We chose Hansen Bros for our storage & move because of all the good reviews and despite higher cost. We expected a flawless experience, but ours was a disaster filled with a lot of unnecessary stress and anxiety, and only barely made it on time. If the move experience was not bad enough, customer service is rock bottom. When we contacted the company afterwards to give them a chance to make up, the branch manager wasted our time, gaslighted, questioned whether a 1/5 rating of our experience "aligns with reality", and accused us of "threatening to damage the company's reputation" as if it is our truthful words and not their actions that do that. Incredibly unprofessional to say the least. Re: move itself. When we had called the company for a quote, we were told that our 'account manager' is on vacation and that "waiting a week won't make a difference". The move coordinator was utterly incompetent -- she sent emails to an obviously non-existent address, and she was never proactive updating us. We had to check in with her often to see what the status was -- not something you want to do with a lot on your plate already. She kept mixing up important details throughout, which only added to the anxiety. Our things were loaded 10 days late onto the truck, and we learned that entirely accidentally; the company never informed us of this delay. Supposed to come 8/12-8/25. On 8/14 the coordinator joyfully told us our stuff is coming on 8/29 without even realizing that's late, and it took a lot of back and forth to get the company to deliver on 8/25 which is technically within the promised range but it was incredibly inconvenient due to it being the first day of a nursing program. Had to ask sister who was visiting the US & doesn't speak much English to accept the delivery; and then deal with unpacking everything during the intensive school schedule. Overall bad experience. Would not recommend unless you want to overpay for incompetence, bad service, and extra stress. UPDATE: The comment from the business also contains a lie. Throughout the process, both the account manager and the move coordinator referenced loading date as significant and at no point was it stated that the loading date is a mere placeholder. In fact, the branch manager himself in the most recent email he had sent, stated that "loading was performed as scheduled". When I replied to him to point out that that's not true, I never got a response -- until this public reply where he makes up a new lie. read more

Worst moving experience of my life. The people who picked up my belongings from Kirkland, WA storage looked like homeless people. The women who was wrapping the furniture was completely unfriendly and did not do a good job. Did not even wrap my dining room chairs which had holes in the fabric. Allied said that they fixed these but did not. Then never answered my emails. The guy from Hanson Bros dropped my table and put a giant gash in it. They either stole or lost our tools and several other boxes. They had lost our vaccums and "found" them in their warehouse. When I asked where our Tools box was (with gold and silver in it, of course), they never answered my several emails. You are putting your belongings at risk going with this company, or Allied, who hires them on your behalf. The real kicker is Allied telling me that they fixed my chairs and then never answering my email that they indeed had not. read more

Had a positive experience with Hansen Brothers. They were responsive, accommodating, flexible, communicative and on time. They alerted us to the need to outsource the dismantling of our sleep number bed and the bed frame and coordinated that person's arrival to correspond with the move. The cost included reassembly on the other end. I appreciated their flexibility in updating the quote up until the night before the move as we had more items than anticipated. I was nervous about the need to change trucks to Allied since it was an interstate move and read others' negative experiences, but all items made it to us well within the estimated time frame and nothing was damaged. The Allied driver was communicative, alerting me a few days out of his progress and providing regular updates along the way. He and the mover were mindful of the floors and walls and more than accommodating when it came to putting things where we wanted them. read more

It was easy of course for them to take my money & issue me a contract however it was not easy for them to deliver ONLY 3 real pieces of furniture. I had a TV, a TV stand & a dresser. Prior to pickup, I called Mark & asked was there anything I needed to do to those 3 items to which he told me to just get a tv box for the tv & they'd shrink wrap the tv stand & dresser. There were 4 movers who came to pickup my items & they never shrunk wrap a thing. Fast forward, my belongings show up, the movers don't even want to bring it upstairs but I'm thinking a scuff or 3 so I have them bring it up & it turns out, they completely destroyed my dresser. I called & the most they could offer me was a sorry & sent me to claims. You get to the destroy my belongings with your incompetence while avoiding all accountability. DO NOT USE THEM!!! read more

