All stores are not alike, even if they are owned by the same company. I usually do my shopping at Harris Teeter in Park Potomac. But, I was really close to this store on Copley Place and decided to pop in. For me, this location was a bit confusing. I am sure if I shopped here more often I would probably get used to the aisles and grocery items. The people who work there were as nice as could be. They pointed me in the right direction and one person, even walked me over to the aisle I was looking for. Unfortunately, this store was out of both items I was shopping for. I did find a few things I needed. But, as I came up to the counter, I saw the cherry tomatoes that I picked up, were rotting at the bottom. So, I gave them back to the person working there. I hate to compare, but I really don't think this store is as clean as the one I usually shop at. So, given that they were out of stock for the items I usually buy and the item I picked up was spoiled. I probably won't be coming back to this Harris Teeter. It is such a shame, because my last review, was 10 years ago, but they had such promise. read more

Honestly, five stars for a clean and easily accessible restroom. While driving home to D.C. from Gaithersburg, I had to pee sooooooo bad. I couldn't wait. This is my go-to store due to the distance from my house. It can be expensive if you don't have the VIC Card. The employees are nice and will help you. I love the selections and the customers are classy. I used to go to Giant's in Gaithersburg but that place is dirty and parking is always an issue. Outside of them practically never having the specific herbs I'm looking for, I do appreciate this store. The layout is expansive, and they really do a wide selection of pretty much everything. Honestly, if they carried the Kraft dairy free cheese slices... I'd have no reason to go to Giant lol. Man do I love those Kraft dairy free cheese slices. But yeah, if you're comparing Harris Teeter to grocery stores in the area you're looking at Giant on Muddy Branch (a bit small with a smaller selection), Giant in Kentlands ( huge.. but feels crowded all the time and hard to get through IMO), and Whole Foods (has none of my beloved brands). I really like this Harris Teeter comparatively, and even though Muddy Branch giant is approximately 38 seconds door to door for me - I tend to go over to this Harris Teeter quite often (about 4-5 minutes away). They have about 6 self check out scanners and I would say the vast majority of people use them as opposed to the lines. Maybe also because bringing a cart through the Harris Teeter cashiers is always an exercise in confusion. Ifykyk. Produce at this store seems fresher than Giant as well, or maybe that's just how it's displayed, but I feel like the selection and the quality is better than Giant. Just please... please... whoever is doing the produce ordering. Get a handle on your stock of herbs lol. I've been there more times than I can count and maybe it's sage or cilantro or dill I'm looking for and they are like out or have 1 last packet/selection. read more

Its a decent HT. Moderatly priced. Store seems empty most times. Departments like Seafood and Deli always has friendly staff willing to help or assist. I like how they keep the store organized and clean. I can always find a shopping cart at its designated location. Their meats and seafood are good quality. However they lack in staffing. You have to hunt someone down to get help, better luck in going to customer service if they are ever at their counter. This happens at any given time of the day. Pharmacy peeps are ok. Deoends on who you get and they are S L O W and expensive if you pay out of pocket. Check out: i dont like their layout. One lane for your cart and other for yourself. We picked up a few Ingredients to make pizza and decided to get a few other grocery items. There was a lot of fresh produce here today. The odd thing was that there were no carts available at the entry way. I guess people were shopping ahead of the snow that was predicted to come tomorrow. My husband had to follow someone to their car to get a cart. Nevertheless, there were lots of sales going on in the store. Clean, bright and very well stocked. Harris Teeter is a top tier supermarket with high quality and prices that generally tend to reflect that. Which is not to say that you can't find a bargain at an HT, it's just that if you're doing your full shop here it won't be cheap. This is a pleasant shopping experience. The associates are nice and smiling. The store is laid out in a logical manner with a very tidy produce department and a full stocked meat department. I was able to easily find what I needed for hotel room snacks and drinks. Paying at the self-checkout went well. I spent 90 minutes shopping here only to find out that they live in the Stone Age and don't except any sort of mobile payment. Even the hillbilly at the county fair last week excepted mobile payment. Sorry Harris Teeter, but get with the times. Mind you, they use verifone cc machines so this is clearly a conscious decision and not a tech issue. The 99 year old running their payment processing needs to retire. They lost at least $500 just between me and one other guy in the 90 minutes I was there. Not to mention the thousands of future dollars I would have spent there. I'm disappointed because I like their seafood, steak, and produce, but having Lotte, Giant, Safeway, Dawson Market, Wegmans, Amish Market, Great Wall, New York Mart, Shoppers, Whole Foods, Aldi, and Lidl all within 3 miles...I'll be fine. read more

