10/10, this place is SO good. Honestly still thinking about that salmon teriyaki and the seafood tofu stew we ordered (which didn't make the cut for the photos cause it was literally devoured within 2 minutes). It was our first-time trying it because the original restaurant we wanted to go to on Somerset was closed, but we were definitely not let down. They open at 11:30 on the weekend and we were a bit early but the staff was super friendly and accommodating- letting us sit down, browse the menu and even place our order before they "officially" opened. Out of all the dine-in korean restaurants we've tried so far in Ottawa (which I know is quite limited and most aren't authentic- but that's not to say they aren't good): Alirang, Maht, Daldongnae, etc. This is definitely top tier AND we will be coming back. As a small business, they are generous with their refillable complimentary side dishes (which is so yum), the flavour HITS, and the service is so good and welcoming. They kept checking in with us, turned down the volume to the TV that we were sitting under, and kept refilling our tea. inside the restaurant is also quite spacious and has comfortable seating arrangements. We ordered the Bento Boxes (him - tempura and Bulkoki; me - Bulkoki and Teriyaki chicken). I can say with a hand on my heart that we loved it all. The whole platter was amazing, from the Salad to the noodles, from the soup to the rice and meats, to the kimchi and the dressed mixed vegetables. The Bulkoki meat is quite lean and the Teriyaki Chicken has the sweetness of dark meat. This is exactly the meat I choose to use when I'm cooking these dishes at home (I love to cook) There was so much food that we both have lunch today. They give you an enormous portion of meat, and I got dark meat teriyakI; the only way to have it. My husband raved about how the tempura was of all the good stuff (sweet potato and shrimps) and none of the stuff he doesn't like. And the chicken was just delicious. It's never going to be like home cooked but this is as good an approximation as I've eaten in Ottawa I'd show you a photo but we ate too quickly, we were hungry. I could show you the left overs I suppose...it was all really delicious. We loved it. And we're very faithful to restaurants we've had success with so I'll keep you updated. It's always a crap shoot on yelp. but these guys do a great job.The food arrived at the earliest moment of the window we were given. The delivery guy was sweet and polite. And the price was good for what you get. Oh yes, they keep the miso safe in a separate bowl so that you can mix in the miso and the soup at the last moment. The miso comes fully dissolved so it's a simple liquid into liquid pour. It keeps the miso fresher than I've had at any delivery restaurant in town. The food came in a plastic tray resembling a Bento Box and performed as well as any bento box. Just thinking about it is making my stomach growl. This is my favorite Korean restaurant in Ottawa. The food is excellent!! But every time we come here there's an issue: table beside the door causes a chilly draft, tables too close together, reservation issue.... The restaurant itself is small and has a lot of tables. On cold days if the place is busy, you might have to keep your jacket on if you get seated beside the front door that is continuously opening and closing. Sometimes you sit very close to the table beside you, like, there's not enough room to walk in between tables close. The demographic also causes the servers to be overwhelmed. Everytime we go, there's always a table that doesn't seem to know how table bbq work. This was a conversation I witnessed earlier: "Oh it's too hot. Turn it down" "Now it's off. How do you turn it back on?" The sides are always fresh (unlimited marinated potatoes, yes please.). If you have more than 2 people in your party, I recommend going before the lunch rush. Lingering patrons mean that reservations are not always a guarantee... I really want to give Korean House 5 stars, but their small space can cause some issues. I realize that they want to make as much profit as possible, but they really wedge people into every available spot. Yum! We were craving for Korean food while vacationing in the area and Yelp landed us here! When we stepped in, we were worried that it wasn't going to be good since the place is Chinese run but I was so wrong! The food here I don't think it's authentic Korean but with an Asian fusion twist and the flavors were so yummy! I had the kalbi bibimbap and it was delicious. The flavor sort of reminded me of the black pepper sauce steak I used to eat in Taiwan. My father who had the eel bibimbap said it was the best he's ever had! The seafood pancake was definitely not your authentic pancake as it packed with artificial crab meat but it was still crispy and yum! The food was very tasty and good size portions. The miso soup was vert flavourful, the Japanese pancakes were a little soggy