Moved in April 2022 from Western to Eastern WA. Called Hanson Bros. to schedule an estimate for my very short notice upcoming move (my house sold super fast). Had to call twice due to sales person Paula not returning my call, but eventually got it scheduled with a courteous person at their Lynnwood office. Paula came out, surveyed our house, took approximately 1 hrs. longer than any of their 2 other competitors. upon completion on her way out, I asked when I may expect her estimate and her answer was "well, I have about 10 estimates on my desk right now, so give me about 2 days". She knew how time strapped we were, but I went with it. NEVER heard back, but fortunately, I had a couple more estimates coming and made closing and move out on time. Very unprofessional. My advise, either stay on top of Hanson or pick another moving company. read more

I will give Hansen Bros. 2 Stars because our belongings actually made it from Seattle to Idaho. If you are reading this review, I would move on to the next moving company and save time. You can thank me in advance. I you are still reading here is what I've learned about Hansen Bros and Allied Moving. 1. Most expensive of 4 quotes, over 20K for a 5 bedroom house to move 750 miles (Seattle to Boise). This brakes down to about $1/lb per their estimation. 2. They were unable to fully move us on the day the contract stated. They needed a second day. Minimal apologies. We were scheduled to move the following day and had to reschedule flights for a family of 5 as a result because of their miscalculations. 3. I had them pack expensive artwork only to see a piece lying flat on the garage floor and then watch a mover step directly on top of it. WTF? Had to open it up to inspect and then repack it. 4. I was told they would dissemble my kids bunk beds. NO - They asked me to do this. 5. They needed tools throughout the day and did not have any and had to use mine. 6. They do not shrink wrap items rather they like to use a strong brown packing tape to hold things together. I now have the joy of trying to get tape residue off nearly every item of furniture that they put tape on. FFS! 7. They "helped" pack some of our belongings in wardrobe boxes. - BIG MISTAKE. Everything was basically tossed in, unwrapped and most of it damaged or broken upon arrival. 8. Hansen Brothers uses Allied Moving for cross country shipping. What I did not know was that once items left my home, they would be further taken apart to fit into a big rig. BBQs, Kids play houses, patio heaters, etc.... If it can be taken apart it will be. AND....THEY WILL NOT PUT IT BACK TOGETHER. Now I have the joy of reassembling everything without manuals. Oh, and those bunk beds I took apart that they were going to take apart and set up, nope, I am setting those up too. Sectionals, Im reassembling. Pieces are not even placed next to each other. So frustrating. 9. Once the items arrived in Boise the movers were unprepared to wear shoe booties and place adequate runners on brand new white carpeting. Upon request they placed floor tape over 75% of the areas they walked and used hand trucks on. No shoe booties. 10. They are movers. Working with Hansen for our move from Seattle to Buffalo was a mistake. Our stuff has finally arrived, over 3 weeks past the end of the promised window. After having a wonderful experience moving with them across town in Seattle in 2019, we figured they were worth the additional cost quoted in comparison to directly working with their transcontinental partner, Allied. The first warning should have been that the quote was made on Allied printed materials. Salesperson was ok, although we were never warned about the upcoming situation of which they were obviously aware. Move was picked up on time by a fairly unprofessional crew that took breaks every 15 minutes and didn't bring the mattress bags we requested (they promised us this would be remedied as soon as they got to the holding facility- that never happened). Still no warning from the Hansen team of what was to come. The next day, we received a call saying that our transcontinental driver had backed out and they were going to store our stuff and find another driver. The following 5 weeks until the move was packed onto a different van line (we were never informed that our move had been sold to someone else to complete it) consisted of numerous calls to several different customer service reps. When we were fortunate enough to catch them at a time when they weren't "in meetings all day" (having repeatedly failed to follow through on promises to call us back), they offered a laundry list of excuses that I don't care to waste your time detailing, dear yelp reader. Suffice it to say that they weren't able to do much because they had to wait on Allied (direct calls to Allied were also basically a waste of time- I will leave a separate review for them). It was clear that they weren't losing any sleep over our family's dilemma, including needing to push a work start date back a few times. No complaints about the line to which our move was sold (North American). Once they had our stuff they came quickly and exactly when they said it would. Hanson Bros. handled my last move. The packing team showed up on time but with an inadequate number of boxes. To compensate for not having enough boxes, the team improvised by taping any thing that was already in a box (like headphones or an Xbox) together into "box bundles" in order to "not lose anything." I really appreciate Hanson Brothers. I have used them for years. They have some of the nicest staff. Over the past week, I've been buying a lot of packaging materials out of their Seattle office/warehouse. I can't believe how affordable these materials are compared to Home Depot pricing. And the quality seems significantly better. I would recommend Hanson brothers for anything. They are super nice people - today I had Dave and Riley helping me, and I just couldn't believe how congenial they were. Such great guys. And they have great prices on everything. read more