First let me say that I have never felt so compelled to write a review about a grocery store but I have had nothing but good experiences at the Harris Teeter in Gaithersburg. It started with Ed right before Halloween who was as friendly as can be and helped us find great deals on decorations and candy (without us asking first) and cut to today when my girlfriend and I were looking for a cake and Beatriz (cake decorator) went above and beyond to show us several options and even allowed us to try one of the cakes. This is the level of customer service that all companies should provide. Until this point I had only been to Harris Teeter once, but because of their customer service I will make it a point to drive the extra 10 minutes to come here. I came to the store with the task of picking up a cake for a colleague so didn't have time to stroll around or shop. This was my first time at this location but I have been to another location before years ago. I walked through the floral area and self-serve hot bar to get to the bakery. What I liked most about what I did see of the store was the layout, openness, and organization. I liked it more so than other grocery stores I shop at. My only complaint was that there were only two cash registers open. It took so long that I decided to go to the self-scan checkout and that moved much more fast. I would definitely come back to run quick errands and maybe grab a bite to eat for lunch. My colleague said they have 6 inch subs for $3.49 or a foot long for $5. Can't beat that. read more

No this place is not 24 hours. I'm pretty sure it was a few months ago when I tried to go to Target and the online store hours said they were open later than they actually were. I'm done with Harris Teeter though. Last time though the store, struggling to get my food while entertaining my special needs 3 yo. Every department had someone stocking or doing inventory, making the quick stop a challenge to navigate through crowded aisles. After all my efforts, I get to the check out only to find out the we're going to make me self check my own cart. I was livid. They had 5 people around the registers and a manager but wouldn't open a lane for me. I left my cart full of groceries at the check out. After making a 4am run today to find they weren't open 24hrs. He out right refused to build a small fruit tray with various berries because I only gave him four hours notice--it was early morning around 8:30am and I saw no other customers in the store. On Thursdays Harris Teeter at this location serves a prime rib dinner with potato and mixed veggies for $9.99. The prime rib is as good as you'll find in any restaurant. Lean and perfectly spiced and can be cut with a fork. The pieces are at least 1" thick and even larger if you ask for the end piece, which is a little more done than the center. Hard to imagine a grocery store does this but trust me if you like prime rib check in at Harris Teeter in Downtown Crown on Thursdays. read more

This is now my new favorite Harris Teeter! It is spacious. The produce is beautiful, even though they were almost completely void of the loose shiitake mushrooms I was searching for. It has everything I need on one level, and a huge parking lot. It's frozen Kosher food section consists of about three sections; Rockville has an entire aisle dedicated to Kosher foods, not that it really applies to me. Employees are super friendly, as the banners hanging overhead boasts. I only wish this Harris Teeter was closer, but now I need to plan my trips here around my visits to Taco Bar which is literally across Fields Road from here. read more

It's not Wegmans, but Wegmans is far away. It is by far the best supermarket in the immediate area. They have much more variety than giant, and Safeway and TJ. The day before Thanksgiving. I tried to find heavy cream all over the place. Everyone was out. To my mind that is mismanagement because obviously many people are gonna be looking for heavy cream at the last minute. Harris Teeter thought of that and had plenty of cream. When I got there in midday, there were actually multiple people there getting cream. I know this doesn't sound like much, but it is the place to go when everybody else is out. Also, it demonstrates that they are actually thinking about you, whereas the other stores are just grinding out corporate habits. They also had Yukon Gold potatoes. All the other stores said they did but they were really just yellow potatoes. Yukon golds are by far the best potatoes for mashed potatoes. You may believe russets are the best, but ask any high-end chef, and I'll tell you that it's really all about Yukon golds. Nobody, but Wegmans carried them. Everybody else was out or just told me that they're yellow potatoes are Yukon golds, which is completely wrong. They are people are knowledgeable. I've never been misguided in there, although they have so much stuff to choose from, I would hate to be somebody who just arrived from Russia, and was trying to find things in Harris Teeter. " 500 different soaps? We only have three in Russia." Let's say you want to just get something simple like a frozen pizza. They have a much wider selection than the other stores. They are meats are fine. Their produce is fine, but if you really care a lot about that you should go to Wegmans,, Costco, or the over priced Whole Foods. If you want to save a lot of money, you could do your most basic shopping at Aldi's and then go to Harris Teeter for things where a store brand won't do. All these has almost no variety so it isn't very good as the main store. it's best as doing the El cheapo basics and then use Harris Teeter as your main store. There's also a very good beer and wine store across the street. read more

I love Harris Teeter! This location is close to work and BP and I have compared prices to our Giant and found them to be pretty competitive. The deli/produce has samples of meats, cheese, bread and fruit, which is great :) They bake fresh pizzas in the store and have monthly specials on certain pies. In November, the pizza special was large steak and cheese for $7.99 and the non-special is I think $14.99. I, unfortunately, did not take advantage. BP and I have also bought sushi. 10 pieces for $6.99 and the chef made the volcano roll as requested, which was pretty cool of her. Getting a VIC card is pretty simple, so sign up in-store! read more

I was visiting family for Thanksgiving and needed Italian parsley. There was none on the shelves, so I asked a young woman who was unloading produce. She said the truck had just arrived and she would check, and got back to tell me there was none. Then a nice young man (mgr of produce, maybe? I'm sorry I didn't notice name tags) approached me and said he had organic Italian parsley in the back, and asked if I wanted some. When I said yes he disappeared in the back and returned with a bunch. Very impressive, especially for one day before Thanksgiving! read more

