Went for their lunch special. Great price for students looking for a cheap meal. My total was around 9 dollars for a decent amount of chicken and the choice between rice and lo mein. I got the firecracker chicken and orange chicken. They both tasted very similar and were not impressive taste wise. The lo mein was bland and didn't taste fresh, even when I got a fresh batch. I love this place! A great "classic" American Chinese food restaurant. They have inside seating too! But I usually do take out. I've only gotten the Orange Chicken(3 times) but it's delicious! It's the typical pieces of chicken fried in tempura batter with a zesty citrus sauce. They do it exactly like I had in the 90s on the east coast! So good and cheap at around $14. They have lots of other foods, I will need to try one day. The women is very hardworking and nice at the register. Thank you! read more

Very good Chinese food. I got chicken in garlic sauce and hot and sour soup. My soup was just ok. The broth was pretty good, but the solid ingredients were meager, even for hot and sour soup. Where this place shined was my entre. The spice level was a perfect medium spicy with a good garlic flavor. The chicken was nice thinly sliced white meat. There was a good quantity of vegetables too. Called in my order and as soon as I walked in to pickup, I should have bailed. The smell of stale rancid oil was a clue, and the noodles had the same taste. The noodles tasted like stale boiled noodles which had been hanging out for a while. The meat tasted boiled. Appears oil was used to revive this and definitely greasy. Just discovered Haoway a week ago and have been back twice. So far I've tried General Taos Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Pork Fried Rice. I've been ordering from Haoway since the early 2000's, and they have been my favorite Chinese place in Boulder for about as long. The proportions are large, a meal here is relatively easy on the wallet, and in a market where the dishes struggle to stand apart, their recipes are always tasty and consistent. I've had Chinese in many states, including the bay area and NYC, and don't really understand the negative commentary, but everyone is a critic I guess. As a local, with Hao Way as an option whenever I choose to eat out, it is one of my regular places. Tonight I ordered Beef in Garlic Sauce, and it's great. I also ordered Hot and Sour soup and Kung Pao Chicken (my staples) and all of it is great. The meat is well cooked, well spices, and the veggies are always fresh. Oh, and their hot and sour soup is out of this world, pretty much anything they do with tofu is amazing. My wife usually gets the Beef Lo Mein and Crab Cheese Wontons with Egg Drop Soup, and I won't speak for her, but I can say she's always pleased with her order. In the past she has said this is the only place in Boulder that gets Egg Drop Soup just right. And just because I saw it mentioned, the nice cashier lady, she is friendly, but she is also focused on taking your order and running the restaurant and making sure everything goes smooth for her customers. The staff is usually just her and a cook, it's not an easy task. With that in mind, I suspect any lack of overt friendliness was likely a direct result of her making sure your order was accurate and your food tasty more than trying to be overtly friendly. Consider other chain restaurants in town, notorious for getting your order wrong, but doing so with a smile. I know which one I'd prefer. I don't really do many reviews, but I love this place dearly, and want to do my part to make sure it stays open, so I hope you try it and like it as much as I do. read more

It has been several years since my last review and I wanted to update. The great news is Haoway is still my go to restaurant. Their potions are large; the ingredients fresh; the dishes consistently made and the temperature is perfect. Yes the price has gone up but absolutely everything I buy had increased. Only one thing has changed and that is they are closed on Sundays. While I was affected I am very happy for the Harding working team of two that work every other day making and serving their customers. When you purchase and bring your business to this business you can expect a consistent experience every time. There are some seating but the lion share is takeout. read more