What good is a moving company that won't move you??? I called a month prior to my move and told "no problem etc." Two weeks before the move they come out to look at my house. When they show up the specialist doesnt even look at the house, just says "we can't move you on the week you requested". Of course he had a whole laundry list of excuses. John M., Mike R. and Nick were all very professional. We had our main floor refinished and so had to have all our furniture moved out and stored. They took care in wrapping our furniture and and storing in their warehouse. They then brought our furniture and place them back as they were and double checked with us to see if indeed they were placed correctly. They were also sensitive and careful to lay runners on our newly refinished oak floors. Also they put felt pads on all the furniture. Thank you. read more

We used Hansen Brothers to move our furniture out of a house that we sold in 2019, and to store in their warehouse until we purchased another home. We had a very large amount of furniture stored with them for what turned out to be a three-years, for which we paid $1400/month. When we finally tried to arrange the delivery of our stored possessions, it was incredibly difficult to set up, and almost impossible to obtain an accurate estimate for the moving cost, the price varying between $23,000 and "close to $30,000". It was further difficult to arrange an exact date that our things would be delivered, as we were told that some of the things would arrive on one day, and the rest "sometime later". Their solution would be for us to drive some of our things in a rental "so it could be done in one trip". We ended up using a different moving company as a result, as they were able to give us an exact price, and deliver all of our goods on the day that we requested. On the day of our move, we needed to be at Hansen Brothers' storage facility, and thus had the opportunity to see how our furniture had been packed and stored in the storage crates/vaults at their warehouse. This turned out to be very enlightening, as well as very upsetting. As they opened the vaults, we could see that a number of them had our things shoved in without regard to the safety of our belongings. As a result, a significant number of items were damaged because of the sloppy, careless manner in which the items were stored. For instance, four of our antique dining room chairs had pieces that were broken, a heavy duty wheel barrel was completely cracked, numerous plastic containers were crushed, one box marked "extremely fragile" was decimated on one side as it had heavy yard equipment thrown on top of it. Further stupidity was evidenced by them putting yard equipment in with our upolstered chairs, causing them to be covered with dirt, grass, and for mold to grow on them. And further, an antique China hutch was shoved into a crate with no padding or protection, and had fallen over and cracked. This is by no means an entire list of the items broken or damaged by Hansen Brothers. In short, our our belongings were not treated with the care they should have received, especially given that we paid over $50,000 to Hansen Brothers to safely store them; a job which they UTTERLY FAILED to do. read more