It's been a good grocery store with decent service and prices. But a couple of recent experiences sparked concern. In one, the prices were not marked right for the product, and the clerk would not take back an item that I had just paid for that I didn't want since it was not the right one. She said the customer service was closed, and no one else could do a return, which seems like a relatively easy thing for a cashier to do. She told me to come back the next day. I told her I work and raise kids and don't have unlimited time to visit Harris Teeter. But the second situation was the bigger issue. Usually the chicken salad and other items at the deli and food bars are good. But this time after making a sandwich with the rotisserie chicken salad, I took a bite and discovered something small, jagged and hard. It was a bone that was big enough to have made me choke had I swallowed it. I have photos to prove this occurred. So you can definitely say I have a bone to pick with this Harris Teeter..... I was pretty impressed to shop here today, and might start shopping here more often. When I lived in North Bethesda (still Rockville), I shopped at Whole foods, Trader Joe's and mom's organic. I have been trying to eat healthy and buy organic food, and especially because Trader Joe's is cheap, I didn't even consider shopping at Safeway or Giant. After we moved into our new place, Safeway and Giant were the closest grocery stores, so I decided to check them out. To my surprise, Safeway was not cheaper than Whole Foods at all..........hmmm? Wasn't Whole Foods supposed to be the most expensive store in the area? Whole Foods was only expensive because its vegetable and meat selections are much better quality goods. However, other dairy products such as milk, yogurt, eggs, etc were just as expensive at Safeway, if not more. So my other options were Harris Teeter or Dawson's market. I always felt that Dawson's was a bit pricey. Harris Teeter on the other hand really shocked me today with so many sales going on. 1. I bought my organic valley milk for less than $4 (I think it was $3.80 or something) on sale. 3 haagen dazs ice creams for $10? Haven't seen that for a long time 2. They do have organic vegetable section and items on sale were very reasonably priced 3. So many buy 1 get 1 free choices throughout the store... After exploring the entire store, I felt very satisfied and happy. I think that I will go back to whole foods to purchase meat, but I can come to Harris Teeter for other grocery needs. It's big, clean, and the only grocery store in the North Potomac, Gaithersburg area that is open 24 hours a day! Prices are comparable to Giant, sometimes a bit higher on certain items, but has many sales. Nice meat and seafood dept. They have a hot food bar, Asian food bar, salad bar, and pizza by the slice with seats up front to eat too. read more

Good looking veggies with reasonable prices, several varieties of mushrooms. Prepacked sushi was looking a bit tired. Dry aged beef is available. Staff were affable and informative. Open 24 hours, but service meat and fish counters were closed by the time of my 10 PM visit. Free WiFi. Loyalty card program required for some specials, I probably won't shop at this branch unless I'm near for some other errand, but I'm encouraged to seriously explore the one near where I live. read more

This big new Crown Park development is fairly impressive as such things go, and its centerpiece is effectively this new grocery store, which is large and clean and has decent selection. The general caveat on all Harris Teeters is to get a VIC card so you can get the sale prices. They had a few slightly unusual perks for a grocery store. They appear to be doing some kind of hybrid in-person/online shopping where you order online and they put your groceries in a locker for you and you pick them up. I did not do this, but if you're the sort of person who's short on time I could imagine this being useful. Also, they had a seating area with a microwave available for use; you could buy something in the store and heat it up right away if you wanted to. And those self-checkout lanes, always prone to error, were ameliorated by the fact that a helpful employee appeared out of nowhere the minute I had trouble with a produce code. So, this being a tad nicer than other grocery stores and easily reachable by car, it gets a nice four star rating. read more

This is a 24hr Harris Teeter, which is conveniently placed right off of the highway. This is a perfect place for me to grab some groceries when I leave Shady Grove metro Station. Compared to Giant or Safeway, this has been clean and less of a hassle to check out. I applaud them for this. The parking lot is medium sized, but it has yet to bother me. It does get cramped when it gets really busy and cars are trying to drive around. Now to the actual store. I had the surprising experience of trying their sushi there. It was made with brown rice and with lower-medium grade sushi. It was a bit flat and thin for the price of 11.99 for 8 pieces. That comes out to be 1.50 per piece. I kept thinking that if you go to Yuraku for a lunch buffet for 13.95, I can have fresh sushi at like .10 per piece - yes I gorge on sushi at the buffets. Either or, it was interesting to try the brown rice which was quite clean around the mouth. As for texture, it was a bit rough, but what can you expect from brown rice. Overall, it was satisfying, but I wouldn't really go there for lunch for sushi again. I would like to try some of their hot foods because it looks delicious. BTW, get a VIC card. It's free and you'll save some money. I am planning to come here after happy hour sometime to really see the value of a 24hr grocery store. read more

The supermarket is very clean and appealing to the eye when you are shopping. The items are organized and labeled well. Associates are friendly. I love their pizza of the month deals. It is open 24 hrs which makes it quite convenient since it is near my gym. The only issue is the self checkout. The scanners are very sensitive it seems and it triggers for an attendant. Then if the attendant is with another customer and if you were next they tend not to see who was next but who is closest to them that need help. It is a hit or miss to save time. read more
