Favorite new breakfast spot! I was recommended Harlow's Café by a friend that is native of the Phoenix area. This Cafe has been around for 44 years and serves breakfast and lunch all day. I went on a Sunday around 10:30 AM and left a little after closing. I had a friend in town from Georgia and the staff was kind enough to let us stay a little longer. They even introduced us to their freshly made banana nut and blueberry muffins! The muffins were hot and and mouthwatering. I and still craving them today. I had the Cisco breakfast which consisted of French toast, bacon, and eggs over medium. My breakfast was cooked perfectly. My friend had the biscuits and gravy. He said that he also enjoyed his meal. Our waitress was amazing and never let our coffee cups run dry. The place was busy, but we never felt rushed to leave. There was plenty of parking, even on a Sunday. The cafe is simple and decorated with old autographed photos. It has plenty of seating, especially for large groups. Give Harlow's café a try on your next brunch outing. You will not be disappointed. read more

We ordered the lunch special Philly cheese steak, albondigas soup. Service was prompt and friendly. The albondigas was ok. The meatballs obviously were commercially made. You can tell by the consistency (density) and lack of seasoning. Bought in a bag, not handmade. The soup itself was ok. Needed a bit more seasoning, but it wasn't bad. It can be difficult to get a good albondigas. The Philly was good. A good amount of meat, seemed fresh. Very pricey. Family-owned joint. I like supporting local businesses. What we ordered was good, but not great. Didn't knock my socks off. If we come back I'll try something different. Expect $15pp minimum read more

I dunno even where to begin with this amazing place. Kimberly the owner first of all is so sweet and kind her husband as well greets people and just makes you feel welcomed. The spot is small and quaint, but it's perfect for what it is. Worth the wait if you have to wait for a seat. The staff are all so friendly too. The food oh the food. So good the chicken fried steak one of the best I have ever had. Their bloody Mary's are so delicious . I can't wait to come back again. Going to have to bring my dad when we come to visit his friend. Worth the drive to Tempe to eat here. read more

I don't get what all the hype is about this place. I was there early February with my family on the way out of Tempe. It is typical coffee shop type food and pricy for what you receive. I went there because this had some of the best reviews around town. However , the food was just average and nothing special. But, they serve Farmer Bros. Coffee and it was made just right. The service was good though and the owner came to the table and introduced himself. Therefore, 3 stars for Hospitality & the good coffee. read more

The food at Harlow's taste amazing and you can tell they make everything with love. Customer service is always welcoming and friendly. I love cafes! This gem has been here for over 40 years according to the owner. I came here with a friend today to enjoy some lunch and a chat. They're busy. This is definitely the place to come for some good cafe style food. The menu was chalk full of tasty options. They also have cocktails for those of you who like to have a special beverage with your meals. The breakfast items were super tempting but I saw a French Dip and I had to get it. That sandwich is my favorite and if it's on a menu, I have to try it. It was pretty darn good. It was piled high with quality roast beef and the au jus was spot on. The fries were a bit too firm and crisp but other than that, the meal was great. I also ordered some chili because I always have to try the chili everywhere I go as well. The chili was awesome. It was very meaty and full of spice and beans as well. Yum. The owner, the staff and everyone there was welcoming and helpful. When my to go containers were leaking, the owner jumped in and came to the rescue. In no time I was on my way. I'm very excited for my leftovers. I will definitely be back for more. read more

Drove past a few times and the boss and I decided to try it. Great atmosphere and friendly faces right away! Our waitress was awesome and recommended a few choices, burgers being one of them, so we both got the duke burger. It. Was. Amazing!!! Huge portions and decent price for this economy. As we were checking out we met the actual owners and they were super nice! One of the owners gave us a parting gift for the office as well, which I hope the office can return the gesture soon! 10/10 will definitely be back! read more

The food is ALWAYS consistent and delicious. It is your classic American dinner with bar seating, booths, and tables. The service is always great as well. We have been regulars here for many years and have no plans to change. If you are going during busy hours like Sunday at 9am, expect to wait 15-25min. read more

Was told a 10-15 min wait which is fine, after 12 mins a group of 4 walked in after us and was sat immediately while we just stood by the front door. Horrible service! Not ever gonna eat here again read more

I found this place on Yelp! We were visiting Phoenix for Arizona Craft Beer Week. We arrived and they were extremely busy, we waited about thirty minutes for a table. It's an old unassuming building and it's wood paneling and pictures on the wall inside; I think it's been around for forty years or so. Service was a little slow from the start and coffees were delivered without spoons. I grabbed one from the bidder and our waitress said they were a little behind (totally understand). Once our waitress made contact she was awesome and the service was fantastic. I had the Sierra omelette and it came with toast, biscuit or a fresh made muffin! I went with the blueberry muffin. The muffin arrived hot and steamy and it was served with a butter flavored spread (minus points for this one, old school diners should use real butter). The three of us enjoyed our food and our experience here and we would most definitely return. read more

