100% 5 stars because of the Rice! I wish you could teach all of the other Hawaiian spots to cook white rice it was perfect. ordered the Kalbi and the fried shrimp portions were big and the beef was delicious. Shrimp was just a frozen shrimp nothing to write home about but the service was great and friendly and inside is clean and organized! Thank you for a great time

I'm a total Shakaddict now -- consider me converted! I've tried my fair share of Hawaiian BBQ spots, but nothing ever hit the spot like Shaka. My friends dragged me here before a movie, and let's just say... the movie didn't stand a chance -- Shaka stole the show. The service? Fast and friendly. The menu? Clear and drool-worthy. The food? Looks EXACTLY like the photos (no catfishing here!). My favs are kahlua and hawaiian bbq mix. My husband loves his chicken combo. Has not yet been determined which one is the winner. All very very yummy. Plus, the place is clean, comfy, and has plenty of seating. We're officially regulars -- and honestly, Shaka has never missed.

    Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Small Plate

Good reviews and the food looked good whenever it came out. However, nothing after that was good. I was only brought a plastic fork by the worker so was basically impossible to cut the chicken. Also nothing special about the location just a strip mall food place. Food wise I was super disappointed. The chicken was either reheated or overcooked because it was so chewy. Then the cabbage was undercooked so basically inedible. And the macaroni salad had zero flavor at all; it was basically unseasoned pasta with flavorless mayo.

Wow. One of the Hawaiian meals of all time. Literally stacked the box with food, it was SO GAS. Meats were well seasoned with good pops of flavor. The MAC SALAD WAS MACCING THAT day. Only complaint was that rice serving was too little, I had trouble rationing that stuff per bite

Our go to for Hawaiian food. 100% the best place in North Texas for authentic Hawaiian food. It's no wonder there're a constant trickle of customers flocking this joint. The food is delicious and takes me back to Hawaii especially when you get the spam and eggs plate. We sometimes skip the macaroni (although delicious) and get double rice. Customer service is consistently amazing. You're greeted with Aloha the moment you walk in and they make it a point to tell you to have a wonderful day/evening when you leave. Ambiance is very chill as the restaurant name states. You'll feel right at home without all the fancy. We've had Shaka cater one of our parties and they're on point with suggesting if you have enough food to feed a crowd. Definitely give them a visit if you haven't... you're guaranteed the best aloha in all of Texas. Our go to for Hawaiian food. 100% the best place in North Texas for authentic Hawaiian food. Kalua Combo with Chicken Katsu

Sweet mercy this place is my new favorite restaurant. I can't express how good the food is. We walked in and were greeted almost immediately which was so nice. We asked the attendant at the register (unfortunately didn't catch his name) what he recommended because it was our first time in. He recommended the lunch plates and told us the most popular are the Hawaiian BBQ Mix & the BBQ and Katsu Mix. He was extremely helpful throughout the process. My fiance and I ordered the Kalua Combo with chicken katsu get 2 proteins as opposed to 3 just in case it was too much food. Once we received our food it was game over from there. The Kalua pig and katsu looked so fresh like it was just barely made. I mean you can see it in the photo it's just 10/10 stunning. The rice was perfectly cooked and the pasta salad.. lord the pasta salad. I was looking on the menu to see if I could buy another side of it to take home. Not to mention it was such a clean and homey environment. It felt like you could come inside and enjoy a quality meal around good people. I love supporting businesses that you can tell have care and love behind them and that is 100% Shaka. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Seriously just come try it you will not regret it.

I LOVE this place! The food is good - just a what you can get in Hawaii. Everything I've eaten is good but I especially like the BBQ chicken and kalbi short ribs. Both are tasty! The only thing missing at Shaka's is a shaved ice machine. lol! The staff is friendly. Service is fast and accurate. There are seats to eat. The tables are a little sticky but the food makes up for it. I really enjoy coming here. I keep coming back for more yummy food!

    Chicken Katsu

Ordered the Hawaiian BBQ Mix (it has BBQ chicken, BBQ beef, Kalbi short ribs, and comes with steamed rice, macaroni salad, and veggies), Chicken Katsu, and the Crispy Shrimp (6 pieces). Every single thing tasted incredible - my personal favorite was the Hawaiian BBQ Mix. The short ribs were amazing and I couldn't get enough of the macaroni salad - all of it was in my belly in less than 2 mins lol. Do yourself a favor and get the Hawaiian Mix if you go, it's THE best. All the staff are super friendly and the service is excellent. 10/10 would recommend!

The food was good, if not the greatest BBQ I've ever had, but the overall experience was much fun. The restaurant is in the form of a large barn with ample seating and a walk-through line where you can pick out your meat and then any sides and drinks you'd like. I enjoyed having the "conundrum" of trying to figure out which of the meats to try as they stare at you from the smoker, all saying, "Pick me!" My first visit to any BBQ place is nearly always to try the pulled pork, figuring that if they can't get that right, nothing else is likely all that good. That's not always true, but since pulled pork is one of my favorites, it's a good approach anyway. :) I took my platter laden with an abundant amount of pulled pork and then selected corn on the cob, cole slaw, a slice of custard pie, and a sweet tea. After paying, I made my way into the main dining area and selected a high-top wooden table along the wall that was, shall we say, very awkward to sit at based on how the stationary stool was positioned in conjunction with the table, so I moved to a nearby regular table that was just fine. There's plenty of outdoor seating, but based on the temperature that day, I chose to stay inside. Digging in, I found the pulled pork to be good, but it was a little dry and salty. The standard house BBQ sauce was good, though, and the corn on the cob was very nice. The cole slaw was about what you'd expect, and the custard pie was tasty, even if it wasn't the best I'd ever had. The sweet tea was excellent. What I probably loved most, though, was eating all this in that environment, with the Texas-American paraphernalia hanging on the walls and a radio station playing nothing but 80s and 90s country music over the speakers--the years when I loved country the most. I wanted a BBQ experience as big as Texas while I was here, and I got that. For that reason, my visit to Hard Eight was a hit, and I will happily visit again on a future trip.

Food*** it's hard to really review as I only tried one menu item. For this reason I will go back again and try a few other items. The crab egg rolls were tasty. Full of crabmeat and great for a quick snack. I just thought they were average though. Nothing wowed me enough about them. I also wished the sauce would have been a sweet chili sauce. The remoulade wasn't a good fit in my opinion. Next time I would swap that out. Now this 3 STAR review isn't bad. I have nothing really bad to say. I just thought overall my experience was ok. So I will visit again to see if my next experience will be better. Just like the name I am hoping for a dynamite experience! Side note*** I like the fancy decorative toothpick that's stuck in the egg roll. This was cute! Wishing them the best as I do like the egg roll concept!

I also got the large Boudin Balls $9.99 for 6 of them and 1 Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage Link $6.99. The pork ribs are delicious, good bark, tender with a good bite but clean pull from the bone, very tasty. The rib plate is essentially half a rack and their ribs are quite large. I really hated that they put the fried pickles under the half rack of ribs. They ended up being wet and soggy, very poor packaging choice. The Boudin Balls were delicious as usual. The jalapeno cheddar link had really good flavor and the cheese pockets were very tasty. The texture of the link itself was a little gritty though. They have awesome pork ribs and boudin balls, this is what keeps me coming back.
