Roasted Cream Corn and Bacon Mac & Cheese
Allison R.

Update: they changed the recipe for the Mac n cheese and creamed corn and they were awful. Got rid of some sauces. Chicken used to be thick and juicy but now it's super thin and flavorless. Really disappointing. Used to be in our monthly rotation but kicking it to the curb now.

Little Chick (spicy)

I got the little chick which is 2 chicken tenders, fries, and a dip. I chose the spicy tenders. They weren't too spicy but they were flavorful and juicy. I chose the garlic ranch as my dip. I would come back here just for their garlic ranch honestly. It was one of the best dips I've ever had! In the dining area you have to order through a QR code. It wasn't very efficient and we had problems with the order not going through so I would recommend just ordering all food and drinks at the bar.

Had a nice time going in and order my food to go. Sat at the bar and had a few Jell-O shots and a beer while I waited and talked to the staff. Very kind bar staff! The inside is cool with plenty of seating. I even saw a show upstairs at the comedy club the following night. The food was as good as it looked. Good spice on the tenders and all the sauces were amazing.

Fast service, incredibly fresh food, and great drinks. I highly recommend the spicy chicken tenders with hot honey sauce and the white cheddar mac and cheese--absolutely perfect!

Say Happy Chicks Sixth Street may be dirty but this place is cleaner than a chicken coop. I wanted a quick place to grab lunch and took a seat at the bar. Apparently you order/pay for your chicken and drink on the phone and the staff brings it out to you. It's a bit futuristic but works well. The place is between a fast food joint and sports bar, and fits well on 6th Street. The chicken strips arrived in pairs with a side of fries. They were great! The chicken was hot and crispy and had a side of ranch. It was exactly what I needed between meetings. The decor is Austin eccentric and the staff is very nice and friendly.

I've seen this place with a huge line on the weekend nights, but it's pretty lowkey if you wanna grab lunch on a weekday. I totally love that they're making it acceptable for adults to order chicken tenders, since theirs are simply amazing. Only complaint is that I ordered a Jumbo Chick for takeout and didn't get a bacon mac & cheese; they gave me two creamed corns though. Original Chicken Tenders: These are no Tyson tenders from the freezer section! They are thick and juicy and covered in a crunchy batter. And they're pretty darn filling! Only downside is if you take any as leftovers, they're a bit limp reheated... so just eat them all at once in the first place! Country Gravy: This is white gravy, not the brown kind you get at Thanksgiving. It added a nice creamy texture, but it was kinda bland. Garlic Ranch: Tasted like regular old Ranch to be honest. But ranch is a great pairing to chicken tenders. Roasted Cream Corn: Wow, this side was awesome! Roasted corn, with nice blackened bits, in a creamy soupy sauce. Very rich and filling, a little goes a long way. Fries: These were a tad disappointing. KInda limp. Some sort of seasoning smeared on before frying, but not that memorable. It's weird this came out of the same deep fryer that made those masterpiece tenders. Gooey Butter Cake: This was the sleeper hit! One of the best desserts I've had in Austin. So buttery. So gooey. So soft. It was pure deliciousness. I might come here again just for the cake!

Four of us came here trying to get some good food after a show we saw. I should have known that if there is no wait on a Thursday evening downtown the place cannot be that amazing. We seated ourselves, the food and drinks took a long time to come out and there were two staff in the entire place. I will say the chicken disco ball was the hi-light for me. It is a cool chicken disco ball above the bar and that brought me a lot of joy! The ambiance of the place was only mediocre for me. I get it, it's a chicken place how dazzling could it be!? Lol the guy who dropped off our food pointer around a corner and said if you want water help yourselves. We were so hungry we just gobbled our food down but it was not well flavored and did not taste wonderful. The sauce was better on the chicken than anything else! I must say the fries were well seasoned and cooked perfectly! The bill was affordable and you pay before you eat so when we were done I thought it was cool how we could easily take off! The server was pretty nice when he dropped the food off. Sadly I probably will not be coming back here.

Ordered the ATX salad with the fried chicken here- and granted, I probably shouldn't have gotten a salad at a chicken tendie place but I was feeling heavy from all the meat sweats and needed some greens. The actual salad was fine. Pretty standard greens mix with some avocados and your basic grocery store shredded cheese. It came with one chicken tender that was sliced up. Sadly, I thought the chicken tender was actually kind of dry. I also didn't love the batter- it wasn't well seasoned. The chicken tender reminded me of subpar tendies from the school cafeteria, hence the low stars. For $13.99, this wasn't a super cheap meal either. Would not return

I came on a small trip with some peeps and I've become a big fan of just plain chicken tenders with a side of fries. Well this just elevated what I expect chicken tenders to be. I ordered a couple of chicken fingers that came with fries and hot the amazing honey sriracha sauce which made this meal much better. I sat and enjoyed a beverage as I waited for my meal and and it called my attention that there was a disco chicken hanging bright like a diamond. I learned from the person who took my order that it was custom made and designed specifically to their likings which just gave another level of authenticity to the place. This place is also open at night with good music and vibe, so overall a great spot in 6th street and near the hotels. Can't wait to come back and enjoy the amazing and vast options of chickens that they have!