I drove by Harlow's a million times and finally dropped in for lunch. It has an old school restaurant, diner type vibe to it. We were seated right away and the waitresses were awesome with drink orders on the way quickly. We never had to wait for an Iced tea refill. The open faced roast beef was incredible and just like you'd think from a excellent local diner. I was looking for the turkey dinner but didn't see it. The only thing left to do is head over for a breakfast. I bet it's probably the best in Tempe. read more

Harlow's Café isn't just a diner--it's a home away from home. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with genuine warmth and kindness that's hard to find these days. John and Kim, the wonderful owners, have poured so much love into this place, and you can feel it in everything--from the service to the food to the friendly, nostalgic American diner atmosphere. The food? Consistently amazing. Whether I'm there for a hearty breakfast, a cozy brunch with friends, or just sipping on a perfectly brewed cup of coffee (or maybe something a little stronger when the mood strikes), it always hits the spot. Every dish and drink feels like it was made with care, not just cooked. I love going to Harlow's. It's more than a meal--it's a little moment of joy in my day. If you're ever in Tempe and want great food served with kindness and heart, this is the spot. Truly a local gem that runs on love. read more

What a find! Breakfast was delicious and the vibe is really cool. Highly recommend I ordered the biscuits and gravy. The portion was huge and delicious read more

The inside is based off of old movies which is a really cool theme for me. Old school diner look too. The food was pretty good, I had the Panco which was pancakes eggs and your choice of meat (I had bacon) and it was all good. Big pancakes! The servers all there were nice and very attentive, they all were helping each other pretty much too! The interesting part was that they serve their lunch menu all day, we went in at like 8 am and heard our table next to us enjoying cheeseburgers. So if you don't want breakfast food and did want some lunch items that early, you found the person place. read more

Post quarantine review: 8.21.21 This is our go-to spot. Five stars all day! Support Local AZ!! The first time I came here I tried the Tiffany Omelette! And I was hooked! Just like that.. whammy! Been coming back here ever since.. Practically tried everything on the menu! And it's a LONG & Diverse menu too! Something from everyone, home cooked and made with love! Eggs Maximillian. (+ chorizo) Chill Willis Biscuits & Gravy Three of Clubs French Toast ( recently tried the gringo burrito) is off the menu; and has bacon egg cheese and potato! It's delicious! Everything is delicious! Their Jameson Coffee with Baileys is delish too and a great way to start the workday-- I mean day. ;) Yes they have a full bar! I highly recommend the Bloody Mary! Comes with a "Harlow's Cafe" signature engraved miniature Tabasco bottle. Their chicken fried steak is out of this world! (Lunch \ Dinner portion sizes are huge.) Come hungry, leave happy + the occasional food coma you have been warmed! They are simply the best! Thank you Ladies and all the servers! Big special shout out to Karla and Shannon! She's amazing and so friendly. Everyone that works here in particular is amazing. They even do the local artwork on the walls. I love sitting at the bar, feels like a local home diner back in North Carolina. But anyways- this place gets packed! As it should be! Next to circle K and the tempe feed store. If you're in the area for breakfast or lunch, do yourself a favor and Please stop by! :D Thank you Harlow's Cafe & co! If the workers ever read this review, well.. thank you! What an institution! We love their breakfast. It's a small space and always packed but the staff knows how to take care of their customers.

Our first time here. Flew into Phoenix and heading back home to Tucson. Our shuttle driver recommended and so glad we took him up on it. Great fresh food and exceptional, attentive service. Husband had the corned beef hash served with the best, freshest potatoes we've ever had! I had eggs over medium (perfectly cooked), sausage links and French Toast. Lots of happy employees and customers here on a busy Sunday morning! Will come back whenever possible! Cozy atmosphere too. read more

Harlow's is a MUST TRY! The ambiance here is like a classic "hole in the wall" cafe, and I love it. Food and service are awesome. One of the best and biggest chicken fried steaks I've ever had. I highly recommend this place! read more

We stopped in as a family to eat. The server was not very happy to be there. The service was okay. Only got one refill on our drinks. The prices were high. The eggs were overcooked and the cheese was melted on top, not in the eggs. The pancake was raw in the middle. The chicken fried steak was raw as well. Needed to be cooked. Maybe another 5 minutes. We were not happy with the service or the food that was way overpriced. $60 for three people to eat. Ridiculous and that was with order one shared meal between two. We did order one shared pancake and it tasted like a Krusty pancake mix. One pancake for 8 dollars is crazy. read more