Our move has been a total nightmare. DO NOT USE THEM! we contracted with Hansons knowing they used Allied as their partner for cross country shipping. I went with them because they actually had a rep come out and give us an on sight estimate with a reasonable delivery date that had a five day window. They were higher than other estimates but came with high reviews so I went with them. They postponed our delivery date twice. We spent 11 days in a hotel with 3 teens, 2 cats and a dog. When they finally delivered they brought less than half our belongings !! Today they did the 2nd delivery, 27 days after they loaded us out. And there are still items missing, including our dining room room table top. They expect us to pay extra cause they under estimated our initial weight and now want their money before we even have all our shipment. I am angry and frustrated beyond words. Antonio, Eric and Amadou were efficient and hard workers. I had a TON of stairs so I am sure their backs are feeling it today. I appreciate their respectfulness and understanding and ability to analyze and problem solve. Josh kept me in the loop the entire time and made this otherwise stressful day more relaxing. You can tell that Hanson Bro's promotes this culture in their company as it shows in how things are handled. The crew was also very personable and funny. Also as someone who has used other movers in the past, this team / company doesn't allow for wasted time. You never feel like you are paying for anyone standing around! I have to also review Kevin and Carl. They were my guys who set me up and helped reschedule and problem solve when an unfortunate situation on my end caused a change and resulted in more boxes being added. We contracted Hansen Bros and Allied Moving Company to move us out of state. We initially felt great about our decision to hire them due to the company's long history in the northwest and outstanding reviews. Unfortunately, I suspect that this high level of service they are known is only reserved for their local clientele and not for customers moving away from their market. Before we signed the contract, they were very courteous and had five-star customer service, but after the contract was signed the level of customer service dwindled into some of the worst customer service it reminded me of a used car lot in the 1980's. I really wish I could give company a great review and some of the crew on our move really do deserve and outstanding review. However, the problem really was with the upper management as they failed to live up to the reputation of the business on multiple points in the process of out move. On more than a few occasions when I reached out to our assigned moving assistant, our questions and concerns were met with wisecracks or snarky remarks. This us with a sense of discontentedness and shock that we would be treated like this from a business with such a highly regarded reputation. The move seemed to start off great for the first half of the day, but later in the day I noticed that none of the information we told the estimator made it to the crew. They were packing things that there were not supposed to, or not asking for information on what needed to be packed. It just seemed like a Hansen Bros. just dropped of a bunch of their employees with no direction or with anyone in charge of communicating the owners needs to the crew. On the second day it seemed that the crew was just throwing things into boxes without any paper packaging or cushion. After the long second day I did a walkthrough with the person managing the move and it seemed like they got everything but it was dark and my wife found a bunch of things they did not pack which we had to pay to send back with ups. This experience was very bizarre and strange since the estimator came out an took photos of everything that needed to be moved. We were supposed to have people helping us get ready but I only got a few phone calls and nothing else. No visits helping us to prep for the move so it goes as smooth as possible for everyone. The most difficult experience of the move was when we contacted Hansen Bros. to express our concern with the service the VP of Operations wrote back to us and essentially accused us for having too much stuff to move and then proceeded to tell us how much stuff a house of our size should have and we exceeded that average for the number of square footage of our home. Yet our home was 1/3 larger and included a woodshop in the garage. This was so bewildering to me since we had an estimator come out and look at everything where he took pictures and notes. On top of this we estimated that we paid $140 per box to move and our things came two days after the last estimated day. I think if Trump owned a moving company it would look a lot like this one. If you are looking for a mover, I would strongly consider one that takes the time to write response to all of the reviews even if there are bad. read more

Now, after paying $4,000 I have a home full of disheveled items awaiting updates from claim adjusters and being nickel and dimed. The Hansen Bros staff lacked the ability to communicate or take any ownership. They're unprofessional, negligent, and deficient at their trade. We recently made a big move from Seattle to the Atlanta area. While our packing crew was extremely friendly and quick on the first day, the aftermath didn't match expectations. I expected such great things! Our experience when our goods were delivered revealed many things lacking in our cross country move. Our truck was 2 days past our contracted delivery date. Vintage furniture was gouged and breakables and lamps broken due to haphazard packing techniques. Our Dyson stick vacuum had its cord cut because it was too difficult to find the plug? An expensive item was missing. And when we went to complain, we were told WE were to blame for having more things than estimated (we paid for the additional, underestimated weight and packing services. Square footage was based on Zillow not on asking us directly). That WE were not prepared. An amazing amount of deflection for a service that cost well over $20k. Maybe they're great in town, but for complex moves communication, clarity, care with delicate items and customer service are not their strong suits. read more