I just wanted something simple, and the food was good. Though the food was fresh and juicy, it had no spice to it (I ordered the tenders spicy)... unless it was just me expecting much more. I was initially the only one in the establishment when I walked in, and I had to order off of the table where I sat. I do not like the fact that when you order, you do not have a choice of what sides go with which meals hence why I I ordered two extra tenders with my little chick order. I wanted four te sees she just fries, but I also wanted the option to mix and match my sides versus the bar having what would go with each order. I do not live in Austin, so this was a new place for me. I would return to try other items on the menu.

Stopped in here downtown on 6th during a bar crawl and was pleasantly surprised. You order at the table by scanning a QR code. Menu is easy to navigate and it's very fast service. Quality of food is good, cocktails were strong but we did have to go up to the bar to make sure they brought them to us, they said it was an app error. Big booths and plenty of seating option.

The two piece was substantial for me, and the four piece seemed to be a little too much even for a big boy. The restroom floors were suspiciously very wet. I feel like they could provide some moist towelettes because the chicken was very greasy, and we had to just pour water on the napkins. But the staff handled it really well. They were fast, apologetic, and refreshingly colloquial, not stiff or robotic, just real people taking care of customers and keeping things moving. Since fried chicken was off the table, I went with the grilled chicken, and honestly it was excellent. Juicy, perfectly seasoned, and flavorful enough that it did not feel like a consolation prize. Maybe this was the universe giving my cholesterol a temporary reprieve. The collards were just okay and not the strongest part of the meal, but everything else made up for it. The restaurant itself was super clean, and you could tell this newer location is well cared for. At about two years old, it still felt sharp, polished, and well run. I've been to several Hattie B's locations over the years, including the original in Nashville, Franklin, and Atlanta, where I once saw a woman riding a horse down the street in front of the store, which remains one of the more unforgettable restaurant-adjacent moments of my life. Austin compared well with all of them. Bonus points, there was no line, so we had a quick lunch with coworkers and still made it to the airport early. Spicy Boys has four locations in the Austin area, with probably their most popular at Zilker Brewing. They are a spicy chicken establishment and their spicy chicken comes in different shapes and sizes from bone-in fried chicken, chicken sandwiches, and nuggets. I have only ever ordered their fried chicken sandwich and every time, I have been a fan. I always get their middle option in heat, the Hot Gai, which is sandwiched between the OG and the Tingly Gai. It hits every time. The mayonnaise, the pickles, the perfectly crisp chicken: you can't miss it. As a side, I ALWAYS without fail get their Tater Tots. They are consistently crispy while remaining soft on the inside. Sometimes I will get it seasoned with their Tingly Sichuan, but the heat is sometimes too much. I cannot recommend the tots enough. Spicy Boys is one of those places that is always there for you. They are consistently open and the people making the orders are putting a ton of dedication into making them smack every time. The sandwich alone comes at $9.50 with the tots at $3.50, which seems on par or slightly lower than a typical food truck if my memory serves me right. I recommend giving them a shot whether you are at Spokesman in Pflugerville, St. Elmo Brewing, or Zilker off 6th Street. It's in the upper echelon of food trucks. RIYL: peak chicken sammys

Today, with a BOGO coupon in hand, I did. It's a counter-order fast-food type setup, but I thought it strange that the big menu board didn't mention prices. I had to search around to find that info, in a battered 8x10 frame on the wall. Hmm. $13 for a meal of 3 tenders and fries, with no drink or biscuit included? Seemed a bit much. I got mine to go, and asked for one order of original and one of spicy tenders, but at home, neither of us could tell the difference, so I guess they didn't give me spicy. The tenders varied in size from big to skimpy, but were fresh and tasty--though I would have liked to try the spicy type. The fries were also good, a nice medium cut, in between the dreaded shoestring and chunky steak fry. The sauces we got were good, but if you use a lot, looks like they charge "Just 99 cents!" for an extra tablespoonful. With my BOGO, the price seemed about right. But at their posted price point, (which seems designed to go up at a moment's notice) I'm much more likely to spend that much for table service and excellent chicken a few blocks further north on Burnet--or half that for Cane's or Popeyes, if I want to order at a counter and eat out of a box.
