Food: for two people, the co-owner recommended 2 small plates, 1 medium, and 2 large plates. So... we got a bunch: 1. Roka Salatasi salad - new menu item as of 10/31/24) and my favorite of the items we ordered actually. Turkish arugula, beets, pickled onion, local mild cheese, apple slices, dried fruit, and had some cumin in the dressing but not overpowering at all. 2. Pide - yummy, thin, and soft dough boat with cheese and other toppings. 3. Kuzu - lamb leg medallion was good, not too gamey and I liked the sebayon and lamb jus accompanying it. 4. Ahtapot - I wanted to love this because I love octopus and always order it when I see it, but it was overcooked, rubbery, and way too salty. That being said, the eggplant was delicious. 5. The Kebap - I saw a lot of reviews of people loving this, but I thought it was also overly salted. After the octopus and the kebap, it left my palate way too salty and thirsty. 6. Turkish coffee and rice pudding with hazelnuts and pistachios. Rice pudding was light, not too sweet and didn't have too much rice. I also really enjoyed all the nuts on top. Overall, great concept and tons of flavor profiles, but disappointed with the overcooked octopus and heavy hand on the salt for the octopus and Kebap. Drinks: Susurluk tomato-infused vodka and Turkish pepper was light and very flavorful. I usually go for sweet cocktails so this was different for me, and I enjoyed it. The '20 Bordeaux Roug Cab Sav was light and easy to drink. Service: everyone was super friendly, smiled, and asked how we were doing when arriving to our table. This place is on my "must visit" list of Seattle. Even if you've had Turkish food you've probably never had Turkish food like this! The attractive exterior draws you in and the beautiful design continues in the interior. The staff is attentive and thoughtful without being overly present. They all work together in unison almost like one server and were exceptional all evening. My group ordered most of the menu and had some beautiful wine pairings, most notably a light red wine from Turkey that really complemented the various dishes. The salads and starters were all vibrant, bright, and colorful. Flavor was not lacking even though acid was a heavy handed in most all. The sourdough bread was a good foil. The rich eggy mushroom bread coated the acid and helped cleanse it away and was moorish and guilty. The lamb was flavorful and well cooked though sparse on the plate. The medium rare T Bone was the splurge and while tasty, like most well cooked dry-aged steaks, the flavor and experience did not match the exorbitant price tag. The biggest takeaway was the intensity of flavor in all of the dishes as well as the exploration of new flavors and dishes. The dessert was interesting and light. Today, we went to Hamdi again with the whole family for my my little one's birthday. The team made our special day even more special. And for that we thank each and everyone in Hamdi. For this visit, we have tried the Turk-Bone, Kereviz Çorbası (Soup) and some kebab. They were all truly excellent. As a person loves to try new food and from Turkey, I can say Hamdi has the golden ratio of traditional and modern Turkish cuisine flexible enough to capture American taste too. Having worked at Cafe Boulud, Eleven Madison Park, & SingleThread, Hamdi's owner definitely has a shiny resume. I was really excited about coming here for dinner. Hamdi started out as a pop-up dinner & only officially became a restaurant a year ago. Reservations weren't too hard to book but there is a $20/person deposit & penalty for cancellations within 48 hours. I had the earliest reservation time at 5pm. Upon entering, I was immediately taken away by the interior of the restaurant: it's dimly lit, intimate, earthy, minimalist, raw. The dim lighting at the tables shifts all the focus to the kitchen in the center of the restaurant, which takes up a long, rectangular section where everything is done in the open. The bar seating was semi circular, which I found really cool. Whoever did the interior design here really did an amazing job. The two owners were both working: Berk was in the kitchen & Katrina had more of a front-of-house type of role. For one person, the waitress recommended Çig Köfte as an appetizer & The Kebap as the main entree, with an optional add-on of Etli Ekmek (iirc) if you are really hungry. I ended up ordering the first two items & a cocktail. This was my first time having Turkish food, so I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. The Çig Köfte was interesting & definitely something new to me. I wasn't the biggest fan of the ground meat (I've also never liked ground meat in Mediterranean / Middle Eastern food), but enjoyed the dish to the extent I could despite not liking ground meat. I also don't normally eat lamb, but I decided to take a risk here because The Kebap is the signature dish. The minced lamb belly came on a bed of pita bread, with a bowl of baldo rice on the side. What really struck me was how packed with flavor both of these dishes were. Everything was well seasoned & the spices really brought out the dimensions of the food. The baldo rice was cooked with peas, which created a contrasting flavor profile that helped rinse your palette, and everything went surprisingly well together. As someone who was a little skeptical about the dishes because they are not my typical dishes-of-choice, I was in awe. To finish up the meal, I did also end up getting the dessert. Unfortunately there wasn't a choice because they only have one dessert option: Haytali. It's pretty sizable & I think honestly enough for 2-3 people to