We stumbled across Happy Does Bar when we were bar hopping in San Diego while on vacation, and I'm so glad we did. This place is such a vibe! This place is massive! It goes back pretty dang far and it's covered in fake grass type of flooring throughout the space. Throughout the entire bar there is so much to do. A large raquetball type court, ping pong tables, giant jenga, giant Connect 4, etc! It's so fun, and the music is also the best. I was wearing a birthday sash since it was a belated birthday trip, and everytime the DJ would play a snippet of some sort of birthday song which we got a kick out of. Overview: 3.5/5, not friendly, food was alright, cool that they have activities like foosball ---- The service left much to be desired, our waitress wasn't very nice and kept trying to take our cans when we weren't finished with them. We had our beer cans in front of us and she tried grabbing them multiple times, I felt kind of rushed bc of that like they were trying to get us to leave. I asked for water and she just looked at me weird and kind of hesitated said okay then never came back with a water. Then I asked the other waitress we had for water, who also wasn't friendly, but at least she finally told me that there was a water dispenser I could use self serve. I don't remember their names but they both had blonde hair and weren't helpful nor friendly. I try to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was an off day but based off the other reviews it's seems like the norm unfortunately. ---- We were sat outside right under a bubble machine and when it would go off the bubbles would pop on our food which was kind of gross. If there was an umbrella covering us that would've been great, I liked the look of the bubbles but functionally it was bad for our food. It seemed like other tables all had umbrellas expect for ours, it would've been great for it to block out the sun too (in addition to the bubbles). ---- My friend ordered a SMASH DIEGO BURGER ($13) which he rated a 3.9/5. The burger comes with 2 smashed patties, American cheese, pickles, mayo, mustard, buttered bun, and served upside down. My friend asked for no pickles and no mustard, but he said it felt like the burger was missing more flavor and texture like some lettuce and tomato. You can also make it a combo and add fries for an additional $3.50 otherwise a side of fries is $8. I liked the fries, nice, thick, crispy exterior, and fluffy interior. Sauces are $0.25 ---- Notes: - parking is hard as typical as it is downtown, we Uber'd in to watch the Padres game but you can always trolley in too - a couple of restrooms there, the women's restroom had really small stalls with the door almost hitting the toilet when opened and closed - foosball table and other activities like giant jenga are a nice touch and gives them some points ---- Overall: I probably wouldn't come back on my own volition, if my friends really wanted to come I'd go with them. Happy Does is one of my go-to spots in Gaslamp. It really does live up to their name and is a vast improvement from Dicks Last Resort that was previously in there. The reasons that I like Happy Does are many, including how dog-friendly they are, it's so nice just to hang out with your furry friend at a bar and have other furry friends there as well. The manager even came up to pet my dog and gave him some burger meat, which he loved. I am also happy about how they divided the space - the front "yard" area, the back inside area with games and the karaoke/dance-floor area. I particularly like the yard area since it feels like you're at someone's backyard party (with lawn chairs and all). I also enjoy coming here for pre or post Padres games as well as the camaraderie with other padres fans. They have some pretty good drinks that are pretty decently priced for downtown. I haven't had a chance to order any food here but from what I saw others eating, looked very good. read more

Such a great space! This bar is huge and filled with seating, tables, and games. Everywhere you look there is something to do or somewhere to take a picture. I love the way this bar is set up. Part of it is outdoor vibes with ping pong, corn hole, Jenga, and connect four. Part of it is indoor bar with karaoke, photo booths, and an indoor bar. I love how dog friendly it is too, patio area is pooch approved. I ordered the Happy Juice which was a sparkling water rimmed with chamoy and tajin and some tequila and lime. We are on our way back to the car to go home when my son saw this place and he really wanted to go inside and check it out. I was skeptical they would allow kids because it's at downtown and there were lots of people drinking but I asked anyways and to my surprise they really do allow kids but only until 7pm. The place was so cool. It was so huge with lots of games to play with. They have karaoke rooms, ping pong tables, darts, a basketball arcade game, bean bag toss, uno, connect four, Jenga and plenty more. The best part was, you do not need to pay for each game to enjoy it, it's right there for you to play for free. You only pay for your drinks and food. Pretty cool place to hang out, especially for a big group. It's a super large space, with pickle ball courts although it looked like the ping pong tables were on them at the time, and corn hole. In another room, there was a huge screen TV playing sports. There's so much seating inside and out, I was surprised. Tried the Happy Juice which was a