I ordered banc sushi through UberEats. We got the 68 piece platter, for 52$. We also had an UberEats coupon so it was really good value. However, the sushi was mediocre. I can't seem to find a good sushi place downtown! The rice was under seasoned (not enough rice vinegar), and a bit thick. It was also not well rolled. In some parts, you could see two layers of rice wrapped around the roll which made it like a mouthful of rice. The sashimi was definitely on thin side, as was the fish on the nigiri. Overall the sushi was ok, but definitely not the best. Something was missing from each roll. It didn't really hit the spot, but I have to say the price is good. read more

Whenever I revisit a restaurant, I always prefer to update my reviews in hopes that it helps foodies in Ottawa when they are in search of their next place to eat/visit. I was REALLY fond of Banc Sushi, but I did not enjoy the sushi or any of the dishes that we ordered tonight. The service started out great, we were seated quickly, and our first order came to our table within minutes. We ordered several rolls, spring rolls and of course, tempura shrimp. I could barely eat the tempura and handed the rest over to the hubz. Our second order got lost somehow. We waited a good 20 minutes while the waitress paced back and forth in our section, waiting for us to put another slip on the table, *because the waitresses/waiters here do not seem to enjoy talking to the customers*. We finally got the hint and realized our food was not coming out, and she was just going to pace back and forth until we place another order. So we created a new slip with chicken teriyaki, sweet and spicy chicken, and a couple of; yummi yummi rolls, salmon rolls, philli rolls, ect. We were not fans of the yummi yummi rolls. The philli rolls were OK, but after eating about three I wanted to move on from them, unfortunately I had to eat six of them because the hubz did not like them. The chicken teriyaki was horrible; and burnt. Lucky for us we kept swatting away fruit flies. YUM!! Service and food is one thing, but once I see bugs of any kind, that restaurant is off my list! After reading some of the recent reviews my friends and I were really sceptical coming to dine in. The soup was cold and they reheated it in the microwave... but who come here for soup anyhow? The sushi was really great and mussels were awesome. The portion sizes were great too. The customer service was a hit or miss but they did all right. I went here for lunch with one of my friends recently. (Weekday lunch is $12.99). This place came highly recommended. My brother and sister-in-law both love Banc Sushi and they think it's the best all-you-can-eat sushi in Ottawa. I did not agree. My brother and sister-in-law like what I call "real sushi;" they like sashimi and nigiri with all types of fish. Now at the risk of sounding untraveled and uncultured, I'm more of a "California Roll and Dynamite Roll" kind of girl. I see nothing sacrilegious about smoked salmon and cream cheese maki (and I in fact like it). I'm just giving you an idea of where I'm coming from, so you can keep that in mind when reading my review. We ordered 3 different maki rolls (Toronto Roll, Dynamic Roll and Calamari Roll). The nori used for the rolls was really fishy smelling. It did not have that roasted seaweed flavour that I feel good nori should have. The rolls fell apart really easily. And the rolls just didn't taste like anything special. They tasted like rolls you get at Loblaws (which I don't think is all that yummy). Although kudos to them for creativity. I've never seen tempura calamari in a roll before. And any place that pays homage to my hometown (Toronto) gets brownie points with me! We also had the General Tso's Chicken and the Lemon Chicken. FYI: these two dishes are identical except for the sauce. The Lemon sauce was good, the General Tso's sauce had way too much hoisin in it. I did not enjoy the General Tso Chicken at all. The batter to chicken ratio was ok, better than most places, but still more "battery" than "meaty". We got the Asian Spicy Beef. I don't know what cut of meat they use, but the beef was full of fat and sinew. We had the Shrimp Dumplings (aka Har Gow). These were delicious. The filling was full of shrimp and the dumpling was soft yet chewy. These were probably the highlight of our meal. We had the Shrimp Stuffed Mushrooms as well, which is shrimp paste stuffed inside a mushroom cap, battered then deep fried. It tastes like it sounds. Ok, but nothing great. We also had a Salmon Pizza. The sauce was really interesting (creamy and lemony). The fried rice cake was good, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It wasn't too greasy. The salmon tasted fresh. The portions are pretty large because we were stuffed after all the above. We managed to have some ice cream (I had the mango and my friend had the green tea). Both ice creams were fresh. They were creamy and not gritty like at some places. We also shared some banana tempura - delicious, not too greasy. The servers are really nice. They clear away plates in a timely fashion and they refill your water promptly when you ask. They are all pretty young, likely students. The place looks older and a bit dated, but maybe that's what gives it its charm. The washroom was really cold. However, it was laid out nicely so that you don't have to contaminate your freshly washed hands when you leave. Soda pop is free with the buffet (I didn't have any though). They also have a Frequent Diner card were you get your 11th lunch buffet free. There's free parking in the lot behind the restaurant. read more