share. It's very tangy & rather refreshing after a heavily seasoned & spiced meal. Service was great. The waiters and waitresses were all very friendly. Overall, it did not disappoint at all. The food here was incredible! Our group ate family style and ordered all the small plates and a couple entrees. The dips were an adventure of amazing flavor/texture combinations and the ribs were fall off the bone style with tons of flavor. Staff are also super friendly. Hamdi felt like I was eating in California, the food is definitely up leveling dining in Seattle! The only warning is that if you're used to bold wines, the wines on their list were pretty light. They provided blankets and the room was well-heated, so the blankets weren't even after all. The food was excellent! The dishes beautiful on the palette and to look at as well. The staff was friendly and the hostess was very helpful in organizing the event. The only thing I would suggest is maybe making the shed a bit more prettier. A much delayed post, but I came here for dinner back in April with my wife and we had a very lovely meal. We walked in around 7pm on a Saturday and waited maybe 20 minutes for table. We shared the following plates multiple items including: cig kofte made with bulgur, kaburga (lamb ribs) which were very fatty and smokey, kuru patlican (stuffed eggplant), lamb kebap which was also very fatty and flavorful, mangal ekmek (grilled bread), and tarama (a fish egg spread). I was surprised by how very fatty and heavy all the food was. Even when cut with pickles or acid, the meal still made me feel like my stomach was very heavy. Still, everything was very flavorful and nothing was bad. We appreciated the service and felt the 20% service charge (included in the bill) is fair. The restaurant is fairly loud and small tables are relatively close together, so we got to experience the awkwardness of date that was happening next to us. It is also very dark inside, so difficult to read a menu or even see the details of the plated food. The bathrooms are down a hallway and gendered. No changing tables. read more

The food and the night was great until we have been asked to leave because the table was reserved for another group. We were a group of 4 , with a reservation and there where no indication of time limits for it. When we finished our dinner the waitress come to us saying that if we were full we didn't need to order a dessert, that sounded weird to me but we decide to order a Turkish coffee and skip the dessert. As soon the coffee arrived the waitress said to hurry up because there was another group waiting for the table we revered... That is not the way you treat your customers... Bottomline: Great place, talented & dedicated staff, amazing flavors of the Turkish cuisine reinterpreted/deconstructed/reconstructed by Chef Berk, him and his partner Katrina both with an impressive background (see https://www.hamdiseattle.com/about). You should definitely go with people so that you can order as many dishes as you can, and share them, for the entire tasty experience. If you happen to get seated facing the kitchen, consider yourself lucky. Details: We first went to Hamdi on December 1, right after they opened to the general public following their November trial runs. Yes, they did have some growing pains to deal with back then, and that showed in the early reviews. The food was amazing right off the bat, and imaginative, especially if you know Turkish cuisine, think you know what you'll be getting, then see it recreated with additional ingredients, even tastier than you ever hoped for. But they had staff shortage, they were stressed, and that showed in the service, resulting in some disappointed reviews. After a month of that, they took the courageous approach of closing for a month to take stock, improve on everything that was already good, and fix everything that was not up to their own standards. Then they reopened early February. Our second time at Hamdi was few days ago, February 17, a very busy Friday night. And, they have done it! There is staff everywhere, from the front to the kitchen, from the floor to the back to the bar area. And, everybody is working fully in unison, without skipping a beat, like a well-functioning beehive. And, people were having fun, staff & customers alike. We were lucky enough to be seated facing the kitchen. It is great to watch all the activity, from grill to appetizer prep to dessert to baking areas. Get it if you can! We were seated on time, immediately explained the menu, checked up on, the food came in proper waves with proper timing, our waters topped up, our drinks kept refreshed, each dish explained in detail upon arrival, and all we had to do was to relax and enjoy it all. I'm attaching the menu of our night. We ordered everything except 5 things (ordered Fava, both Koftes, Pide, Turk-Bone, Kebap, Nohut, Ekmek, and all three desserts), because two people can only eat so much... LOL. Cleary the Turk-Bone is the one huge & expensive item ($200+), and in very limited supply each night; it is delicious. Everything else is a sharable dish, some small, some medium sized, easily shareable by two people. If you are three or more people, you might want to order two of some dishes, especially from towards the top of the menu. We loved everything, especially Fava, Cig Kofte, Pide, Turk-Bone and Kebap. We really couldn't decide which one was our favorite. As it is, these five dishes won over the remaining six we ordered by just a hair. Everything we ate was "oh, wow!" Keep in mind that Turkish dining is a non-rushed social experience. People chat, people eat, people