but otherwise tasty. The chicken bibimbap was delicious, really good heat with the chili sauce and the crispy rice was a great flavour boost. Really enjoyed my first visit here last night. Having had amazing Korean BBQ in New York and Seoul, I wasn't quite sure what to expect especially for the reasonably priced dinner buffet. The experience was terrific. The owner Lien was very hospitable and seated us about 20 minutes earlier after we called despite a full house. The meat was very fresh and plentiful with attentive service. The small kimchi plates were some of the best I have ever tasted (flavorful but not too spicy). The flavours are great and they actually help you cook it at the table. Perhaps it was because it was a bit quiet when we were there but we certainly appreciated the help while we ate and chatted. After hearing a lot from other people about how good Korean House was (especially for Korean BBQ), we finally had a chance to try it with a large group on a Monday evening. There were 10 of us, so it was great that they could accommodate us in such a small space. I've been at this location before when it was briefly a pho restaurant and the setup looks similar. Eight of us did the AYCE Korean BBQ and two ordered from the regular menu. The two had to be seated separately, but that's understandable since the rest of us did the buffet. The selection on the AYCE was short, but I was surprised (and happy) to see non-BBQ items there, such as bibimpap, Korean pancake, dumplings, jap chae, etc. You can also order a maximum one order of seafood (shrimp/squid) and two orders of kalbi (beef short ribs). There was already one grill set up on the farther side of the table; but when two of us came later, they set up another grill on the end closer to the aisle. Because it was more easily accessible to the server, or perhaps because we had a baby and didn't have enough hands for cooking, they commandeered the grill for us and cooked all our meats (on our side of the table). Amazing (and fast) service! The food tasted amazing too! I really liked how we can order more of the sides as well, not just meats. The bibimpap, Korean pancake, dumplings, and jap chae were also good, even though they were just add-ons to the grilled meats for the BBQ. And for 24.95 per person (at time of writing), what a deal! We were definitely stuffed after! I docked a star for some minor things, although don't get me wrong - overall it was definitely a great dining experience. One - some of our orders were missed, which we ended up getting much later when we were already full. Two - the portions for the sides (especially the jap chae) kept increasing every time we ordered more... probably because we kept ordering more or it was end of day and they wanted to get rid of whatever they had left. This made it harder to finish, especially when it came half an hour after it was ordered, near the end of the meal. Three - the servers who came and cooked for us were really great, but I noticed they mixed up the raw and cooked tongs at least once, which is not cool (but could have happened if we cooked the meats ourselves, but still). And four - why is there no rice on the AYCE menu?! Overall, I'm glad we got to experience Korean BBQ at Korean House. It was even worth smelling like the BBQ after! It's great value for the food you get and it was quite tasty. We also liked the fast service, even though it was sometimes spotty. If we're ever in the mood for Korean BBQ again, it would be an easy decision to come back! read more

I had lunch here with my parents. I'd give this place a 3.5 actually, but Yelp doesn't allow half stars. Overall, the food was good, but a bit on the oily/greasy side. I had the Original Bibimbap ($12.95). It comes in a hot stone bowl, which I loved because my meal stayed hot until the end. It had rice, beef bulgogi, julienned carrots, sliced zucchini, bean sprouts, lettuce, and a fried egg. It didn't have any of the "more exotic" ingredients usually found in Bibimbap like gosari or doraji. There weren't any radishes, spinach or mushrooms either. I would have liked to have had more of a variety of ingredients, but that being said, the dish did not taste bad. It was good except for being too oily for my tastes. I liked that the beef was lean and not all gristly. Portion size was large and I was really full afterwards. My parents both had their Bento Box specials ($15.95). My mom got the beef bulgogi and tempura one, and my dad got the spicy beef bulgogi and chicken teriyaki one. Both Bento Boxes had 2 mandu (meat dumplings), a salad, white rice, and a piece of fried tofu. The tempura combo came with 4 tempura shrimp. I was pleasantly surprised by this because most restaurants give you like 1 or at most 2 shrimp and the other pieces are vegetable tempura. I had a shrimp tempura, and it was ok, but it wasn't all that crispy and didn't have that authentic tempura taste. It tasted more like battered shrimp. I also