How is it possible to serve such great Q? I have been to other TX bbq places, some with high publicity and hype, yet none compare to Hard 8! First time I ate here about 6 years ago and still to this day, they are tops! Food: Can't go wrong with anything here, but the chopped brisket and spicy sausage really stand out. I placed an online order ($350+) through the Hard Eight Coppell website for 1/20. On 1/17 I called them to reschedule the delivery to 1/27, as my event was rescheduled. I was assured on the phone that it was no problem and the delivery would be rescheduled. The order delivered on the incorrect date and I called to notify them and come to an agreement to make it fair for both of us. The manager and GM were unwilling to come to any compromise and saddle us with a $350+ bill, even though they assured me when I called the delivery change would be no problem. They blamed it on the fact their website ordering system is via DoorDash. How is a consumer supposed to know this? I went through their website. Regardless, I asked for a consensus since I moved the date and since they assured me the change was not an issue, but as mentioned they left me hanging with the entire bill, no compromise or fault admitted for their error, I am extremely disappointed with them. We are a corporate business and I am a Coppell resident, I was trying to give a local restaurant this order and future business opportunities but based on how they handled this situation, my company will never order from them again. read more

As soon as you pull up to the parking you can see and smell the bbq smoke. Waiting in line felt like an amusement park. Instead of misters to cool you down you have smoke to distract you from the Texas heat. My first experience with seeing my order being prepared as you order. Once you go instead you can also choose from all the side selections. Of course we had to try a little bit of everything. Jalapeño sausage was my favorite. Ribs were good with a nice sauce. You walk in and choose your meat and they cut it to order then weigh it for price (you pay by weight for the meats and side dishes are priced per item). Then you go inside to the buffet line and pick your sides and desserts. It was a little confusing at first but they were very helpful. I wish I had known the corn on the cob was out by the meat before I had made it through the whole line. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere (industrial area) but worth the trip. Stopped by here right after landing in Dallas. This place was recommended by our family who are locals. It's right in the middle of a business park complex, has ample parking, and very rustic decor. They have quick service and the staff was friendly. They have a large selection of different meats. I tried the brisket and the sausage and my husband had the pulled pork and the sausage. Everything was piping hot and very flavorful. The brisket and the pulled pork melted in your mouth. Their barbecue sauce is amazing. I like how they let you pick your sides. Don't be fooled by the French fries, onion rings, buns and salads right at the beginning of the line - they just fill you up and aren't near as good as the other sides. The macaroni and cheese is to die for - cheesy perfection that is well seasoned. The potato salad was just alright. The creamed corn was very good but I felt like it was under seasoned and just had a heavy cream flavor. The best way to end the meal is with a piece of pie or hot fruit cobbler. I tried the pecan pie and the filling was incredible and the crust was buttery and flaky and literally melted in my mouth. We will absolutely be back the next time we are in town. We were lured out to Coppell from recommendations from an anesthesiologist friend who said this was the best brisket he's had in 10 years. If you factor in wait (how long the line is), number of meat options, flavor, meat texture (ie juiciness, fall of the bone tenderness etc) Hard Eight is so far our favorite. Super soft, juicy brisket. Succulent prime rib. Fall off the bone beef rib. Tender juicy turkey and smoky all beef bologna. Ok...this auto tipping thing has NOW reached a whole new unbelievable level. I don't know if management has been woked/threatened into allowing the checkout person to corner and ask which amount we want to tip, in which, he would be adding in himself. It's all just absurd. Tipping is not automatic and especially for someone to ask directly for the amount to give. This is before I even ate the food which is an assembly line system. I'm a believer in tipping when appropriate and necessary. People are generous. But it has to feel like a free choice. I'm hoping this is an isolated event not something that is the new norm. I've been to plenty of BBQ spots across the country, especially in Texas, and I've got to say, my favorites like Pinkerton's still set the standard with smoky, tender meat, flavorful BBQ sauce, and creative sides. When I arrived at Hard Eight, it was super busy, so I figured I was in for something great. I ordered a bit of everything--brisket, jalapeño sausage, and pork ribs (they were out of bologna, which was a first for me). While the meat was tender and cooked well, it was all overly salty, and none of it had any smoke flavor. The brisket, though tender, lacked a smoke ring and tasted like it was cooked in an oven, not a smoker. The atmosphere was comfortable with TVs, large communal tables, and free beans, plus sweet and unsweetened tea, but overall, I left feeling disappointed. When making my plans to meet up with a high school buddy, I said I wanted to have some Texas barbeque for dinner, he immediately recommended Hard Eight Barbeque, and the Coppell location. So that's where we headed to. Turns out Yeeps Ray F & Ward K favorably reviewed this place. Walking into the entrance we herded straight into the order line. In a very smart marketing move, the line snaked through the barbeque pits to the warming pit with all the smoked meats. The smell tortured us and convinced us to probably get more food than we needed. Meats are sold by the pound, except the ribs (beef & pork) that are sold by the bone. After your meats are tallied up, you queue up for the sides, condiments, desserts, soft drinks, and pay for everything. One item that you had to ask for was fried okra. That would have been nice, next time! After we set down our food at an open table, we went to the other end to fill our drinks. Turns out there were complementary beans available nearby the beverage station. There was a bar too. Had to get a Shiner Bock to wash the barbeque down! Started to chow down. Meat on both the pork and beef was nicely smoked, spiced, and tender. The corn on the cob, baked potato, & potato salad did their job cleansing the palate. Besides the main dining room, there were several axillary rooms that I suppose could be used for private event/special occasions. All in all, not fine dining but still good! Found out later Hard Eight is a chain of about 8 locations (like that symmetry!) This marketplace meat by weight method is the way to go- enough to be very full with a small amount of leftovers, and no meat coma! What was once a staple of the Trxas BBQ has fallen. The line out the door is of one time visitors. Out of towners. Busy to record their meal on their phones. The ribs' quality is below poor. Dried out to the bone. Nothing fatty or juicy to the meat. More bone then meat when you look at it. The sausage is rubbery, a grade above the ribs but not by much. Chicken is overcooked and tastes after the stock water it sits in. The one thing they couldn't screw up was the baked potato. The prepared and nearly frozen dessert round out the menu. It is very unfortunate to see a place lose its reputation. In Dallas, there are many good BBQ options. Save yourself the headache. Pick a place where they care. I got a chopped brisket sandwich and my husband got sliced brisket....it was veryyyyy dry and hard to swallow. The mac and cheese is good but there's too much cheese some people may like that and the sweet patato just wasn't good it had no seasoning on the outside and was very mid the only thing i was satisfied with is their banana pudding it was very good 10 out of 10. You get in line to order the meats, and some of the sides before going inside. I got the brisket and half slab of ribs, sweet potato and a corn. They offer bread and sauce as soon as you walk in. You can grab extra sides like slaw and potato salad etc. It's like standing in a cafeteria line. Oh and you will sweat while waiting for your meats. Once inside there lots of tables for seating. A bar in the middle of it all and self serve drinks. The brisket was good the portions I had was kinda fatty. The ribs were good and tender.
