A couple of dishes made me sick. So, I instituted a policy of only eating their fried dishes. It's not saying much, but they have some of the best General Tso's and pot stickers in Boulder. Gross cornstrachy hot and sour soup. Not much else to write home about. Good place to go if you are doing laundry and the place in the same building. Super cheap. Nice lady runs it. read more

i have been coming to Hao way since the owners kids were very young and now they are close to college age. so I've seen and tasted the ups and downs with this place. its not as good as a lot of Chinese places i've been to, but its not the worst. They are pretty consistent with the taste and quality. the lunch special /steam table is a good deal equal if not better then Tri-lings. The one thing I do not like and this goes for alot of Chinese places.. stop using bagged veggies!!!!! So if you want an inexpensive just about average chinese place .. this is a good place for that. the hot and sour soup isn't very good.. the wonton soup is bomb. read more

InsanIty!!! I called and the woman I spoke with told me to call back in an hour because they were busy!! Then handed the phone to a poor worker employee and proceeded to tell me they didn't have a manager! And apparently there online menu is inaccurate my order came out to about 35$ for what the online told me was about 20$! Do not order here! Haoway is the best place for Chinese food in town. We've tried other restaurants but none were quite as good as this place. The food is delicious, plentiful and extremely reasonably priced. No matter what we order, we always get crab cheese wontons to go with it. So. Good. If you're not going to Haoway, you're missing out big time. read more

I have been going here for a number of years. The family that owns/runs the restaurant is hard-working, friendly, and offer what I feel is amazingly affordable good food. I love Chinese food and have had Chinese roommates in the past who really educated me about good Chinese food. I also went to school in the Bay Area and had many favorite restaurants in San Francisco. Two items at Haoway are really top-notch: their chicken fried rice and their fried dumplings. I realize that fried rice is not much of an "authentic" Chinese (szechuan, hunan, mandarin, etc) dish, but Haoway's is really really good. And their dumplings are the best I have had anywhere in Colorado. Sure the ambiance is strip-mall-retro, but who cares! I always get my stuff to go anyway. There is a brand of Chinese food that is supposed to be greasy and taste like it came out of a can. Personally, sometimes that's what I want- like if I'm starving or maybe it's the New Year's Day hangover. This place dishes out Chinese American deep fried sugar coated glops of food with a nice attitude and a GREAT price. Seriously the prices are from 1989, which also adds to my love of this particular variety of ethnic cuisine. Lunch fills you up for $3. Always a good choice to come here for take out. Love the general tsaus with tofu and they have a great vegetable mu shu. Large portions, great for left overs, with plenty rice. Canned beveraged to choose from and right next door to king soopers. Fast service! read more

Has great food. Closest thing to New York chinese food that you can get in Boulder. However I'm a little frustrated with their delivery service. My husband and I have called for delivery several times and been turned away because their driver is "too busy" which is a turnoff. Please hire more staff. Your food is worth it. read more

I've lived in Boulder for 25 years and had never heard of this place until I saw it on Yelp. After eating lunch there this afternoon I now know why. It is hands down the worst Chinese food I've had in Boulder and possibly the worst I've had anywhere. The lo mein miserable, the sweet and sour chicken was tough as rawhide and the sauces were packed with artificial flavorings, colors and chemicals. This is really bottom of the barrel stuff. When I want American-style Chinese food in Boulder, the hole-in-the-wall Hao Way is my #1 pick. The food at all the other local restaurants of this type just isn't as good as Hao Way's. That said, make no mistake, there's plenty of oil and corn syrup in use here, as this type of food demands; but thankfully, it's not quite at the levels of Panda Express or the relatively upscale Chinese places around town. For the lunch hour, Hao Way has very popular and very cheap plates where you choose a few items from a buffet (not self-serve). However, you can order off the menu at any time and get bigger portions. I often think I'm going to have two meals' worth of food for about $10 (a typical amount to spend at dinner, with tip; expect to spend about $5 or $6 on lunch), but it's so tasty, I usually eat it all in one sitting. When dining in before about 3pm, meals are served on disposable plates with plasticware; they're on washable plates with silverware for the dinner hours. The atmosphere is informal, the dining room is no-frills, and the clientele is a random assortment of what I would call regular folks. In other words, I'm not sure I'd bring my slightly fussy, 60-plus-year-old mom to this restaurant. She would probably prefer someplace a little more "nice". However I wouldn't hesitate to introduce her to their food via delivery. I usually get the beef or combination chow mein, but sometimes choose garlic shrimp, mu shu chicken, or sesame chicken. All are delicious. The beef, chicken, and tofu are fine. I like the lo mein, and the hot & sour soup is excellent. The only thing I haven't been a fan of is the Szechuan option; the veggies weren't ideal and it wasn't that spicy. They do have crushed red pepper in oil that you can use to liven up any dish, though. I always add it to my rice. Hao Way is definitely a family-run business; the owners' children are often right there studying in the dining room. Everyone is very nice and they're always delighted to see their patrons, regular or not, so I tip heavily. read more