1021 W University Tempe, 85281 Companion and I went for breakfast at Harlow's Cafe early one morning and were surprised to find that it was packed. I've been in many other places for breakfast and they don't usually get so full at opening time, but this was an exception. After perusing the menu, our wait person took our order. We started with cups of steaming hot delicious coffee. Everyone serves coffee, and a lot of it is bitter and poor, but this was really good. In addition, without having to ask for it we also were brought glasses of ice water. Companion ordered a "short stack" of blueberry pancakes. I place it in quotes because their short stack was bigger than many regular stacks that have been served to me. It came with a cruette of maple syrup. To say that these were terrific is an understatement. Loads of big blueberries in a nice matrix of pancake. Companion was not able to finish the plate! I ordered Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast, alias SOS. It has been many years since I last had it and to be honest, this brought back memories of when I was a lot younger. Slightly salty in a nice cream sauce served over slices of toast with hash browns I almost had tears in my eyes. The decoration of the place is very old fashioned with wood paneling on the walls and old time pictures hanging. Looking around at the others eating, revealed lots of people over 40 scarfing down big breakfasts. As soon as someone got up from their table, it was bussed, reset and another person sat down to enjoy a great breakfast. Companion and I will be back again to try other items on the menu. This could easily become one of my favorite places to eat at. Cleanliness was apparent and service was very good. 5 stars for excellent food, good service, and cleanliness. read more

This place, and the people working in it rock! The place is buzzing with customers...and clearly many of them regulars. The biggest standout, though, was kindness. I was by myself, so I sat at the counter. Before coming in though, I had briefly chatted with an old-timer out front. As I was eating he came in and sat down at the counter. Clearly the staff knows him, and they greeted him and treated him with respect. He ordered a big hearty meal. The server, Ashleigh, was friendly, kind and attentive...nice. It didn't seem that she is the only one with the right stuff. Culture is everything, and this place has it. A neighborhood restaurant where good food, large portions, friendly service, and kind younger people are happy to serve. If you're looking for a place to restore your belief in people...and especially younger working people this is the place. I'm humbled by them. And...oh yeah, the food was awesome. Everybody should come here. read more

Hallow's is only about 12 minutes to the airport so it's in a good location to grab a bite before your flight. The service was fast and friendly service, with a good variety to choose from. Our breakfast was a mixed bag. My husband ordered the chip beef. He said it was "OK" and the potatoes were good. I ordered the pancake breakfast. The sausage links were really moist and flavorful and the eggs were good. The pancakes were a bit disappointing; they were pretty dry and we had to use a lot of syrup. Would try the French toast next time. read more

I stopped here on the way to the airport. It was afternoon, but I wanted breakfast. They sell breakfast and lunch. Step in and it's a blast from the past with wood paneling on the walls. The service was great. Our waitress was attentive and helpful with the menu. I got bacon, eggs, pancakes and potatoes. Potatoes were hand cut and good. Bacon was thick and perfectly cooked (hard to find bacon that's not over or undercooked imo). The pancake was hard at the bottom and a little hard to cut. The syrup was watery. The food was alright. The eggs were actually cooked properly. Trying to also order a meal to-go for my wife was rudely brushed off by our server, who had seemed annoyed the entire time, and who disappeared after the check was dropped off. It was busy but my son and I were seated quickly. We were able to have a conversation without having trouble hearing each other but you are definitely close to your neighbors. We will probably return and give it another chance, maybe the server was just having a bad day, but overall our experience wasn't anything spectacular that we are in a hurry to repeat. read more

We were told a 45 minute wait. We've waited an hour they continue to call other groups of people that are either here or not here at all, it's hotter than hell out. The food can't be good enough to wait outside in AZ hell for some breakfast. Who in their right mind put this on TikTok and said anything good about it and are having a bunch of randoms come here to eat. Don't be a follower, be a leader. I came here for the first time ever, it is jam packed the food looks very bland, it's an old style looking building thats been here a very long time with little to no updates at all. There is no time limit for large groups it looks like. So no one will get seated in a timely manner. Plus there is no seating in A/C while you wait so who in gods name wants to wait outside in AZ heat for a bland breakfast. One and done. Things need to change for sure. Also you can't split checks so how the F*ck is a large group supposed to split the bill lol this place is a joke plus they add gratuity automatically lmao what a joke. Also they have no substitutions lmao WTF are you talking about what a sh*t hole. Also the food was hard to cut hard to eat, my jaw got a work out and a half and the place was sweltering up in that Bish it was hot AF in there. Server was MIA the whole time pretty much. Lame AF don't go here. read more
