When I was growing up, some evenings my parents would bring back takeout/prepared food from a local grocery store (shoutout to Kam Sam Supermarket). The food here reminds me of that! Good dishes that are hard for E to make at home with interesting flavor and a wide array of ingredients. The Kongxincai (Chinese water spinach) is hard to get so I am always happy to have the veggies here. They have a lot of takeout business but we prefer to go and sit down, and we try a few new items off their traditional menu each time! Seems the search for consistently good Chinese food in Boulder continues. This spot has been the best to-date but yesterday's order was not great. It was "OK" but do not order the BBQ spare rib appetizer. For $10, you get 6-7 little sections of chopped-up rib ends. Essentially the same amount of meat you'd get on one, maybe two whole ribs. They really need to change the description and charge 50% less. read more

Overall: I keep coming back because it's dependable. Both authentic and Americanized Chinese food options on the menu. Best to dine in. The name of this place is actually Jin Chan Zhang. Food: Since stumbling upon this place when I moved here in the summer, I've tried at least 1/3 of the menu, some of those dishes I've ordered quite a few times. I'll name my favorite repeats: -Hot & sour soup: Good balance between savory and sour. Generous with the ingredients so it's not just soy sauce, vinegar, and water. -Stir fry rice cakes: includes stir fried veggies. The rice cakes are made in house. The texture is nice and chewy like udon but in an oval shape. -Fish with sour cabbage: Home-y soup and not overly salted. I'm partial to anything sour or with pickled veggies. -Chengdu dry chili chicken: Peppery. It's hard not to like something fried, especially when it's done well and the meat is not dried out. -General Tao's/Tso's chicken: I usually avoid Americanized Chinese food. However, this is my friend's go-to dish so I get to try it everywhere. Surprisingly, this is good here. The sauce, how the meat is fried, and the chicken meat quality is good too. -Eggplant hotpot with pork: A bit oily but I love mixing my rice with the eggplant as like a sauce -Peking duck w/ steamed buns: I wouldn't compare this to what you'd get in a major city but I'd say it's worth paying more than ordering the crispy duck or salted duck on the menu if you're craving duck. It has more meat. Service: Quick especially when there's usually only two people. Quiet and not super chatty but always polite. Vibe: It's small with limited seating. Most people do takeout here. I prefer dine-in to eat it fresh and I like the casual, quiet atmosphere. read more

Let's begin with a big WOW! I'm visiting from out of state. Saw the reviews so I came to see for myself and compare to my favorite place back home. The food was delicious and got my money's worth. I ordered the following: Vegetable Egg Roll (perfect) Kung Pao Chicken (savory) Pork Lo Mein (delicious) Orange Chicken (mouth watering) Spicy Stir-fry chicken w/peanuts (exquisite) It's better than the one back at home! Completely unbiased opinion--we just moved to Boulder from Florida. Where we lived, there wasn't good Asian cuisine and pretty much everyone went to PF Changs. One of the most authentic Chinese places I've ever gone! Stopped by with my parents who are from Sichuan, and they devoured the food. First of all, I was greeted with a rude, inconvenienced attitude. I ordered a dish and asked for no bell peppers as the food was for my 80 year old mother who made it through open heart surgery and this was what she was craving for her first meal, Secondly, they said they didn't have pan fried noodles so I ordered the regular ones. I also asked for house sweet and sour. As I arrived at my mothers hospital room and unpacked the food, there were no noodles at all, and the vegetables were FULL of bell peppers! I can understand that mistakes happen, but when I called them to explain what happened, just for the fact that the woman was SO rude to me, she absolutely denied it and wanted to fight about it. I hung up on her. I'll NEVER go back there again. Attitude goes a long way with me because I'm a nice person, and not at all picky. But the one thing I HATE is rudeness! The orange chicken was mushy and bready. The beef broccoli barely had any beef in it. Pretty bad, even for a cheap Chinese place.

Having sampled a fair selection of food from here, I would say this might be the literal middle ground when it comes to Chinese food in Boulder. Half of the dishes are good, and half of them are not that great. Doesn't seem to be a big correlation to the time of day either, but we typically have ordered for lunch and delivery. To start, the appetizers and soups are very hit or miss and don't have a huge level of consistency. The wonton soup which tends to be my works goto favorite is either very strong in the flavor of black pepper, or like straight chicken broth kind of flavor. The wontons themselves are actually pretty good however being nice and big, but the broth needs some work. The Crab cheese wontons/rangoon is actually really good and you get a little cup of sweet n sour with your meals which is also a big plus for me. We have mostly narrowed down the really good dishes to the General's Chicken and Szechuan Chicken, with Orange Chicken coming in to a close second. One of my personal favorites which is the Cashew Chicken, and the Mongolian Beef are actually fairly unappetizing and bland. On another note leading to the hit or miss with this food is that the meat will either be very tender or like chewing on rubber. It's not overcooked its just the quality of the meat and how old it is makes it very fibrous and hard. Delivery we have never had any issues with them getting our orders right, or delivering things on time that has always been good. Also a pretty big fan of their rice which isn't ever overcooked and mushy. Its got a nice firmness to it like you'd find in sushi rice, and doesn't have that city water taste that sometimes likes to linger on some rice from other places. Overall this is a pretty middle ground place for Chinese, and there are certainly several more options available but if you don't want old lingering food from Panda Express, this is on the same level but made fresh for you. read more