This is definitely a strip mall kind of Chinese joint. It's super cheap, albeit not too quick on the service side. I ordered the sesame chicken and it's about what you'd expect if you were walking around a suburban mall and looking for cheap but decent food. What's surprised me the most about reading other yelp reviews is the fact that no one mentioned they serve everything in styrofoam, which is kind of a downer and seems like it would be more expensive that just washing plates...but what do I know...I just help people start small businesses. This is hands down the best American-style Chinese food in town. No frills, savory food at sensational prices. My partner and I can usually get one entree and two soups to make at least 2 meals for around $16 w/ tip. They've got a great variety of dishes, and if you like it a little more spicey they are willing to accommodate. It's a family run business and they've always been consistently great with the quality of the meal and their service. We usually order food to pick-up, and if you order here often you know "10 minutes" is pretty standard for the time it takes to be ready. I think once it was 15 minutes, and they mean it; I've never waited for my order upon arrival. Pro-tip, they have some of their spicy oil they use for their dishes on the counter by the other take-out gear, do yourself a favor and grab some to add to your dish (or other dishes at home). People complaining about the food and the store's presentation (it's fricking clean people, they got an A on their health inspection. It's just not sparkly and fake like your chain restaurants) should stick to Panda Express or P.F. Chang's if they can't handle the authentic tastes and feel of this old school joint. read more

We had high hopes for this place, since we usually love little "hole in the wall" places, but no. We got carry out; sweet and sour shrimp, Kung Pao beef, and Crab and Cheese Wontons. Decided to try this place after reading the reviews for a no-frills, affordably priced Chinese spot and I must say, it totally delivered! We ordered 2 x egg rolls and 2 x vegetable rolls, which at 2 for $2 is a steal. We got the sesame chicken and the portion size was generous. Enough for us both to have dinner and still have leftovers. Only disappointment was the hot and sour soup... It tasted funny and was a bit greasy--I couldn't eat it. But, we will definitely order here again. Two quick points to note: 1. They DO NOT deliver. For some reason, there are reviews stating they deliver and it is listed as a delivery business.... I don't know if they used to, but they currently don't. 2. Your order will be ready in 10-15 mins, which is awesome. Just make sure to be ready to go pick it up within that timeframe. Our go-to Chinese restaurant when in Boulder! We just got off the plane from Michigan and this was our first stop in Boulder! Very nice owners. Orders get placed at the counter. When I have been there in the evening it is a very busy take-out place, Although I prefer to eat in. The food is hard to beat- and I have finally found my favorite pot stickers, (and have searched for 30 years since leaving Berkeley CA and my favorite restaurant there) - I also dig the mu shu vegetable, sesame tofu, shrimp and cashew. First of all, the food is delicious! It's located in kind of a sketchy strip mall right next to King Soopers, but that's what really makes this place. The lady who runs the place is a little sassy which gives the place a little spice. The food is always cooked well and it's very inexpensive. The shrimp and veggies I got last time was a little sparse in terms of flavor and shrimp but the General Tso's tofu was spectacularly flavorful and their veggies are well cooked! Quick and delicious. Panda vs. Hao Way? Are you NUTS?! Panda is a chain of fast food Chinese that's more McDonalds than Local. Give me a break. Hao Way's been in business for a very long time, and their food is pretty well done. But it's American Chinese. What do you want from American Chinese? Gourmet Amercan Chinese? ... does such a thing exist? After Royal Peacock packed up and flew the birds' nest, I have been seeking decent Chinese. I've tried them all. I've tried every single Chinese restaurant in Boulder, even Chain Gourmet. You know, China Gourmet - the one on Broadway that doesn't accept credit cards? Yeah, that's super. Hao Way does have a Chinese Menu, and they can do CHINESE Chinese. You have to ask for the menu. I had their Mabo Tofu, and was pleased. I've been there dozens of times (mainly because my Karate Dojo is right next door) and I've not been disappointed. Nor have I been sick from their food. If you want good chinese in town, and don't want to pay an arm and a leg, try this place out. But don't get the deep fried foods, you American fool. Try something more palatable, like something stir-fried in a Wok. Yes, that's right. Not all Chinese food is deep fried and served with a sickly sweet sauce. Got really nauseas after eating and called them and sure enough they use MSG. If you don't like MSG, AVOID!!! There's no place for MSG in boulder. I feel awful after eating their food. read more

Great funky little hole in the wall chinese place. The owners (husband and wife) are great people and have raised their two kids in the store over the years. Here are our faves for dinner: - hot n sour soup - curry chicken - sesame chicken - and the dumplings! Get em fried or steamed, we never seem to order enough!
