Came the other day because I was looking with my friends for a place we could rent skis in near San Diego, and this was the only location that was coming up online. I called and asked if you could rent at that location and I was greeted and transferred to the rental phone line. At first the man who answered was kind and helpful but when I asked if you need to be 18 or have an adult sign something in order to rent, and I was surprised when I heard the man laugh at me. He told me yes you do and laughed on. Not sure what was so funny. I come the next day to rent skis with my friend and I was met by an awesome dog that was roaming the store and woman who said hello. I was looking for the ski rental place and asked another worker how do I rent and he guided me over to the rental place where I was to be helped by another employee. A man walks out and I ask is there where we rent skis? And he says yes..... and that's about it. We stare at him for a few more seconds and I finally ask if we can rent some. He says sure but they're limited on their supply and he'll go look. He walks over and asks my friend a couple questions. He's where the big problem started. Automatically from the very beginning the man talks down in a condescending way to my friend asking him what kind of skier he is and redundantly assuming his skill level. My friend answers his questions but the man treats us like we're 12 year olds. We are willing to pay customers and your store treats us like we're just kids. I could go to Mcdonalds and be treated with more respect than your employee gave us. Eventually the man gets a pair of skis for my friend and says that they'll work and then he brings over a pair of skis for me that we're obviously extremely too small for me and tells me that those might work but they're really small for me. (The skis were about upper chest level on me which is extremely small for me and any skier) so he says that's all he's got in store and asked what we're going to do. I talk to my friend and we sit there for a few more minutes and decide well do it whatever but not without asking for any more skis. The man asks us in a rushed and angry tone "so what's the deal? You guys gonna rent or not?" And we ask him are there any other skis? Because I could not use the skis he was suggesting for me. He sighs and points to another pair and says "I mean you could use those over there if you want...". I walk over and pick them up and they're perfectly sized for me. Why didn't he give me these before? Why didn't he suggest these? I said sure I'll use these. We walk over and fill out some paperwork. On the rental paperwork it asks us what kind of skier are we and there was a poster on the wall of the counter that told us what it said so we read it and found out what type we were. The man walks over and says "You guys know that you don't look at the skis to find out which ski level you are. Do you know what that is?" And I say "we weren't looking at the skis we were looking at the poster." And he responds with "oh thought you were staring at the skis". Again, treatment like we're not paying customers, with little respect and a rude attitude. Next, My friend tells the man that there's a bump in his shoe and the man just says "okay. That's all we have, so..." and he doesn't even care to look at it. This is what I mean by he treated us like we were just 12 year old kids who don't know anything. Finally he sets us up and we're about ready to leave but we don't have any ski poles just the boots and skis and we don't say anything because we thought he would say something so we stood there and he's says "oh yeah, you guys need poles, here you go" hands us the poles and we're out of the store. I am 17 years old and so was my friend but we were treated like we were just simpleminded children with no knowledge of anything. I hope that you change the way your employee treats his customers because when you make a customer feel that way it discourages them from coming back. It can hurt them especially when you're alienated from the other customers because you don't look like an adult. It's really unfortunate to know that the dog gets more care and respect than we did in our visit to Hansens. read more

I received outstanding customer service from Squeezy and Ken at Hansens. They were able to custom order a body board for my Grandson and have it in my hands within one week - which made it possible for me to give it to him on his birthday. The service they provided me and the way they went above and beyond to ensure I received the board in time was exceptional. read more

Came in, got greeted quickly when I walked in and as soon as I hit the back where the boards are Evan asked if I needed help. He put the new leash on the new stick, put the sock on and even helped me put the straps on my Jeep. Thanks for going out of your way dude, I appreciate it. I'll be back because of service like this, thank you! read more

Hansen Surfboards - Women's Clothing Near Me - Encinitas, California

I love this store! We moved away a couple of years ago but whenever we're in town we make a pilgrimage to our favorite shop. Super friendly staff, great styles and great quality clothes - we need you to open up a store in NorCal! read more

This is great board shop. Lucas and Frankie are great and really helped me choose the the best board for my needs. I was also impressed with their prices and overall selection compared to other places in San Diego county. I plan on buying second board here soon and one for my son so he can learn. read more

