My family and I came on a Saturday. The place was full but were were seated around 12 (you do have to come earlier to put a name down). Since it was our first time, we wanted to try everything to see if this could be a new dim sum spot we could add to the rotation. Like a few of the other newer dim sum spots, they give you a sheet and pencil for you to tick the items you like (with both English and Chinese). All their rice rolls were great! I came on Saturday with some friends, loved it so much, and wanted to bring my family 2 days later! Food and service on both days were great. The price for tea $2.50 is on the pricey side, but we thought they gave a decent amount of tea leaves (in comparison to other places). Our favorite dim sum items that we would definitely order again include the baked cha siu bao, bbq pork and corn cherng fun, bean curd roll, and dan tats. Sadly, the items that left us disappointed were the steamed cha siu bao and the ham sui gok - the filling inside both were sooo sparse. We also ordered the coconut crispy chicken today, which was fun to eat! I probably wouldn't get it every time but if the people I'm there with want to try, I'd be down. The skin is crispy, the meat is juicy, and you can taste the coconut - all while the head of the chicken is staring at you (heh). The inside is spacious and clean with plenty of space to walk. It can get loud (with all the Chinese aunties and uncles talking loudly), but never too loud that you can't hear your party. They open at 10am every day. We arrived a few minutes early on a Saturday, which was good because we got one of the last available tables. (People probably started waiting around 9:30am.) It consist of chicken prepared two ways (plain and soy sauce chicken). The plain chicken is served with a delicious ginger, scallion and oil sauce. The Siu Mei dumplings, shrimp with chive dumplings, daikon radish cake, and bean curd roll are delicious. The Shrimp Har Gow is just average to me. I think the wrapper is a little too thick and too soft. The seafood chow mein is also average. The overall dish doesn't have much flavor. This is a great, new dim sum spot in 626. On a Sunday afternoon, we waited almost an hour. But since it's located at a hotel, there's a huge lobby with plenty of seating while you wait. While waiting, we picked out everything we wanted to order, so it was quick once we were seated at our table. All of the dim and dishes are brought out to you. I like the hexagon shaped dim sum steamers, which was presented nicely. We got our big dishes first, which was the Beef Offal ($8.88) and Half & Half Hainan and Soy Sauce Chicken ($21.88 --there's a BOGO deal happening now). I loved that you get to try both and everything was delicious. The chicken even comes on a heated plate, so the meat stays warm throughout your meal. As for the dim sum, we had Shrimp Dumpling ($5.88), Juicy Pork Dumplings ($5.88), Chicken Feet ($6.88), Garlic Spareribs ($6.88), Pan Fried Pork Buns ($6.88), and Beef Rice Noodle Roll ($7.88). The lazy Susan seems a little large for the table since the plates were very close to the end of the table and there wasn't much table space for anything else. Located in the Holiday Inn - El Monte, there's plenty of daytime parking for the dim sum crowd and external benches for your wait - waited half an hour for a table for four on a Tuesday! They don't have any elaborate dim sum such as gold flake, truffle, squid ink, but they have very good, tasty and hot dim sum. Service was good with many hot water refills of our powerful Kok Bol, grease cutting tea, and ice water refills. Patrons could order a whole or half duck or goose which they position hanging at the table. Different! Steamed items were plump and tasty, fried and baked items appropriately hot and crispy. My partner's family had a get-together here during the week. Heck, I did not know this place existed, and I'd pass by here alls the times en route to LABC. It makes sense though. Every decent hotel should have a decent place for dim sum downstairs. Alas! we decided to meet for dinner, so no low-lit totaling at this hour. Plenty of parking around 6:30pm, and while business was healthy there were still plenty of tables to go around. The interior decor is elegantly designed, from the white walls and curtains to the pale floorboards, which contrasted well with the large, black chairs. Since our group spoke in mostly Cantonese, one of the waitstaff enjoyed a banter with us. When I noticed we were missing a soup bowl, they promptly went to retrieve another one. The dishes were served in a timely manner as well. Among the selections of the night, the main menu item was the coconut crispy chicken which can be ordered whole where you tear away at it. Alternatively, and the route we went with, the chicken is chopped into pieces and traditionally plattered. The skin was indeed crispy with the meat moist, and when dipped in lemon juice and salt made the dish very satisfying. Other items worth mentioning include the French style steak, walnut shrimp, and water spinach with fermented tofu, a classic. All in all, a great addition to the SGV. read more

