Sushi Combo

Good portion sizes for what you get. This review pertains to a delivery order. Pros: Miso soup was delicious and crisp, pork tonkatsu was crispy, rice was perfectly cooked. The salmon side was pretty and I liked the layout. I also liked the veggies underneath the beef teriyaki slices. Cons: Fish was fishy tasting -- not a good after taste. Beef teriyaki slices were thinly cut not against grain, thus had a toughness to it. For the tonkatsu, there was not enough sauce. This lot was around $78, which was good for a quick lunch.

Bug in food

Not sure what this bug is. But I found it right when I opened the miso soup. Salmon and Saba were both very BURNT. Not just grilled, it was beyond grilled. I'm definitely more concerned about the bug in my food and lost all appetite afterwards. DEFINITELY not ordering from here again.

Fish didn't taste fresh so that was very disappointing. I ended up removing the fish eggs off my rolls too and eating the sashimi with the lemon slices to make it better. The restaurant was strangely very empty on a Sunday night and the place smelled very strongly of bleach, which was super displeasing. I was considering leaving just because of the smell. They did frequently check on our table and offered water refills which was sweet but also awkwardly disrupted conversation.

Omg where do I begin! Everytime I come to Hanamuru whether it's order out of eating out I just feel so taken care of! Great staff sweet souls that are offering fire food that not only fills your belly but your soul. Did not order this little dessert and we were gifted this and it's just a little depiction of what this beautiful staff does for their patrons. LIKE ALWAYS LEAVING HANAMURU WITH A HUGE SMILE IN MY FACE AND A BELLY FULL OF GOOD FOOD

We celebrated my son's 16th birthday. We enjoyed the Fresh sashimi and other wonderful entrees. The vibe is always friendly and welcoming, so it is a wonderful place for any occasion ranging from simple dine in to special occasions.

Lion King Roll

I ordered for take out but didn't pick up my order, so my review is primarily on the Lion King roll! It's a bit expensive here - about $16-17 for a Lion King. To be honest, I was a little underwhelmed with the quality of sushi here. The salmon had a strange slimey texture, and the entire roll was drenched in a sweet and spicy sauce which overpowered the entire roll. The "roll" part of the sushi was fairly standard but nothing extraordinary. The previous reviews concerning the foul smells in the restaurant are definitely worrisome too lol - I'd likely visit another sushi restaurant in the future!

This place is only doing pick up. I always place my order online, which I think that's the best way so you know exactly when to pick it up. I like it because I get an email that they received my order and the approximate time to pick up my food, so I know when to head out. I like to order the lemon roll, rainbow roll, saki nagiri, and sometimes try a random different roll. Also, this time I grabbed the baked mussels as an appetizer. The baked mussels had a lot of sauce which I liked. The fish is always fresh and they don't go cheap. Everything I've had so far is really yummy. I have no complaints. The workers are friendly and the food is worth it.

When you want some affordable with lots of options for you to choose from, come to Hanamaru. So many options and so many combo to choose from and they are all good. It comes in a huge quantity. The waiting time was quite short. I ordered a lot and it took no more than 30 minutes. It is located in a corner of the plaza so look closely. It's not a small place and it looks weird at first, not like a sushi place. But it is very good. Please come try and support this place.

The workers were really nice and they accommodated our large group. The had interesting drink which I forgot to take a picture of. They also have beers by the pitcher. I got the salad and I thought it was going to be a small plate but it was actually a huge bowl made to share, so keep that in mind. I will coming back to try all the other stuff on their menu. However, my boyfriend was not a fan of pork belly and seafood, so he was wary to try any okonomiyaki. He finally chose to try their steak rice bowl, because there is no way you can go wrong with steak and rice, right? Well, to our surprise, his choice turned out to be his worst meal he ever paid for. The rice was not hot enough, or I could say, room temperature. There were a bunch of raw white onions and pickles in it, I guess they were the culprit for the room temperature rice. The onion and pickle smell and taste were just too strong that we could barely had any taste of the rice and the steak themselves. Basically, we felt like we were biting a whole white onion fresh from the grocery bag. We also ordered gyoza and chicken karaage, which I think they were frozen and reheated in microwave. The chicken meat was rubbery and tasteless. We did not finish any of them and didn't even want to pack the leftover to-go. Service was okay. We were seated right away but waited for a while to make an order. We didn't really have a designated server. The one that seated us and took our order was really knowledgable in terms of giving recommendation. But we didn't see him again after that, and some other servers helped us during our dine-in.