This is hands-down the best Chinese food in Boulder, CO. Not to mention, it is inexpensive. Anyone with a palliate for Chinese take-out will agree that this place is delicious. Don't listen to the uptight Boulderites who complain about the ambiance and "americanization" of Chinese food. Absolutely, positively the VERY best Chinese food Boulder--or dare I say, the world--has to offer. To put things in perspective, even if you found yourself adventuring in China (China!!) and came across the original Chinese restaurant which crafted its food from 2000-year-old family recipes, you'd still long for the heavenly joy that is Boulder's own Haoway Chinese Cafe. Of course, you must also consider the service. It is (no questions about it) definitively the best, friendliest place ever to grace the Earth (or the entire cosmos, for that matter). The cook, while he speaks little English, is the friendliest and most energetic person in history; the cashier has grace and poise too rarely seen in the human species; and the teenager in the back? Well, he's one studly fellow. Some may complain about their "Americanized" version of Chinese food (All I can say is, what did you expect?), or the small size (Yoda was small, yet one of the most powerful Jedi to ever live--think on that!), but in reality there's really no other option if you want to capitalize on your lottery-level good fortune to experience the highest-quality Chinese dining ever to exist. read more

I originally wrote a bad review on Haoway, then came to realize, I was ordering the wrong item. If you order the food they have in the hot case, it's hard to beat. One thing to note is, the sesame chicken is probably the best in town. Reason being, it is always crispy and never soggy. Complete lunch with 2 apps and soup for under 6 dollars. My girlfriend and I were craving some Chinese food the other night so being students we went on hungrybuffs and looked through the Chinese restaurants. We had tried nearly every other Chinese restaurant on there except for just a few and were never satisfied with the quality and taste. So I decided to go on yelp and look at the reviews for the remaining Chinese food we had not yet tried. I found that Hao Way actually had decent reviews, something I didn't expect from a little shack located in the King Soopers strip mall. Based on some of the other reviews we tried the curry chicken and the sesame chicken, both were surprisingly good. I went back last night to try the moo shu chicken and that was really good too. Now this certainly isn't the best Chinese food I've ever had, but it's definitely the best I've had in boulder. read more

What can I say? Despite everything being served in some shape of styrofoam(either dine in or take out) I like the food. It is always fast and fresh when I have went and great value for the money. $6-7 dollars gets you a big pile of food. I like it but don't expect gourmet and I wouldnt dine in. Too cramped. read more

Wow I was just going to share my thoughts but as I could have guessed 2 of the other 3 reviewers on here had a pretty terrible time with this place. Their portion size is so small that its at least double at the aboslutely wonderful chinese restraunt down the street. They are very rude and dont want your business if you order under 12 dollars worth of food for delivery even if you live a block away like i do on 35th and colorado. I do enjoy the soups at this place but the food is horrible and made differently then most other dishes. Such as Szcheuan chicken is not supposed to be made with a plethora of carrots and no mushrooms. Just overall i would never recommend this so called restraunt to anyone. 4 tacos for a dollar at taco bell is a much better deal and will fill you up more! DONT GO TO HAOWAY! ITS A WASTE OF TIME, ENERGY, AND MONEY! read more
