hawaiian ahi and spicy mayo ahi poke bowl (bottom) + cali crunch bowl (top)

I came around 2pm on a Tuesday and there were open seats. The seating is limited because they share the space with a shave ice place. Food came out relatively fast for the amount of orders they were getting. Both of the bowls had very fresh ahi and i really like the addition of the pickled vegetables. Portions were also good for the price!

I had a ton of poke during my trip to Hawaii and I think this was one of my top spots I tried. I ended up ordering a poke bowl with the ahi in Hawaiian and shoyu. Fish was fresh, sauce was perfect, and I loved that you could choose sushi rice as a base. I wish I didn't eat as much beforehand so I could have tried some of their other options on the menu. Very close to Waikiki so I highly recommend making the short trip here. They also have a free private parking lot which is a plus in such a busy area.

Solid local grindz spot! Friendly, helpful staff with quick service. The karaage chicken hit the spot--crispy, flavorful chicken over rice with a generous portion and classic sides like mac salad and fresh veggies. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying. We also tried a poke bowl that was packed with flavor. Quick, casual, and perfect when you're craving a good local-style meal. Shared space with shimazu shave ice, so if you have room to eat more, grab a shave ice when you're pau!

The people at HanaPa'a are super aloha friendly serving poke and other Hawaiian plates. The cafe is cute with five tables for dine-in. Most people take food to go. You order at the counter. I didn't want poke so John, the clerk, steered me to the Garlic Karaage Chicken. And, wow, it was delicious. The plate was beautiful. The chicken has a dark crispy coating that is slightly sweet with a bit of spice and a sprinkling of Furikake. The meat is tender and juicy. The salad was dressed with a Thai ginger dressing that was refreshing. I selected the brown rice. The Mac salad was really good (not sweet like other Mac salads). The plate had a lot of food and is easily shareable. (I took half home for dinner.) The place has a steady stream of locals buying poke or the garlic chicken. I thought the prices were reasonable. Parking is available in their small private lot. I'd return and definitely recommend. I will be craving the Garlic Chicken.

HanaPa'a 2 was my favorite poke place that I tried over a span of two weeks in Big Island and O'ahu. During my one week in O'ahu, I came here three times. I highly recommend paying them a visit. Recommended: -Ahi Fever - this comes with 3 types of tuna: spicy mayo, furikake seared, and kimchi ahi patty. Servce with rice, greens, and mac salad. Great! I really liked having a sampling of the tuna prepared three different ways, especially the spicy mayo ahi. -Poke: I tried the spicy mayo salmon, spicy chili crunch salmon, garlic shoyu salmon, sweet ginger shoyu ahi, sweet ginger shoyu salmon, and Hawaiian salmon. I really liked all of them (except the Hawaiian was a bit salty for my preference). I also really liked the options to pick 1/2 1/2 for poke bowls and the options for rice/greens. They also have non-poke dishes (both mains and sides/desserts). I liked their haupia and kalua pig bowl; the latter was less salty and oily compared to other other kalua pork that I tried. Service is extremely kind and friendly. There are a few tables and chairs; it's a bit crowded as it's in the same location as Shimazu Shave Ice.

Tonight for dinner I was craving for some kind of fish plate . I remember my sister mentioning that HanaPaa 2 had pretty good poke and plate lunches . So cool I made my way down to Castle St. actually right behind Rainbow Drive inn. HanaPaa is located in the small parking lot entrance on Castle St. Very friendly local guys greeting you once you enter their doors. Counter person explained to me in detail how to order your poke bowl . Starch , sides along with your fish and how you want it prepared. I ordered my wife a Salmon poke bowl which she loves Salmon over sushi rice . I was sold on their Garlic crusted Parmesan Ahi . My plate lunch came with a toss salad along with a Mac salad over sushi rice and 2 nice pieces of garlic crusted Parmesan Ahi. Prices were ok although the sushi rice you can hardly taste the rice vinegar. Next time I'll try their spicy Ahi or Shoyu Ahi . Support local

We got a couple of poki bowls and a cali crunch bowl. The fish and sauces were great. I'm used to poki bowls coming with veggie options and they don't really have that, although I asked for avocado which they added. I've updated this review after trying more poke places in Hawaii. I think this is standard. I'm used to mainland poke bowls. The fish and sauce were great.

