On a recommendation from a local knitting/crocheting group, I brought my daughter's favorite bunny stuffy here for repairs after it was starting to fall apart. At first, I was told by the woman staffing the from that the tailor could patch the main hole on the front and foot of the rabbit (this is kinda what I was envisioning and hoping for). However, on pick-up, the bunny instead was pieced together with thick yarn in all the spots with holes. I had specifically told the woman at the front that this had already been tried but it had fallen apart after a few months. Nevertheless, I paid somewhere in the range of $30-$35 for this - and then immediately ONE WEEK later the exact same hole in the bunny burst open again. I understand the bunny isn't going to last forever, but I was disappointed that they didn't deliver on what they said they would, and the fact that the stitching didn't even last for a week. read more

While the quality of service was indeed excellent, the biggest takeaway was that they have the absolute nicest, most genuine staff!! After the fires, my entire closet had to be washed. The staff here truly went above and beyond explaining the process, rewashing items as needed (not their fault - just stubborn smoke on certain fabrics), and ensuring I was provided with a good deal. I called and spoke to this lovely gentleman that told me hemming would be $24. I thanked him politely and he replied "looking for cheaper?" I replied with "I go to Halversons down the street that charges $14" He had the audacity to reply back with "you can go to downtown and pay $5" You're not going to win any business with that crappy attitude. I've been having my dry cleaning/alterations done at Magic Cleaners for 6 years and I can't say enough good things. When you enter, the shop is clean and bright and Ara always has a smile for his customers. The quality of his work is impecable. I've yet to find the stain that he can't get out. He's rushed things for me and really helped me out in a pinch. The tailoring/alterations he does are fantastic. Table cloths with cranberry stains come back looking like new. Everyone was telling me... get your regalia steamed and pressed before commencement. I was really excited about graduating and didn't want anything to happen to any of my things in the precious little plastic bag set. I looked up cleaners in my area on Yelp and found a few places with 3 and 4 stars, then Magic Cleaners with a 5 star rating and good reviews. I called up the guy and rushed to get my stuff in to him before closing. I opened the bag there (too afraid to lose anything by opening it up before) and reluctantly handed over my cap, gown, and sash, eyeing him and the place skeptically. He treated my things like I was handing over a child and reassured me that he would take excellent care of everything and I would be happy. I felt really good about the place that I saw, a large establishment, with a professional set up, and he seemed like he knew what he was doing. He was also very friendly and helpful. My mom picked up my stuff the next day and everything was perfect. I was even complimented at commencement for having the most pristine regalia than anyone else there... with no wrinkles. I was super nervous that day about everything, but having wrinkled clothes wasn't one of them. I really appreciated this place and would feel comfortable bringing him anything else that I needed to have cleaned or repaired. Make sure to ask for some sort of receipt when you drop off your clothing. After 3 years of using this service, they seemed to have lost my expensive James Perse shirt. I made sure to check everywhere that I might have misplaced it, but after searching I knew that I dropped it off with them. I called and waited for 2 weeks for an answer, no response. I showed up in person to drop off 2 garments and asked again if he (the owner) had heard anything of my shirt to no avail. I asked for a refund for the shirt since it could only be determined that they had lost it and he refused. When I asked for a receipt/note for my 2 new garments I dropped off, he said that he does not give out receipts. At best, this is just bad business practice, at worst, this is malicious. Extremely UPSET and disappointed at this place! DO NOT GO!! Please take a look at the pictures I took of the belt I had them shorten. I had concerns about the cut leather not glazed, was told oh don't worry he knows what he is doing. This is completely unacceptable! It looks like someone just cut the extra leather with a pair of scissors and the cut wasn't even straight. Then it was stitched back with horrible stitching and lose ends that was coming undone as I was holding the belt. The belt was also cracked in the process. It is a complete disaster!!! When I went to pick up the belt and pointed out all these upsetting issues, I was told "Why are you upset? It's just a belt." WTH! Maybe it's just a belt to you but it means something to your customer. That is just extremely disrespectful! This is extremely upsetting and I was told I had to PAY before I could take it back. At this point I don't think they're capable of this kind of job. They not only ruined my belt and offered no apology because according to the owner, "you want it shortened and it's shortened!" OMG!! Review for hemming prices only: I had hesitated to write this negative review but a year has passed and I feel that it's OK to write it now. About a year ago I brought a bridesmaid dress (relatively cheap, I paid ~$80 for it) in for a simple hemming where I just needed several inches to be hemmed off the bottom. I told the owner that I didn't need it to be perfect, nobody was going to look at it and a bare minimum job was fine. The price he quoted me was $200. For a dress hemming job. I expressed my shock at the price and he decided to "accommodate me" by then "lowering" the hemming price to $150. It had been a while since I got alterations done so I gulped and said OK, especially when he explained that with Covid the prices all around were just higher. Some months later, for another wedding, I decided to try out a tailor shop in Alhambra, where the hemming price for a similar bridesmaid dress was $50. This month I need another bridesmaid dress (another wedding) hemmed and so I'm trying out another dry cleaner in South Pas, and the hemming price will be around $35. It took some time but I realized in retrospect that I probably got scammed or something here. Just wanted to issue a warning to anyone who might be in the same situation. read more

