Harpoon Harry's is a near-legendary Key West breakfast stop. It seems its been around forever, and is a favorite stop-by for Key Wester and some tourists alike. As it is so popular you may have to wait to be seated. My wait wasn't long and I got a nice outdoor sidewalk, Probably, thanks in part to the fact that my partner knew the owner. The menu of Harpoon Harry's isn't all that impressive. It's pretty much just run of the mill dinner type, but with a few local additions like Key Lime Pie French Toast, Cuban Egg Sandwich, Sea Food Omelet, and Lobster Po'Boy. For my breakfast, I went for the seafood omelet with, according to the menu, lobster and lump crab with hollandaise sauce, However, I didn't find any lump crab in it and what lobster there may have been, it was so skimpy and minuscule as to hardly be noticeable. This is a must breakfast spot to dine at when you're in Key West. The employees from the host to the servers are very nice and accommodating. The decor is really cool with tons of music collectibles scattered throughout the restaurant. But the food is what makes this a great experience. For libations we had the Mimosa and Bloody Harry (spicy Bloody Mary with just the right amount of kick). For breakfast we had the pork chops and eggs and the Lobster Benedict. The pork chops were cooked to perfection and very juicy. Eggs were prepared as ordered and the fried potatoes were crisp and tasty. Lobster Benedict!! Who knew? It is simply amazing and probably enough for 2 people to share since their portions are huge!!! Seriously, we skipped lunch because we were so full from breakfast. We had the Wednesday night special...a full turkey dinner...white and dark meat covered with gravy, homemade mashed potatoes, stuffing, sweet potato mash, and cranberry relish. After waiting 40 minutes for a table. We were seated at the counter, with a huge TV above us, tuned into FOX NEWS ! What a way to totally ruin our breakfast ! Honestly, probably one of my favorite Key West restaurants. I mean, breakfast all day? How can you beat that? Not to mention, some of the most realistically priced food around. It's good, it's simple, and that's what makes it great. We went in for dinner and started with the biscuits and gravy. We both ended up getting The Diner Special. Well worth it, we left full and without feeling guilty for eating terribly or spending too much money. Not to mention, the ambiance is terrific. Lots of cute wall art and even throwback A Track tapes by our table which I really appreciated. Most importantly, our server was amazing. It was late but he was filled with energy and walked us through the menu. We waited 45 minutes for our food this morning after the kitchen lost our ticket. Our server took my soft drink to refill it and I had to ask for it back five minutes later. She was nice and apologetic, but I don't think it should have taken half an hour for someone to realize our food wasn't coming, as others got their food in under ten minutes. It's also cash only, which I didn't see on their Yelp listing or posted anywhere when we came in, but that's on us I guess for not noticing. Good thing we had cash. Prices are higher than last year, it seems. $18 for fried chicken blue plate special on Sundays -- ouch! Service by the ... ahem ... "seasoned" waitresses is fast and efficient, despite a paucity of smiles. The owner (male) does his best to make up for it with his enthusiastic greetings.
