I came to Casanova over the weekend and one of my friends accidentally left their glasses behind. I came back tonight on the 24th at 7:56 PM to help them out because they live all the way in Manteca. It is not easy for them to come back and they even told me the bar never answers the phone. When I got here tonight I asked the bartender if any glasses were turned in. He said he would check the lost and found after he served the drink he was making. I waited while he finished the drink, which took longer than it should have because he kept stopping to socialize with people at the bar. After waiting, three people walked in behind me and he went straight to them and asked what they wanted. I reminded him about the lost glasses and he told me he was helping them first because they were paying customers. That did not sit right with me because the whole reason my friend left the glasses here is because they were paying customers too. It felt like he brushed my request off and now I am worried that because I spoke up, he is going to throw the glasses away or claim they never found them, even though we know for a fact we left them on the table. And to top it off, after I spoke up about how I was here first and how it was wrong to serve them before helping me, the bartender actually kicked me out. If you read some of the reviews this seems to be a common theme at this bar. If you forget your card here they will definitely try to spend it. So cancel your card if you leave it here. Great mission bar which has been around well over 25 years. Great staff with fairly priced drinks even fresh squeezed grapefruit. Nice back area with ample seating excellent for groups or a date . Often local sports is played on a large tv . When that's not happening some good tunes can be heard. Nice local following and decor . One of the better bars in the mission in my opinion. read more

Went to this bar with my friends and the ambiance is great and chill. We waited for the bartenders to take our orders & make our drinks. While waiting, they've chatted with the other patrons while serving them drinks, took shots with the other bartenders and bar-backs (that was about 10mins). My friends were vibing so that was okay. After managing to get his (thin, tall, bald white man's) attention, he finally took my order and I ordered a simple drink, took less than a minute to prepare. Then my friends wanted drinks too and I noticed they were having a rough time getting the bartender's attention; they're hard tunnel visioning in one part of the bar. So I helped both of them order, in which, in the case of my second friend (three orders in total), the bartender suddenly snapped. "I'M GONNA GET TO EVERYONE IN THE BAR OKAY?? IT'S NOT JUST YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS." Like the tone was very whiny, like we were inconveniencing him by waiting 10 minutes prior and finally taking that small opportunity to order THREE (3) simple drinks (Paloma, Margarita, Madras). As someone who's been in a high stress customer service job as well, I can empathize, but you don't vent to the customer. And it's certainly RUDE to make them feel bad for giving you business. If you can't handle a high stress & busy job, with a bunch of people wanting you to take their orders, at least be professional about it; It's a shame to be made to feel like an inconvenience for simply giving the bar business. read more

Love this spot, good vibes, service and strong drinks. Definitely has a hipster vibe. I only wish they had a dance floor. The music can be fun so sometimes I feel like dancing but there's no designated area for that. I always make sure to come before 10pm because I'm pretty sure that's when they start charging at the door. I could be wrong tho...I usually get their margaritas. They're popular for their margs and there's a reason, it's huge and pretty strong. I'm usually buzzed off of 1. This spot can be good for groups but it's best to go early and start here rather than go later on with a group. Overall, worth it to check out. read more

Kelly's service was completely not okay. When we asked her to make vodka sodas, she told us she was "only doing shots." So, we adjusted and asked for a club soda and a vodka shot instead. After that, we asked for beers, and that's when she flat-out refused to serve us, even though she was selling beers to my male friends at the end of the bar. The whole interaction felt targeted and rude. To make things worse, when we asked for lime juice earlier, she didn't bring it. Instead, she seemed dismissive and unhelpful the entire time. By the end, she said, "Beggars can't be choosers," which was just unnecessary and insulting. Then she capped it off with a sarcastic, "Merry Christmas." And something else I don't even want to mention. This was one of the most frustrating and uncomfortable experiences I've ever had. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, but I will give them an extra star because it is a pretty venue. EDIT: To the owner - I'm a SF native. I've been coming to this bar since I've turned 21. I was not planning on stopping by Casanova on Saturday night after dinner in Mission, but so glad we stumbled upon this bar! It had a small cozy speakeasy vibe, and was pretty crowded with great energy. We got lucky to grab a table while a previous group was leaving, although most groups were standing around the bar. Idk the name of the bouncer last night, but he crossed a line with me. Me and my friends were enjoying a night out but some of them forgot their IDs so they couldn't come in, which was perfectly understandable so we were gonna go try to find someplace else. One of my friends asked the bouncer if he had any suggestions, and the bartender said we should go to the Castro because "they let everyone in and you're white so you'll have it easy." That bothered me so much for multiple reasons. First, I am in the Castro frequently and that is 100% not true; they absolutely ID and kick people out for not having them and they take that seriously, especially on busy Friday nights. So I can tell from firsthand experience as a frequent visitor to the Castro what he's saying is just not true and would be wasting me and my friends time. Secondly, his comment about the white guy was extremely offensive. Singling him out in front of all of us, a DIVERSE MULTICULTURAL group of friends and directly saying he'll for sure get in for free and have an easy time because he's white... the racist implications are right there. My friends and I are happy to go back to this bar but not on nights where whoever this bouncer is is at the door. The comment about the Castro just letting anyone in was dumb, but bringing race NEEDLESSLY into the conversation was extremely offensive and upsetting and disturbing because none of us said anything about race, he voluntarily took the conversation in that direction. I hope management takes this seriously, regardless of the false information regarding how bars and clubs in the Castro work, I at least hope management takes this racism seriously. Good vibes at the Casanova Lounge! This neighborhood bar epitomizes the Mission's current incarnation. The one-of-a-kind vintage pendant lights, combined with the kitschy (yet cohesive) decor, make this place a joy to look at. Drinks are reasonably priced, especially for San Francisco! I'd give this place 4.5 stars if I could, but the reason I don't think it's the perfect bar is because the cocktails aren't all that great. My credit card was stolen here last night. My wife went out with some friends and forgot to close her tab for 2 drinks, which is annoying and it's more than reasonable to charge a good tip on top. But this morning I noticed 3 charges to my card, very clearly by an amateur trying to get some free stuff at Walgreens in Berkeley. Resolved this with the credit card company, but make sure to close your tabs folks cause who knows where that card is gonna go. read more