Alright AYCE sushi lovers world wide, I think I found the secret to this place. It's not absolutely PACKED that the servers can't keep up with the people ordering. I came here with a friend of mine for their birthday. It's an AYCE sushi place though you can probably order ala carte. It took awhile to get out here from Westboro but it let me see an area of town I'm rarely in. When we pulled up outside it looked like a dingy dive bar but when you walk inside it's actually pretty nice. Alright here's the run down on the food Sushi - Ok at best. Rice is overcooked and not well rested like all the Chinese run sushi joints in Ottawa. The eel I got with it did have a slight funky taste. Sashimi - Ok selection, nothing amazing. I was very happy it was not frozen or skunky tasting as I've experienced at a lot of places in Ottawa. Teriyaki - Surprisingly not overcooked and I might have to say they were cooked very well. Noodles - Very interesting and spicy. Not a bad dish. Tempura - Ok tempura, very happy it was not overbattered and extremely oily. Soups - This was probably my favourite part of the meal as they weren't super salty like some places. Maki - I only ordered one and that was the deep fried soft shell crab. It's not the type I'm used to but if you like this roll I would recommend not ordering it from here. Between the crappy rice and the large crab they use it's not the greatest. Service was ok. They never came by to fill our drinks until we really chased them down. The server never checked up on our drinks but unlike all the other AYCE sushi places in town our orders came in full! 3 stars for that! read more

Disappointing return to an old favourite Having been to Banc Sushi half a dozen times, we were really looking forward to a return when covid restrictions were lifted, but were very disappointed with our recent visit. Prices have gone up, which is okay given how restaurants have suffered during the pandemic, and some items have been removed from the menu. However, we had several issues with the food: hot & sour soup had been microwaved, but no one bothered to stir it: hence hot spots and cold spots - but good, nonetheless. I sent the spring rolls back; they were cold. Calamari was also returned; it too was cold. General Tso's chicken was returned; there was no spicing to it. Edamame beans had to be ordered twice, and the curried chicken never did arrive. They have discounted prices for seniors, but they had to be reminded. (Maybe that was a compliment - lol.) I ordinarily tip 20% but reduced it to 10%; however, had I read other reviews first I might have left nothing: apparently tips go to the owners; staff get nothing. My husband and I order delivery from here regularly, it's our go-to place for sushi. It's always fresh and super tasty, and the portions are generous. Our favourite is the Banc Sushi combo box, the selection is fantastic and the price is amazing. The dim sum items are also wonderful. Really recommend this place! read more

My favorite sushi joint in Ottawa! (And I've tried ALL of them. haha) The sushi will just MELT into your mouth, literally. Absolutely delicious. And the tempura is PERFECT. Not too greasy, not too dry. Service is average, getting refills can be somewhat of a pain, you actually need to ask the waiters, or else they don't seem to take the initiative. However, the quality of the food really compensates for the average service. I'm a fan! read more

I rarely ever post negative reviews on here, but this place is just an entire mess. Not only does the sushi taste extremely bland, but the service is unbelievably slow! We ordered one maki set (18 pcs), and it took about 40 minutes even though the restaurant was empty, and we could clearly see the cooks hanging around laughing! As if it's not enough, the waitresses are just plain rude and make absolutely no effort in trying to retain the customers. One of them wouldn't even look at us while talking to us. They made a mistake on our order, as they forgot to add spicy sauce on top. It took an additional 10 minutes, just to put sriracha sauce on the top! I was ridiculously impressed by Banc Sushi once I got into the restaurant. It's very clean, nicely decorated on the inside. The outside looks strange, it doesn't look as nice as it could be, but don't let that fool you. It seems to be fairly well run. The prices for All You Can Eat Sushi are similar to places such as 1000 Sushi Islands, with Saturday lunch being about $15/person. We walked in with 8 people, without a reservation on a Saturday, at noon, and were easily seated. We ordered tons of food, which came over very quickly and tried all sorts of interesting sushi. They have the normal maki and sashimi and tempura, but they also have interesting creations involving pringles. Everything was delicious. We mistakingly ordered two of the wrong soup and they were willing to just take it away and not charge us for it. We declined and ended up eating it as well, but the thought was there. They wanted to make sure that we were happy. Unlike other All You Can Eat Sushi, this place tells you what they will charge you if you don't eat everything. 1000 Sushi Islands states that they will charge you, but they don't tell you how much. Overall, a very good experience and my friends and I think that this will become our new AYCE Sushi restaurant - even though it is very out of the way for us. read more