Exceptional customer service - above and beyond! Squeely was so knowledgeable in helping me select a hard board for my son. His knowledge is second to none plus he went above and beyond and waxed the board. He gave my son a tutorial on how to wax the board and what wax to use. We decided to put a foam pad on a couple days later and he cleaned the board and applied the pad. You just don't find service like this anymore! Highly recommend Hansen's ask for Squeely-you won't be disappointed! read more

BEST place down here for snowboarding gear....especially the newest styles in jackets and accessories for women.Really good selection! I could spend hours in here (and have!) Also has quite a lot of Tommy Bahama....my Dad's favorite...and that saves me trips all the way to La Jolla for Fathers Day and birthdays. read more

Four stars for caring about customer service. As an update, I received a quick response from Hansen's Surf shop apologizing for the experience I wrote about initially. Kudos to the store for reaching out to customers to try to improve our experiences. That's all you can really ask for. So in summary, if you have a negative experience bring it to someones attention because they need the opportunity to make changes where changes are needed. Based on the response I received, the owners genuinely want you to enjoy your shopping experience. read more

LOVE Hansen's! I love shopping here for super cute dresses, tops, shoes and etc. Hansen's has something for everyone at any age. They have the best selection of mens and women's clothing. Their inventory moves fast so if you see it, most likely it won't be there when you come back. If you love something they have but don't have it in your size, they will always special order it for you and it usually arrives to the store fast. Amazing customer service and fair pricing on clothes. read more

Never have I experienced such HORRIBLE service. Had bikini top in my hand. Looking for bottoms. Was surrounded by 4 female associates who were so concerned with showing each other what they were wearing for the website's photo shoot that they couldn't be bothered to help. Needless to say, I won't be back. read more

We just moved here and we were really looking forward to checking out this store. We are in the market for two stand up paddle boards and my boyfriend wanted to pick up a skateboard.... We aren't very educated when it comes to either sports so we were looking for someone to explain the differences in boards, pros and cons, and help us pick out the best boards for our needs. First we asked someone to help us pick out a longboard skate board. The first guy said he couldn't explain the differences to us but would get someone who could. The next guy was about as helpful as the first. We told him we don't know anything about them and just wanted to pick something up for a beginner. He told us about the trucks? on the board and thats about it. He left us standing there with out actually helping us out. After looking around a bit more we moved into the surfboard section. We wandered around checking them out for about ten minutes. No one came over to help us out or ask if we had questions. I suggested leaving then... if we're going to drop two grand at your store and no one can take a minute to help us out- I don't want to give you the money. My boyfriend wanted to stick it out and ended up going to the counter to get one of the three people standing behind it to come help us. Unfortunately the guy who "helped" us with the skateboard volunteered. He was slightly more helpful in kind of describing the differences in the boards to us. We spelled it out quite easily. We want two stand up surfboards. Top of the line and would like to bring it back to NY to use on lakes in a few years. After rambling on and giving no real helpful information/advice he told us to look up stuff online. Needless to say this is the last place I'm going to spend my money at. We made it pretty easy for a sale. Tell us what we want, why we want it and why its quality equipment and we'll take it. Apparently that was difficult for a sales guy...? read more

My favorite surf shop here in San Diego. Even though I live in PB, anytime I need surfing hard and soft goods, this is where I go. The staff are really great and helpful without being pushy "salespeople." I've bought my last two boards and wetsuits from here and the employees were really well-informed and helpful. Well worth the 40 minutes of drive time to get there. read more

HUGE store, full of high quality clothing, shoes and sports gear. Very very good customer service.