Strongly dislike this company. Every time I had a storage box brought down, it was broken into and when I would come back the next day, things were missing. On the day they were to bring my 4 boxes to my house, they brought only 3. They then wanted to charge me to bring the other, it was a big concession for them to not charge me for delivery a week later. The box had been broken into and many things were gone. Hansen Bros Moving & Storage is truly First Rate, A+++, Professional and fast/efficient. I used them in 2012 to move into my apartment, and I'm using them again to move to my new place. David Albaugh coordinated everything. He is a great communicator. He replied to my numerous emails within minutes. He did a thorough walk through of my apartment, and my new place. He gave me a reasonable price-quote, and the work that took place today was just what he quoted. All paperwork was signed electronically. Preparing for the move couldn't have been easier - and that gave me great peace of mind. Today, pre snow storm, Dallas Thompson and Michael Batton arrived on time to help me pack for the big move next week. Dallas and Michael were awesome. The amount of packing they did in just a few hours would have taken me days to do. They were really nice guys to be around. They got along really well with each other, and that made it a nice experience for me. They are hard working and very likable. Next week Hansen Bros will be back to do the big move. I already know it's going to work out just fine. I have nothing but praise and compliments for them. We used Hansen Bros. for a small office move within Bellevue and had a fantastic experience. After receiving a few estimates and going over the costs we liked what they had to offer the best. Mike helped us every step of the way and even held a meeting with all of our employees to go over the move process with us. We used their plastic crate system and it worked out perfectly. I HIGHLY recommend using their crates as opposed to trying to scrounge and find 50+ boxes sturdy enough to pack up a business. Mike was able to estimate and deliver the exact number of crates and dollies we needed to pack. We had plenty of their labels and used their mapping process to ensure all items would make it to the right office in the new space. It made everything really clear, organized and easy. On the day of the move the guys that were actually doing the moving did an exceptional job. They hauled major ass, placed barriers down to keep from marring the floors, wall corners or doorways, and handled everything with care. They got the trucks loaded very quickly and were great about unloading and making sure all of the furniture and electronics were placed in the proper offices and right where we wanted them. They did a thorough walk through and didn't leave until they were assured I was happy. They had great attitudes the entire day and treated us very politely. They were a fun bunch of guys who worked very hard on a hot day. After we unpacked a couple guys came by a week later to retrieve the crates and check on us. We received the best service and the part that made my boss the happiest, they came in under the original estimate. I would absolutely use Hansen Bros. again for our next move. read more

We used Hansen for the first time when we had to move all our furniture out of our house and store it due to an ugly house wetrot issue. The movers were very efficient and professional - taking care to make sure our things were well protected. During the initial sales call prior to the actual move we were given some misinformation - nothing major but an annoyance. When they sent a "tell us how we did" survey, I responded sharing my experience both positive and negative. Here's the reason why I would use these guys again in a heartbeat - Eric actually read the review, took action to better train and inform their sales people, then wrote me a great email sharing their actions and thanking me for my feedback. Rented a Penske truck for pick up with Hansen Bros. The process to pick up a vehicle was very easy; the last form stated that the vehicle was inspect inside and outside by Hansen bro staff. HOWEVER, When we did an expectation we documented dents and scratches outside the truck. Inside the truck LOOKED perfectly fine when doing a quick inspection. After traveling 4 states and unloading/cleaning. There was a box under the passenger seat. That contained ammunition and clip. I got in contact with "John Smith" (whose actual name was on the signed forms) of the situation; and was told he would reach out the district manager to further assist me. They never reached out. This made dropping off the truck more complicated; by having to contact the police to dispose of something that does not belong to me. So thank you staff and especially John Smith for the help; and the thorough inspection y'all did. DONT TRUST THEM and do your own thorough inspection even when they tell you they've done their own inspection. read more

Beware of low quote that might be inflated later. They can charge up to 125% of the quote per WA law. We received a quote from Brad Schuster for $3,795 to move. He did a full review and inventory of the house on-site before arriving at that price. Their service was average during packing, though one person was 1 hour late during moving day. Hansen charged me for that hour. Hansen also charged me for wardrobe boxes that went back on the truck. Their notes claimed they had 2 extra people provided for free, which was not the case - that would have been nice! The $3,795 quote became $4,624 we had to sign for on the day of the move. I would have absolutely used another service if they had quoted $4,624. When questioned how their quote was off by $829 I received the following: "We have strived to provide you with a quality relocation and are sad we missed 100 % satisfaction on your local move. All moving companies are governed by the WA Utilities and Transportation Commission and must abide by the tariff issued by them as the governing body The tariff does state we as movers must collect for all goods and services based upon the hourly rates issued. In doing so they state we must collect 125% of the estimate issued by our sales team. A customer cannot be held responsible for the overage above 125%. I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused to you and your family as a result of the pricing of your move." They did reverse the $65 of wardrobe boxes. 1 star review for the low quote, an inflated invoice and the average moving experience. Be very careful when they quote you what they will charge on moving day. read more

