Wow, did you try their coffee? I can't say much about what the club is like at night, but I have been coming by for my coffee fix lately and really appreciate the menu. Their macau iced coffee and new orleans coffee are delicious. The macau is a little on the sweeter end which was what I was looking for today. It's cash only under $5 but the barista was nice enough to just let me pay up another day. To be clear, its not a cafe, its a pick up and go coffee spot cos its still mostly a club. Harlot runs on the smaller end in terms of club sizes in SF. The place is very narrow, and given how many tables there are, I wouldn't really call it a dance club -- like you literally can't dance except for a small square space in front of the DJ. It's much better as a place to gather friends and drink. The music is overall pretty well-selected. It's not too mainstream, but also not too obscure where you're just questioning what's going on. Originally had 5 stars but dropped down to 1 star after the disrespect the staff had with us. The reviews are true, DO NOT go here during the evening time. Happy Hour is much better because the bouncer in the picture below is not present. Story: So my friend tells me their coworker is celebrating a birthday party here. I think, "great!" I come here for Happy Hour on Fridays and it will be a great time once again. It's about to be 1:00am and we're patiently waiting in line to get in. Harlot tells us there's a cover to get in but since a friend is having a birthday here and they have a table, we shouldn't have to pay. The bouncer tells us if the owner of the table comes out to collect us we can come in. After waiting for a while we just ask the bouncer if he can just check the table list for our names so that we don't have to wait for the friend. This is when the bouncer flips 180. He tells we not allowed in anymore and doesn't want to let us in. We think like you just promised us something else. He tells us we're being annoying and tells us to get out of the line. My friend gets real upset and asks why he changed it all up all of a sudden. This is when the bouncer picks up the rope dividers and starts pushing them towards us so that we move out of the line. We essentially don't move but the bouncer keeps edging closer with the ropes and it feels like he's trying to intimidate us with his height. Since we don't move bouncer puts his hands up to get us to move and makes contact with my friend. My friend flips out and doesn't understand what constitutes that kind of behavior from a bouncer. Look I understand that a bouncer's job is difficult having to deal with drunk people but I believe it's common courtesy to know not to put your hands on a customer. I'll take that your mad and frustrated any day but the fact that you have to resort to pushing an individual to get what you want is not ok. I can easily say that Harlot is my favorite club in all of SF. I love classy places, and if you are looking for that, Harlot is the spot to go. The staff is sweet and caring, and if you get to know them, they will treat you like a king/Queen from walking in until leaving! The drinks are great, if anything, they are too strong sometimes haha, I am not complaining tho. Their table pricing is pretty fair and not too much like other places in the city. You pay less for more value, guaranteed. Lastly, I think any club is not only determined by staff/Djs/drinks, but by the people who go there. Harlot beats all of the other places with the quality of the people who come there. Everyone is well dressed, elegant, great conversationalist, and I don't think I have ever seen a fight or even an argument there. That tells a lot about how good the place is managed and kept. They even have a smoking area! Some of my friends smoke, and I still feel bad every time we go to a random place and they have to leave and wait back in line to get if they wanted to vape or smoke. I just took a sneak-peak at Harlot, and all I have to say is wow, wow, wow. Gorgeously provocative - and evocative - interior. I'm talking gigantic paintings covering the walls, sexy tables whose surfaces are giant photos in themselves, a smoking section a la Rye, plenty of seating to cozy up on while checking out the beautiful people. And that's not even mentioning the upstairs lounge and bar, surely to be a coveted pole position amongst all kinds of hipsters and scenesters. The name Harlot in itself conjures up a playful yet sexy image, and they've done a really super job in capturing that feeling and atmosphere. Sounds likes they'll have a choice wine list as well, and being connected to Salt House is just another bonus. Look for me there at happy hour coursing into the night. read more

In a very short time period we've seen the launch of a number of hot new venues (Harlot, Ambassador, Vessel). And as an avid partaker in drink and dance, I'm pretty happy about that. Of this new crop of hotspots, the gold medal goes to Harlot. Sure it's super, duper new so that has something to do with my excitement, but the decor is amazing. The gargantuan steel beams have "Carnegie" stamped on them (pointed out to me by Martel the proprietor, they are authentic). There is an upstairs balcony with a dedicated bar and seating, great for crowd scanning and/or private partying. Downstairs are several booths and a good sized dance floor, but this is no mega club... think intimate. Vodka sodas were $7, about the city norm and a bargain in the context of the great crowd. The staff was excellent, one of the security guys watching the upstairs was more than happy to chat about the venue and it's launch - really nice guy. My only complaint? The DJ - Dude why must you play GnR mashups at midnight? I know the ladies love it, ugh. Damn them. read more

Harlot is the worst club in SF. The bouncers wouldn't let my friend and I in because we were male. Later my friend on guest list couldn't get us in because you can't have male +1's. Finally got in on guestlist for another friend's table service. Still however the sincere lack of respect made it so unpleasant. I will never go back again. Harlot, if you want people to spend their money show people a little more respect! Total waste of time. Next time start a club in LA of you want to act elitist. Also to add. I know that there have been allegations of discrimination at this club. Just to add to the list. My friend and I were, respectively, African and Asian American. I feel that any club that discriminates, whether based on gender (male) or based on race, should not be frequented. While I am unaware of Harlot's internal policies, I have to say that tonight, an African American man and an Asian man were turned away multiple times by very rude bouncers. read more