These guys at Hansens really value there customers! I had a bad experience looking for a new surf board here. Word got back to one if the managers/buyers named Mike. He went out of his way to help me on my next purchase and gave me a sweet discount to boot! I plan on keeping my surf board purchase business here even if it's out of way from my house! read more

It's fun to go here. The staff is super nice and they always have a lot of everything you want. Great selection of cute clothes. Drawback- expensive. read more

The husband wanted to go to Ron Jon's. We aren't in Florida, buddy. There ain't no Ron Jon's in California..lol. So we passed this surf shop going to Oceanside and on the way down we stopped. It's a surf shop, so it has your typical beach and surf name brands like Roxy and Hurley. Plenty of swim suits as well. Surfboards.. I think they had more surfboards than any Ron Jon I ever been in. Nice store. read more

Hansen's are still taking my money. I have tried shopping around, but the prices here are just as good as anywhere else and most of the time the service is good. read more

Great shop! Everything you need in one place... And if they don't carry what you're looking for they'll help you find it. Great place to really feel the local spirit of the community too. read more

Great selection of items but very little to no customer service. Not even a free bar of wax for the purchase of a new suit.

They have a large selection of boards, wetsuits, swimsuits, and other beach-style clothing + accessories. Folks working in the surfboards and wetsuit sections are super nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. The ones near the women's clothing sections and the cashiers, not so much. :X read more

Loved the women's section and had a very large selection of guys attire as well. Can't comment on the equipment since I don't surf but general beach attire selection was great. Lots of cute things and great shoe section. read more

If you need a snowboard repair this is great place to go. I actually checked a couple other places out to price out an edge replacement for my brother's snowboard and also a minor repair for mine. This place definitely was the cheapest. Their employees were knowledgeable about what repairs were available and honest about their recommendations and pricing. read more

I come here every now and then for swim, surf, or snow stuff. Their collection and options are great with lots of variety. The prices tend to be high and on the boutique side. If you can shop during a sale, I highly recommended it. That being aside, I do like the people and the service. It's worth a try. read more

I love Hansen's Surf Shop! What do you mean it doesn't count if I haven't entered the store - of course it counts! I shopped online and that certainly counts for EVERYTHING these days. Hey, I saw the shop pictures my fellow Yelpers have posted online and if you want my honest opinion (as I know you do!) it really does look like every other surf shop I have visited, so what's the difference. The difference at Hansen's Surf shop is that the staff know the true definition of customer service (unlike some places that I can't wait to Yelp about...) and that is to assist the customer - that would be me. Ok, so with the numerous hours of free time I now have - work hours, that is - and in a rare OCD moment I found myself surfing the internet and just happened to stumble upon Hansen's surf shop. It's funny how one kind of surfing could lead me to another kind of surfin and alot of fun was had by all involved - namely me. So while perusing the aisles of cool 'surf' wear (there's that word again) I found an awesomely hip top that I just had to have, but of course my size was oh so sold out. You know I would normally just more onward and upward and check out other stuff (and I did that) but this was not about WANT anymore, it was about NEED, and I needed that top. I searched surf sites far and wide and could not find it anywhere so I decided to email customer service at Hansen's. I know this may seem a little crazy, but this time it worked and within seconds (ok, 25 mins - just a slight exaggeration) the red light was flashing on my blackberry! Yep, they have more tops in stock, but do they have my size? Seconds later (yes, really) another email - Yes! Aja - the sweetest sales rep I have ever encountered - even offered to work the website so I could purchase it online, but I decided to make the toll free call and make it easier on her. So to end a very long story, the merchandise is in the UPS truck as we speak and Faithy is a happy camper. read more

What a great weekend you are going to have shopping and taking surf lessons from Hansens. The staff is so friendly, they seem really genuine to steer you to the goods that make you look cool or surf cool. You cannot go wrong and will be glad you stopped in. Cute sundresses, hats, sandals, board shorts with cool graphics and surf boards always on sale. Huge selection of goods, real nice people. read more

Triple kudos to Patti in Hansen's Boardroom! We bought a wetsuit for our son for Xmas. It didn't fit quite right so we returned it to Hansens to exchange it for a different one. When Hansens was not able to get his size in the new wetsuit he chose, Patti called around to local surfshops looking for one. She found his size at Surf Ride in Solana Beach and had them hold it for our son until we could pick it ip. All that effort by Patti and she didn't even get the sale! Now that's A+ service! Thank you Hansens. You make buying locally a pleasure. read more