drink, food comes in waves, people share, and it lasts a while. Come with that mindset. Hamdi is a pop up.we went to their location in lower queen anne at citizen. We got the kokorec( $28, lamb sweetbread sandwich) and the kebap($21) sandwiches. Also got a hummus to go(13$). Hummus was really small for the price and came with a side of pita. The kokorec was bigger and lots of meat, mixed with onions and peppers. Was good and tasty. Bread was pretty good. Tangy , well cooked, low on spice but very well flavored. A tad over priced for the quality and quantity. We chalked it down to supporting a small business! Kebap- Very well balanced between meat and salad. The salad brings a nice bit of acidity to the fatty meat. Lavash is nice and chewy. This was a smaller roll for the same price. Rarely does a restaurant come along where you feel as though you are part of something that is going to be the next big thing. Hamdi is that restaurant. As a Chef myself, I can be a little more critical. The food is meticulously prepared with all the elements taken into consideration; flavor profiles, textures, and executed with stunning presentation. They are constantly creating superb new dishes, taking into consideration current seasonal availability. If you get in early to snag something of the special's menu, you are in for a treat! We have discovered many of these specials end up on the menu quickly. And, their steaks are always cooked to perfection. We have been to the restaurant now 5 or 6 times and have found the service to have gone from good to great. We enjoy it when a member of the kitchen team serves us., as it is clear that they love what they do. The ambiance is always a great balance of service and personal space. I have never felt rushed, the meals are well spaced, and the venue is not loud. The wine selections have been spot on, and the cocktails are on point. I strongly suggest the Turkish wines. They are fun and pair well with most of the dishes. Their Lamb Kebabs are a must have. The eggplant pide is delicious, and the cig kofte makes my taste buds do a happy dance. I want to start with the positive. It is quite expensive, but this is not Garlic Crush or some generic Middle Eastern restaurant. This is fine dining. This was, hands-down, the most tasty assault on my palate ever. Every dish was exquisitely presented and spiced. I beg you to order the pide, the kabab and the chicken wings. We also got the vegetarian entree, which was essentially a loaded twice baked potato with toppings that were plentiful and diverse that has us scrapping the plate. The only reason for the four star instead of five is the bizarre efforts of our otherwise helpful waitress to push more expensive dishes and more food on us. (The "market price" steak, "there's only two left. Shall I tell Chef to hold one for you?" Or, "You really should consider two kabaps so everyone has enough.") Because I read reviews warning of this practice, I knew better. But it shows that this is a management dictate, not some errant waitress. Why? $60 non-refundable reservation per person. Wine selection is amazing! The glass pours are some of the most compelling options I've seen in Seattle. The dish portions were a bit smaller than expected for family style. It should be 3.5 stars honestly, but I'm more a critical person plus we had really high expectations of Hamdi. Me and my friend used to come to the pop up in summer and had a blast of their lamb kofta. It was hot and fresh from the grill, we sat as long as we want with the beer from the brewery. However at the sit down restaurant, we were so rushed with each and every dish that our small table had no room to maneuver. It'd be fine if they were all salad or mezze, however the grilled fish and lamb kabap should be timed right imo. By the time we finished everything else and started to dig into the lamb, the oil and fat soaking the bread underneath had becoming room temp and you know when lamb fat gets cold, it tastes 100miles away than hot. Also we weren't a fan of the bread soaked completely in the fat to begin with, we preferred the bread on the side with at least some dry surface, it'd be less messy on our hands and more tasty with the contrast between dry bread and the flavor. They took away the lamb dish when we barely finished it, leaving the rice the only dish on the table. What were we supposed to do with the rice when it'd be a lot more tasty dipping into the lamb sauce? I don't know We were also surprised that the fried dough balls were the same size of Pearl onions. We asked if they were supposed to be cold, the answer was yes. I don't think anyone expecting a donut or beignet type of thing should order this, it was just flat, and there was no way to pick up the ball with the fork given to us, spoon would work better. Kofte and stuffed eggplants tasted great, fish was delicious except there were two bites where the skin was way too salty. We had 6 dishes total and finished in a hurry of 1.5hours, really wish there was more time to pace and enjoy. read more

I was lucky to snag a reservation at Hamdi after seeing all the hype around it. My group ordered most of the menu - pide, lamb kofte, kebap, sourdough bread, cupra, the eggplant, tarama, and lokma - all of which were amazing and delicious. I've been to Turkey quite a few times for work and the food really reminded me of Istanbul, especially the eggplant. All of the dishes are quite small so Hamdi is not the most economical. The reason why I took off a star is that the service was not quite up to par. There were 2 mishaps during our dinner. First we received the wrong drink (which was comped thankfully) and second they forgot to put in our order for the pide so we ended up waiting 15-20 minutes for that at the end of our meal. Overall the food is really good, the inside is very trendy, and I would come back for a special occasion. read more