Attitude Adjustment and Clear Communication Needed My family lives in Ballard and we are planning a move to Boise, ID. I did my research and asked three moving companies to come to our home and provide estimates. When I talked to the Hansen Bros. representative on the phone, they were very helpful and set up an appointment two days later. That day was today and a guy named Dave Albaugh showed up. His card says he is with Allied and Hansen Bros, so I assume that Allied does their interstate moves. It was confusing as the rep on the phone did not mention a relationship with Allied. Once in our home, Dave started the conversation with objections -saying that we live in Ballard and the streets are narrow and they use a semi/tractor trailer and that there would be an extra charge (great way to make a first impression). He also made clear that they have a minimum weight (which we were aware of and clearly meet this based on two other bids). When told that we will be moving in 5-6 weeks - which I made clear with the rep on the phone, he proceeded to say that they are best in town and they are very busy. He then called the office because our house address was not in his iPad software program. At that point I let him know that we would not be interested in his services. He hung up his phoned and walked out of our house. All of that took about 6 minutes. What a lousy experience compared to working with the Bekins and All West representatives that were at our home yesterday. They took time before evaluating to sit down and briefly explain their companies expertise (much more professional than gruffly saying "We're #1, we're #1") and approach to ensuring a great customer experience. I know that this is an established company that comes highly recommended by many and I respect that, but we had a very poor experience with this company. I hope that it is more of the exception than the rule. read more

My family and I have used them extensively and I know for certain things have disappeared. That may be changed now. In the last year I have sold my home, moved to the new home, moved 1/2 the new house to storage for a renovation, moved the other 1/2 out, moved mattresses, and requested a few pieced be taken out of storage for the upholsterers and we still have a full move back in. Hansen Bros. has been there for me at every step. I keep waiting for them to say "No", but is has not yet happened. Everyone there, from the reception to each mover to the warehouse manager have been professional and kind. The movers are efficient snd careful with everything. I moved with Hanson Brothers, Seattle, WA October 2017. One reason I chose this company was the good ratings and reviews online and the fact that it was a family owned business. The move seemed efficient. Certainly the men worked hard. But I have a lot to say about the state of my moved furniture. Almost all of the pieces were damaged seriously. I have pictures of a rosewood antique with a hole poked on the front of it. A mahogany desk was completely scratched on one side covering about 40% of the surface area. A scratch one inch wide was on the side of my mahogany china cabinet and on the other side was a long gouge an inch wide where the whole surface was removed (not a scratch). Etc. A hint something was wrong was the fact that they really rushed me on the check out. Before the move, an agent came around to assess the load. At that time I told her that the furniture was worth a fair amount of money given the expensive woods and the old age early to mid 1900's. After the move, I told this to the manager but he stated that he "moved all woods carefully no matter the type, even Ikea". I told him an antique getting a scratch decreases much more in value than an Ikea piece. In fact it practically ruins the piece. As I remember there were clues during the move. The furniture was not wrapped with pads but was rolled onto the side of a dolly. My guess is the padding on the dollies was worn or the furniture was loaded or unloaded to the truck improperly. I could not leave the apartment to check on the loading. Don't use the company if you care about your furniture. They only care about speed and they cut corners. read more

UPDATE: 9/26/18 - I just retrieved my furniture from the storage facility where Hanson Bros. Moving & Storage delivered it. They were the last people to touch my stuff. I found many pieces of furniture had not been protected with padding or wrap and were badly scratched from being stacked and slid on top of other items without any protection. A few items were broken or missing altogether. For some reason, they wrapped and protected some items, but other pieces from the same set, were not protected in any way. (These are high-end items that had been in near showroom condition prior to the move.) Knowing what I know from my terrible experience with this moving company, I'm not even going to try to file a claim. I'm certain that would amount to nothing but a huge waste of my time. Just live and learn I suppose. All this aggravation from a so-called "service provider", makes me sorry I ever spent my money on nice furniture. I would strongly caution anyone thinking about using this company. read more