I stopped in here yesterday for a quick bit, however I didn't realize it was an all you can eat sushi place. I have to say the sushi wasn't bad, it tasted pretty fresh, especially the white tuna, however I was really disappointed with the service. The servers were careless, they were no where's to be seen and some of our items never showed up. The waitress spilled a cup of tea and didn't bother wiping it up. As for the food, for a $20 lunch I would have hoped to have gotten all my food, but I didn't. It was not worth the price. Also a tip, do not order the chicken fried rice- it's scrambled eggs with a little bit of rice. If you are bent on going here, I would say to try the white tuna and spicy tuna sushi (not the hand rolls which are all rice and nori). I don't think I will come back here nor would I recommend it. Our family loves Sushi. My two young boys can disappear an incredible amount of the stuff so sometimes AYCE is the way to go. As usual I use Yelp! as a reference when exploring for some place new. I figured Banc Sushi at 3 1/2 Stars could go either way. Initial hopes were good. But first came the tacky menu's. Not tacky stylistically. Tacky to the touch. The serving staff was detached but nominally effective at taking our orders and returning with same. A kind of bare minimum requirement. The marque of any AYCE establishment is a count on the variety of options available. While the menu had loads of items to choose from but mostly the variety was quite homogeneous. We stayed on the Sushi track and didn't wander off into the Dim Sum-esque non sushi track. Some of the dishes showed up less than chilled ( as I feel raw fish should be served) but tepid. The final order of the deep fried Oysters arrived and they were visually disturbing. Over done to the point of being almost black and covered in a sickly sauce that was kind of like Hoisin and corn syrup. I made the best of it and removed the coating but revealing the inside didn't help at all. At this point we were done. Why the 2 Stars? No one died! read more

Definitely one of the best AYCE sushi places. Very fast service, always fresh (have been 5-6 times), and the portions are not huge so you can try all kinds of stuff and not overdo it. Desserts are great as well! The outside of the restaurant does make it look like a hole in the wall, but the inside is nice. Service is limited (i.e. they won't chat you up), but I like it that way. The only negative, they've brought me the wrong plate a few times...not a big deal (they'll replace it right away). Came here for AYCE lunch ($13.99) and it was pretty satisfying. I wasn't a fan of the rice used for the sushi and the fish wasn't the freshest, but for $14, I wasn't expecting a whole lot. The food was tasty and the most memorable was the baked salmon roll. Dim sum is also included in the AYCE so I tried the har gow and siu mai, it wasn't too bad. A lot of menu items such as sashimi were reserved for the dinner menu, but I think the lunch menu was pretty large itself. read more

Firstly ignore all the bad reviews. They've probably never had good sushi ever and are used to Premade garbage. Secondly I ordered this 30 minutes before closing (on skip on a Sunday night) I expected bottom of the barrel, stale left over sushi/tempura. Let me tell you not only did it cost less than 40$ for a LOT of food it was incredible. I used to live in Los Angeles and I've been to SOOO many restaurants, including Nobu in Malibu, for the low cost of 500$ I thought I was eating like a queen, I watched the fisherman catch the fish off the pier that the restaurant was on and then the chefs prepare it in front of me, I thought that was the most incredible experience and taste but then I ordered from Banc. I never though that I'd ever taste sushi as good as Nobu again but here I am salivating over the incredibly fresh, fish/rice. It brought back memories that I thought were lost forever. This place had been very consistently good for the past few years I've been going. I'd say I've been to this restaurant at least 100 times and the frequency that it is substandard is quite low, both for dinner and for lunch. Between myself and my friends group we've probably touched on the whole menu and I've rarely heard any problems with the food besides the "once in a while" dip in quality one sees from any AYCE restaurant. Most new sushi joints will start very high quality with great attention to detail and "generous" portions, but suffer after about a year a massive drop. Banc Sushi has been around for a number of years and has done quite well maintaining this high quality. It has dipped a bit since when I first came a few years ago, but nowhere as far as almost every other long standing all you can eat sushi restaurant in Ottawa. The price is reasonable as well and you save a little by paying cash. Staff has always been friendly here. The dinner (and lunch) menus are quite big with a lot of selection. There is no tuna here, which is fine by me since it's rarely worthwhile at sushi places but might be someone else's preference. Fountain drinks are included in the price. read more

