I've been eating here for years. I love their lunch options. Usually very good service and all options are tasty.

It was one of the restaurants that are highly rated in Ottawa. Was actually pretty disappointed. There was not enough servers in the restaurant, so there was quite a bit of delay and try to get your order or the bill It is actually pretty hard to read, because there were a few items that I really really enjoyed and then a few items that I really did not enjoy, leaving me with a mixed review. The handrail, I thought was quite substantial and will filled with lots of fresh tuna. The vegetable tempura was a great selection and portion. I did find some items pretty disappointing. For example, the chicken karage was more or less deep fried chicken nuggets from a freezer bag. Experience and atmosphere with a little bit lacklustre. The sushi I found very average, and I would say is too expensive for the price read more

This restaurant does not deliver on what it advertises on the menu and website. It's not an all-you-can-eat restaurant, and the prices are inconsistent with the type of service. I definitely do not recommend it. read more

Good quality sushi with fresh indegridents. We've done pick up here a few times and the food is always on time for pick up. Staff is friendly. The price is fair for the quantity and the quality. I would go back again when I have a sushi craving. read more

So polite staff nice welcoming restaurant clean and fun decor sushi is inventive fresh and delicious highly recommend

Nice sushi place. Tip: parking is in the back. What's nice is the service option that comes with a salad and miso soup. All sushi here were excellent. Very cute vibe to the restaurant. Would definitely come here on a date again. read more

This was some of the freshest tasting sushi I've had in Ottawa. You can tell that it was top quality fish and it was prepared in a way where no single ingredient overpowered another. I had the Alaska, CAA, Dynamite and Spicy Salmon rolls, plus the Edamame. Would recommend them all. As for service, it was super busy so they were doing everything as fast as they could so I appreciate how attentive they were with the crowds. Finally, the ambiance was nice. I liked how the tables had blockers between other tables so it gave a sense of privacy while not making it feel closed off or intimate. read more

My friend ordered take out from Sapporo Sushi. I can't comment on the price of the food, but I can say that the food was excellent. All of the fish was extremely fresh, tender and flavourful. I was extremely impressed with the rolls and sashimi. The rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I also can't comment on vegetarian or vegan options, but for those of you looking for fresh, well made sushi, try Sapporo Sushi. read more

We ordered take out yesterday and it just hit the spot.. lots of funky rolls for example the French kiss had apples in it which made it yummy and unique , there was snow something that had torched tuna on top, one had crispy sweet potatoes..it was on the expensive side of sushi but we really enjoyed the freshness and variety. Their pick up is very efficient and safe would definitely order again read more

All my peeps know I'm a sushi snob. Having lived in California, most every bit of sushi we get in Ottawa PALES in comparison in terms of freshness and quality to what you get on the coasts. It's not like we should be surprised by this...this is not a revelation. It's just a fact. And it's the reason I don't do sushi in Ottawa when i don't have to. Anyways... Sapporo is one of the few decent places to have sushi in Ottawa. The fish tastes fresh and it's sliced thick and with care. The lunch specials are priced reasonably and service is good. Will surely return. read more

What a gem! Incredible food and service! Best sushi in Ottawa by far with a lot of options. Food was prepared quickly and was delicious with every bite. I was amazed how the spring rolls stayed crispy and hot despite sitting on my plate for more than a few minutes. It will not be long before I return back to Sapporo Sushi for another great evening of Sushi! read more

I got takeout here for my husband and I. I was excited to try this place because of all the good reviews and because it's close to my house but in the end I think it's just ok and definitely not the best sushi I've ever had. Their lunch specials are very reasonably priced. The specials are 11am-3pm and range in price from $7.95 to $12.95. I got the Chicken Teriyaki Lunch Special ($7.95) and the California and Dynamite Rolls Lunch Special ($9.95). All specials come with miso soup, salad, and 2 fried dumplings. I came in at 12:15pm. There were 4 diners in the restaurant and 2 people waiting for takeout. I was told it would be 40 minutes for my takeout order (!) Good thing I live close by. I said ok, I'll be back in 40 minutes and went home and flaked around. But seriously, 40 minutes for lunchtime takeout seems a bit long to me. Anyway, I came back at 1pm and had to wait another 5 minutes or so. Not a huge deal, since I'd rather have fresh food than having had it sit in a takeout container for a long period of time. The hostess was super nice and offered me a glass of water while I waited. Now when I placed my order, I said no sesame seeds. When I got home I was very glad to see that the Maki rolls were made without sesame seeds (since this was my meal and I can't eat sesame seeds), but there were sesame seeds sprinkled on top of the Teriyaki Chicken and the rice that came with it. Not a big deal in this case since the Teriyaki meal was my husband's and he can eat sesame seeds, but technically the order was wrong. The rolls had good rice to other ingredients ratio. The California Rolls were ok, I felt they were pretty standard. I did not like the Dynamite Rolls. I felt the tempura shrimp was way too oily/greasy and the added mayo made the roll too fatty tasting. The dumplings were ok, but again I didn't feel like it was anything special. They were meaty on the inside and crispy on the outside. The soup was ok. It had cubes of soft tofu and pieces of wakame seaweed. It wasn't too salty. The salad was mostly iceberg lettuce with some slices of cucumber, and thin strings of carrots and beets. My husband said his teriyaki meal was ok. I do like that all takeout containers are compostable. The mains were in a divided paper box and not styrofoam. The soups and salads were also in paper containers. The restaurant did look cool inside. Overall food was ok, but I don't think it will be my go-to place for sushi around here. There is free parking in the back of the restaurant (entrance on Carling Ave slightly east of the restaurant). The parking lot to the west of the restaurant belongs to a different plaza. read more

