I have not been here in a minute and the quality may have gone down some, but also maybe in comparison to another bbq place I ate at earlier in the day, it wasn't just quite on the same level. I ended up getting a small steak, a couple pork ribs, some regular sausage and a little brisket. Everything was just fine, the steak I wouldn't get again though. Bbq continues to be one of the most experience meals, mainly due to all the hours these guys have to put into it. I really don't like to give reviews like this but I really want this Texas barbeque restaurant to do better . Brisket should be your bread and butter. You can't rush it. Your brisket just wasn't cooked long enough . The fat was not rendered . It looked gelatinous. Was unpleasant . Just didn't have a good taste at all . Not sure what kind of wood was used to smoke. The pork ribs were better but I wouldn't order them again. The jalapeño sausage was better than both of those. It was very spicy as well. Regular potato salad was good. Pinto beans in the big pot were decent . We were split on mac and cheese. Unsweetened tea was good but sweet tea you could stand a spoon up in it . You need to pour half of it out and add unsweet tea. The staff came by several times to check on us. They were very nice . 4 men sat at our table . One took a bite of everything on his tray and then that was it. He said I don't like anything. Two of the guys said they were disappointed in the chicken. Thought it would be better. Came here for the first time a few weeks ago with a work outing. We had to take two separate cars, and I had a feeling it was going to be good when one of the Uber drivers parked the car, and got in line with us. The brisket sandwich is also a good option because the jalapeño bread was very yummy. I've been here approximately 10 times and what I truly enjoy about Hard Eight is that there always is an abundance of food no matter what day you go. It has great quality food, without the hours line wait just to be without certain menu items available when it is your time to order. The standout of my meal are the grilled onions!!! The way they season them and how they caramelize on the cast iron skillet... bruh. The steak is always seasoned well and cooked to my specifications. You then go inside to pick sides before paying. My husband and I definitely over ordered and got: -1.5lb Brisket and 1/2lb Sirloin ($50.40 total for the meats): I'm gonna be honest and say it's not the best brisket I've ever had but it still hit the spot. We had lots of leftovers! -Mac N Cheese ($3.50) -Jalapeño Sweet Corn ($3.50) -Coleslaw ($2.75) -Onion Rings ($2.95) The sides, minus the onion rings, come in styrofoam cups. At first I thought they looked small, but trust me, they were filling combined with everything else! Typically at a BBQ restaurant I order ribs, brisket (sometimes burnt ends with the brisket), sausage and side dishes. I do this to get a full taste of the menu. At the majority of BBQ restaurants, some of the meats and side items are great and others are not. At Hard Eight I ordered brisket, ribs, sausage, prime rib, macaroni-n-cheese, cream corn and onion rings. Literally, everything I ordered was remarkable. There were zero leftovers from my feast, because everything was sooo good! A noteworthy item was the smoked prime rib. I usually request Ajou and horseradish with prime rib, this prime rib was so flavorful, I ate the entire slice with no accompaniment. Once you get your meat you go inside to get your sides. I enjoyed my food. It was really good.