Scroll for the TL;DR version. Let me preface: I've moved every year or so for the past 10 years, so I've been through the ringer with different moving options. Usually I do it myself, packing, loading, driving, and all. But this year, when I moved from San Francisco to Seattle, I went with Hansen Bros. Because moving sucks, and I'm getting tired of packing. But oh, wait -- you didn't think that movers make your life *easier* now, did you? No, of course not. That'd make you a total fool, right? Apparently. I'll try to make this brief and thorough, because I've wasted enough time with this shallow excuse for a moving company. Pre-move: I saw another reviewer mention the non-existent contract that needs to be signed before moving. Yeah -- when told I would receive said contract weeks before my move, I finally received it a day before. I couldn't confirm my move out date the week before we'd scheduled it, and no one would tell me what to expect. Should I pack some? Should I pack nothing? Should I expect 5 guys? 1 guy? 30 guys? Should I prepare a sacrificial offering to the Gods of Fortune? Luckily, they said they'd have parking all taken care of (and even charged for it in the bill). After all, they had come to survey our tiny little SF hole, which is at the top of one of those famous Bay area hills. Surely they knew what they were getting themselves into. Move day: They were 3 hours late, the first time. The driver finally "arrived" in an 18-wheeler, and called us confused because "I can't get my truck up that hill." So he left. In about 2-3 more hours, another crew showed up. No one had gotten a parking permit. They movers themselves were very nice, very professional, and quick. We had a small place anyway, but they were out in less than 2 hours. Phew. Our stuff was finally on its way to Seattle. Hard part over. Stranded in Seattle: I'm writing now from someone else's apartment, an AirBnB. My stuff is all in a storage unit, but I would never have guessed that. The driver, Craig, just dropped it off the other day. He didn't call us; we didn't sign off on it. He just left it and skidattled. Thanks, Craig. Here's lookin' at you. Our contact at the company has been impossible to get in touch with, and each time we call the company proper, we hear different things from different people. It's like...it's like we're communicating with time travelers who have no grasp on continuity. TL;DR VERSION: This company blows. Don't hire them if you have little bits of sanity you'd like to keep in your clutches. read more

We recently made a move with Hansen Bros from Issaquah, WA to Palm Desert, CA. This review also includes Allied Van Lines that transported the household goods to Palm Desert. The move was fraught with problems from the beginning. Day one was crating some valuable and heavy items. The craters arrived 2 hours late, never informing us- we only found out after sitting around for an hour when we called Hansen Bros. to find out what was wrong. Then they measured wrong for two of the crates and had to return with new crating materials the next day. Moving day was supposed to start between 8 and 10 AM. However the truck didn't come until approximately 11:30. Again we sat around waiting- because no one called us to say they would be late. We had to call to find out what was wrong. We expected to be able to leave for the desert around 3-4 PM but had to stay overnight because they didn't finish until late in the afternoon. Cost us extra because we had to stay in a motel one extra day! The next disappointment was that we were told the window of delivery would be 4-8 days and the driver assured us when he left that it would be closer to 8 days because he had to go to Phoenix first. Well much to our dismay we received a phone call after 3 days that the truck would arrive on day 4 between 10 and 12Noon. On day 4 we were up very early preparing the house for arrival of the truck but received a call at 11:30 A.M. that the driver wasn't coming that day after all! This was an hour and a half after he was supposed to be at our house! Why did he not call us earlier? Why didn't Hanson Bros. call us to tell us of the delay?? We find this lack of customer service appalling. The goods were delivered on day 5. The main problem was that we had to argue to get the crates unpacked. We were never told the movers would not unpack the crates or reassemble the items that were crated! The final straw was when we realized the next day that the movers had not delivered one of our packages and left a box that was not ours! When we realized the truckers mistake we had to make at least three calls to arrange for him to drop off our item and pickup the box that wasn't ours. First he told us he would swing by on the way back from Arizona as he had to go by the house anyway. It would be around 8PM. Then at 10PM- two hours after he was supposed to be at our house he called to say his truck was having problems and he was still in Arizona and would leave it during the night. We stayed up most of the night waiting for him so we could let him in through the coded gate. He didn't come until noon! We would definitely not recommend Hansen Bros. or Allied Moving Lines to anyone who values good customer service, reliable scheduling and empathy for customer problems. read more