This place is pretty dope. A friend of ours took us here to have a bit of night out drinks. I like the whole super trendy red light and dim setting. We even got to sit at the stage looking area with the curtains. Properly tuned sound system was pumping out strings oriented music that was hard core, but suprisingly pleasant to the ear. The staff was really nice. From the bouncer to the bar tender was definitely something of a textbook nice people thing. My husband, bestie and I had a great time getting ourselves drunk and conversing about the dumbest things possible. Thank you cassanova for providing a dope venue for the evening. I got my change practically thrown in my face and go told quote "get the fuck out of my face" by the male bartender (long hair tattoos on both arms) all because I told him to keep the change as I paid cash and I guess the change amount wasn't good enough for him as a tip. I was busy grabbing my drinks and trying to get them to my group so I couldn't grab more cash in the moment. If he was more nice, I would have gone back to give him more cash. Go to Blondies bar across the street, staff is much nicer, drinks are better, and the ambiance is more inviting. The bar tenders said they have cc tv camera but I don't know if they will do any thing about it, and find the person who stole my id and cards. I wish I could give zero stars. This is truly the worst bar I've ever been too. The bartenders are extremely angry. When I go to bars it's to have a great moment with friends and enjoy some drinks - this bar ruins the moment with its rude bartenders. I was so embarrassed after letting one of the bartenders know someone behind me wanted to order a drink. The only reason I told him was because I was sitting by the counter and unfortunately I was blocking the gentleman from being able to make his order. I had no idea how offensive this was to the bartender. The bartender responded to me as if I was an idiot and I was mortified. I don't think bartending is the best career choice for him and probably everyone else who was bartending. They need to reevaluate their life goals and figure out if this is where they see themselves in the next few years. read more

I love how dark (and red) it is in here. I opted not to drink, but the atmosphere was lovely. We literally just had bratwurst, walked over for pizza, and while we were waiting for our pizza order, some of my cousins had drinks here. The bartender came to our table and asked for my ID (I think that's great that they actually check). And although all my cousins already ordered their drinks, she asked if she could get me anything. There's plenty of booths, tables, seats at the bar, and some couch seating arrangements. I came here after a concert (not a local) with my close friends. I asked the bar tender for a drink and a food recommendation - to which she replied with the worst attitude I've ever dealt with - so rude for what, its not hard to be kind? Came across this place on a fluke and I'm glad I did. First thing that caught my eyes were the beautiful divine goddesses on the walls in their natural form. The decor was funky but stylish. Drinks were good too, I wish I caught our bartenders name but boy did he have a heavy hand and did not disappoint. Outdoor seating is available as well with cute outdoor lights. You have to be fully vaccinated to sit inside the bar and show proof, non vaccinated people are able to come in and order only but must sit outside so heads up. Really liked this bar! There is definitely a groovy kind of good vibe in this dark, slightly dank place, and frankly this may be the only bar on the block targeted to my demographic - aging baby boomer on the cusp of Gen-W with memories of lounge lizards drinking daiquiris with lonely housewives looking to be appreciated before the dawn of feminism. Ah yes, with the grape cluster light fixtures and the naked ladies on velvet, this feels like home to me. I think I spent most of my time there trying to decide if the lounging nymphet in the painting in the back was Pamela Tiffin, Sharon Tate, or Jane Fonda in "Barbarella". The DJ the afternoon Jamie W. and I were there was rad. He played a record of a Mexican mariachi band playing a particularly toe-tapping version of "The Age of Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In", while they were showing "Harold and Maude" on the wall. We didn't sit on one of the several naugahyde couches in the back, but they did look inviting in a hallucinogenic orgy kind of a way. The drinks are a buck off during happy hour, so if you're in a particularly psychedelic mood in a hazy shade of winter, I say check out Casanova for the good-time ambiance. Peace out, man. I was so stoked, last night, a classmate from Junior high school called me up, said he was going to take me bar hopping in the Mission! The bar was pretty crowded, but we were lucky to find a table. Did not have much time to look around, but I did enjoy a Pint of PBR for $2.50. I wasn't too crazy about the loud music, but I loved the lighting inside. The crowd seemed clique, but I didn't mind it. There were a lot of big groups of friends hanging out, then couples having a great time, but there were also guys sitting at tables/couches who were clearly by themselves... Would go here again sometime, but would not be my first bar stop when I'm in the Mission :-)! read more
