmacy at the Potomac Village Giant is my absolute favorite of the 3 available pharmacies (Walgreens and Rite Aid are the other 2). The pharmacy staff is the epitome of excellent customer service - making sure to take care of issues (should there be any) before I even come in to pick up my prescriptions. None of the other pharmacies in the Village do that, making me wait endlessly when I go to pick up my prescription, adding to my wait time and frustration levels with them. I definitely recommend using them for all your pharmaceutical needs and only using the other 2 as a last resort! (Only reason I docked a star is because I've now slipped twice entering the store - the flower area always has water spills and there is rarely a sign. Bad news if you're wearing flip-flops!) read more

this review is for the pharmacy only. the staff are rude and have filled my prescription wrong more than once. My doctor was very upset when they gave me generic when the doctor did not allow generic on the prescription. he said I should report them to the fda. also I have heard the pharmacists discussing people prescriptions in a negative way and it should be private info. no one needs to know what prescription I have. really. please avoid this place. read more

The grocery items are getting very pricey. You would be better off shopping at a local independent store and you would definitely get better quality. The bakery has decent bread and some of the cakes are high quality. read more

Prices are getting out of hand, a $1 for a garlic clove?? Also I've found that small independent stores are competitive for shelf goods. I now do most of my shopping at the larger Asian markets where the product is better and much cheaper. read more

We shop at this Giant regularly because it is convenient for us. We tend to shop at Giant for specific items that are important to us. Giant rates high on selection and availability, moderate on quality and price. Periodically, Giant offer discounts, sometimes on items of interest to us. We always check the receipt before leaving the store because advertised and in-store discounts are not always actually honored until one asks for them. We don't mind this because it has become a routine for us at this store. One comment on the drugstore at Giant: it is outstanding in quality and service, the best anywhere near here. read more

Came to the pharmacy with new scripts based on the stellar reviews. I have never had worse service at a pharmacy as I have had here. I went on a Friday morning thinking it would be slow. However, the woman working the counter was visibly frazzled which in turn resulted in terrible customer service. I presented a drug discount card which clearly had the Giant logo printed on it and she wasn't having it. She stated I would need to sign up for the Giant discount card. She handed me the application and started answering phone calls. Since I wasn't aware of the pricing with their card I had more questions. I told her I would like to get more information on how much it would cost before I would sign up and that I would just like to proceed with the card I had. She was put out by the whole situation and outright rude. She stated it would take 30 minutes just to get me the pricing info and probably an hour for them to even fulfill the prescription. I was going to wait but decided I didn't want to deal with this attitude every time I needed to come in for a script and walked out with my prescription. The store itself is small but a little better than the one on Tuckerman. I like that this Giant has all the organic items in one aisle and there appears to be more selection here than the other one. Since being in Potomac, I have realized you can either get excellent service or it is out right terrible. There really is nothing in-between. Unfortunately, the bad is outweighing the good and it makes me miss the Gaithersburg/North Potomac area. read more

the pharmacists are generally very nice at this giant pharmacy and theyve proven very efficient as ive raised many kids over the last 28 years- i do now notice though in the last 2 years that things seem to be falling apart- prescriptions are not filled...doctors are not called when they say theyll call...there is one cashier/receptionist that is exceptionally curt and rude...doctors call and leave prescriptions with pharmacist and for some reason or other they are not filled nor acknowledged. this is getting very frustrating and im planning on using another pharmacy which is too bad because its a very convenient location. read more