No idea what this place is like as a nightclub - please check other reviews if that's what you're looking for! As a happy hour spot, they have some really solid deals for the neighborhood - and it goes until NINE. The downside is that a lot of these deals are on kind of "meh" product - their draft selections and $5 shots are just not great stuff. I'd happily do a $5 shot of well tequila, if they offered it, for example...but they don't. But at least they still got the deals on well drinks! So I'll just take that tequila shot in some OJ and grenadine, please :D. I love the decor, too; very inventive. The super weird thing about this place was the crowd. It was very chill and relaxed, but everyone was smushed up against the bar with their backpacks left at their tables. Uh...guys? This is a major city with a pretty big theft problem; you might not wanna do that. Especially considering like 99% of the people were yuppies, so there were probably shiney macbooks in most of them. I also had to push through a ton of people to get anywhere - to the bar, to the seating, to the door. It felt like everything I did interrupted about 4 conversations because people weren't aware of their surroundings. Harlot rhymes with scarlet, and the only mark outside distinguishing Harlot's presence on Minna Street is a single, scarlet letter H. Clever, clever! The first time I came to Harlot, I was pretty impressed by the ambiance and space. The worshipped/condemned dichotomy of the whore is done tastefully, with that huge painting of a naked chick dripping in blood (nice.) and tables matted with photographs of models, all sultry and seductive-looking. I quickly realized, though, that because of its swank nature, Harlot tends to be the kind of place where people like to sit and stare at each other in their nice clothes and sparkly hair; not the kind of place conducive to a kick-back happy hour or even a wild night out on the town with the girls (dancing is limited and very NON-dropitlikeitshot). In other words, meh... most of the time I can go someplace better. However, for Halloween this year, my girls and I were scouring about to find a venue in the city hosting a nice, FREE party. Harlot was the only place where we were able to find one, so we signed ourselves up on the guestlist. Though initially I was a wee bit disappointed at the choice (I had wanted to stay away from the pretentiousness of the downtown danceclub and actually have some fun this Halloween), it turned out to be quite a nice time at Harlot. Per our confirmation email's instructions, we arrived early and were able to enjoy the club before it got too crowded. It wasn't hard to get a drink, and the dancefloor was poppin' with good, dancey music (they normally only play loungey or house stuff). We left and moved onto the Castro when it began to get packed (and when my poor friend who arrived just 20 minutes after us called me from the line outside saying she didn't think she'd ever get in). But despite Harlot's minimal departure from its VIP-vibe this Halloween, I really appreciated the free event, seeing as how most other places downtown were charging 30 bucks and up (oh heeeyell no!). read more

