    Bibimbap w/ sides

Craving some Korean one evening and ended up at Dolsot based on reviews. The menu isn't huge, and it seems the more reasonable priced items are on the lunch menu (Before 2:30pm). I opted for the Bi-bim-bap which was about $12-$13. It came with a small plate of sides- Kimchi, bean sprouts and potatoes. Tastewise it was very standard and well cooked for bi-bim-bap, but not enough to fill you up for sure. Not the best value you can find. Service- 4/5 Cleanliness- 4/5 Atmosphere- 3/5 Food- 3/5 Location- 5/5 Would i return? No

Visiting Ottawa and was craving for Korean and had high expectations for a four star place. I guess it's only from under 5 reviews. Located near some restaurants, gas station, and connected to a grocery store which I think is owned by same owner? We couldn't find the entrance and realized it's the same entrance as the grocery store, interesting. There is around 10 tables or so and another sectioned off ish room with built in Korean BBQ tables. When we were there, 2-4 tables/parties were there for dinner. We planned on going to a few places back to back for dinner and got the bibimbap in stone bowl 11.95 and the chicken hot pot ddak galbi 38.95 which was the new item that was the most expensive on hot pot, says that it serves 2-3. Pot is large but not too deep, look can be deceiving sometimes! Ha it came with 2 rice. The 3 sides were good, something I always look for trying at all Korean places! One of our friend never had Korean before and was amazed at this hot pot idea. What is funny is that they brought it out the propane burner and the everything in the pot was cold! We waited for 10 minutes but it was didn't even reach boiling temperature! We were hungry and just staring at the thing for it to cook! I wish it was cooked and then brought out or at least with the soup and chicken being cooked! It was all in the pot in raw form, raw chicken, vegetables etc. as much as we wanted to eat it, patience is not our friend when we are hungry! Since it's chicken, it took a while to cook too. Thank goodness the propane burned out so we got another one which made it cook so much faster! Overall interesting experience!

Dolsot Café is just a little hole in the wall with sticky tables but it's so worth it! It's right next door to the Arum Market and shares the same entrance. Whenever I'm craving Korean, this Dolsot Café is where I go. It is consistent, quick and tasty. I almost always take the yukgaejang or the sangseunjang. Everything always come with the sticky rice and a small plate of three banchan (Korean side dishes, most often pickles). The banchans are the one criticism I would have about this place. Although they make the city's best kimchi, they don't give out nearly enough of it and neither do they give enough of their other two banchans. They also don't switch them around often enough. You always get kimchi and then almost always caramelized potatoes and kongnamul muchim, but sometimes you get oi muchim. I wish they would served kaktugi.

Good food in a quaint restaurant at the corner of Bank and Arlington. Dolsot Café's menu offers classic Korean favourites, including bibimbap, bulgogi and soups. Overall the food is tasty and authentic, with big portions enough to satisfy anyone's Korean cravings. However, this restaurant still can't compare to Alirang's quality of food and explosive tastes. With a little more seasoning, a little less cook on the meat and a lot more sauce, Dolsot has the potential to be one of the best Korean restaurants in Ottawa.

I got off from the ottawa terminal and was super hungry. So i came across this korean restaurant located right next to the gas station. I ordered a soon-dou-bu jigae with seafood for $12.95, but was disappointed by the little amount of seafood there was compared to tofu. It tasted ok. Also i found a little piece of plastic packagibg in my soup which i think is not acceptable. But i just hope this doesn't happen again. So i'm giving it 3 stars

Cute spot. Definitely a hidden gem. Server was very friendly and service was fast. The food was also very good and good serving. The price was also comparable to other places. Definitely recommend this place. Clean and tidy restaurant. Lots of seating available here.

Great little Korean care. Reasonably priced and still very much open! We ordered the giant hot bowl of dduk-bak-ki which was filled to the brim with rice cakes, ramen, dumplings, kimchi and more! I would have liked to see more than 2 dumplings but for the price it was good. Super tasty and even though the restaurant was full the wait wasn't too long. We also ordered a dol sot bibimbap.

I write this with a heavy heart because I do not want to detract from anyone's business or ability to make a living but I would be doing a disservice if I did not share the most uncomfortable and unappetizing experience to date. The server was not focused and quite scattered and the word sorry was said so often that I began to believe it was the only word she knew. Took her about 10 minutes to take our orders after dropping off menus. Rushed us to decide and was so fast to get away that she did not take our drink order. I counted 5 tables and 2 servers and I did this job for 14 years so no, I am not a bitch to servers. I finally flagged her down to ask for drinks and she took our orders. I asked for a Coke Zero and got Diet Coke but whatever. The bbq arrived about 25 minutes after the order was taken and it was missing miso soup which doesn't come with it anymore, though nothing was stated in the menu. Our bbq burnt out twice, no sides (that came 10 minutes later) and there were only three choices, the sweet potato, kimchi and seaweed salad. It was so bad I recommend driving to Toronto and pick any Korean joint and skip this place. Horrible food and service. The best thing about this place was the poor guy who worked in the kitchen who was forced to ring us through at the cash. Great sense of humour and had a personality. Never again and I will be telling everyone I know not to waste your time and money. Horrible...I have never shut down at a restaurant because I was so shocked and disappointed at the whole experience. I will say this, there was another table of Korean speaking women where I noticed were making our server nervous, maybe that had something to do with her unfocused behaviour and lack of warmth. It was a weird vibe and experience. That was the first time I have ever felt so unwelcomed and dismissed. I'll wait to go back to Toronto....this place is so bad!

wow they were big portions. there are 2 rooms you can go to to eat. really relaxing and calm atmosphere. nice and great food. would like to come again

The food is great! On the cheaper side for korean food and has a grocery store right beside it (sells mainly korean items). Less side dishes than expected but those given were very well made. Service is a bit slow but I think the wait is worth while.