The highlight of the restaurant is definitely their BBQ coconut chicken-- the coconut oil is fragrant and aromatic, and the fattiness of the chicken is countered well with the lemon slice they provide on the side. You can ask for the whole chicken (scissors, gloves & wet wipes) or ask for them to chop it up for you. I've come at least 4 times in the past two months for the chicken alone!! I thought the dimsum here was average, if I wanted dim sum specifically I would pick somewhere else in 626. For service, it definitely depends where you're seated, if you're seated anywhere close to the counter/bbq warmers you'll have to be calling for waiters especially during rush hour. It gets pretty busy even after 12! Most of the customers seemed to be Cantonese, and the restaurant admittedly seems a little small for a typical Chinese restaurant (but it is located in a Holiday Inn, which makes sense). I've come around 1-2 pm on the weekdays and still have had to wait for a seat. I don't usually seek out Chinese food. Maybe because growing up, my parents always defaulted to it and I was always just along for the ride. They've been inviting us out to this spot recently, which they seem to frequent on their own. The restaurant is part of a hotel so the parking situation is not the greatest. The service is pretty standard, and the food is actually very good! The roast duck is always super juicy (one time it was maybe a tad salty), the soy sauce chicken is a fave of mine, and we've also tried the coconut chicken (though I like the soy sauce chicken more). Last Saturday (Jan 11), I wanted to have dim sum for brunch, but there were too many people waiting. It was around 11:15 AM when I checked in, but the waiting list was long. The system showed 16 tables ahead of me, and I had no idea how long I would need to wait. Therefore, I gave up and decided not to wait. Today is Sunday (Jan 19), and I decided to try Happy Together Dim Sum. This is my second visit here but my first time trying their dim sum. Based on my experience last Saturday, I avoided coming between 10 AM and 1 PM, as that's the rush hour for brunch and lunch. I arrived close to 2 PM. A late lunch is usually less crowded, and I noticed that nearly 50% of the dining hall was empty. This was a good time for me to enjoy dim sum today. Honestly, the price and quality of the dim sum don't quite match. Some of the dishes were okay, but others didn't meet my expectations. Rice Noodles: The filling wasn't inside the rice noodles but rather wrapped around them. The taste was okay, even when it got cold, and the texture remained chewy. Siu Mai: The taste was disappointing. Traditional shrimp Siu Mai should have a balanced flavor of pork and shrimp, but this version didn't. Instead, it tasted like shrimp with too much starch and an overpowering garlic flavor. Shrimp Dumplings: The skin was chewy when cold but too soft when hot. The filling had a strong garlic flavor and lacked the aroma of sesame oil. Chicken Feet: The secret sauce was fine--it seemed to be made from garlic, chu hou paste, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil. However, the texture of the chicken feet didn't meet my expectations. Properly cooked chicken feet should have soft, sticky skin, similar to pork feet, with a rich collagen texture. These didn't have that. Beef Balls and Ox Tripe: I was satisfied with these dishes, though the ox tripe had too little sauce. One thing I noticed is that almost everything contained garlic. While garlic can enhance flavors, in this case, it overpowered the natural taste of the food. The service, however, was excellent, which is why I gave them a 5-star rating. I'll return for one or two dishes that I enjoyed, but I might avoid others. read more

Ambiance: bright with many windows, modern Asian restaurant Service: I was told that it was really busy so I called to see if I could make a reservation a couple of days ahead of time for lunchtime. The employee told me to call on the day of 30 minutes before I plan to come and they will save a table for me. Come day of, I do as instructed, and another employee said that I cannot do that. With that said, there is an inconsistency in the information provided, but I understand it's typical for dimsum you cannot make a reservation. On my actual visit, the servers had mixed up our order sheet with the table next to us. It resulted in a big mess that could have been handled in a more professional and quick manner but it ended up being