Came here as a party of three and was seated immediately on a Thursday evening! The interior and ambiance is very Izakaya vibes, and all ordering is doing via a kiosk. This was perhaps my favorite part since it gave us the opportunity to see pictures of the food and order at the pace we please. We ended up getting two rolls and some appetizers. Thought about it there's not alot of sushi places in sunnyvale and this place was exactly where we needed to be when my mom was craving sushi for lunch. Quite a nice AYCE sushi place in Sunnyvale/Santa Clara area. The quality of nigiri/sashimi is decent, and the AYCE includes a generous variety for about $50 a person. There are some limitations to the total # of sashimi and nigiri you can order, but unlimited appetizers, entrees, sushi rolls, and soup. Service was very attentive as well. Came here for lunch with a friend and we enjoyed our meal. We got seated right away and the staff quickly brought out the menus. My friend opted for a bento box with a couple of sushi rolls while I got the 9-piece sashimi platter. Both our meals came with miso and salad. My sashimi pieces were nice, thick cuts and tasted fresh and fatty. My friend's sushi rolls were big - they weren't primarily rice either, it actually came with a good serving of protein inside. You definitely get value for your dollar here. My only complaint is that they didn't have any tea available when we came - they were out. How is a sushi place out of tea?! Shouldn't they be a staple? Great neighborhood sushi place, located in a shopping center shared by Marie Callender's and Cold Stone Creamery (and Sunright Tea Studio at the other end of the center). Sakebomb Sushi & Grill has been one of my go to whenever I'm craving sushi. I've been here quite a few times and their sushi is good/decent and their service has been great each time as well. The goal when going to a sushi restaurants is to try as many different rolls each visit. Although, I do have my preferences on sushi but still try to order something outside of my preferences. I prefer raw fish over baked/deep fried but I'll still order it anyway. I have tried a good amount of rolls here some were memorable, some were okay, and some I don't remember at all. I like the whole combo of salmon, spicy mayo with a nice crunch, and cream cheese. - Flaming Dragon: this one is the exceptional non-raw sushi roll that I really enjoyed. Sometimes they give you a show by lighting it with fire in front of you and sometimes they give it to you already cooked. Either way, taste is good. -Crunch: Good by taste and texture yet simple and nothing crazy. -Spider Man: Not many, probably only (I could be wrong) soft shell crab roll here but this was good. -OMG Roll: I thought this one was just okay. Just probably my preference on deep fried rolls being the least favorite. The rice portion was a bit much as well -Raider Roll: good. I liked the fried sweet potato topping as texture Appetizer: Baked Mussel - good Aaaanddd... I don't remember the rest. I noticed this place is inconsistent. Sometimes the same things that were ordered before tastes different than other visits. My last visit (lunch time) was probably the most disappointing one. Large sushi portion and they are larger rolls so may start off with 1 or 2 rolls first. I think some ppl dislike how large the rolls are, but that just means you get more bang for your buck with just one roll ! My BF and I love sharing a bento and getting 1-2 rolls here. Their mixed tempura has a variety of vegetables that include green beans and zucchini, which are not too common in tempura mixes. I always love when I find a tempura batch that has zucchini. Maybe it's because I ordered the food to go that made the food less appetizing. But this is hands down one of the most disappointing karaage chickens I have ever ordered. The pieces of chicken they chose seemed like they were discarded chicken chunks or trimmings, so when they're battered and fried it makes it hard and chewy. Aside from the texture, there was practically no flavor. Sort of just tasted like frying oil. I ate 2 pieces before giving up. As I took the takeout box out of the bag, I immediately knew something was off. The "fish" on top looked like it could be eel, and it was smothered with mayo. Upon picking up one roll, it completely fell apart. The rice was rock hard and the only thing keeping it together was the mayo. Inside was the "California roll," which was just A LOT of mayo, a small amount of imitation crab, and browning avocado. To literally top it off, there were scraps of salmon, meaning just the thin layer of gray fat and skin. No orange in site! After spending over $15 on this meal, I was hoping that it would taste better than it looked. But I was wrong! Saying it was disgusting is an understatement. Probably the grossest meal I've ever eaten. The worst part wasn't the fact that I threw it out after eating only one slice. It is that I used to be a regular here and the lion king roll used to be edible. It wasn't until these last couple visits that they did me dirty. Yes, I did give them the benefit of the doubt (because I didn't want to hate this place) and