Passed by Tupelo while strolling around North Beach on a thursday night. They had live music playing, so I had to check it out. Crowd was good lively but not too packed. The place offers a good variety of food options and a solid selection of beers and cocktails. There's plenty of seating : bar stools, regular tables, and a few high-tops. The band that night was superb. They played lots of classics, and one of my favorites was "Valerie." I got a cranberry vodka, a bit watered down for my taste, but overall not a big deal. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something fun and easygoing to do in the area. read more

The events and shows here are spectacular. The Monday jam sessions bring out amazing local talent for a wonderful night of music and dancing; and anytime "The Magic School Busk" performs is always a treat and shouldn't be missed. My friends and I were simply sitting and talking among ourselves, not bothering anyone, yet the staff approached us and accused us of something we didn't do. My friends and I have come here at least every other Thursday with no issue, until last night, Wednesday, when we had a terrible interaction with the female bartender wearing a knife necklace there. Look, I get that your job is stressful, and I understand it can be frustrating when people ask you what kind of drink to get. But it was a Wednesday, we are one of maybe 8 people at the bar, and came in sober, quiet and nice. You immediately addressed us with aggression and clear hate, without so much as 1 minute of interaction. I asked if they had a beer-- and the bartender immediately was rude, condescending and snippy, saying they didn't have the one I asked for. I wanted to be easy and just asked for whatever light beer they had. When the bartender got to my friend, my friend just asked for "something with Malibu", which, on an uncrowded Wednesday night, is not something I think is a crazy absurd think to ask a bartender for. Bartender was so condescending, and rude to her about it. Clearly did not want to make any drink that involved more than cracking open a beer. And yes, ms bartender, we know you think we are stupid, and we know you're clearly the much more educated one in alcohol! Don't worry, your plan worked and we will not be coming back. read more

Used to visit Tupelo all the time for live music and good drinks. However, recently a bouncer told me to "go die in a car fire" when I decided to walk away instead of paying a cover for what was an empty bar at the time. Went there last night with two friends. It was crowded on a Saturday evening at 10 pm but really fun. Live music with singers and instrument players playing familiar Southern hits. Good place to dance and let loose. Large bar area. I recommend this place as a stop late in the night. Easy to meet new people. Would have to check back how it is earlier in the day. read more

This is not a place I would ever go to again or recommend anyone visiting. As soon as we get in, the whole bar is completely full, hot, and catered to a certain demographic. (If you're poc you will stand out) After reading several reviews to validate my own experience and to talk myself out of thinking I wasn't being dramatic, I noticed similar experiences. I noticed a man and a woman walking up to a group of friends. The woman groped my friend and the man continued speaking and pushing his way to whoever he was acquainted with. He spit on me when I asked him to be polite about where he was trying to go. He still tried to continue to push his way to the front right in front of the eyes of the bartender. I understand other people's behavior are not in the full control of workers, but I had to take this situation on by myself and by the help of my friends who were also being targeted by these two specific people. By the looks of other reviews, this is something that continuously occurs but also ignored by workers and management. The harassment and theft that occurs here seems to not be dealt with which is extremely disappointing. PS: Drinks weren't great, expensive, and music was not it. This spot has live bands that play all genres of music by one band and I can appreciate that. Vibes are like a standing room concert during college days with no frills drinks and hh specials to boot. A good spot for a chill night and good music. read more

Absolutely LOVE the live music scene here, Magic School Busk is AMAZING. Would definitely consider going back, but our service that night was very rude. This one bartender got very upset that we didn't tip when we ordered canned drinks. Would make sense if we ordered mixed drinks, but if she made a big fuss about it. read more

I don't know how can the bartender mess up a simple drink, I order a margarita, he didn't put and effort to make the drink, the shaker was there so clean and he didn't use it, the smell was so strong,where I was sitting smelled like dirty trash can , my husband order a Paloma and the taste was awful!! Went to Tupelo a couple weeks ago with a couple of friends from out of town... Big mistake. To start the night off I ordered drinks from the bartender. Gave him a 50 and he gave what would be the change for a $20 bill? I called him on it and he said "oh very sorry" and gave me the correct change... Drinks were very weak. One of the girls had her phone stolen from her purse. Bartender cracked a bizarre smile and told her she should be more careful with her belongings. Never again. read more

My best friend got roofied a few weeks ago here on her bday. She drank 1 drink and was barely conscious. There's a group of men and women that were roaming the bar stealing phones and purses. The drinks were weak. The staff were rude. It was definitely a scam bar. My personal opinion is the security staff and bartender are being paid off to look the other way when purses, wallets, cell phones get stolen here. There are better and safer bars at North Beach. 1/10 would not recommend. read more

Fun place to come with your friends to watch live bands and have a drink. They are limited on cocktails so a mojito isn't an option (or at least when I went). I ordered a vodka cranberry and that was available. They have a few beers on tap. This place can get very crowded on the weekends. It was chill on the weekdays. Upon arriving at the bar with the intention of joining a gathering with my coworkers, I was denied entry by your security individual despite presenting my valid CA mobile driver's license (mDL) as proof of identification. Despite being of legal drinking age, I was informed by the security personnel that entry was denied due to the lack of a physical ID, citing a supposed legal requirement. As a resident of California, I am aware that mobile driver's licenses are legally recognized forms of identification in our state, and there is no requirement for a physical ID to enter a licensed establishment. This misinformation resulted in not only a disappointing experience for me but also caused me to miss out on a valuable opportunity to socialize and connect with my coworkers. Avoid! read more