Recently, I dropped off a gown and not only was it tailored exactly to what I hoped it would be, Ara was able to create a pocket square out of the remaining material for me upon request. I am on the shorter side, so when people ask where I find a place that alters to the perfect length I am quick to recommend Magic Cleaners & Laundry. I normally don't bother to write reviews for businesses (even businesses that I genuinely like), but I feel like I have to for Ara. First off, to preface, I work an extremely busy high pressure job in which I work long and unpredictable hours. It's sometimes hard for me to find time to do simple errands like dropping my clothes off or picking up my clothes at the dry cleaners. There have been times I would drop off my clothes at Ara's but leave them there for a very long time because I was either too swamped with work and genuinely forgot about my clothes, or I was too busy and/or exhausted to pick them up at a reasonable hour. After a while, I called Ara asking if he does delivery services in which he goes to customers' houses and picks up and delivers clothes. He said that he normally doesn't but he would do so for me on a weekly basis because he knows I've been a loyal customer and I have a demanding job and I don't live too far from his business. He even said he would do this at no extra charge. I can't recommend Ara enough. Even if I don't live in South Pasadena forever, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to all my friends. read more

Brought a suit in to get dry cleaned after a wedding. I was super disappointed in finding that this custom-made suit had really terrible seams on the pants. Ara not only said that he would take care of it and make it look better, but delivered and then some. The suit looked crispy and clean, and the seams were meticulously cared for. Way better than how I brought the pants in originally. It was my first time there and will definitely not be my last. Just dropped off another outfit to have a zipper replaced. I started going to this branch recently and I have to say that "Ara" - the owner - is doing a great job trying to attract customers and provide a great service. I had many pleasant experiences with his services. However, recently I brought them a pretty big order (lots of expensive jackets and dresses for dry cleaning), and I was not pleased with the results at all. My wife had one brand new $500 dress included in the order (that had a 1-cm foundation stain). The dress came back with lots of pilling on it and a - guess what - still the stain of the foundation cream! That should have easily come off with some soap and water! This made me wonder if they ever "cleaned" it. Unfortunately, we also had a leather jacket that came back with lost color and luster! I have only been to Magic Cleaners in South Pasadena on two occasions thus far; however, they already deserve a five star review. THIS PLACE SAVED MY PATAGONIA JACKET FROM CERTAIN DEATH! My dog recently tore a small rip in my prized Patagonia Down jacket. I was very bummed because its a jacket I wear almost daily in winter and its an expensive piece to replace. I visited a couple different tailors in the SP/Pasadena area and all of them said it could not be stitched/repaired properly and that I'd need to sew a patch over it if I wanted to close up the rip. For this service, they all quoted $50-60! I decided to get a final quote at Magic Cleaners & Laundry. When I walked through the door Ara was super friendly and accommodating. I shared that previous tailors had suggested sewing a patch. He immediately winced, empathizing with me that a patch would ruin the style of this iconic jacket. He sat with it for a bit determined to find a solution. I was ready to give up and settle for the patch but he assured me would sit with it and find a solution to repair it nicely. Fast forward a couple days, I come back to pick up my jacket, and I seriously cannot even identify where the rip was! Not exaggerating when I say he could have swapped my jacket with a brand new one -- extremely good work! I was also shocked at how reasonably priced he was, very competitively priced compared to the other Pasadena tailors I visited. I showed my family and now everyone is going down to get their nice winter jackets/coats repaired! From now on, I'll definitely be going here for all my tailor and cleaning needs! What a wonderfully run business! I brought in a lot of items (ties blankets coats) that really needed some detailed care. I was worried it would be extremely pricey, given the number of items - (25 ties!) They were so generous as to offer a great discount on my entire order - and they didn't stop there - because many of my husband's ties were vintage & in delicate shape, they offered to make sure the ties remained in tact after cleaning & hand stitching each one that needed it- at no extra charge! Now THAT is undeniably fantastic service. The cherry on top is they don't use any harmful toxic chemicals that most cleaners use - ones that are dangerous for the environment & people. First two experience - great. Later on, not so much. After having a great initial experience I recommending many friends and family to this place... some of which included clothes of my own (they were taking it in for me since I was so busy). Last time, the lining of my coat was completely ripped. It was VERY obvious (about 4-5 inches diameter in size). There was a note on it saying that they couldn't get a stain out on the collar. Something about how it couldn't come off - that I understood. However, I refuse to believe that you notice a stain but you don't notice a huge rip in the lining. Quite frankly I was irritated they didn't just admit their mistake and let me know. But fine I know how to sew; I figured quicker to fix it myself and move on. Then this time rolled along. Someone else took in for me my favorite coat (that has significant sentimental value) which has a mix of some pleather parts. Whenever it's dropped off, they frequently mention how they notice the pleather parts and they are going to wash it separately or be careful or something along the line... which always made me felt less worried. Turns out I should have been. I finally had the time to take a look at it and the pleather on the back part is damaged. Patches of it seem like it's "lifting off" and I know at this point if, with friction or folding, it'll probably start peeling. I honestly don't even know how to fix this and most likely I can't. Again, I'm upset they either choose not to mention it and hope I don't notice or they really don't do proper quality check. read more

Upon entering, the business owner was not wearing a mask and was on the phone. I waited outside for him to get off the phone and when he was done, he came to the door to let me in.
