The staff is nice, pleasant but in comparison to the Tigard store, this one is bare, harder to find things and just not as well organized. Ace is pricey, you're not going to get THE best value on most items but that's okay if you are in a rush or have an emergency. But you will OCCASIONALLY find a real deal. It's just not often lol. It's convenient but definitely not my #1 choice for Home Improvement.

When I arrived at the paint counter and asked to have the cans shaken I was abruptly interrupted with a very rude "I won't shake up that can" by someone named Jaron. I was very taken aback by his rudeness since I've had many cans of previously opened paint shaken up there before. When I asked why (in total confusion) Jaron said "I don't want your paint all over my paint shaker". I was so confused at this point I moved on to ask for help with the can of paint I needed to purchase. Jaron was just incredibly rude and refused to help by being short and condescending. I picked out my own paint. I then asked to talk to Chris, the store manager and now I know exactly why the employees act like this at this store! Chris said "I am sorry you feel that way" and tried to justify Jaron's actions by stating thy someone's can of paint spilled in their shaker. I am not at all upset that ace no longer shakes up previously opened paint cans - that is perfectly within the store's right to decide and I was very clear with Chris on that!! I am, however, appalled at how rude Jaron was and how Chris didn't listen to my concern about Jaron's attitude and instead tried to justify it with an explanation of why they don't shake up cans anymore. I reiterated I wasn't upset that they don't shake up paint cans anymore and Chris repeated, "I'm sorry you feel that way!" The number one comment narcissists make is "I'm sorry you feel that way"! The first rule of customer service is to never blame the customer and that is exactly what Chris did with a narcissistic comment. I asked to speak to Bob, the owner but have not had a call yet. This store needs a new mgr (just read the reviews here - this is a pattern) and some education in customer service. Don't waste your time here! Take your business to Lowe's or Home Depot!

Excellent Prices and Outstanding Service at PARR Lumber I…read morehave been purchasing materials from PARR Lumber for the past 20 years for various projects around my home. My most recent purchases included composite decking, as well as pressure-treated lumber for a deck project. One thing I have noticed over the years is that many homeowners with larger projects may not realize how competitive PARR Lumber's prices can be compared with the big-box home improvement stores. For example, on my recent purchase: * 2x8x16' pressure-treated lumber: Box store -- $35.48 vs. PARR Lumber -- $32.88 * 2x6x16' pressure-treated lumber: Box store -- $26.28 vs. PARR Lumber -- $23.83 I found similar savings when purchasing composite decking. Price, however, is only part of the reason I am changing where I purchase my lumber. In the past, I have made several large lumber purchases from big-box stores and had the materials pulled by their employees. When I arrived to pick up my order, I frequently had to wait 45 minutes to over an hour in the loading area. I was often told at the front desk that someone would be out to load my materials in about 15 minutes. More often than not, I eventually had to call the front desk from my truck to find out when someone would be coming. My last two experiences at PARR Lumber in Hillsboro were completely different. For my most recent order, I called ahead and had my materials placed in Will Call. When I arrived, I paid for my order and then proceeded to the loading area. There were at least four vehicles ahead of me waiting to enter the yard, yet I waited only about 10 minutes before entering. Once inside, I immediately noticed how efficiently the yard personnel were working to pull and load materials. When it was my turn, I explained to the employee pulling my order that the lumber was going to be used for deck joists and that I needed relatively straight boards. He told me he would bring the materials out and that we could sort through them together. The majority of the lumber he brought out was good quality, so very little sorting was necessary. I was especially impressed with his professionalism, courtesy, and genuine willingness to make sure I was satisfied with my purchase. Overall, I have noticed significant improvements in efficiency and customer service at the Hillsboro PARR Lumber. My recent experiences have changed my opinion about where to purchase lumber for larger projects. I am now choosing PARR Lumber over the big-box stores for my lumber purchases. The competitive pricing, quality of the materials, and--just as importantly--the efficiency and customer service make PARR Lumber a much better choice for my projects. Highly recommended!

Sadly my worst customer service experience in 2012 happened here... repeatedly…read more You know the Portland mantra, "buy local, support local businesses, yada, yada, yada." Got it. Totally on board. Except when you feel like you are paying a penalty in both time and finances by going that route. 2012 was the year we decided to upgrade multiple kitchen and bath fixtures in our house. There are several specialty shops in Portland with a wide range of items beyond what you can find at Lowe's and Home Depot, but I wanted to stick a little closer to home. I was very excited to find this showroom just blocks from I-5 and the store itself is lovely. I've never been an internet shopper and while I research the bejesus out of retail items [1], the actual purchase of anything significant only comes after the all important sniff test. Or in this case, the touch and see test. Especially when you are looking at various finishes, you really need to see these items in person. A good friend, who recently went through a kitchen and bath remodel, recommended ordering through an online site. But, I decided to be a good little local consumer and ordered roughly ten items over the course of six months here. And while some of the in person experiences were swell, the overall experience was not. First of all, they seem woefully out of date regarding communication. Any retail business not taking full advantage of the web in this day and age is really missing the boat. They do have a website, and it turns out there are eleven locations throughout the Pacific Northwest, but it is minimal at best. There is one link to an employee's email, but we had a series of miscommunications by email, phone and in person. Several employees work at the store, but rather than deal with just one person we had multiple contacts. Because we didn't have a simple order (multiple items, some were on back order, etc.), it never seemed like the person we talked to knew what was going on. And when I compared the price I paid to the on-line site, theirs wasn't as good. So throwing a few extra dollars their way ended up feeling like a really bad idea based on the poor customer service. By the end of the project, I was ordering from the other on-line website. A few clicks of the mouse and items would magically appear on my doorstep. Go figure! Because I will always feel the need to see before I buy, I'll still stop by here. But actually buy something from here... nope. [1] It took me roughly 18 mo. and two dozen test drives to select my latest car.

They were kind, gracious and told me they would fix it and use my factory Miele parts that I brought-- even though they would have gotten them for me at the same price or less. The man who checked my vacuum in was one of the owners. I told him I was really happy to come out there because I didn't want to go to my local go to store. My sister went to Starks with hers in the same condition--and they told her that she needed to replace her vacuum, it'd be more to fix than it would be to replace.