If a plate lunch could bring me back to my childhood memories of good Ol Hawaii living, then this would be it. Memories of my dad cooking butter garlic ahi in the kitchen. Garlic chicken bento from the local mom & pop shop and poke from your favorite poke stand. Everything all in one plate. So good. Could be shareable if you're not a big eater. Definitely worth it though and service 5 star.

HanaPa'a was the first stop on my itinerary after landing, and it was the best decision! Absolutely delicious food to begin our trip in Honolulu. Shoutout to Amanda & Felix' (on Youtube) recommendation~ My bf and I shared an ahi fever and it was nothing short of amazing... and I miss this a lot lol. The poke and seared ahi were really fresh, and the kimchi patty was so flavorful and moist. Appreciated everything else that was included in this plate like the salad bed under the seared ahi, mac salad, pickled veg and pickled ginger. Incredible textures and flavors throughout the plate, and the portion was great! The person helping us order was sooo kind - he was so helpful and patient when we were ordering, and when the orders came out, he pointed out each element of our plates/bowls and labeled the container lids with the fish + name of the order. :) Definitely coming back here when I have the chance!

HanaPa'a2 is located on castle street in the same building that Shimazu Shave Ice occupies. There is about 6 parking stalls in a very tight parking lot, but don't let that deter you from coming in here. I've been beating up Shimazu all week and decided today after eating a shave ice as big as my head to try a meal at HanaPa'a2. I ordered a HanaPa'a special which is pork wrapped insides Taro leaves on top of rice and a container of Poi. The food was delivered piping hot and fresh as could be. The taro leaves were not bitter and quite tasty and the pork was tender and full of slow cooked flavor. The rice was soft and tender and cooked to perfection. Every time I've come here there has been several folks eating lunch here and now I see why. The food was delicious, the owner was friendly and if you love pork like I do, then this is a dish for you.

Lunch in Kapahulu, Honolulu, Hawaii... Located next to Rainbow Drive-In, at Hawaii's Favorite Kitchen, HanaPa'a 2 shares its dining area and parking lot with Shimazu Shave Ice. There was a line for shave ice, but none for HanaPa'a 2, so we ordered right away and had to wait a bit for a table to open up. We're lucky to have gotten the last parking space in the small lot. It's a cozy, busy place on a Sunday afternoon! I ordered the misoyaki salmon and brown rice. It came with a green salad, macaroni salad, pickled ginger, and kabayaki sauce. The cashier was very good because he asked if we wanted Furikake on our rice. He also explained the plates well! I liked the salmon and lot! There were 2 pieces and I couldn't finish! The sauce was a bit salty for me. The portion was generous! Thanks for a great meal!

Ahi Fever... The picture doesn't do it justice... It tastes 10 times better than it looks
    Daron C.

WHOA! The Ahi Fever absolutely blew my mind! So unique and tasty...comes with Spicy Poke, Kimchee Ahi Patty and Seared Tuna served cold with Wasabi Aioli. Definitely a memorable 10/10 dish for me and one that stands out amongst the dozens of poke I've had on the island. If you love poke like I do but want something just at *little* bit different...this is your place. Thanks Yelpers for helping me find this place...I hope this review convinces someone else to do the same. Parking in a tiny lot or street parking; also right next door to Rainbow Drive Inn.

First time here and we got to try a few of their items like a quarter pound of ahi and tako, shacho bento, and a Keiki chicken bowl. I really like how you can custom order everything there. The nice uncle at the counter was super friendly and explained everything on the menu. We will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. There are 4-5 tables inside to enjoy your food or you can get it to go. We were super hungry so I forgot to take pictures of my son's chicken bowl and the tako and poke to go. Oops, my bad.

