The bartender was dismissive from the start, which I tried to overlook, but things escalated when I was absent-mindedly fidgeting with a toothpick on the counter. Instead of a simple "hey, please don't do that," I got an abrasive "why the F*** would you scratch the bartop?" followed by actual swearing at me. I've never been spoken to like that in a bar before, especially over something so minor. It completely ruined the vibe for the night. The fat bartender with the greasy black hair and the girl with the long hair that were working 04/21 are incredibly rude. My husband and our friends stopped in while walking to oracle park to use the restroom. My husband asked the woman bartender if we could use the bathroom and she said "we don't want you just coming in here using the f*cking bathroom without buying a drink", understandable, but no need to use that language and we were planning on getting some drinks anyways. After that our friend asked for a Michelob and the fat guy said "we don't f*cking have that" and then walked away and came back asking him "what the f*ck do you want?" After that my girl friend asked the bartender for a shooter to which he replied "what the f*ck is that?" He was incredibly rude and dismissive surprised he still works there especially when it looks like he's consistently rude to customers. If you can get there early enough, there is one booth-style seating upstairs that you can grab with your friends. Drinks were really good, mostly tequila & mezcal focused (obviously lol). Elcer was the absolute best bartender I've had in the city in I don't know how long.,, He screamed "best bar ever" I don't know how many times to hype the crowd. How amazing. It got everyone in great spirits, ordering more liquor and shots and just simply having fun. I parked right out front on a Sunday afternoon for a little get together. I was first to arrive and this man helped me to feel comfortable, welcome and fix me a shot (or 2) and really have fun. What a gem this guy Elcer is. Attended a private corporate event held here on a weekday during happy hours. Incredibly friendly staff, great area to sit down and to chat in the front. There wasn't really clear/visible signage out in front of the store, so I almost missed it initially. Drinks were good, wide variety of cocktails available, and prices were reasonable. This leads me to believe that your experience will likely be unique to you and you're either going to hate Tequila Mockingbird or love it. Fortunately for me, I loved it! I hesitantly decided to come check out Tequila Mockingbird despite seeing so many 1 Star reviews because despite being a Yelper, I know that Yelp reviews aren't always too reliable (mine are though, so you can rely on mine lol). I'm glad that I decided to explore my curiosity because I had a great experience. I came here after work and sat at the bar because I typically enjoy interacting with bartenders and you usually get faster service that way. During my visit, I was able to try the Evil Kenevil, Tequila Mockingbird, and the Eighty Sixed. The good news is that all of the drinks were absolutely delectable, the bad news is that I can't tell you which one I enjoyed more. In addition to great drinks, the bartender, whose name has since slipped my mind, was phenomenal. She was conversational, kind, genuine, and I never felt forgotten (I apologize in advance if I incorrectly assumed your preferred pronoun). The décor is quaint and the ambience is relaxed and refreshing. I can't speak for how things are in the later evenings, but I definitely recommend Tequila Mockingbird for late afternoon happy hours. Looking for a casual place to grab some drinks in the Financial District? Tequila Mockingbird is your place to go! It's pretty small inside, but the interior is decorated beautifully with a huge mirror placed in the middle of the bar. It looks like most of the seating is at the bar on the first floor (didn't go up to the upper floor), but the bartender we had was nice and welcoming! She answered all the questions we had patiently and had our drinks out really quickly. We walked over here around 7:30pm on a Wednesday and it was pretty empty (I love that!). Being in a pandemic, packed bars don't make me feel the most comfortable. Among the group, we ordered Hennessy shots and their tequila cocktails. I ordered the Purple Rain for $12, which is the average price for a cocktail. It had blanco, lemon, elderflower, and hibiscus syrup. Might be biased since we came here after a Happy Hour from Uno Dos Tacos up the street, but felt like the cocktails were pretty STRONG. I was definitely feeling it after some time had passed! Our best friends rented out this place on a Saturday night for an event per our