I've been looking for a place like this since i came back from a visit to China. The owner/operator/hostess/cashier/busboy/waitress was out of this world awesome. Genuine, friendly & gracious. Great menu including some hard to find Chinese dishes. I got kung-pao chicken lunch special - came with rice and an egg roll. SUPERB! Best i've ever had. Also ordered the meat buns which were also outstanding. Prices are super reasonable as well - couldn't ask for a better experience all around. The steamed short rib plate looked like dog food. the food was microwaved. the meat was old and dry. when i asked to trade my plate the lady at the counter said no. my plate was untouched and they refused to refund my money as well. i spent $60 ordered wontons, miso soup and seaweed salad , everything tasted old and microwaved. I love the lunch special! Very good deal and super great food. I actually had take out for Christmas dinner from here, and it was amazing. The employees are nice and courteous, and I've never had an issue with my food. Food comes out fast and fresh! I truly love supporting local restaurants and will usually give them a few chances, we all have off days. However, in this case I must not recommend. The Mongolian beef tasted nothing like it should, it was just bland, and to be honest looked and tasted more like pork than beef. Orange and sesame chicken had very little chicken with many pieces consisting entirely of dough. My mom was literally dissecting them to try and find chicken. The scallion pancakes were soaked in oil and flavor less. The only decent item was the lo mein which again, was just decent. sad,sad, sad... This place had been open in Boulder for at least 15 years if not more. It used to be housed inside the Asian market, and then moved next door to the market. Their menu was on photocopied papers that were laminated and back in the day it was cool to order and see the people making your food. They used to have tables right in the market where you could eat your food. My favorite thing they had were their spring rolls and their special dipping sauce that went with it. I really can't talk about the food quality. I am here to warn other VEGETARIANS like myself that you should NOT trust the menu when it doesn't include meat in the dish in the description. I admittedly should've checked with a brand new place, but usually, one does well in Boulder. I also should've known...Chinese food is notorious for putting pork with tofu. (I've been to China many times for work) ... I ordered a few dishes that didn't state they had meat, and they came out to go with meat. :( Descriptions online or in hand out menu do not say additional descriptions. PLEASE, vegetarians, ASK before you buy. I was disappointed. I got a tofu soup and mushroom and bamboo dish and both had meat. Just be careful. Did Italy have noodles before Marco Polo brought them back from China? I dropped my car at the oil change place and had a hankering for beef noodle soup. Jin Chan is a block away. I handed the guy my keys and walked into a full lunch crowd. I ordered and it came right out piping hot. This us a walk to order place, but the food is served. I've trued beef noodle soup elsewhere in tiwn. This is the best, IMO, for $8.95, lots of beef, bok choi, peas and mushrooms in a good broth. Chow fun must be lasagne noodles. read more

The new owners show a love for good food above and beyond expected. They really put passion into their cooking. They serve better food than Zoe Ma Ma and at much better prices. One pork bun at Zoe Ma Ma is $2.79 and Jin Chan has 3 buns for $3.95. ***********R.I.P Asian Deli******************* I went to eat here today (April 24th) and out of nowhere, it is gone! It is being replaced by Jin Chan, which I never liked, so today is a very sad day. I leave the review in the Asian Deli's memory..... This place is definitely funky digs, but I do love to go here from time to time. My favorite is this egg roll noodle dish, which is, well- a bit undescribable, but all about texture. The Pho is GREAT. The owner is very friendly. I pretty much have the taste bud for pho and a good company made it a great experience. I got the special combination pho, and eggrolls. One of my favorite restaurants - I eat there regularly for lunch and dinner with friends. The menu has a lot of variety without being confusing, the owner and staff are friendly, and the prices are very inexpensive. The menu isn't limited to Chinese food. They have a very passable pho style soup, and several "bowl" meals - I recommend the Super Bowl. They have the best Asian barbecue ribs in town, and I regularly order the duck. For an appetizer, try the calamari salad. It is truly delicious, and while the sesame balls (filled with sweet bean paste) are listed as an appetizer, I always get them for dessert. And no, you don't have to order at the counter (although you can - it is a take-out restaurant as well) - you are waited on at the table if you dine in. read more

I eat here once a month with co-workers and it's a good cheap place to grab some asian food during lunch. I generally get the huge bowl of pho which is only about 5 or 6. I'd recommend getting the medium size unless you are very hungry. Both the service and food are good. read more

Absolutely the best General Tsao's Chicken in the area. They fry it up just perfectly so it has a crispy shell and just the right amount of sauce. Meh. This place used to be good when they were where Maharaja's restaurant is. They closed down for a couple of years, then opened up again where the old Vietnamese hole-in-the-wall restaurant used to be on 28th near the asian food market. Now, they've gone completely downhill. The same sweet lady no longer runs the front of the dining room, and the crotchety old man is taking your order. The dining room is 1/5 the size of what it used to be, and the quality of their food has suffered greatly. Not going back for a while. And Jin Chan USED to be my regular Chinese restaurant favorite. My husband and I tried this place out one night when we were struck with a massive craving for noodles. We ordered from the authentic Chinese menu and were pleased with the results. After living in China for a few months, my husband was transported back in time as he took his first bite. The owners here are very sweet and checked on us often. Awful! We ordered delivery and it took an hour, fine, at least the food was hot. We each ordered an entree with a side of fried rice and I ordered egg rolls and he ordered pork rolls. I really hate pork. We also ordered cream cheese wontons. They combined our rice into one container, even though they weren't ordered as one. Also there were literally no vegetables, no flavor, no egg. It was just normal rice with some weak soy sauce (I can only assume because of the color). Then they combined the rolls. None of them were pork like we ordered. The wontons had nothing in them and they were burnt. But we got about five things of sweet and sour sauce. Awful! I would not recommend this place. They need separate containers for separate orders. It's not that complicated. If I had ordered this in person I would demand my money back, but I got it through hungry Buffs so I'm not going to deal with that. But I will not be eating their bland, pathetic excuse for food. read more