had a dumpling, and it too was just ok. My parents both found their portion sizes were large. My mom commented that she got so much beef. This was not a complaint by any means. I feel that they should make the portions smaller and lower the price. However, from a business standpoint, I can understand the reasoning behind bigger portions at higher prices. Bigger portions are so people feel that they got their money's worth and higher prices mean each diner spends more money (the incremental cost of bigger portions is much less than the bigger profit from the higher price tag). In a smaller city like Ottawa where you might not have as many diners a day, you need each diner to spend a lot. In contrast, in a larger city like Toronto, you can make up for it in volume. Each diner spends less, but you get a lot of diners. So perhaps there is nothing wrong with the portion sizes or prices here, but maybe I am living in the wrong city, but that is another topic for another time. We got complimentary tea as soon as we arrived. It tasted like a roasted tea to me. Perhaps rice, corn or barley tea. The first cup was nice and hot. They did come by to refill the tea several times without prompting (which I appreciated) but the refills were not hot, just lukewarm. We also got complimentary miso soup, vegetable pancake, and 3 banchan dishes: julienned radish, kimchi, and potato cubes. I liked the pancake the best. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Service was courteous and efficient. They checked up on us appropriately. This restaurant is where the short-lived Pho Com Vietnam used to be. The tables and chairs are the exact same. It's relatively new and clean. The washrooms are single room and spacious and clean. You have to press a red button to lock the door. There is a different red button to press in the event of an emergency and you need help (the door unlocks and an alarm sounds). I have only seen this set up in hospitals before, not restaurants (although the washroom was like this when the restaurant was Pho Com Vietnam). Both buttons are clearly marked, so don't confuse the buttons, haha. This restaurant is in Chinatown, so street parking only. read more

Decided to try this place out today. We shared these dishes between 2 people. Had the seafood pancake as an appetizer. Pancake was generously filled with seafood and didn't feel greasy at all. Then we had the bulgogi and the saeng sun ji gae. Bulgogi was flavorful, and the meat was soft and tender. However, we ordered it extra spicy and the dish didn't come as spicy as we expected it to be. For the saeng sun ji gae( soft tofu seafood soup) it had a rich broth and was rich in flavor. Overall it was good and will try this place again. Maybe because this place is quite new and it wasn't so crowded, but the food was prepared more carefully than some of other more popular korean restaurant. Every dish was prepared with attention. As a commentator said previously, the owner and chef seem more Vietnamese than korean, so knowledge of some dishes is lacking. For example, I was craving Tteokbokki, and asked if they had it but the one serving us didn't seem to know what it is, at first and I had to explain it to him. Maybe the manager can employ people with more knowledge of korean food and speak korean. This, I think will help them build up their reputation. Overall it was a good experience, even though it may not be food served by koreans and some may say it lacks 'authenticity', food was good and tasty. This restaurant just opened 4 days ago and I was super happy to have another Korean restaurant in town amongst the sea of pho restaurants in Chinatown. Korean restaurants seemed to always be packed and have lineups -- they're getting popular for sure! The restaurant itself is pretty small in size: there's about 8-9 tables. Some 6 seaters, 4 seater and 2 seaters. The decor is very modern and clean with the colors and interior design. Waiters were Korean and very attentive to checking up on us :) tea was refilled plenty of times! I ordered the Dak Bokkuem which is a chicken dish with vegetables in a spicy Korean paste-- the presentation of the food was actually very cute! Stacked well and garnished with sesame seeds and green onion. Side dishes they served: Korean potato, radish, kim chi, bean sprouts and miso soup ! Will be back for sure! read more