My fish tofu soup is good, hot and spicy! But the seafood pancake is disappointing, not much seafood there. With its location, I found this place is pricy.

Love this place. Family home-styled cooking. Friendly people and good food. Even the side dishes were generous. My order was the pork bone soup with rice. Excellent price too. About $9.

The restaurant is connected to the Arum Korean Market, a Korean grocery store. The food is ok, I still think Arirang is the best Korean restaurant in town.

Chicken bul go gi $14.95 very delicious

It was our first-time trying it because the original restaurant we wanted to go to on Somerset was closed, but we were definitely not let down. They open at 11:30 on the weekend and we were a bit early but the staff was super friendly and accommodating- letting us sit down, browse the menu and even place our order before they "officially" opened. Out of all the dine-in korean restaurants we've tried so far in Ottawa (which I know is quite limited and most aren't authentic- but that's not to say they aren't good): Alirang, Maht, Daldongnae, etc. This is definitely top tier AND we will be coming back. As a small business, they are generous with their refillable complimentary side dishes (which is so yum), the flavour HITS, and the service is so good and welcoming. They kept checking in with us, turned down the volume to the TV that we were sitting under, and kept refilling our tea. inside the restaurant is also quite spacious and has comfortable seating arrangements. The restaurant is clean and tidy, which made the experience even more pleasant. Service was attentive, though with only a few tables it's hard to fully judge. Still, everything we needed was taken care of. The food was fresh, portions were generous, and prices felt fair. I especially appreciated that their pancake wasn't overly oily like you often find elsewhere. Dishes leaned on the milder side which made it easy to enjoy everything. The kimchi was a little salty, but the pickled radish was a nice balance. Big plus: they serve Asahi draft, which you don't see everywhere. One small miss was the sundubu being accidentally left off our order, but no big deal, just an excuse to come back and try it next time along with the Kalbi. Seating was comfortable, and I loved the individual wireless table lamps at each table which added a nice touch. Overall, a great first experience and I would definitely return to explore more of the menu.

The tteokbokki or rice cakes were good. The texture was perfectly chewy and the sauce was spicy and sweet. However, for the price, I found the portion to be a bit stingy. The bowl looks large but there isn't much in it, and considering rice cakes aren't that expensive I'm surprised they gave so little. The chicken drumsticks were tasty, but a tad dry. Not sure if it's because they slit it open at various places to let it cook faster. It didn't have the same type of coating as other Korean fried chicken I tried either. Overall, service is attentive and food is good. However, I think I have other places that I prefer for Korean fried chicken in Ottawa.

Ordered an Asahi Super Dry and an order of Beoseot Bulgogi. The beer was super cold, and the Bulgogi came sizzling hot (with a cup of rice and three side bowls) side bowls were toasted sesame flavoured bean sprouts, sweet sauce on turnip, and kimchi). The Bulgogi was not as flavourful as I've had at other establishments. But otherwise it enjoyed. Servers are not very personable. No greeting, just ask how many, seat me in a booth with menu and a slip of paper to write my choice on. 20 minutes later had to wave at them to comeback to take the slip. Btw, at the Merrivale location don't take the first booth, the door is inches behind your bench and everytime the door opens you are blasted with cold air. One other interesting thing to note. My bill didn't seem to be correct. I noticed it was a little higher than I expected, but I tipped 20% and left. I was only given the transaction record. The bulgogi on their menu is $15.95 (as per website), I am pretty sure the beer was $7.95. That totals $23.90. But my bill was $34.92 before tip. $41.90 after tip. So, something happened. But I guess it's my fault for not bringing it up while there.

The side dishes were also quite good! My mandu were slightly burnt/over fried but the delicious and unique filling paired with the good sauce provided made it fine. My only issue is that when I try and return, craving their hearty kimchi stew on a cold day, their hours don't match what's posted online or on the paper outside their restaurant? For example, there's a paper sign on the door that says they take a break from x-3pm , on a day I was reallly looking forward to the comforting stew and warm vibes. I check at 3pm and their OPEN sign is off, alright maybe they need a minute or 2, so I do some rounds and pass by it a few times with it still being closed, I go back home and come back around 4:30 which is well past their reopening time and it's still closed. I gave up cause I was starving and went elsewhere. If this could be updated or made more clear then this review would be much higher. I love the food and it's genuinely authentic Korean food but it's frustrating having plans to go for lunch or even an early dinner and having them squashed by an inconsistent hours schedule.