a lot of back and forth with the staff and the table next to us complaining that we took their food and they're not wanting to pay for the food that we ordered even after I had clarified on multiple occasions to the staff that I did not order the dishes they were trying to bring to my table. However, misunderstandings happen, and after it was resolved, the staff was apologetic and nice. Food: affordable and reasonable prices, but the food was not enough to convince me to go back. The coconut chicken had crisp skin, but the essence of coconut did not really go well with the chicken. Breast meat was dry, but not inedible. The beef floss noodle was decent. The noodles were crispy but the sauce I found to be lacking a little in flavor. We also ordered char siu corn steamed rolls and shrimp and cheese egg rolls. The steamed roll texture is good, just a little messy. The egg roll filling was not my cup of tea as the cheese flavor was off-putting (think american cheese with shrimp..). Saw this restaurant on social media so we had to try it. Pretty close to the house and the wait time was very short. We had a nice mix of items and it was all pretty good. The pork and shrimp dumplings in the hot sauce and oil was tasty but the meat had a very odd texture. Like you had huge strands of nerve or bone or both. The wife and daughter bid into it and stopped right away. It was a shame because it was very tasty but the texture was not good. The soup dumplings (juicy dumplings) we're good. The pork shu mai portions were huge but they included shrimp and one of my pieces of shrimp actually had a tail in it. After waiting more than an hour, with only three parties ahead of us, I checked in and was told that a table was available only if we shared a table. We were dining with a three-year-old child -- sharing a table is simply not appropriate. I was then told 2:30 PM was the last order, as if the long wait was somehow my fault. When I pointed out that if the restaurant couldn't handle that many guests before last order, they shouldn't hand out so many waitlist numbers, the response I got was, "How would I know?" -- rude, dismissive, and shockingly unprofessional. I tried to be reasonable and offered a compromise: let us place our order first and move tables later when one opened up. This was rejected immediately, with an aggressive and hostile attitude from the front desk staff. A great dim sum spot, well worth a try! I recently enjoyed dim sum here with my wife and friends who highly recommended it. We arrived right at opening, and there was already a line. Thankfully our friends who live close by were already in line. The menu has all the classic dim sum options, but the standout for me was the Lo Bak Go (Turnip Cake). It's probably the best I've had, crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside, with perfectly balanced flavors. I'm not sure what all the rave is about. It's not very good at all. I was expecting good stuff, but got mediocre. We came here at about 10:30 AM because I heard so many good things about the food here. There were quite a lot of patrons, so that was a good sign. We ordered the Coconut Crispy Chicken (Half), Shrimp & BBQ Pork Fried Rice, Shrimp & Pork Siu-Mai, Shrimp Dumpling, Pan Fried Daikon Cake, & Sticky Rice & Chicken Lotus Leaf. The Coconut Crispy Chicken (Half) seemed as if it weren't cooked all the way through. There were pieces of the chicken that looked like it could've cooked a bit longer. Pieces that cooked through had good texture and was moist, but the skin could've been much crispier. There was definitely a coconut aroma/taste from the chicken, but for whatever reason, the flavor was not good. There was something off putting about it, and for $18, I definitely didn't feel it was worth it. I would not recommend this. The Shrimp & BBQ Pork Fried Rice was probably the best thing we had. It was flavorful and delicious, and the only thing my dining buddy liked. The Shrimp & Pork Siu-Mai was mediocre. It could've used a bit more shrimp and a bit better flavor. The Shrimp Dumpling was mediocre as well. The skin broke as we picked up a piece. It could've been that it steamed too long, or skin not made strong enough. And finally, the Sticky Rice & Chicken Lotus Leaf was not cooked all the way through... or at least not warmed up all the way. When it arrived at our table, it was piping hot, which is a good sign. When I unwrapped it, it didn't appear all the ingredients melded together as the rice part mainly white. First bite was hot, and it tasted ok. Second bite included pieces from the center, which were still cold. That should not be the case! None of these were the worst I've had, but definitely not the best either. Again, they were mediocre at best. It's almost as if they were bought in mass from a wholesaler, and steamed