Matcha lavender cloud & pistachio latte

An aesthetic and delicious spot located in the SU campus area! With a wide variety of matcha and coffee drinks and lots of customizations it's easy to find something you'll like. I don't feel like they listen to the "light ice" option, but otherwise they're quite good at listening. Parking on marshal street can be a little crazy so definitely expect a bit of a walk or some circling if you don't live or work from a walkable distance.

What a delicious addition the the lineup on Marshall St! I was initially interested just due the variety of matcha flavors, and after a lot of desicion making I opted for the coconut cloud matcha. I was not disappointed! It was a delicious pairing, with a coconut water/milk base and a soft and creamy matcha foam. The matcha was not too bitter. It was maybe a bit light compared to the coconut flavor but still pulled through just fine on the taste test. My partner got a saffron coffee which was enjoyed but also maybe sure to bring a toothbrush or something after as the saffron does color the teeth. We also tried a dessert, basbousa, it wasn't quite to our tastes but was an interesting experience. It is street parking of course as its on marshall st. The interior is nice and modern, and the service was quick and kind.

This was a nice place to get a beverage and a little dessert, both treats. They have so much to offer so I can only give so much advice on this place. It is in a busy area that is near Syracuse University and if there are no big events going on and no classes in session you might find a decent spot, but it might get tricky on some days if you don't use the public garage. This place is large, I couldn't see all the way in the back, but from what I could tell there are a lot of spaces for small and larger groups, an open concept with a lot of light. You can order drinks online, I believe, or through a screen on location, but they always have staff they can take care of your order as well. I'm into matcha and wanted to explore there many matcha options, I should have just gone simple, but the one I chose was a little on the too sweet, shredded wheat side. I enjoyed the strawberry fruit mousse, they do have a lot of different options, but the mousse was great. A good sweet. So many options though, food wise and drink wise, I'm sure you'll be able to find what you are looking for here.

Haraz Coffee House You can feel the blend of culture in every detail. I tried the saffron latte (espresso) and it was rich, smooth, and beautifully aromatic, with the saffron adding a unique warmth you don't find just anywhere. The atmosphere invites you to slow down and savor the moment. A perfect spot to sip, savor, and enjoy something special. Good, friendly service. Plenty of seating. I already know what I'm doing next time!!! I'll be treating myself to one of those beautiful pastries or desserts

Really yummy! I tried the shaken espresso iced coffee and it was really good and loved the presentation as well. My friend got the pistachio iced latte which was also really yummy. I also was excited to try their desserts because I have been wanting to try the mouse cakes. It's hard on the outside and soft with mouse and jelly on the inside. It was fun to try and yummy for sure - I would definitely try their other mouse cakes! My other friend also got a pistachio croissant and it was huge! It was filled with a cream which was really good and crispy yet flaky on the outside. Haraz is beautiful on the inside and quite big so definitely welcoming for lots of seating and a great place to stay and catch up or bring a book or laptop and stay awhile. Their bathrooms are also super nice and clean but there is a code that locks them from the outside which makes it a little inconvenient. I would say this option is a bit pricier than other coffee shops and the waiting time was a little longer than expected. Everything came out nicely presented on a tray when you dine in. I think it's a good spot to treat yourself every now and again!

I had a wonderful coffee drink at this new coffee shop on the Marshall St. It is a chain with 30-40 locations. It was bright, very clean and the chairs were comfortable. They had many selections and I chose the Harazi Mufawar. Yemeni coffee with Cardamom and milk. I love cardamom with coffee and the Yemeni coffee was perfectly strong. They had a nice selection of pastries and a lot of interesting choices for drinks.

