I have been meaning to check out Hanahana for some time now and finally got around to it today for lunch. Everything is made to order and was overall delicious. The prices are reasonable and the lady working there was really nice. I had the "Hana Box" which is their lunch special that runs from 10:30am - 4pm. It's $9.95 and you get a little bento box. You can choose your main: beef (bulgogi), pork or chicken. The latter 2 are spicy, while the beef is not. I love bulgogi, so I chose the beef. I informed the lady that I can't eat sesame seeds and she said that that since everything is made to order, that would not be a problem at all. Hurray! I finally got to eat some Japchae (as most places just make a big batch and it always has sesame seeds in it, so I can never eat it). When my bento box came out, I noticed that the cucumber rolls had sesame seeds in them. I advised the lady and she apologized profusely and said she would give me a different roll. She went back into the kitchen and did just that. So my bento box had the bulgogi, japchae, some spicy marinated cucumbers, 2 futomaki and a spicy surimi crab maki. There was no rice under the bulgogi. Woo hoo! More meat and veggies! And less carbs! Win-win. The bulbogi was flavourful and tender. Most pieces were lean, but there were a few gristly pieces :( The veggies were cabbage, carrots, green onions and white onions. It was flavourful and overall good, although a tad too oily/greasy for my liking (but to be fair, if you've read a lot of my reviews, you will notice that that is a common complaint that I have). The japchae was great. The sweet potato noodles were slightly chewy and the shitake mushrooms added a nice pungent flavour. There were carrots and onions in the japchae as well. The rolls were good. The rice was fresh and the "other ingredients" to rice ratio was appropriate. I don't like rolls that are mostly rice. The spicy crab roll had a nice kick to it. The spicy marinated cucumbers also had a kick to them. I'm going to be a bit of a heretic here and say that I don't like kimchi, so I was thankful that I didn't get any in my bento box :) The place is mostly for takeout. There are only 14 seats in the restaurant; 3 tables for 4 and a raised bench by the window for 2. The place is very clean and looks new. The lady was super nice and asked me if it was my first time there. She chatted with the other customer in the restaurant who I assume is a regular because they greeted each other by name and when he left he said "see you Monday, unless it's before then!" Yeah, I guess he eats there a lot, haha. This place is not that easy to find from the street. I had been casually looking for it every time I drove on Hazeldean Rd. and never saw it. I finally went on Google Maps and that's when I realized that it's in the same strip mall as the Arby's, Pizza Hut and La Cucina. You can't really see Hanahana from Hazeldean Rd. and I don't think they are even on that big sign that lists the stores in strip malls that you can read from the street. Hanahana is tucked in at the corner next to The Co-Operators (the insurance company). As with all strip mall in the suburbs, there is plenty of free parking. If this place was closer to where I lived I would probably go more often. If you are a Kanatonian/Kanatite/Kanataer or whatever it is you call people who live in Kanata, lol, you should definitely give this place a try! read more

First and last time we will order. The Sushi was good, but the rolls had chopped up hotdogs in them. I don't see any rolls on the menu that include hotdog... so I'm not sure what kind of roll this is, but it's a weird combination, and pretty underwhelming for the price. read more

Ordered take out a few nights ago and we ate it before I could take pictures! The Bulgogi and Spicy Pork entrees were Borge delicious but a tad small for the price. The star of the show was definitely the kimchi pancakes! Huge order and delicious!!! read more

Went to this place for lunch (sit in). It has 2-3 small tables and can fit max 8 people. The bibimbap was $8.95. I was expecting a stone bowl but it was not. It's a regular bowl with a fried egg. I have been to Korea many times and it is definitely not authentic at all. My friend also tried pork bone soup. Pretty tasty but they charged 9.95 without rice? Give me a break. She needed to pay $2 for a bowl of rice. This place is too pricy for food provided. I would rather go downtown for more authentic Korean food at perhaps a lower price. read more