sparkling water and tequila. Once inside, there's a lot of outdoor seating and an outdoor bar, along with a good amount of inside area with seating, and a game area. You can order drinks, and food, at the bar, and they give you a number and you take a seat, and they deliver your food to you. For food, I had the jumbo chicken tenders, and made it a combo, adding onion strings. The chicken was plentiful, and there were more than enough onion strings for one person (I ended up sharing most of them). They not only have happy hour but also a bunch of games, ranging from pickle ball, corn hole, foosball, connect four, and darts. Looking for a casual game night / karaoke / backyard type of bar? Happy Does is the place! For the last couple of years Happy Does has been one of our top hangout spots with friends in downtown SD. Maybe it's the Filipino in me but we love a good karaoke night lol and the set up they have on Thurs - Sat nights at 8:30 pm for on-stage karaoke is always a good time. There are several bars throughout, one in the very back, one in the front near the entrance, and one in the space that hosts the karaoke/stage type of events. Food and drinks have a wide variety including your typical liquor options, burgers, fries, tenders etc, beer buckets, seltzers cocktails and more. Staff are super cool and never seems short staffed even during busy nights (like during padre games). A big highlight of this place is the pickleball court in the back which you will need to complete a short online waiver to play. Otherwise, there's a giant connect four, jenga, shuffle board, fire pits, a Photo Booth, sometimes a live DJ and any other type of backyard entertainment you can think of. I walked in and was immediately cornered by this server, I showed her my phone and was like I want to use my points and she proceeded to ask okay what drink we looking for and I said something with vodka and she suggested a cocktail on the menu. Perfect I pull up the QR code on my toast app( where the points are) and she goes oh I don't know how to scan that. We've had the app for 5 years and we never got trained. So I said oh okay I'll just go inside and find a drink cause mind u we aren't even 5 steps away from the entrance. She then proceeded to say umm no I already ran it in, maybe swipe ur card and it will take the points did that no points showed up and I had to pay full price like 20 bucks for a drink which was gonna be free. Today we decided to hangout at The Gaslamp Quarter in Downtown San Diego, CA. We stopped at Happy Does Bar for appetizer and drinks. We tried the spicy chicken tenders with Nashville sauce and really enjoyed. We ordered a Michelada and Pacifico beers. The Michelada was okay 3/5. The service was excellent and really enjoyed the atmosphere. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor has pinball machines and large screen TV's to watch sport games. The outdoor seating has a ton of fun games for adults to play with such as; Cornhole boards, pickleball, Jenga etc., etc. The restrooms were very clean and definitely want to come back to this bar to hangout. Recently heard about this spot from a friend who wanted to checkout their indoor pickleball court. It's a really cool spacious bar with both indoor and outdoor seating. Inside they have a bunch of games to play and you would need to give them your id if you want to rent any of the equipment (ping pong paddles/balls, pickleball paddles, etc). It's all first come, first serve for the games. The pickleball court was limited to 30 min per group. Downside was that they only allowed each group to play singles for pickleball and it was a little chaotic to try to save a spot in line since they didn't have a reservation system. You also need to have everyone in your group sign their waiver prior to playing pickleball. Also don't expect their court to be a standard sized pickleball court, it was definitely smaller that the norm (which is fine, because less running lol). Overall, I think this would be a fun spot to go to with a group of friends for a night out. They definitely provide a lot of activities to do along with a full menu of drinks/food. Didn't get to try their food during this visit, but will have to go back again sometime! read more

I asked her if I could order food with her but she mentioned that it wasn't her section. She said she'll grab our server for us. This place has so much potential but sadly fell a little under my expectations. I visited this place on a weeknight as I wanted to go to a bar that had activities for my group to do. The good thing was that all the activities/games here are free which is not the norm at other places in SD. My friends and I played a game of pickle ball (or 4) and then we played a game of arcade basketball which was free!!! You just have to spam press the buttons like we did. The interior is really beautiful as there's so many lights and there's an indoor/outdoor bar + area. I can see this place getting really crowded on a weekend though so not sure if I would stop by as waiting for a game can take a while. Drinks were lackluster at best. All the drinks were pretty much premade. The outside bar had an espresso martini machine where it just shoots out premixed drink which was meh. And then my group got a margarita tower which was really taxing for it to taste like your average grocery store margarita mix BUT it did come with a free side of fries which were super yummy for the drunchies.