NEVER EVER USE THESE PEOPLE! They do not segregate your possessions from other peoples, they lose stuff, and then pay you $0.60 per pound. Other reviewers have expressed these same problems. Here's our story: We placed a few things in storage for one year (4 carpets and pads, 2 coffee tables, 1 couch, and a family heirloom cradle). When they arrived to re- deliver our belongings, they opened the vault and started to remove things. I was horrified that there were multiple items belonging to someone else (they don't know who). (a large dresser, 2 large bookcases, and 3 storage boxes with electronics, CDs, etc.). Then they started to drag out my coffee table. I told them "stop!" It was not wrapped with padding, and they were dragging it on its side. Needless to say, it badly marred the edge of a beautifully lacquered table. One of the pieces to the cradle was missing, so it is not able to be set up either. Things get worse. They only had one of my 4 carpets. I spoke to the warehouse manager on the phone, and he said "no problem, we keep large carpets piled in a separate area, and many of them are not labeled. So please send me a photo of the missing carpets and we'll try to locate it." What?? They found one of them. But, not the other two. One of these is irreplaceable--we bought it during a family trip to Egypt before the revolution. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE! They mix your belongings with other people's. They lose stuff, and they wreck stuff. They apologized, promised to work with me and my insurance company. They promised to have a furniture repairman come fix the scratches in my table. Instead, they have "run for the hills." Then they mailed a check to me for $180 with a letter "your claim has been settled. Hansen Bros. Transfer & Storage is considering your claim closed." My damages and losses are approximately $30,000. IF YOU VALUE YOUR POSSESSIONS, DO NOT USE HANSEN'S MOVING & STORAGE!! read more

I have used movers many times in other states, and used Hansen brothers recently. They were HORRIBLE. They didn't communicate clearly and DID NOT SHOW UP AT THEIR SCHEDULED TIME! I sat in my packed apartment waiting for them for 4 hours, getting looped around into peoples emails not knowing what was going on. They finally showed up and moved very very slow. When I wrote to the Better Business Bureau here is part of their response as to why it was acceptable for them to not show up at their scheduled time. This is from an email from their Manager"We were, up until that time working under the impression that your were able to take Monday off." If they scheduled the time and confirmed it, it isn't their business how their client schedules the rest of their day. The Manager also stated that he considers them public transportation who has ZERO OBLIGATION to show up at a scheduled time. I don't believe they are on the same guide lines as the bus. I highly recommend you avoid this horribly run company with very bad customer service. ** Due to my posting they offered me a 20% credit, but would not consider more which is sad since that refund doesn't even cover my lost wages for the day due to their scheduling snafu. read more

I have used Hansen Bros twice (December 2009 and December 2010), and I must say that I really liked them. Jenny (consultant?) was very pleasant and patient with all of my questions. I'm not sure what happened with the other reviewers, but I felt that everything was explained ahead of time and there were no surprise charges. The first move was actually cheaper than the estimate (finished ahead of schedule), the second was exactly what they said it would be. They showed up in their time window, took very good care of some paintings I had in expensive frames, and even offered to put stuff in the truck that I was planning on throwing in my car. Yes, there is a lot of paperwork to sign, but it doesn't take long. The only thing I would alert potential customers to is the fact that if you have them for a 4+ hour job, they will take a 10 minute break at some point. Usually right after the truck is packed and ready to go. I hope I don't have to move again soon, but I will definitely use them again. read more

Yeesh. If I had read the reviews here (versus those on the Lynwood lcoation page) I probably wouldn't have gone with Hansen Bros., but since my move went so well I feel more than obligated to write about it. Our moving consultant was Jeff and he was great. Always very personable and polite. We had a hard time synching up schedules to sign the contract, but we got it done about a week and a half before our move so no harm, no foul. Jeff was really helpful when it came to packing. I did all the packing myself (except the TV and a few other items) and Jeff let me know that Hansen Bros. gave customers boxes that had been previously used. This was super convenient as I lived close to Aurora and was much easier than Craigslist hunting and much cheaper than buying new. I did end up buying some packing paper, tape, and a wardrobe box at Home Depot. Home Depot is slightly cheaper than Hansen Bros. and conveniently located right next door. The movers arrived very promptly and moved all the stuff quickly. They even disassembled a large Ikea Expedit bookshelf (6 ft. by 6 ft.) and wrapped all the parts together. Every box was labeled and accounted for. They transported through Allied Vans and gave us a delivery date between March 1st -10th in Oakland. We received great communication from Allied and we were told our delivery would end up being March 3rd between 8 am and 10 am. They showed up right at 8 am and unpacked speedily. I wish I recalled our drivers name, but he has been with Allied for over 35 years and travels with a dog named Scarlett (adorable, by the way). They re-assembled our bookshelf easily and helped unpack our TV. Very affable and professional movers. I would highly recommend Hansen Bros. for long distance moves. read more
