Braden took time with us to help us choose the right boards for our first purchase of SUPS. Other than renting them several times, we knew nothing about which ones would be appropriate for us. Braden was awesome. Patient and informative, not pushy at all. He even helped us get them onto the car and showed us how to strap them down properly. My family calls it the "flip-flop super store". Having a size 13 foot is a bit of a curse when it comes to having choices when it comes to footwear. We recently purchased two pairs of ski boots as well as a pair of skis. I have shopped at Hansen's for over 25 years, primarily for my sons who are now in their 30's. I have always been impressed with their great selection of clothing/shoes as well as their customer service. However, this week I went in to check out their selection of ladies swim suits. Immediately I was assisted by an outstanding sales person...Sandra. She was absolutely incredible!! I am not joking, I seriously tried on at least 20 suits & she was so helpful running back & forth getting different sizes & styles. I never had to leave the dressing room. My girl and I were shopping for some summer clothes at six on a weekday when the sales rep told us they were closing and insinuated we should hurry up. We left without buying anything. First of all, who chases customers away? Yeah you're a big store with lots of product, but F you! There's what 4-10 other shops with a stone's throw from your shop that would gladly have my money. Second, you're not the post office or a bank. So why are you closing at six pm? I realize Encinitas shuts down at 9 and the sun's up til 8 now and you probably want to get in the water as much as I do, but deal with it. It's called WORK. Overall, a very poor experience and with cuter, friendlier sales reps at every other shop on PCH, this place FAILS. read more

A big box style retailer that some how pulls it off. You'd expect them to be a step from Ross, but they seem to keep it local. The staff that helped was knowledgeable and happy to help. I want to take the time to update my last review. I have since been quickly contacted by the store and decided to make another visit in this week. I found people to be more friendly and even had someone smile while asking if they could help me find anything. I still can't bring myself to pay the prices on the kids stuff since my daughter will outgrow her clothes in about a month but I did notice a couple of sale racks in the back men's section. This store is huge!! Can't speak for the store as a whole because I only went in for a watch (although I will be returning for other items). When I went in I found my way to the back of the store where Nixon has its own little room and I was promptly greeted by Patty. She was extremely helpful. I have wide wrists and so normal watches don't fit, she offered to add links to it to accommodate. She continued to add links until it felt right. She was so patient with me and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit thanks to her. I only went in to see if the band fit my wrist and then was going to buy it online but she sold me right there. It would have been nice if one of the dozen or so employees even said hello this morning. My husband went in to check out snowboards and he walked through the whole store, stood watching everybody talking to each other. He stood there for a few minutes and Nothing! Not even a hi. The fact that they are a family owned and operated shop since they started makes me like it even more. Has all your surfing needs in a nice building split into several different sections. The store employees were super helpful and know their local scene well and gave heads up about the scene. They have a super extensive quill and inventory/selection of boards. They even carry boards for big boys like me...5'10" 240lbs! The staff know what they are talking about and were super helpful...if they didnt have an answer they went out to seek someone that could answer with accuracy (no half baked answers). This place is exceptional. We rented skis and boots for the weekend and they didn't charge us day of pick up or day of return. They didn't have regular skis available in my size, so they offered me a demo pair and didn't charge me extra. The staff are friendly and attentive. I had an amazing experience at the repair shop this week. Brian took in my skis that were beyond repair and cleaned them up to look new (ok, well almost new). He was so helpful, got them back to me before the original quote, and offered to help me to my car. I couldn't have been more pleased with the service and left Hansen's a happy girl! The team in the ski shop is the shnizle. They mounted my ski bindings and waxed my skis in less than 48 hours. This is meaningful because all the others in town were going to take over a week. If you need work done on your skis these guys are great. read more

I just spent an hour and a half getting fit for ski boots and I was completely dreading it. But Ken at Hansen's made the experience incredibly rewarding. He was very patient in answering all of my obnoxious, newbie questions and really helped me understand the process of picking out ski boots which is something I've never done before. I also witnessed him tell a customer who was thinking of getting newer (and what he thought would be warmer) boots, that the best way to go was to get boot warmers which probably saved the guy about $600. It showed his integrity which gave me confidence he was giving me good, solid advice as well. I highly recommend Hansen's for anyone thinking of getting new ski equipment! read more