This place was just two blocks away, so we braved the November misty rain and consistent wind through the buildings to make it over here. To be fair, this seemed more like a Vietnamese coffee joint and a Banh Mi place... so maybe coming here for pho wasn't our best idea. They had two kinds available that night-- beef and chicken. Since chicken pho is not something I'm willing to try, we both ordered up the dac biet. The broth was bland with a thin and unpleasant veil of grease along the top that congealed quickly on the rim of the bowl. It wasn't hot enough, or maybe the pre-cooked and chilled noodle block they poured it over cooled it off. Meat was chewy and low quality. The sprouts and basil were soggy and wilted. Honestly, it was a get up and leave kind of thing. The whole place was just dingy and didn't feel great. I've eaten at some very modest places in my native San Gabriel Valley in Southern California, so it's not a snobbery thing. It's a "someone get a Swiffer wet jet and some paper towels and give this whole place a once-over. Speaking of once, that's the sum total of times we'll ever eat here. Ordering ahead was easy and convenient, which I appreciated, and pickup was smooth. When I picked up my sandwich, my first thought was, "Wow, this is a heavy sandwich for a turkey-bacon with added avocado, no onions, and no tomato." At the time I assumed the weight meant a generous portion of turkey and bacon. Unfortunately, when I got back to work and opened it, I quickly realized that wasn't the case--it was the lettuce. There was an overwhelming amount of lettuce packed into the sandwich, to the point where it felt completely out of balance. Instead of being turkey-forward, it felt more like a lettuce sandwich with a few toppings added in. The turkey and bacon portions themselves were surprisingly small and unevenly distributed--one half had about two slices of turkey while the other had closer to a slice and a half. Most of the bacon was also concentrated on one half, so I ended up redistributing it just to make the sandwich feel a bit more balanced. The bread didn't help either. I think I shouldn't have gotten it toasted--it just didn't do it for me. It felt a little off with the filling and didn't add anything to the overall experience. I ordered The Duke, but what I didn't realize was that I was essentially getting a salad sandwich (see pic). I like lettuce on a sandwich, but this was next level--the amount completely overwhelmed everything else inside. The cost was another consideration--my total came to $19.37, including a $3.50 charge for avocado. For the portion size and balance of ingredients, I expected a bit more bang for my buck. If I give this place a second chance, I'll definitely need to say 'lite lettuce'--or maybe just 'no lettuce, please'--unless I want another salad disguised as a sandwich!

I had visited their sister location the night before in Waikīkī and had such a great experience that I told my wife, "If this place is anything like last night, we're in for something good." She agreed--and we decided to give it a shot. Right when we walked in, we were greeted by Colby, a tall, friendly guy with a great attitude. I mentioned my experience from the night before, and he immediately said he wanted to live up to that standard. That kind of response set a really positive tone. We ordered two Aroma Specials: Dolce & Banana (me) Nutella Latte (my wife) For food, we went with: P.B. Delight açaí bowl Turkey pesto panini Bacon & egg bagel Total came out to about $62, which we expected given the location near the beach. We grabbed a seat inside by the window (outside seating was full--no surprise on such a beautiful morning). Our drinks came out quickly--but unfortunately, this is where things started a little rough. We both noticed right away that something was off. My wife's Nutella latte didn't have that rich hazelnut flavor you'd expect, and my Dolce & Banana was missing the banana entirely. Honestly, they tasted almost identical. When I politely mentioned it to a staff member who brought out our food, the response felt dismissive and didn't really address the concern--which was disappointing and definitely not the experience we were hoping for. At that point, we decided to just enjoy the food and move forward--and I'm glad we did, because the food was fantastic. The turkey pesto panini was loaded with flavor, perfectly crispy on the outside, and packed with melty cheese. The bacon & egg bagel was hearty, well-balanced, and super satisfying. The P.B. Delight açaí bowl was the surprise standout--perfectly blended, fresh, and the peanut butter added an awesome richness that made it feel like a treat. Everything on the food side absolutely delivered. A few minutes later, Colby came by to check on us--and this is where the entire experience turned around. I let him know honestly: "The food is amazing, but the coffee missed the mark." Without hesitation, without attitude, and without making excuses, he said, "Hang on, let me fix that." I even told him not to worry about it--we were enjoying ourselves regardless--but he insisted. "Rick, I got you," he said. Within minutes, he came back with two freshly made drinks and a sincere apology. We took a sip and immediately--night and day difference. The Nutella latte had that rich, distinct hazelnut flavor. The Dolce & Banana finally had that smooth, balanced banana note Exactly what we were hoping for the first time. Colby is the MVP Colby completely turned this experience around. His attitude never changed--he was smiling, positive, kind, and genuinely cared about making things right. No defensiveness, no excuses--just great customer service and follow-through. That kind of service is rare, and it matters. It's evident that not all the workers have that same dedication to customer service but Colby does!