Had an awful experience here (mind you IM a bartender also, so this takes a LOT for me to leave a bad review) My friend and I came in last night and the male bartender took our cards and opened tabs then gave us our drinks and walked away, there's a $20 minimum so we waited for him to come back because I wanted to pay for my friends drink and close my tab. He is actively ignoring us so I get the girl bartenders attention and ask to close my tab which she charges me $30. Two beers aren't $30, so my friend and I wait and (mind you the girl bartender was being patient) and she corrects her mistake, thinking we ordered 3 drinks. But my friends tab is still open even though I just paid for her drink, the male bartender is visibly annoyed at us and my friend literally tells me "he's scary I'm scared to close my tab with him" but he comes over and demands what we want and then yells at my friend that her tab isn't open. Which it was, 100%. The girl bartender then closes her tab for us because i paid for our drink. What gets me is the male bartender then looks at us and screams "now fuck off". We were shocked, honestly have never been treated so awful. We just wanted to buy two drinks, we weren't being rude or impatient and got treated horribly by him for ZERO reason. He cussed at us and tried to overcharge us and opened our tabs without even giving us the option to close the tabs or buy our drinks together. Only leaving a review hoping a manager or owner will read this and talk to the male bartender last night because he was cussing at people and harassing customers, i talked to more people in the crowd about my experience and they all said they had similar ones with him. read more

I recommend not coming here on a Friday or Saturday night. My wallet was stolen out of my zippered crossbody purse. If you do come here keep your valuables on your person in a zippered pocket. Don't wear a purse. The owner replies to yelp comments saying he is willing to let you review the security tapes but in reality he isn't. I don't appreciate being mislead. He instead says that there is nothing he can do to prevent theft, it is nearly impossible to identify thieves on film, and that he goes to meetings with other north beach establishments to discuss how to prevent theft but ultimately concluded there is nothing to be done. Well I also went to devil's acre and did not feel threatened and my belongings were not stolen there. The thieves work in groups. There were three large latino men, one in a red cap who were intimidating me and two women who get close to you in a crowd and will steal your belongings. They then went out to Club 26 Mix in the mission (very trashy spot) charged my cards $300 and then went to a gas station and charged gas and other items in the store. I had to spend an hour calling banks and canceling cards. I was hoping to have a fun night out with my friend who's mom has been sick and in the hospital for a few weeks. We were really just hoping to blow off some steam and take our mind off of things but instead get a headache and feel unsafe. There are definitely things to be done about theft at this establishment. There is something about Tupelo where thieves feel comfortable stealing without consequences. I have been on week nights without issue of feeling threatened. Stick to those. read more

Overall impression: I went on a Friday night and it was sooooooooooooooo crowded. I could barely move or dance inside. We arrived at about 10:30/11pm and waited outside in line for about 20 minutes. The place was quite small. The music was like 2010s, which was nice. I tried going to the restroom but there was a line and I wasn't sure if there's only one bathroom because I see both guys and girls waiting in line. You can also see guys using urinal while ur waiting because the door is wide open and directly by the urinal. read more

PSA!!!! Me and 3 friends stopped by to get a 1 drink and say hi to another friend who was already there. We ordered 3 baby Guinness. The bartender didn't hear the "baby" part and started pouring 3 Guinness. When I corrected her she had the worst attitude. My friend ask if we could have the Guinness she already poured so it's less hassle. So in total we got 3 baby Guinness shots and 1 beer. The total came out to be $65!! I was shocked. However, I was even more shocked that an automatic $10.20 Gratuity was added. The bartender automatically added 20% without my permission. There are no signs that says gratuity is added which seems a bit illegal. Major PSA to anyone going to this bar especially if you're drunk (which we were not) because this is very easy to miss. They ADD an automatic gratuity but keep the tip line there so if someone did notice they will be tipping 40/ 50%! Very Scammy. read more

This place is a glaring red flag. STAY AWAY. This bar, and especially the owner, has a neighborhood-wide reputation for being the scummiest and most blame-displacing place for blocks around. There are rings of thieves who operate there like they're paid employees, the bouncer is indiscriminately discriminate whenever he feels like it, and the owner is disingenuous when he says he will let people watch surveillance tapes to find their assaulters and pocket theives. He will tell you in public that he will you let watch the tapes, and then never get back to you or will tell you that "it's impossible to see anything" when you ask to see them. He says he has regular meetings with other bars about the assaults and theiving issues, yet this has been going on for years now with absolutely zero changes and no other bar on the strip has the level of problems his place has. My own experience - I went there with my friend. She got groped twice in the floor - while I was dancing with her. She realized her wallet was stolen while she tried to report it and point out the men to the bartender. The bartender could not have cared less, and the bouncer victim blamed her for not being more careful. Then they added a 20% gratiuty charge to a 2-person bill for already overpriced and mediocre cocktails. We filed a few separate police reports for the assault and the theft at central station a few blocks away and they told us that this happens a lot at Tupelo's, especially for the past few years. It sounds like they are looking for a smoking gun to go after the owner for, since as soon as they heard the name Tupelo's the officers seemed exasperated and told us that they get a lot of reports about this place and that they have been looking into it for a while. I won't go into details but they are watching this place. Avoid, avoid, avoid, avoid, avoid, avoid. read more

I was really upset by how unprofessional the waitress was on April 16th. First she did not notice me for a while, choosing to serve male customers so I had to chase her all the way from one side of the bar to another, then she took her time taking an order and did not care that I wanted to order smaller size. She also did not notify me when the food was ready and just let it sit on the counter for a while before I came to ask if the food was finally ready. Her response was simply 'I did not know where you went' which is ridiculous since there were just a few tables with customers, otherwise the place was empty. I have never received so much disappointment in a new place for me. Having walked in looking for a nice live music spot, the impression was awful considering the fun live band, which added to the contrast to this shabby, rude but overpriced joint. I hope the manager takes measures to make this neighborhood place better, otherwise I can see it losing all customers pretty fast. read more