The sushi and maki rolls were good. We went with the regular rather than their specialty rolls since thise are a bit on the pricy side. First off, this place has a lot to be desired for sense of urgency. My gosh they were soooooooooo slow. Quality was decent but portion size for the money also has much to be desired. Was it good? Yes Was it fresh? Yes But for the money there are several options in the area that not only give better portions but give much faster service. We ordered 7 rolls and salads along with tempura and chicken teriyaki. It took almost 2 hours to get the food. I asked twice for a second drink that never came. And they never asked once if everything was okay or if we needed anything. Is it good? Sure. Would I go back? Probably not. A for quality. D for service read more

I have very little words for this place but here goes. Convenient location, fast and super friendly service and the food.. Is literally my best sushi experience in Ottawa so far. The restaurant itself is fairly large, but with the wooden dividers it makes it very cosy and cute. Very clean as well. The back door entrance is also very convenient. Edit: I just want to mention the service was fast, both times I've been here but they were each at around 5:30 on weeknights. read more

Thoroughly disappointed by how long we had to wait for our food. I'm writing this as I wait so I'm sure feelings are a bit amplified but I think it's ridiculous to wait 1hr to get our sashimi-sushi platter. That was after waiting 15min just to get menus, and another 15 to get plates and cutlery. Our waitress offered no explanation until I sought her out multiple times. Taste of food was average from what I could tell. Karage was over battered. Udon and tempura were average. I can't comment on the actual sushi or rolls since we're still waiting... This was after pre ordering the family platter a day before. I don't think I can recommend this experience to anyone. UPDATE: After 1.5hr, we opted to get the platter to go. The family platter included California, dynamite, and spicy tuna. I added a spider roll thinking we wouldn't have enough food - regretted it after since it was overbattered, stiff in texture, and bizarrely included arugula inside. Spicy tuna roll was good, as well as salmon sashimi. The rest tasted no different than your typical ayce. read more

Despite living near here, I've never been and now I'm kicking myself for never trying it before. Our previous favourite sushi place in Ottawa closed down a while back and while the AYCE sushi buffets can serve a purpose, it's nice to treat yourself to some really good sushi. Sapporo meets that need, at least for me. The sushi (sashimi) we had was very good. The value is quite good (really not that much more than going to an AYCE place) and the service is top notch. I'll definitely go back again. read more

I re-activated my Yelp just to give this sushi place a review because I always love to see small businesses thrive, and also because we want this place to succeed because their food is really good. I noticed they were new but did not give them any thought until my husband and I were having a late night craving. They were the only sushi place open nearby, at midnight, so we decided to take a chance. We are so glad we did. The food is absolutely superb and the sashimi, nigiri, and even maki rolls were melt-in-your-mouth heavenly! Their special rolls are about 9-10 pieces averaging 12-17 each. If you think about it, a standard roll is 6 and some restaurants charge that much for 6 pieces. You are getting a deal. We got the "lasagna roll", "spider roll", and "rose roll" with squid nigiri and the sashimi appetiser. The spider roll here is especially great because they don't put any fillers of avocado and cucumber - just straight up soft-shell crab and some arugula. They also offer complementary miso soup and salad and even those tasted fantastic. The miso soup is the best I have ever had, beating the favourite we have back home. With tip it amounted to around $65 for two people. Very reasonable for good sushi and also for feeling satisfied and not feeling like crap when going to an AYCE, too. We're from the West and moved to Ottawa for professional reasons. No offence to Ottawa, the sushi out here sucks - it's either AYCE or overpriced "trendy" sushi places. There is no middle ground. This is going to be our regular sushi place! Our poor wallets, though. read more

Their website doesn't work with Safari, Chrome or Firefox on my iPad. It worked okay using Chrome on a MacBook. As a result of the errors when viewing their website using an iPhone we ordered several unwanted items or we given several items by error. I'll take the blame, we started a list and didn't fully double checked it when we switched to the MacBook. The food was ready on time as indicated when ordered and the quality was good, but when ordering food, I generally like to get what I expect. I contacted the owner and he indicated that his web designer said they couldn't support Safari AND Chrome, but at least on my iPad Chrome didn't work either. read more

My partner and I decided to give this place a try as all the other sushi places were already closed by 10pm. The amount of care and passion that was put into the food was obvious. We ordered the "Love Platter" which came with miso soup, salad, tempura and bulgogi. Everything was a 10; from quality to quantity to what the dish was served in. Even the miso soup tasted more authentic than all the others we had tried in the past. We got to know that our server happened to be the owner, co owning the restaurant with his brother. This explained the quality of food and good service. It was an experience rather than just good food. We are definitely coming back here! read more