Sorry, it's a no for me. Hamdi ignored my partner and me for at least 10 minutes on my 30th bday. This sucked, as I was excited to hear about Hamdi's opening as I live in the neighborhood and hear stellar reviews. We were acknowledged BRIEFLY for a few seconds upon entering the restaurant by the hostess, who I understand may have been stressed/busy; however, my partner was asked if he had a reservation (we did not, our mistake) and was then told that they were busy. Still, she would see what she could do. She quickly walked away before we could ask anything else. The next ten minutes were spent observing the hostess, who was also a server (one of maybe 2?), in a BUSY restaurant with an open kitchen concept that honestly only made me feel stressed. I'm guessing they were going for a homey vibe, but the combination of a busy kitchen and loud music only made me uncomfortable. We then saw the hostess/server (?) step outside with plates of food in the windy, cold rain, struggling with the zipper for the outdoor seating tent. Even then, we stayed patient. She returned to the front, addressed and seated the couple in front of us without addressing us, then proceeded to take an order at a large table. At that point, we walked out. I'm sorry, but choosing to pay Seattle prices for rude treatment, cold food, and lack of consideration, especially on my birthday? No thanks. Our money is better spent at other local businesses without uppity hipster vibes. Bummer, Hamdi. I understand it is a busy season, but basic manners go a long way. It feels like Revel used to in the old house but much better. Lightening and decor are superb! We liked several dishes and splurged in the poterhouse. was good. I mean how can't it?! It was cooked perfectly and seasoned well and the sauces especially the hot one was wonderful. That felt price little outrageous at $190 given they probably pay about $60 or less for that meat. The best thing we had was the yogurt, tahini, pomegranate molasses, quinoa, and pine nut dish. I didn't care for the salmon roe being mixed in to that particular dish. The whole point of row is the experience of it popping in your mouth. The wait staff was hit or miss. The turkish man was wonderful. I didn't like having so many people interrupt us all the time. It was anxiety inducing. But I understand they are trying something different. I would recommend giving people ample space for the guests, some people were to close and a wee aggressive. Don't ask how we heard about you in the middle of dinner, for example. Good job, a few improvements would make this truly excellent. read more

We stopped by yesterday for a birthday celebration. We had a group of 6 adults and 3 kids but paid for 9 full set dinner meals. The presentation was good, but the portions were really small and insufficient for 9 adults (which we paid for) when we have 3 small kids that didn't each much. For a group of 9 full set meals, we were only being served 2 small eggplants and 2 small plate kebabs during the main course. We have to slice and dice for 5 people to share one eggplant and kebab!, Thankfully our kids didn't really eat much so there are portions left for the adults. Originally, we were served 3 sets of appetizers and suddenly changed to 2 in the mid-way, which wasn't expected. Overall, for a meal that costs 1000$ total, I am really disappointed. I was lucky enough to snag a reservation on opening day at 4:30. First customer! So much of the Seattle dining scene doesn't live up to the hype for me, but Hamdi is really that good. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and comfortably warm. The owners seem like wonderful people as well; Katrina greeted me outside and gave me a small tour of the restaurant and talked about their future plans for the place. Food - the sourdough was perfectly chewy and paired well with the tarama (salmon roe dip). The kereviz çorbasi, a mezze soup, was unexpectedly good as well. My main dish, kaburga (dino beef rib), was tender enough to cut through with a normal knife, with a wonderful char from the open flame grill. This restaurant is going to be really successful and I'm excited for them to be in Ballard. read more

A delicious night out experiencing wonderful flavors at Hamdi. We were excited to give this place a try after hearing so many rave reviews about them as a pop-up. The inside felt wonderfully cozy with an open view of the kitchen that was fun to see. The menu is small, but it was still hard to choose! We were recommended to get a couple smaller plates and a couple larger plates. It might have been helpful to have a little more indication how big or large each dish was. We started with an absolutely delicious soup that was buttery and rich without being overly heavy. We also got the smoked chicken small plate, the little sun choke chips on top were so tasty. For larger plates we had the kebab and eggplant. Both were tasty, but the kebab was out mindblowingly flavorful and wrapped in soft chewy lavash. It may seem like the safe choice, but it was our favorite dish of the night. Dishes erred on the small side but flavors were bold and great. unique flavor, delicious. service was attentive. pricey - we ordered the "market price" steak but the server girl did not tell us the price beforehand (is that usual in seattle?), shocked to see the over $170 on the bill. lesson learned. read more