TLDR: 9/10 almost a perfect store with an exceptional attention to atmosphere and coffee quality. I find Haraz an excellent coffee shop, with a very few amount of flaws, that only comes in the form of pricing, and not drink execution. I have been to many countries trying coffee in various places, France, Philippines, Japan, and various parts of the US, so my expectations of Haraz, while open, were expected to be average. Lo and behold, when I actually had my drink, in this case a vanilla latte with oatmilk served to me, I found that it was brewed with exceptional quality, a solid 4.5/5 stars. The brew is not too strong, yet the flavors do thoroughly express themselves, the vanilla flavor can be seen, but it is not overwhelming as many stores so often miss. A vanilla latte for me is one of the standard drinks that I order at any coffee shop, it is easy to make an ok one, hard to make a bad one, and harder to make a good one. Haraz leans into the good side, and I am very appreciative that such a quality store has opened up in my near area, and that the times open are very highly accommodating of the student populace. The desert selection is also very well done, and the quality is an exceptional. A wide variety of beautifully crafted deserts. The atmosphere of the shop is really nice as well. While the music is not while I would listen to, I respect the cultural heritage and would not ever ask them to change it, it helps heighten the atmosphere of the store. I do feel as if it might be good to lower the music volume a bit, for those who wish to study in the store, but it is not in my place to judge. I also believe that the pallet choice is done well, the beige and white walls help the building feel more open, and the brown, green, yellow, and black tones help to bring a more modern feel to the store. I might also add that the rewards program at this store is better than nearby cafes, ahem kabul and salt city. So do take advantage of that if you frequent this store. My only gripe or complaint with this store, which brings it down .5/5 stars is the pricing of some items. While I can understand the pricing of the coffee to an extent, most specialty stores do charge a fine price for that specialty, the pricing of the beans is quite frankly, absurd. 1 bag of 350g beans is $33, double of what I would pay at Kabul for the same amount. While Kabul by no means is making coffee of equal quality to Haraz, the difference in flavor quality is not near a $17 price difference, as Kabul is by all means still a quality store. Additionally with no smaller size selections compared to other specialty roasters in the area, there is a lack of price points which allow coffee enthusiasts to simply sample the beans of their choice in smaller batches at first, before diving headfirst into buying a specific bean type. Near everything about this cafe is done with utmost care, quality, and appreciation for the coffee and customer, yet the realistic scenario of price points is still something that weighs on my assessment of this café. All in all though, Haraz is a more than exceptional coffee shop, and while I may not buy beans here, I will recommend this store to anyone who asks for coffee in the nearby area, as the artisanship is high quality. 9/10 an attention to detail not seen in many stores, you have my utmost respect for the quality. Now to finish my drink before it gets cold...

Overall, I enjoyed my visit. The vibe was relaxed and low-key, making it a good place to sit down and get some work done. I spent some time working while I was there and appreciated having a space where I could focus without feeling rushed. The staff was pleasant, and one of the employees was kind enough to take a picture for me when I asked, which I appreciated. The only thing that stood out to me was that there wasn't much of a greeting or acknowledgment when I walked in, but it wasn't a huge issue. The seating was okay. The chair I chose wasn't the most comfortable for an extended stay, but it got the job done. There was also some rock music playing during my visit, which helped create a casual atmosphere. I didn't order any coffee or food this time around, so I can't speak to the menu yet. This visit was more about finding a place to work and unwind for a bit. Would I come back? Yes. While I'm still searching for my go-to coffee lounge in Syracuse, Recess is definitely a spot I'd visit again. It has a chill, unpretentious vibe that makes it easy to settle in and spend some time there. I forgot to take more pictures will do when I go back.

They also sell some very cute greeting cards, earrings, magnets, etc. We ordered two drinks (Ube Espresso, Crème Brûlée latte), a flower pot mini cake (chocolate cake with raspberry filling in a decorative flower pot), a crème brûlée donut, and a spinach puff. The desserts were good, with the flower pot mini cake being our favorite. The chocolate cake was moist and the raspberry filling was balanced. We didn't love the flower frosting on top, but it was very pretty. The donut was very unique and filled to the brim with a fluffy cream - though we both thought it could've had a bit more flavor. The dough was perfect - soft and pillowy. The crème brûlée top made for a fun eating experience as the thin hard sugar had a satisfying crunch. The spinach puff was also delicious. Flaky pastry and cheesy filling - very comforting. The stars of the show were the drinks. The coffee was superb - balanced, smooth, and rich in flavor. While I didn't find the ube flavor to stand out, the ube espresso drink was still one of my favorite coffee drinks I've had. The Crème Brûlée latte was my friend's favorite - it was the perfect dessert drink. It even had the sugar crust on top. I would definitely come back to try more of their menu!