According to our friend an ever-changing row of exciting sounding but new restaurants, But, Just outside of the main Sunnyvale walk you can find Rokko the Japanese restaurant where we dined, it's just around the corner from the Main Street, next to the adjacent the parking lot. This was our second choice as we couldn't get reservations last minute on a Saturday at Gochi where we I'm sure we go next time for a completely different look of Japanese food. We were very happy to report that Rokko was an excellent choice. Where Gochi sounded trendy. Rokko was a different style, a traditional family style restaurant, and after tasting the food, I found myself reminiscing about how there were so many Japanese restaurants in SoCal at one time, but none now, that we loved, they were similar to Rokko for just a casual night out. When I tasted their food at Rokko it brought back those memories and i realized how I missed this type of casual family style Japanese restaurant. Rokko seated us promptly, service great food delicious and abundant. Nice portions tempura not greasy and with a just the right crunch. Loved the Daikon oroshi and ginger an important detail that most Japanese restaurants forget to add. It's this necessary detail that complements the tempura sauce & adds just the right touch to make it delicious and familiar. Enjoyed a nice evening with excellent service, food and company.

And it seems to get full fast here. It's a very roomy izakaya feel. The prices aren't too bad for what you're getting. We were really full after an okonomiyaki and a two piece bento. Slight quality control concerns, unsure if that's just due to them being packed or if it's standard affair. They bring everything out as it's done Ok, so about the food, the okonomiyaki is spot on. They purchased a license from Fugetsu to serve their okonomiyaki. We got the seafood one and it was excellent, all parts were delicious but for me, the squid is what stood out. Very smoky but not overcooked. There's like two pieces of scallop. And it comes thick. The bento box, the ribeye has the BBQ tastes kind of like a Vietnamese BBQ pork chop. But it was tender and cooked to medium. The chicken kaarage was crisp too, just wish there was dipping sauce for it. The salad was refreshing. The miso soup wasn't too salty at all. The tempura was crispy but the issue was that it wasn't allowed to rest on a rack or something and it ended up oily on the inside. I'd personally skip on it, unless you don't mind oily and/or you're going when it's not too busy.

This evening, there was a significant change and a couple minor shortcomings that made this a less enjoyable than in past visits. The restaurant wasn't very crowded for a Saturday evening. We were seated quickly and then considered our options. One big change from before is that you're now limited in how your grilled fish is prepared. Previously, you chose a type of fish and then a style, such as passionfruit glaze, pineapple salsa, green curry, etc. Now, the fish is all prepared the same way - sea salt, lemon, chimichurri. So even if everyone gets a different fish (like we did), it's all prepared the same way. Disappointing. We started with some calamari, like we always do. It was prepared well but it was obvious that the dish had been hit by shrinkflation. If there had been more than three of us it wouldn't have been enough to satisfy us all. For our grilled fish, we got the Kona kanpachi, Barramundi sea bass, and Verlasso salmon. All were good, but my kanpachi was a little overcooked and on the dry side. For the sides, we enjoyed the Mexican corn, Brussels sprouts, and kimchi fried rice but the asparagus was overcooked and a little mushy. Service was just okay. Our server barely looked over during the meal so it was hard to get her attention when our water bottle was empty. Prices were higher than we have been used to. The total for 3 diners with one shared appetizer and no drinks was nearly $160, with a 20% and mandatory 3% surcharge added.
