SPICY NIGHT IN BANGKOK: FRIED CHICKEN, SPICY PEANUT SAUCE, CHILI PEPPERS, AND SCALLIONS IN A SWEET POTATO BISCUIT.
This was the fantastic special offering I enjoyed for lunch today after laying my hungry eyes upon the new photo that appeared on their Facebook page this morning. After taking one look at this photo, I could not stop obsessing about it.
Finally, I couldn't take it anymore. So, I left my air-conditioned apartment on this hot and humid day to take about the five minutes it takes to drive over here from my Ghent apartment. I arrived a few minutes past Noon and was able to find a parking space easily. Within minutes after my arrival, other diners came driving in and began to stand in line.
Having beaten the lunch time crowd, I was first in line and placed my order immediately for this tantalizing new biscuit I just saw on their Facebook page. They were jubilant over my choice and told me that I was the very first customer to order it.
After duly advising me of its heat level, I assured them that I love hot and spicy food with very few restrictions.. They offered to ramp up its heat level with a few extra chili peppers, which was an offer I was glad to accept and couldn't refuse.
I also ordered their Hash Brown Crisp with Melted Onions and enjoyed a delicious cup of their homemade iced cherry soda while I waited for my order. I've never had a better cherry soda, which proved to be a most refreshing treat on such a hot and thisty day like today. I enjoyed another one to go as well.
This was my second visit to this restaurant, with my first one taking place in January of this year. I enjoyed their Hella Fitzgerald during my first visit, once again with their Hash Brown Crisp and Melted Onions. I've never had a better chicken biscuit anywhere.
As much as I enjoyed the Hella Fitzgerald, I enjoyed the Spicy Night in Bangkok even more, which I attribute to my passion for hot and spicy tastes. It was love and orgasmic bliss at first bite. The flavors of the peanut sauce, chili peppers, and scallions merged with the chicken and the fresh sweet potato biscuit exquisitely and performed a divine tap dance up and down my tongue.
When I asked them if their Spicy Night in Bangkok was a permanent new addition to their menu, they advised me that it was a "recurring special" at this time. I will definitely be rooting to see and enjoy this biscuit more often.
With respect to my first two visits, the only reservation I have to report is that I would have preferred a little more crunch and spice to my hash browns. Perhaps, some extra black pepper and paprika would perk them up a bit. However, this may very well be due to a personal and subjective bias, one that may not even be fair to mention. If so, please forgive me.
In my opinion, this wonderful little restaurant is screaming for a bigger and better location. Imagine, for example, if the Hardee's at the intersection of Colonial Avenue and 21st Street were to close down, and if Handsome Biscuit could take over its space. Wow! This would definitely solve their parking issues and allow them to serve a much larger volume of customers.
A big part of me wanted to give this restaurant a full 5-star rating. After exercising some thoughtful restraint, I am now inclined to give them what I believe would be more accurate rating within the range from 4.25 to 4.5 stars.
Having already exhibited an honest standard of excellence during my first two visits, it is my sense that they are still growing and bursting at the seams to become even better than they are right now. Accordingly, I want to wish them the best of success in doing so. read more