This place is small..... there are maybe 3 or 4 bottle service tables, the private bar upstairs, and then a small dance floor near the dj booth. The bouncers at the front are pretty friendly and no cover !!! The go - go dancers/ burlesque dancers are really interesting. They don't really dance or jump around like all the other dancers seem to. They move around very slowly and suggestively... if that's all it took to be a dancer I could totally be one too !! The crowd here is also diverse, but this club definitely has more of an intimate vibe. This would not be the place to pick someone up...which is a plus one for me. I hate places where all the guys are trying to get at girls, or where girls are just dressed up to show off their best "assets". No douchebags here either! Ok, came here for Halloween cuz it was free to get in....definately a white bar, thought it might have just been that first time I was here, nope, even with costumes on, I could see everyone but my friends and I were white. But then I get shoved out of the way of the VIP section - there weren't velvet ropes when I got there, but suddenly I'm in your space? Then you drop shit on my feet and it's my fault? Where do you think you are, the New York subway? Oh right when I did finally order... I ordered a Hefeweizen and got a Sam Adams instead (though I won't dock you points here because it was an honest mistake and you fixed it ...) The DJ has ADD ..... the music wasn't bad, but no song lasted more then 30 seconds and he did consistantly switch it out right before the chorus of every song worth singing / dancing to. My party people and I stood there rolling our eyes and getting increasingly pissed off. Not cool. Maybe it was an evening of bad luck ... that's what I'd like to believe. When I am in the Bay Area I always like to check out different Nightlife for the 21+ crowd. My local friends decided to sign us up for the guest-list which was free for women before 10:30 pm. Upon arriving, there were no lines but check in to the guest list was easy and had no problem getting in. The drinks were pretty strong and the dj was spinning 90's-current hip hop. Don't get me wrong i loved the drinks and the music. I would recommend this to start your night off if you decide to club/bar hop in downtown SF. However, it was just a weird and different vibe for me. Maybe its just the people they promote to go there is just....i dont know how to describe it. Maybe just not really my idea of "fun". I regret not going to opening night on Wednesday: April 18, 2007. I was on the guest list, but had to attend another function so I was a bit disappointed. Since I know one of the owners/designer/architect of Harlot and his wife, I was able to get into the special guest list any day I wanted. Friday night is when my friends and I decided to go. We arrived a little before 9p. The space is nice. Dark, yet sophisticated and very classy. Beautiful interior design with huge paintings on the walls. I especially liked the tables with portraits of women. 2 floors of fun, a smoking room and two bars. Sexy bartenders and a good mix of crowd. Dance floor and great music -- techno earlier in the night mixed with 90's pop hit including Snoop Dog and Warren G. The place was packed after 11pm, but my friends and I settled upstairs in the corner booth right across the bathroom. This place is cozy and perfect for people watching. Check out the cool bathroom downstairs with the one-way mirror. One of my friends and I were making our way outside to smoke when she realized that she needed a lighter... Friend: "Do you have a lighter?" Random Guy: "No, but you can check the smoking lounge." Celeste: "Hey, that's... what's his name?" Friend: "I don't know..." The Random Guy turned out to be...former Mayor Willie Brown. I can't believe that my friend just asked him for a lighter. It was awesome! Left the bar a little before 1am and people were still trying to get in. It was truly a wonderful night and I'm really glad that I was able to check it out. I felt a bit like I was in the old boys club coming in here and seeing the antler chandeliers and black walls, but I thought the space overall was quite nice. I was here for the launch party off Sake2me a super yummy drink (you know the lightly fruity kind where you can have about 8 before you notice you're completely drunk because it's just so fruity and delicious), so I am sure that helped my perception of the place. I remember plenty of places to be able to sit and carry a conversation, and being able to retreat to the balcony (more plush seating up there) to escape the loud crowd. I came here last weekend and got the feeling that everyone was in their upper 20's and above, so I definitely was the youngest person there. My first night back in the nightlife and I'm so glad I went to Harlot!!! One of my girls were celebrating her birthday with bottle service and from the door to the upgrade, it was such a fun scene to be in. We were initially greeted by Chris at the front door, he was kind and professional, made sure we'd live like it was all our birthdays that night! He took us straight upstairs where our first table was at, however since something opened up downstairs, Chris had upgraded us! Although there are tons of negative reviews about this place, I feel that it is a pretty legit club that reminds me of clubs in Hong Kong. Sure its pretentious, expensive, and the bald doorman can be a dick, but he's just doing his job. If anything he's trying to keep the scum suckers out of the club and let more females in. Harlot is one of my favorite places to go out in SF. Im from the LA area, so the clubby vibe is something I crave. Harlot gives me that, albeit in a tiny portion. The word tiny definitely comes in when describing this club. It is VERY small (but I guess thats quite typical for san fran). I think they have only 2 tables that you can reserve for bottle service. My friends sometimes reserve these for their company outings- lots of fun. Since it is so small, the dance floor gets very crowded and very hot. But it is a lot of fun! Every time Ive been there there has been some type of fun dj spinning EDM. Drinks are expensive so be sure to pregame! read more

I dont know why I'm just reviewing this, since I've been coming to this place for years now and visit it at bare minimum twice a month. After Scott left infusion, I will never go there again, as the crowd quality went sharply down. I'm curious to try Audio, but to my knowledge Harlot is pretty much the only club in SF that filters out bridges and tunnels well. I pulled out my cell phone to show the bouncer it was 10:50 PM and the bouncer said "I still dont care. $40 or get out of line!" Reasons to never support to this establishment: 1. I liked that this place had folks who were mostly over 25 and the guy:girl ratio is pretty even. So pretty mellow, did not feel like a fight was going to break out any minute. Might be a result of the screening that they do at the entrance. I saw them turn away quite a few folks at the door. Another advantage is that they don't charge cover. It is pretty cozy in here but the dance floor could be bigger. The smoking room bugged me since the smoke leaks out. Another thing I did not like is the music. Maybe Harlot has lost some fans but when we went here on a Friday night there was no line (we got there early) but I had a great time. So much for my "I don't go clubbing anymore" mantra. I liked that there is rock star parking in a non sketchy neighborhood. I liked that the layout wasn't a maze and it was easy to locate the bathrooms and coat check. What I didn't like was that the go-go dancers in dominatrix outfits looked absolutely bored out of their skull and didn't even try to look like they were having a good time dancing on the mini stages on the side of the club. What a downer! The DJs were playing some deep house and I wish I could have gotten into the music more but they finally managed to play some hip hop so we could dance a little bit. Came here for happy hour on a Friday night and it was pretty packed. The place has plenty of seating and the drinks were pretty cheap during HH. Drinks were pretty legit. They also served bar snacks during HH. There was pita bread and several types of dip as well. People started clearing out after 7pm and the place was nearly empty except for us right around 8pm. The only small problem is this place is an alley way on Minna and it's not easy to get there with all the construction going on right now. read more

I was at this place for a private party so I can't comment on the crowed on a normal night, but the atmosphere was very condusive to lounging, dancing, drinking, and people watching. The place is dark, but as I looked around the artwork on the walls was nice and sexy, definately had that French feel, the couches were spaced out nicely and decent room to sit.