Banc Sushi is probably the best all-you-can buffet in Ottawa. The staff are friendly and welcoming. I've been to many ottawa all-you-can buffet sushi and nothing tops off Banc Sushi. Great sushi roll selection, appetizers, and drinks. They even have a vanilla coke float! Furthermore, they have plenty of parking space. I enjoy my time at Banc Sushi. It's my go to place when i'm craving for sushi. Yes there are times when it's busy and lose items off your menu. My best suggestion when ordering off the ipad is to ordered 4-5 items at a time. Instead of ordering all at once or 2-3 bulk. The only down size in my opinion is that Banc Sushi DOES NOT HAVE GREEN TEA ICE CREAM :( read more

No complaints about this place ! The servers are friendly, and all orders are always received quickly and taste great! I love anything that is made with the salmon at this place. It tastes very fresh. I also think this place uses just the right amount of spiciness in their dishes, as some places you may not even taste the spice in a spicy salmon dish, or it may be TOO spicy. I went for the dinner buffet with a friend last week and the experience left me shaking my head. The food ordered took up to 1 1/2 hour to get to the table if at all. Many of our orders would go to the table beside us. I explained the situation of 2 servers. One never acknowledged the problem and the other ( a young girl with a language barrier) just shook her head. The manager did offer to give us a $10.00 discount because my friend openly asked for it because of her sloppy service. This is the worst sushi i have ever eaten. The food is horrible. Don't go here. Calamari was cold and when we sent it back the waitress said " oh you wanted it hot?" The rice was so sticky, the salmon tasted bland, the soup was so spicy and the meat had an awful smell. I wanted to see for myself why there were so many positive reviews and negative reviews. This is THE WORST sushi restaurant in Ottawa. For starters, it took 45 minutes before I had to ASK the waiter for a glass of water after arriving and being seated. We ordered food, some of it came, some of it didn't. About an hour into our meal and only seeing the waitress once, I flagged her down and asked for a refill of my Diet Coke- her reply was "yeah, yeah, yeah, just wait!" I could not believe this! Lastly, our empty dirty plates sat on our table for 40 mites before I had to ask these useless examples of wait staff to come clear them away. I wish I would have not paid for my dinner. I have never seen restaurant so blatantly not care about customers. And out of all the seats in the restaurant- maybe 40-50 tables only 15-20 we occupied, the restaurant was empty. Probably one of the worst sushi places I have ever tried. Stay away from pretty much every item. Short ribs were pure fat and unrecognizable as meat. Rolls were bland and rice was cold and hard. I've been to this restaurant three times and I can say that the food is pretty decent. Some dishes are better than others but you get a lot for your money. The only thing I don't like is that communication with the wait staff is difficult. They barely speak English as they are newcomers to Canada, so they don't always understand what you ask them. This is our favourite all you can eat sushi in Ottawa. It is always consistently good, fresh, and delicious. They have had lots of renovations over the years and the place looks great. The staff is always great and we've never had problems with lost/missing orders. Like I said, it is always consistent and reliable, which can't be said for every AYCE place in Ottawa. They have also redone their menu in the past year and made it even clearer. Our favourite item is hidden in the appetizers/starters section (or specialties?), the baked salmon roll. It is absolutely amazing and you should get it. We also love the yummy roll (who doesn't like delicious sushi deep fried in tempura batter). Hands down our favourite place for AYCE - The sashimi is always fresh and the slices are generous (unlike Sushi Village on Rideau). 1000 sushi islands is never as fresh tasting as Banc. Hokkaido is similar to Banc, but they seem to have some issues with City of Ottawa food inspections so I'm always a bit suspicious. Hao sushi on Merivale was unmemorable - we can only remember we didn't want to come back. Sawa sushi in Orleans used to be a fantastic contender to Banc sushi, if only for their creative huge rolls, but they are closed now. read more