They are actually very authentic. This small place is run by two Korean ladies but you rarely see them working together at the same time. Sometimes, it looks like one of their daughters comes out to help too with the orders while they cook inside. The food actually tastes quite good. Pork bone soup is one of the best I have tasted even when compared to some of the famous ones I have tried in Toronto. The good part is that it is not that salty at all unlike a lot of the places. The bad part is that it does not come with rice. $1 extra for a tiny bowl of rice when a bowl of rice is commonly given when you order a pork bone soup in all Korean restaurants I have tried. Given their suburb locations in Kanata, they could really give out a bit more food just to keep the customers.coming back. At this day and age, returning customers are a must for any business to survive. I am afraid they may not last that long given they are never that busy. I hope they will survive since this is kind of a hidden gem in Kanata if you are into Korean food. One the best tasting Korean pancake I have had even when compared to the ones I had in Korea. Best in Ottawa for sure as I have been to all of the Korean restaurants here. Freshly made from scratch every time. They even give you a nice pizza box for takeout so it keeps the pancake fairly hot even after you get home with the takeout. It is better to eat it fresh and hot there of course. Everything else is more or less the same. Tastes good but small portions. Just give people a bit more food for them to come back please. Service wise, the older lady is better. When we asked the other younger lady for a bit of hot sauce as we like things a bit spicy in one of our recent visits, she would not give us any when they had it all made and packed in small containers already. She was kind of rude and said "you should buy it" and walked back into the kitchen. OK, at least let us know whether it is $0.25 or $0.50 if you want us to pay for something that is usually free. I think they will generate a lot of more business if they just adjust their attitude and give people a little bit more food and please give customers some hot sauce if they want them! Do NOT order the ribs to go unless you want to pay 20$ for 5 short ribs in a plastic bowl that is filled up a quarter of the way. Service was inattentive and they didn't seem to care about the food they were putting out. Avoid at all costs and go to Kung Fu Bistro in Stittsville instead. read more

I just came in for the first time. Once you walk through the door the eating area is fairly clean and things look tidy. The bell rings when the door opens. There seemed to be one person working and I waited at the cash register for 15 minutes ish before the woman came to the front to take my order. This is ridiculous. I was about to walk out when she came up and gave someone else their order. When she took my order, she wasn't speaking clear English i could barely understand her. I ended up ordering the Hana box. Which I wasn't even clear on what was in it. All I understood was California roll and beef with rice. When I got my food I noticed the California rolls were NOT California rolls. They were just avocado and cucumber rolls and there was barely any beef or rice in the damn box. Disappointment is an understatement. read more

If you want ice-cold, rock-hard sushi, go to this place. We were excited to try this place after reading Yelp reviews, but we couldn't be more disappointed. We ordered a sushi combo and was told by the owner to take a plastic sushi box sitting in a display fridge. We were hesitated since we had no idea when it was made, but we took it because we already paid for the food and we decided to trust the owner. The sushi was not fresh at all. The rice was too cold and hard. You could get better sushi from a grocery store or university cafeteria. We were so hungry that we ended up eating it all, but it was painful to eat it. The other dish we ordered was Dak Gangjeong (Korean-style fried chicken with hot and sweet sauce) which was recommended by the owner. It was also disappointing. Although it was not directly from the fridge, the chicken was not crispy but soggy and the sauce tasted cheap. We were born in Korea and we have lived in Japan, so we know East Asian food. Maybe the other dishes could be better, but we think it can never be justified to serve a pre-made sushi from a fridge. The problem of this place is the attitude, not only the chef's skill. It is a shame since the owner seemed to be a nice lady and we always try to support small businesses run by Korean people. Ottawa is not the best place to have East Asian food, but there are certainly some better Korean restaurants and sushi places in Ottawa. read more

We ordered the Bibimbap with beef for take out (5 orders in total, and not cheap)...we were really looking forward to it, as we'd had it before in another restaurant and loved it. Everyone was so disappointed, and my son and husband didn't even finish theirs. There was hardly any beef in it- just a couple of little wee pieces here and there, if you looked close enough . Nothing like the picture up in the restaurant! And the egg was tough and non-edible. Will never order from there again. Sorry, for the review...I really wanted to love it. read more

The place is tiny but clean. Pork bone soup is just ok but a little pricy cause the portion is not worth to cost that price.

Great food and friendly services. I love the Hanahana salad and sushi. They have the best sushi in town. I will definately go back.

great little korean joint in Kanata. it's more of a take out place but does have a few tables to eat in. had their soon dubu jiggae which had pieces of bulgogi which made it quite tasty. will definitely come back again. a great place for a quick and healthy bite to eat before a sens game. read more