On Sunday I found two great sweaters. However when the man at the register entered the amounts, one came up at more than double the amount I saw on the tag. Bringing this to the Cashier/Manager's attention caused a flurry of activity to determine the correct amount. It was discovered that the tag had two amounts, one Hansen's and the other the manufacture's. The correct amount (of course) was the higher one. As the discussion/debate among the employees continued the man at the register made it clear that I would be given the lower price . I knew that meant no profit and possibly a loss for the business (it was over $50.00. I was impressed. They may have lost some money on the sale but they gained a loyal and vocal customer. It is a great store with a surprising array of unique items. I have purchased a number of items there (in only two visits) each of which has received compliments, plus it is great to support local businesses. Hansen's is wonderful, great selection, good quality and most importantly a store you can trust. One who pays more than lip-service to caring about their customers! read more

Came in to get skis, had incredible help from George. He was very knowledgeable and steered me in the right direction. He helped me get boots as well and help me get sticks then they were able to do a rush on putting on the bindings the same day. Great work from everybody read more

Hansen's is the place to go if you're looking for the latest surfing fashion at standard/high prices. Their prices are high, but in line with a lot of other shops in the area. They have tons of clothes and a decent selection of actual surf/bodyboard gear as well. Their sidewalk sales are where it's at though, people! Make sure you stop by on a holiday weekend and get yourself some good deals on shirts and stuff. read more

Cool place! Bought a Nixon smart watch for my husband there and they were really helpful and knowledgeable about the product. I will probably go back and spend more time doing some shopping there because there were a lot of cool things to look at. read more

I love this store, my husband loves this store, my 3 yr old loves this store. Why? Because they have stuff for everyone. They are a legit surfs hop - with great variety of boards, wetsuits, wax, and more. They have a great skateshop (from new boards to repairs), and they have GREAT shopping. I mean from basic ts, to designer brand jeans and dresses. Its just fabulous. The service is great - helpful, offering opinions when you want them, happier to take back returns, and patient with the 3 yr old on all the skateboards. Its great. Even better? Go to one of their parking lot sales - I think they have them 2-4 times per year. read more

Pretty stoked with Hansens right now. I had an issue with a wetsuit I received as a gift and Jesse and the Hansens team went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care. Great selection and even better customer service. Thanks Hansen's read more

We were camping down in Carlsbad and my oldest sons wetsuit seemed a little hard for him to get into this year. Went down to Hansen and talked with the guy in the wetsuits and he said no way he should be in a bigger suit. I appreciate honesty!!! He told us a trick about using a plastic grocery bag on your feet and hands and it will help you slip pass the ankle and wrist. It worked great made getting his suit on so quick. Thanks to the young gent that helped me pick out a fin for my girlfriend for Christmas. I don't really surf a longboard much, but my girlfriend does and the staff member there came through in a big way with his recommendation of a Nuuhiwa fin. It ended up being perfect for her board and her desire to nose ride like a champ. Otherwise, I've been there multiple times and each time I have a good experience. read more

Good store, great board selection, they have a very good program letting you try out a few select boards before you buy. If you buy, that money for the rental goes towards the purchase and they will even sell your board for you. I would recommend using craigslist, as you can get more money without the store getting it's commission. There used board selection is not as big as Surfride in Oceanside, but the staff are helpful, the bathroom is nice and there summer spring sales are the bomb. (A great time to stock up on board-shorts...) read more

If you need a hard-to-find surf item, this is your place -- they joined with the RipCurl store next door and are now huge. Especially good if you have a hard-to-size item (for me it was kid's booties). When every other surf shop in the county is out of them, these guys have them. Super-friendly and helpful service to boot! (pun intended :)) read more

My family calls it the "flip-flop super store". Having a size 13 foot is a bit of a curse when it comes to having choices when it comes to footwear. These guys always have many different of flip-flops that fit me and they are not the leftover ugly ones. Lately I have been buying clothing here too. Prices are what you would expect for a surf shop. Friendly staff is always willing to lend a hand. read more

Great local store for all your surf needs, gifts, shoes, fun stuff. They are helpful and generous.