on site for consumption, and not made in house like some of the other restaurants. The service was decent, and the place appeared to be clean. I don't appreciate the TV's all around the restaurant as it cheapened the aesthetics of the restaurant. I've been seeing this place pop up a couple of times now. I wanted to go while Yelp still offered the 20% off lol so I decided to go today. Right when I got near the entrance, I noticed a sign that says bogo chicken. Can do half or whole. Pretty pricey tho. The whole chicken was about $40 for one and about $22 for half. However, it was an ok deal. We decided to order 1 whole chicken. They were really smart tho. They didn't charge us $40. Since we decided to do one steamed and one soy sauce with half of each for dine in. The other halves for Togo. They charged us about 2 orders of half chicken. So, pretty much, we gotta pay $44 for one whole chicken. The food was very fresh. Some were a bit more salty than the other. For example, the chicken was ok. Almost kinda bland, but it had a hint of flavor. Har gow skin was ok. The shrimps inside were salty. Shiu Mai was ok. Steamed Char siu bao was a bit salty on the inside. They didnt use the usual red char siu :( The outside was very good. I didn't eat the chicken feet, but it looked good. The egg tart was my fav!! The crust was a bit too soft and fell apart easily. However, the egg part was so good. I don't even remember when was the last time I ate a good egg tart with the buttery taste. I waited to ask about the Yelp check in for 20% off since I saw a yelper saying 25% off. When I asked for the bill, I saw 15% off, so I decided to request for the 20% off. The staff was hesitant, but she was happy to go ask her manager about it. They were happy to honor it with no issue. I left happy lol Note: Service was really whatever tho. My mom asked several times for soy sauce and chili. They would say ok, but no one actually wanna bring it out. I had to step in lol kinda annoying. Delightful! The ambiance was excellent for lunar new year and our table for 4 was right next to the hanging ducks! The three item duck chicken and soy sauce chicken plate was the star of the show, but only narrowly outshined the salted fish with eggplant and chicken! Another incredible honorable mention was the egg tofu with double mushroom--I always think it will not be that great because I underestimate the tofu and this time was no different. It was perfectly browned and tender. The green beans were standard, and the pork stomach was delicious as well. A great time with dear friends and our only regret is that dim sum was not on the dinner menu! Next time we will come before 3pm. :) read more

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of dim sum! Came on a weekday lunch and had to wait for around an hour. There is seating available at the Holiday Inn nextdoor as you wait. They have an open kitchen so you can see dim sum being steamed and soy sauce duck/roasted pork & duck being prepared. Beef Chow Fun was delicious with tender beef and you can taste the "wok hey". Shrimp dumpling, siu mai, chicken feet, spare rib, steamed bbq pork bun, shrimp & chives rice noodle roll, pork & onion rice noodle roll, and pan fried daikon cake were honestly all so good. The restaurant is underneath the hotel holiday inn. Parking can be a bit tight since it shares the same space as the hotel parking. You put your name down on the Yelp waitlist upon entering and it will keep you updated on the progress of your table through text message and a link. We waited almost an hour close to 50 minutes for a table and it wasn't even during lunch. It was around 11:00 am but it was worth the wait! The shrimp dumpling skin was so crystal clear and chewy. I liked their chicken soup and the star of the dish was their half and half chicken. Half soy sauce chicken and the other half came with a green onion and ginger dip. Food was delicious only thing negative is it could be quite pricey. But if you indulge and enjoy once in awhile it should be ok. read more

Most of our dinner dishes were spot-on delicious. We were a big party, so we got their Peking duck (so juicy, eat it while it's hot!) and a whole yin yang chicken (which was half soy sauce and half steamed). Their Thai-style egg tofu and steamed pea shoots were also yummy. These items stood out to me. I do not recommend their walnut shrimp as it wasn't worth the price and was also just dabbed with mayonnaise on top... Their French-style steak was also a big miss, as it was both too oily and salty. Also oddly squishy, makes me think they used a ton of baking soda in their marinade to tenderize it. Service here was good. We brought our own cake for dessert and when we told them, they promptly helped us clear the table and even brought out mini plates for us to serve.
