Decided to stop in for a late lunch on a Sunday. Never been here before so I didn't know what I was expecting. Let's start with the cons. 1st off, it would be an order at the counter but they try their hardest to have you get a table and order off your phone, with QR codes everywhere. I had it ready to order off my phone and then it wanted only Google pay, which I don't have hook up to any card. So we had to redo the order on my husband phone. There was not cashier or anyone to ask questions to, not even a greeting when we walked in. When checking out, it automatically asked for 20% tip, I have no waiter or anyone to talk to, why the tip request? Order a couple of things which came out at different times. I did see the sign saying expect 20-25 mins per meal, with it being quite dead in the place I figured our two dumpling orders would at least come out together. I was already done with my meal when my husband's came out. The bathroom! Come on! Not the fact you have to walk through a storage room to get to it, the fact it was so poorly stocked. No toilet paper, paper towels couldn't be in the wall container, but stacked high where a small adult like myself could barely reach it, let alone a kid. Two wall soap dispensers neither were filled, the store bought soap on the sink was almost out. Now why would you say it got three stars? The pan fried dumplings were huge and you got 10 pieces per order. The soup dumplings were good but got super sticky when I tried to wait to eat before the others came out. Pancakes app were great especially with vinegar. Would have appreciated maybe a green onion ginger sauce to be a topper options for the dumplings. I love that Mason's Dumplings has a location out in Boulder! I enjoyed the big windows, and getting to see the main street from inside the restaurant. We walked in, scanned the menu bar code, ordered, and paid everything online. The staff were very kind and were very responsive to my requests as well. I still enjoy the interior of the location up in Aurora the most but I plan to visit this location in Boulder more often since it's closer. read more

The food was really quite good! My favorites were the yuzu chicken soup dumplings and the baby bok Choy. I've never had soup dumplings and it was so fun to slurp! I think I waited too long to eat a couple because they got stuck to the bottom of the pan and tore open but I think that was my bad. I wish I knew how they made the bok Choy because it was tender and flavorful without being overpowering. We also tried the vegan soup dumplings which were delicious but they didn't have that liquid inside the way the chicken was. This is definitely a place you go for a no nonsense meal. The service was meh. You seat yourself, use a QR code to order, and they bring out your food to you. I thought it was a little odd they suggest a minimum 18% tip when you order, prior to receiving any service (and the service was very minimal). They have a cute self-serve water station, some drink options, but no alcohol. I have a feeling the vibe depends on who is working because the music was fun but the service was lackluster. i will be honest, i did not have high expectations for this place considering the fact that colorado does not have the best asian food scene but this place exceeded my expectations. located as a business under apartment complexes, it is small & unassuming at first. it is self seating, & you order on your phone which is nice. i think you only go to the front for to-go orders & takeout. food: satisfied my cravings during this trip!! we ordered the beef bowl, xlb, & custard buns! the beef bowl was delicious, the meat was rich in flavor & not too chewy. the sauce from the meat complimented the fluffy white rice under. xlb was hot & the broth inside was flavorful. went so well with the soy sauce & vinegar ratio. for dessert we got all custard buns! i believe the default sweet buns were 2 red bean + 2 custard but i am a custard girly. read more

I'm giving 4 stars because this is pretty much the only place you can get decent dumplings in Boulder. It's really only a 3 compared to dumplings you can get in Denver. I've had the Mason's in Aurora and for some reason, was also better than this location. The soup dumplings are on the dry side and the soup isn't very aromatic or flavorful. The pan fried dumplings are also just okay. Skip the shu mai's unless you're really craving them. The chili oil doesn't have much spice. I mixed 4 heaping spoons into my soy sauce for a little kick. Ordering is easy. Scan a QR code at the table or order at the counter. Food takes a while, at least 20 minutes so expect to wait. If you have a dumpling fix and are in Boulder, this place is alright. read more

They serve mainly Taiwanese food, I wouldn't say it's authentic but still taste good and the service was excellent. The cashier was friendly and helpful when we asked a few questions. It's very casual dining, with a few tables that are spacious and not too crowded in between. Overall, it was very clean inside. They are quite busy, when I was there. I saw a lot of take out orders in addition to the customers already eating. The prices are pretty decent and the portions are generous. There were also interesting new menu items on the blackboards near the register. I'd probably would have ordered them had I seen photos like their regular menu items. Mason's Dumpling Shop makes some tasty dumplings and unfortunately is one of the few dumpling places in Boulder. The steamed soup dumplings were tasty but the dough seemed a bit thicker than I am used to or have eaten in S.F. The pork dumplings were absolutely delicious. The person I went to lunch with said her beef noodle soup was amazing and the bite I had was indeed pretty great. I am excited to take my next trip there and try some other dishes! read more