recommendation. We ordered 2 cocktails from the only bartender after waiting for 20 mins. Received our drinks, took a sip out of mine, and I noticed a fly in it. As I examined further I saw 4 more flies in my glass. ARE YOU KIDDING ME, DISGUSTING. What makes this story even better is that when I showed the bartender (named Angel) he just quickly took my drink (without saying anything) and went to make a new one. When I asked for some type of compensation, he said "I already remade your drink. I can't give out free drinks. I already gave your friends that rented the place free drinks." What the hell does that have to do with the flies in my drink. Didn't you just say you can't give out free drinks, but also said you gave my friends free drinks in the same sentence? Make it make sense. I wasn't asking for free drinks, just to be compensated for the one that had flies in it (which we still paid for btw). I even showed him the video of the flies and told him I was going to put it on Yelp - he nodded as if he could care less. Do yourself a favor and DON'T go here. There are tons of nicer, cleaner bars in the city with amazing service that deserve your hard earned money rather than this pathetic excuse of a bar. I have been coming to this bar for 3+ years,a regular and new bartender a Hispanic lady, who i have only seen 4 time at the most between a 5 month span. Refused to serve me because I dont tip in cash. I waited for 30+ minutes for drink. Till my friend ask what's going on why haven't you served him. She explained loudly in front of customers. I only serve people who tip in cash, so I'm not serving him. I know all the bart tenders and tip all the time. But the random days I have seen her she has either taking long to serve me or walk away before I can finish ordering. I always tip at all of this owners establishments. Including natoma cabana, and newly named yerba Buena bar. I have known Racheal, nick, mich, Carlos, Charles, gabe for more than 3 + years. And appreciate everything they do, but this lady was very rude announcing this in Public, not understanding i have only seen her a few time ls and tip with my card. Soon as you walk in this place you can tell it's a little more gussied up than normal, and it looks like they are aiming for the corpo crowd / event space vibe. Menu is simple, tequila and mezcal focused, but the bartender made a negroni that I'd say tells me they can go off the regular with ease. Space is fairly open, lots of standing room but there's a nice little cove upstairs with some instragammable signage that we decided to encompass since I was with friends. Bartenders were lively, but fun, there were a bunch of regulars and it was loud af for just there being like 6 people but it's a tequila bar, so obviously expect people in that quila when you there right? First time! And it won't be the last visit. Ambience 10/10. Has just enough of a bar feel without being too overly divey. I love the play on words with the business name, the unique purple themed wall decor, and huge gothic type lights hanging around. At the front left when you get in the door, there's a nice wrap around leather couch to chill with friends on. Little purple cubes can be used as side tables or hard square seats, whichever you prefer. Very fun vibes all around. Great for grabbing a quick drink or two before heading out to whatever. The bartenders are awesome, I didn't have to wait to long for my drink. Granted, someone else got it for me but it didn't seem like much time had passed before I had a glass in hand! Don't know the name, but it's the bartenders favorite. Barely any alcohol, very sweet with a hint of lemon and honey is the best way I can describe it. Two yummy cherries were the perfect finish. I'll come back again for sure. And hopefully have a better idea of what I want to drink! read more

Shitty bar Bartenders name is Angel - he was high on something. A group of 5 of us walked in, he checked our IDs we sat down and ordered 4 drinks and gave him our card to hold. He got only 2 drinks correct, when we told him he gave us another wrong drink and then another. We chopped it up as he was not on it this day. What irked us is when we were asking for our check he claimed to have lost our card and not take responsibility for it. He was giving out free drinks to his friends none of them paid - how do we know, we'll we asked them hey did he accidentally give you our card they said no, our drinks are free we know him. He refused to take responsibility for losing the card, and blamed us for the loss. I wouldn't go here unless you want shit drinks and to be stolen from. read more