First time here on a weekday dinner. We arrived pretty late for a weekday dinner at almost 9pm and the restaurant was understandbly pretty empty (close at 10pm) we were greeted with a friendly smile and promptly seated by the window. The deco and the make up of the stuff suggest a family run establishment. We ordered the love platter (suggested for 2 people) that includes sushi, sashimi, assorted tempura (veggies and shrimp), bulgogi, 2 miso soup and some fruits as desert. We also ordered the chicken karaage and some salad on top, which has proven to be too much food even though we were pretty hungry to begin with. We still managed to finish them all. Portion size and food quality are of decent quality. Everything were pretty well made. Given the price, portion and quality, I would say this is a pretty good deal. I've included some pictures so take a look for yourself. We would come back again. read more

Excellent, fresh and good size portions. My favorite go-to sushi bar after a lot of disappointment with all-you-can-eat restaurants, where puny slivers of fish accompany stiff rice and the staff seem overworked and rude. Prices at Sapporo are reasonable. I usually have the chirashi. It's an excellent value with very large portions of fresh fish. Service is always excellent. Customers complaining about very slow service probably didn't understand that tables are equipped with buzzers. Waiters respond instantly when pressed. Otherwise they generally leave you alone to enjoy your meal in peace. Also, probably the best and varied selection of sake in Ottawa. read more

We come here often for the lunch menu, which a series of well-priced bento boxes. Great quality tempura made in obviously fresh and clean oils. The fish is fresh and quality. Service is prompt (don't press your table button because it's embarrassingly loud). Decent selection of beer. They have massive fluctuations in how many people are in from lunch, from just one table to very full. I hope these guys stay in business because the neighbourhood is badly in need of variety. Just don't look up at the ceiling... read more

A restaurant named 'Sapporo Sushi' is like saying 'Bavarian Beer' - while the eponym makes sense, it certainly doesn't infer or guarantee quality in the product. However, Sapporo Sushi lives up to its name. The Miso was perfectly balanced, hot, and delicious. The lunch specials were masterfully prepped, delicious, filling and justly priced. Overall, a good sushi lunch experience. read more

Did someone say best sushi in Ottawa? Indeed, you need not look further. If you're looking for presentation, this place is average. Their supremacy lies in the quality of their sushi, the seafood cuts themselves, and the subtle yet enticing ingredients that go into their rolls. We always order the yellowtail, spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. These are "must haves" and I assure you that in the ~20 different sushi restaurants I have frequented in my life, this tops them all in terms of novelty and taste. I would also like to add that Their sashimi portions are generous and always fresh. Bon appétit! read more

We were hopeful after reading the (mostly) good reviews. We arrived at our 6:30 reservation time, ordered a few rolls, some sushi and the seafood udon (advertised on the poster at our table). Miso arrived and was fine. Salad arrived and was nothing but iceberg lettuce. Sushi arrived and was tasty although the portions were very small. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Tables around us were served. Tables around us were cleared. Our empty dishes were not cleared. And we waited. Finally at about 7:50 we flagged down a waitress and asked about the udon. She said something about something being broken but it would be coming soon. And we waited. At 8:00 we gave up and got up to pay our bill and leave. While paying, our udon came out of the kitchen. They asked if we wanted it to go. I said I refuse to pay for it. And they took it away. This could have had a much better ending. They could have told us they were having problems in the kitchen and asked if we'd like to order something else. They could have offered the udon for free as an apology. But they did none of these and so we went to another restaurant for dinner and will never go back to Sapporo. For really good sushi go to Suisha Gardens. For AYCE, go to Sushi Kan. In either place, you will not be sitting for over an hour without food! read more

Went there for lunch on a Saturday. The place was close to empty with just a few other tables being seated. The interior is a bit bland, but not really a deal breaker. We got a mixed platter with rolls and sashimi. They give us tempura on the side. The food also came with miso soup and a pretty basic lettuce salad. Quantity of the food was satisfactory. The pieces were fairly big and everything tasted fresh. Price was also reasonable except for the appetizer which was 3 small pieces for $9!!! Not worth it at all! The rolls that came with our order looked sloppy and very quickly made. Not that anything tasted bad, but presentation is usually a big selling point for sushi restaurants. Finally, there's much to be desired with the quality of their service. There were two people working and none of them seemed like they wanted to be there or cared much for what they were doing. While we got everything on our order fast, we got water refill just once and that's about all the attention we got until we asked for the bill. For that reason alone I would just suggest takeout. read more

This is probably the best affordable a-la-carte sushi in town. Every dish is made with attention to texture and flavor. It is obvious that the sushi materials are fresh and not stuffed mostly with rice. What I like is they they have more rare sushi offerings like Hamachi (yellowtail), amaebi (raw shrimp), soft shell crab and uni (sea urchin). There is added bonus of free soup, salad and fruit! Money is much better spent here than AYCE places in Ottawa. Been here many times and the quality has maintained the same. read more