The ambiance is casual - you order at the counter, but they bring the food and clean your table, and the servers are charming. Each table comes with soy sauce, black vinegar and chili oil for making your own dipping sauce. I recommend getting an appetizer because the dumplings regularly take 15 minutes to come out. We love the bao bbq pork buns. The seaweed salad is not like Japanese seaweed salad. It is more like chewy shoestrings, but I loved its weirdness and... it's kind of addictive. My 7 year old, however, did not enjoy the spicychili-vinegar sauce on the seaweed. She loved the edamame, which is cooked to steamed crunchy perfection and not salted. The pan fried pork dumplings always come out hot and flavorful. The soup dumplings are full of broth. It's hard not to leave stuffed. I need to go back to try everything else on the menu and I'm already looking forward to it! read more

I'm so happy that Mason's has a Boulder location! I found out today they opened about 1 year ago. I discovered Mason's Aurora during the pandemic and have only had takeout. It's so much better eating dumplings warm inside the restaurant. We ordered steamed beef and pork belly buns, steamed crab and pork soup dumplings (XLB), and chive pockets with pork, egg, and glass noodle. The taste of the XLB was 10/10, but I agree with the other reviewers that the dumpling skin is a little thick. I also think the soup spoon were too small for the size of the dumpling. My ultimate favorite was the chive pockets with pork, egg, and glass noodle. This was sooo yummy! I'll definitely be back for these. Atmosphere - 3.5/5 stars. If I'm eating dumplings this price point, I would prefer a cozier interior. Also, there is only paid street parking. We had to park a block away. One time just before 2pm on Sunday to find that the restaurant was closing at 2pm and would only sell appetizers take out or anything that does not require cooking time. So I left and went again the next day a little earlier around 1:40pm (due to my work schedule). This time luckily I could order the dumplings but unfortunately not allowed to eat in store as they are closing at 2pm. So I ordered take out. I just wanted to update my review. Get the beef noodle soup bowl. It is incredible, flawless. The broth, the braised beef, the noodles, the bok choy, the radish garnish slices, the size of the serving. But it was much more crowded today, better weather for sure. And even at lunch, parking was scarce. We walked a few blocks from an area that had free street parking instead of the close by Pay and Park system which was totally full. It was still a search to find that spot that far away. If you can get there anyway other than with a car, do yourself a favor and do it. It was not an option for us and had we not found that spot, we would have come back another day and tried an earlier time. They definitely had adequate staff which was nice and the food was ready in an appropriate length of time. This review is really just for the beef noodle soup because it's perfect. I've had a few of the dumplings here and tried the beef buns, but the noodles are why I come back. The meat is tender and flavorful. The broth is packed with spices. There's sweet and refreshing slices of what looks like a yellow radish that pairs perfectly. Idk what the chefs are doing back there but, please don't stop. I've never been to this restaurant before and I didn't know quite what to order so I asked what would be good recommendations from Cleo. This place has pretty good dumpling! The pan fried dumplings had a great crisp too them and the fillings were very flavorful. Went great with the chili sauce. Only wish it had a little more filling in it, sometimes it was just air between meat and dough. Xiao long bao came out steaming hot and was definitely my favorite here. It was flavorful and packed with soup! One of the better XLB I've had in CO for sure. As for the beef bun, they are definitely generous with the meat portion. As someone who have been starved from good Chinese food in the DC area, Mason's really hit the spot when my friend and I stopped by this past Wednesday for dinner. The Boulder location seemed fairly new with minimal/sleek seating and modern interior, and not anything like the hole-in-the-wall, mom-and-pop shop we were expecting. Compared the where we're from, the pricing here was more than fair. STEAMED SOUP DUMPLINGS (8 PCS.) - 13 It's a bit expensive to be paying more than $1.50 per soup dumpling, but for once, the XLBs here actually looked right. Overall, my friend and I were quite impressed by the flavor of the pork and the soup. It was delicious and satisfying to finally enjoy a tasty XLB. Our complaint is that there wasn't enough soup and the dumpling skin was too thick, taking away the finer delicacies of what XLB should be like. Definitely worth ordering if you're craving some good XLBs and you're not too concerned about the price or thick skin. SMALL BOK CHOY WITH OYSTER SAUCE- 6.50 I got this appetizer because I need more vegetables, lol. And boy, it came with a lot of bok choy, more than I expected! It was delicious with the broth, which was pretty clean and didn't dry out our mouths too much (so probably not a crap ton of MSG). Overall, I thought this was fantastic and would recommend it for sure. I've been deprived of good Chinese food so I'm happy I was able to get my Chinese food fix in Boulder, which I most definitely did not expect. I saw other people getting a couple appetizers (Seaweed Salad in Chili & Garlic Sauce, Wood Ear Mushrooms, Flavors Stewed Bean Curd) that looked really tasty and wish my stomach was big enough to fit everything. Slow (at least they tell you up front), fresh ingredients delivered with flavors devoid of any memorable impact, vibrancy, or nuance. I did get a mountain of cold mushroom salad. Not bad at all, just another example of choosing an uninspired path with good ingredients. The table top sesame sauce leaves one feeling like they've contracted COVID or had a mild stroke. You see the food go into your mouth but cannot actually taste it. If you enjoy the thoughtfully bland food all over Boulder you will love it. Another place where quality ingredients go to die a bland, unimaginative death. I don't regret the meal...it's just that my napkin will be equally memorable 3 days from now.