I've been to Korean House at least 5 times now. And every time I walk in, I'm too excited to remember to yelp about it! Every time I've visited this restaurant, I was greeted warmly and seated to a table right away. Lunch on Saturdays are the best because it is usually not too busy. The hot pots are amazing. The bulgogi hot pot is by far my favorite that I've ever had at any Korean restaurants. It's massive, and even though it's meant for 2 people, it's so big that my 2 friends and I had a hard time finishing it all between the 3 of us. The kimchi hot pot is also very delicious. Their single serving dishes, so far, have all been great as well (highly recommend the kimchi tofu soup in hot stone bowls). There are always side dishes (4 kinds) served, and a serving of vegetarian pancake before the meal. An extra special touch that I find is worth noting, because most other places only provide select side dishes. The prices are also all very reasonable. For the hot pots, my friends and I always walk away only paying around 15$ each, which is quite a steal in my opinion. Highly recommended! Well, it took me having to come all the way from Atlanta, GA, to get the best Bibimbap, but I found it here. Made properly in a stone bowl the flavors were intense and the rice came out crispy, just like it is supposed to be. Excellent service with friendly staff which spoke both Cantonese and Vietnamese. The portion sizes were very generous and the place was super clean. What surprised us the most was the complimentary miso soup and fried pork dumplings that accompanied the standard side dishes. We ordered the seafood pancake which had the typical squid and shrimp but also included some imitation crab. Not bad but the pancake could have been a bit more crispy. Seems to be improving quite a bit. I'm not sure how but the same menu items have become bigger. I got heap of meat for the Korean sliced barbecue beef I ordered and I can swear the stone pot bowls were at least 1.5 times bigger than the standard. Soup is hearty. For those new to Korean casual dining places in Ontario, they serve more than four free side dishes; free refills on this too, but for some reason I only noticed Asians asking for it. Maybe it's a politeness thing. Maybe people just don't know. Now you know. Cons: Have to say it gets kind of crowded. read more

I went there with a couple friends after noticing the other restaurant that we wanted to visit was at max capacity. So we stumbled upon this place and were pleasantly surprised. We ended up asking for the all you can eat option which was 22.95$, where we were served a variety of meats which included, beef, chicken, short rib and pork. Various sides were also included with the meal and since it was all you can eat, you could as for more. I'm giving it a 4 because the food was really good but service not so much. This was due to having only one server who was occupied with a large group behind us. So we had to get up and go to the counter every time we needed something instead of just raising our hand or buzzing someone which is usually offered at other restaurants. Overall I think it was a really good price for the amount of food that we got. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. My one note would be that (as I've experienced in a few other Korean/Chinese/Vietnamese places) we had to flag her down at the end to get our bill and have our dishes taken away. I tried to go to my usual Korean restaurant last night only to found it closed until tomorrow so we ventured down the street to this place. We were welcomed when we walked in and sat right away. As a group we decided to go for the AYCE so when the waiter came by and asked us if we were ready to order we looked at each other and everyone nodded and then turned and the waiter was already gone. We eventually got our order in and ordered 1 of everything you can from the AYCE menu and the waiter seemed very confused, we ordered drinks (soft drinks as they have no liquor licence) and they didn't ask everyone and had to be asked several times to bring the drinks. They only brought one soy sauce for the table which was disappointing because being a group of 5 it meant having to continually pass it around. The pancakes were delicious and the dumplings weren't the best I have had but still decent. We had to ask several times for rice, even though they said it came with it and one waiter didn't seem to understand us at all. The meat that came was delicious - the short ribs were a nice touch that I haven't had at any other Korean AYCE and they were my favourite part. We usually ask for lettuce to make wraps but given what a hard time we were having to order we didn't. The glass noodles never showed up on the table and we ordered more meat and they came out and tried to walk away without giving it to us - presumably forgetting where it was going. After we had all our food and were almost done they came out and offered us a chefs special fried chicken dish, which we accepted and was good. The food is definitely good but our service was horrible, which means I probably won't come back here. When we went to pay my brother asked to pay for two people and the waiter didn't understand what she meant so ended up paying for everyone because at this point we were tired of continually trying to explain what we wanted. The food is good and there were a good amount of people coming and going, plus they let you take food home that is leftover from the AYCE (which I have never seen before) but the service was not so great. read more
