This has been our family pharmacy for decades. It is our "go-to" for immunization, prescriptions, medical supplies and even paper towels! The staff has gone out of its way to help us in tough times. The owner's name is Joe and he is unfailingly kind a patient. Gives pain free shots. There is a tall brunette woman who is also a pharmacist and she too is excellent. My family and I have been going to Halpern for years, and I recently had the delight of moving away for college so I never have to use this pharmacy again. Like another review said, the staff are extremely unprofessional and make handling any issues you have into a "non-issue" unless you keep pushing it. In the past 2 years I've had up to 7 pills missing from my 30 day refills, and they miscount pills frequently. It's a train wreck to try to get more pills after they miscounted the month prior, the last time they missed 5 I was accused of "abusing" a non-controlled substance. Who is getting addicted to lamotrigine? I recently moved away to another city for college and requested they transfer my prescription. I can't put into words how insufferable this place was about it. My father and I called over 5 times together, and my new pharmacy did as well. Today, they left a voicemail saying they'e not going to send it and to make sure I "really needed it." Who would be THIS annoying about getting their pills unless they really needed it? They also said they already "made" my prescription and despite us saying I moved over 300 miles away, I should get somebody to pick it up regardless. This is extremely unprofessional and I don't know in what world the staff here think this is appropriate. The ONE saving grace about this place though is if you go between 2-4 pm on a weekday there's usually no line. In theory if they count your pills right consistently and you go in during that window, your pharmacy visits should be 5 minutes tops. That never happened for me or any of my family members though. read more

Stumbled upon this hidden gem while searching Yelp. I just feel like CVS and Duane Reade are like viciously trying to take all my money and up charge the shit out of customers. However, I was so delighted when I found Halpern! It's a large store, they have wheelchairs, medications in a large array, hospital socks (wtf I know I'm weird but they're so comfy and never found them for sale anywhere) and so much more! They even sell cleaning products, all at a reasonable price! God I ramble, but the staff was really warm and inviting when I entered. I felt like they cared that I chose to come to them to purchase medication I needed for post-surgery necessities. I recently moved to Gramercy from LES, so this pharmacy was only a block away from me and had no idea. Yay! read more

I went for my booster there - very short wait. The injector was very polite and kind. I asked him to tell me joke to distract me from the pinch and he did - very sweet gentleman. The pharmacy has very nice variety of things here. Heating pads, ace bandages, etc. read more

New staff..... Very non chalant about customer service...... The old staff was extremely professional. The new staff are DIZZY..... I been going to this Pharmacy for about 15 years no problems..... These woman they have working there have made multiple mistakes and when I confront them they smile and act as if it's not that serious..... I take colozopam for anxiety...... I get my prescriptions and notice it's half full. I rush back to tell them about the mistake and I'm told they were out of stock...... But I called days before...... And if the bottle is half full why isn't marked..... It's says it's full..... I signed it..... Another incident they said left a message voicemail saying my medication was not there. I didn't get a message. And the woman smiles. Why are you smiling? Is that funny? I guess she doesn't know what anxiety is or how to use a phone. Where is the old staff? And she says come tomorrow...... Wait..... What? Just go inside and get my medication...... If you don't like your job then go do something else. read more

They're so nice in here and they even remember your name after a while! It's much better than going to the cvs/duane reade pharmacies. You can get your prescriptions filled and also all sorts of other medical goodies like bandages and chair lifts. I've never needed anything and not found it here. Halpern is the best read more

I had fractured my left foot and was wearing a cast and using crutches. The doctor put a cheap shoe on the cast so it would not touch the street. Wanting something better, I went to Halpern which was about 3 blocks from me. I was exhausted from the 3 block journey on crutches, and this woman at Halpern made me feel welcome and had me sit down. She then brought multiple shoes to put on the cast. When I stood to leave, she noticed my crutches were not properly adjusted for my height and adjusted them for me. In summary, I felt like someone genuinely cared about me and had the healthcare knowledge to assist me. Unlike my doctor, I felt I finally got some attention for my situation. The are very best for service, friendliness, and inventory. Regrettably, they have opted out of medicare for such things as walkers etc. Apparently it something to do with the new competitive bidding program. I fully understand not wanting to get into that hassle. I am a retired physician, formerly on faculty of NYU School of Medicine which is just down the street. Halpern ALWAYS helped my poor patients with useful suggestions and discounts for their medications if they were not on medicaid or medicare. These people are the salt-of-the-earth. The 'big box' boys, i.e. CVS, Walgreens etc have a lot to learn from Mom-and Pops like Halperns. read more

Halpern Pharmacy is part of what makes the east 20s one of the most livable spots in NYC. They remember who you are. They * Advise about meds that you've got stashed in your cabinet. * Send over crutches when you've sprained your ankle and can't walk to their shop. * Call your doctor for refills, and insist that he call the insurance company so that your non-preferred meds don't break your budget. Bottom line: They ALWAYS put the customer first--and do so with charm and a smile. read more

I think they are very nice at this pharmacy but if you aren't using a prescription plan you will be paying way over market. They have been charging me 60-100% more than the pharmacy around the corner. This is not a small differential. I paid $160 for script that was $80 at the pharmacy around the corner. I paid $20 at Halpern instead of $8.00 for another script. They told me it's because of contracts but I am not so sure. It is very unfortunate since I really thought the staff was very kind. When I asked them about the pricing they became quite nasty. Sorry about this because I would my rather frequent a local pharmacy than a store like CVS. By the way the pharmacy with the better pricing was another local pharmacy and not a CVS. Bye bye Halpern. 5 other people are now leaving for the other pharmacy. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am. We have no plan now because we had to drop our insurance due to no work and now I wasted $500+ going to Halpern instead of another pharmacy in just 3 months. read more