I had a great experience with Tequila Mockingbird as an event venue. From initially working with Eric with my concept, he was responsive, helpful, and really easy to work with. The bar staff was great, Hector was the BEST, and Aggie was really amazing as well!! I had a 1920's theme event at the venue. The venue layout, decor, and lighting fixtures are already very beautiful, but definitely set the stage to the exact vibe I was seeking. The cocktails are amazing here, and my guests commented on what a great choice Mockingbird was. I was able to use my theme for the bar's existing menu and customize it. Hector and Aggie even dressed for the occasion on their own and looked fabulous (I totally appreciated them going with the theme, and helping reduce anachronisms!). Also, can I just say how much I loved the sound system? They played my Spotify playlist, and the sound was crisp, with the bass and volume just right (loud...just how I like it!!!) Peter L and I were actually trying to go to another bar in the area, but they were closed. Peter suggested Tequila Mockingbird since I've never been here. We stopped by on Tuesday, May 2nd around 6pm. It was very chill, so we easily grabbed two seats at the bar. *TEQUILA MOCKINGBIRD: Blanco Tequila, Curacao, Grapefruit, Lime ($12) *OLD HOMEY: Mezcal, Amari, Italian Vermouth ($12) *CARTER BEATS THE DEVIL: Reposado Tequila, lime, agave, chilli ($12) *Allagash: White ($7) I started with their namesake drink. It was light and refreshing. I wasn't actually in the mood for liquor, so this was a perfect starter drink. I transitioned to beer afterwards and got the allagash. Peter seemed to enjoy his two drinks. Later on, we bumped into two people we knew and had a round of shots. Not sure what we got (I think it was some kind of mezcal?), but it was a fun shot. Nice bar if you want a laid back atmosphere. I was actually looking for a place to watch a game, so we only stayed a little over an hour as I wanted to go to a place with TVs. If you're looking for a chill bar with a good selection of agave spirits, Tequila Mockingbird will fit the bill. read more

3.5 stars. Scrolling through Yelp reviews, I realize I've been missing out on the best part about Tequila Mockingbird... hosting private events here! As an event planner, I'm always looking for new venues, and others often ask me for recommendations. I'll have to keep that in mind. It took me awhile to come to Tequila Mockingbird. My Toastmasters group always comes here after our meetings on Tuesdays. It's bittersweet because the bar has a cool name, but it replaced our usual spot, Dada Bar. I love that it's a little swankier vs. divey. By 9:00 PM I'm usually in the mood for a beer, not a cocktail. I'll have to visit earlier in the day (maybe they have a happy hour) and try one of their delicious-sounding tequila cocktails. There's a private loft upstairs that's blinding with red light. I prefer sitting at the bar or on the couches by the front door. Overall, Tequila Mockingbird hasn't stood out for me, but it's still a solid good bar. I don't dread coming here Tuesday nights, so that's a good sign. I hope it'll manage to find a way to fill the hole in my heart left from Dada Bar, which hasn't moved too far away. $2k drink minimum for a private party was not too bad of a deal. One thing to note though is the professionalism of the staff. The bartender was nice, accommodating, and really did a great work all night. However, the bouncer was rude to one of my friends and for this, it didn't really sit well with me. She kindly asked if she could close the door because it was cold. He said no that he wouldn't because he was frustrated that people in our party were not following policy by bringing in bottles of alcohol inside the bar. I totally understand the frustration that comes along by having this role. This is a role that enforces rules that continue to be broken by people. However, it doesn't justify why he would not close the door for a member of our party who politely asked him and thus scapegoating a friend of mine. read more

My cousin rented the bar out for her birthday last night and let me tell you how AWFUL the service was from the bartender from the very beginning People waited 30+ mins for their drinks. One of the female bartenders was sweet but the other one named Bridget was so nasty. Constantly telling our DJ to turn the music down and actively ignoring the dozens of people trying to get drinks. I understood they were busy, but we would ask politely as they completely ignored us in order to not serve us anymore drinks. She yelled and got aggressive a few times and eventually ended the event by 1:30. She did last call at 1:05.. WTF? I can see that other reviews here refer to her so I hope management or the owners do something about it. We even have video footage of her.