gave them this second and final chance. A simple sushi restaurant that offers a good variety of sushi and Japanese food at a slightly pricey range. The food was good enough and they also have a nice plate for serving the sushis. The Orange Blossom Roll is a slightly elevated version of a simple salmon roll. The salmon was fresh but a bit small per bite. The Unagi Roll has a barbecue flavored sauce and is tasty. The Classic Tonkotsu has a char pork flavor in it mixed with with the mild broth. It doesn't feel heavy. I really enjoy the char pork meat, but the broth could use a little more richness. If it's crowded, just go somewhere else. This place is not equipped to handle a crowd AT ALL. Truly abysmal dining experience. I love sushi so much and I was so sad after leaving this place. First of all, they were severely understaffed which contributed to a majority of the problems. 2 waiters and 2 sushi chefs, that's it. The waiters were literally running around and the sushi chefs were packing to go rolls like a conveyor belt. There was no real organization or indication of where to write your name for the wait list. People kept coming in and were so confused, but were completely ignored by the staff, creating a pile up at the door. Even the door dashers we're just standing around confused because there was no direction. We sat down, put in our order and waited. Because of the rush I figured food would take a while. But when 2 tables that came in after us got their food and finished it before we even got our drinks (~30min later), we figurdled our waiter had forgotten about us. Trying to flag him down was an arduous task as he was running around and not making eye contact with us at all. We got his attention after about 10min about our order. He disappeared for a while then told us he forgot to put it in. Forgetting is one thing, but not even being aware of who you are serving is another. Starving at this point, I wanted to leave but my boyfriend wanted to give them a chance. 10min later we get our drinks. After about another 20min our food came out. Our waiter placed down some edamame for free which was nice of him but he ran off before I could tell him that my boyfriend was very allergic and couldn't eat it. The food was not great. I've been here before not during rush and the rolls have actually been good. So when we got our food (2 rolls and the 9 piece sashimi), I was shocked to see the difference in sizes and poor quality of fish. The sashimi was tough and stringy. The rolls were barely held together. Some of the sashimi slices and rolls were literally thinner than my pinky. We never saw our server the rest of the night. Another server stopped by to ask us how everything was which was nice and we had him take the edamame away. No one ever refilled our drinks. After we were done, we had to play another game of flag down the waiter for 15min for our check. Even now that the crowd was dying out, it was still near impossible to get them. Since our waiter was so committed to ignoring us, we were able to flag down the other waiter. No compensation, no discount, nothing. Granted the second waiter was not aware of our experience since we were not his table. But to our waiter, yikes man. Heard some good things about Sake Bomb, but after trying it for myself, this place is a hard pass for me. The food itself is "meh" at best, and the prices here are NOT cheap - for the amount they charge, you can get FAR better sushi elsewhere in the area. The sushi is comically inauthentic and clearly fusion creations by amateur sushi chefs. But the worst part is that it wasn't even good fusion sushi (at least to my palette.. if you're stoned or swallow your food without chewing then you might think it's amazing). We ordered the OMG roll which sounded great in the description, but tasted like a mushy roll of wet rice (I thought it tasted like mochi or something) coated in batter and fried in oil that must've been at least a week old - but at least the spicy mayo drizzle and sashimi bits thrown on top were decent. Next up, we got the Jalapeño Bomb. Delivered a pretty solid kick, since the inside of the roll is basically just jalapeño poppers - kinda hard to mess up or dislike. But the entire roll was tiny (must've been less than an inch wide) and tasted, again, as mushed together as it looked. It was just one big savory mushy bite with not much texture or contrasting flavors. Boring! Last, we had the Hamachi sashimi. It is what it is, just raw yellowtail. Not the worst quality but nowhere close to the best either. $12 for 4 tiny pieces. I was in disbelief at how much of a rip-off this was. I think I would rather pay $12 to inhale a single molecule of some rare mushroom that I've never heard of. The servers were friendly but our food took so long to come out that I signed up for life insurance while we were waiting, fearing that I might die of old age before our food arrives. The other parties sitting around us who arrived after us AND ordered after us AND ordered 5x the amount of food all received their orders before we did. Mildly annoying. To sum it all up, the food is pretty not-that-great and painfully overpriced.
