When I got to the car I realized they forgot my drink, no big deal I went back in to get it. I ordered the chicken souvlaki plate I added cucumbers, lettuce and bell peppers on top of the veggies the plate already comes with (tomatoes, onions and parsley). They forgot to give me tomatoes, onions and parsley. The chicken was seasoned well, but dry. My friend got the beef gyro plate. He did not enjoy it, but loved the fries. I went here with my family and nearvy is a fresh breeze outside. They have a dolmades, it was expensive but I wanted to try it. The price was too high like 20$ compared to the plate which had a salad. The one thing that was disappointing was extra cost for tzaziki and the quantity was not as much as I would have hoped for. It is a choose what you want and they make the food for you similar to the valencia location which I did not like. They should keep it the same as in the canyon country version, the rank 4 worldwide location because the service is faster. For a quick serve in Oxnard this is a great place for a quick meal. It's clean, employees are very friendly (it's Oxnard, not LA) and the food is plentiful and good. I highly recommend the salmon plate. It is a huge serving of grilled salmon with a giant feta stuffed mushroom. I liked it, I especially liked it was cooked to order. What I didn't like, and why 4 stars, is the fish had too much salt. The mushroom also was very salty but I understand feta is salty. If they could reduce the salty feta or find low sodium feta it would be outstanding. The chicken and the lamb gyro are very good and a generous serving. You can also ask for half and half. I enjoyed the house made watermelon "water" but suggest they make it as raw watermelon juice and not add any sugar. Been here several times always tasty!! So sorry for only 1 star this visit... I had the small (kids) chicken plate with onions and cucumber slices and got so sick I have to say that I was looking closely at the food in the containers that the gal was serving from and thought to myself the ones that were next to the ones she served from clearly looked as though they were recently replenished and looked a lot better than the ones she served me from. It's so important to toss the stuff that's been sitting as the temperature might not be cold enough to keep it fresh... if it wasn't the chicken it was the veggies that made me ill. Another BOMB restaurant within walking distance to my house can be trouble! My husband and I ordered the lamb gyro. So much flavor packed into the meat. This was a hearty, flavorful jam packed gyro. I AM SO HAPPY THIS PLACE OPENED IN OXNARD. In my opinion this is the best Mediterranean food in all of Ventura County. This county desperately needed a place like this and I am so thankful! I actually got to try this place when my apartment building catered food for us from gyromania and got try a little bit of everything on their menu and I loved everything. I knew we had to go back and actually eat there. So we came by on a Friday night and to my suprise they weren't busy. The service was amazing and the employees were extremely helpful. Food was out within 5 minutes and everything was so fresh! We go the beef plate and a falafel wrap to share and both places were a 10/10. Portions are huge and generous and that's a huge plus for us. Everything had so much flavor and you must try the hummus and tiziki sauce. So good! One of the main stars here is their baklava. Probably hands down some of the best I've ever had. "Mikey, why you leave Greece? Why you leave Santorini?" Nick's questions were genuine. It was the end of a six week visit to Greece. My wife and I were in Santorini (Thira) for the last week and I had made friends with Nick, a local merchant. Nick's questions were simple, and although the answer was equally simple, I couldn't get the words out of my mouth. Anything I might say would just sound stupid. Because my vacation is over? Stupid reason. Because I will lose my job if I'm not there next Monday? Another stupid reason. Compelling reasons, sure, but still, stupid. I stood there a moment, looking at my shoes. A flood of emotion was ready to spill over the dam. Finally, I just kinda shrugged and said, Thanks Nick, thanks for everything. I turned and walked out of the store. I was in love with Greece, but I had to leave. I had to leave Greece, but Greece has never left my heart. Every time I eat at a Greek restaurant, that scene replays in my mind. I can hear Nick's voice: Mikey, why you leave Greece? When I eat good Greek food, like they serve up here at Gyromania, it takes a little of the sting out of the memory. Good Greek food is so very, very comforting. Here at Gyromania they do Greek food justice. I've eaten here five or six times now and in my estimation, this is really good Greek food! For a protein choice, Gyromania gives you the option of Chicken or Lamb. I'm not interested in chicken. You can get chicken anywhere. The smart play here is the Lamb. Lamb on the menu is HUGE, because so many purported Greek restaurants don't serve it. That's weak. How you gonna be a Greek restaurant without lamb? And here at Gyromania, they do their gyro meat right. It's always got those crispy edges from roasting on the vertical rotisserie. Mmmmm...crispy edges! And I gotta say, they ain't stingy with the meat here. You get a plate here and it's enough for two meals. My wife and I usually split a plate and walk away completely satisfied. The menu here offers you a choice between a wrap and a plate. I hate wraps!!!! I hate wraps so much. Don't order me a got damn wrap, I won't eat it. I'm a plate guy. But whether you get a wrap (booo!) or a plate (yayyyy!) here at Gyromania, they let you customize it to your heart's content. I always get my plate with fries, but you have the option to get it with rice if'n you prefer rice. All orders are served in a tri-compartment to go-type box, one big section for the meat and starch, with two little sections for your choices for accompaniment. One of the little compartments is for tomatoes and cucumbers and olives, or whatever combination of other items you choose. Don't forget to tell them to add the olives, because these are (pitted) Kalamata olives, and you'll be kicking yourself if you forget to ask for the olives. (Remind me to tell you about running from the police in Kalamata sometime. Actually I need to check on the statute of limitations before I tell that story). Now, in the other compartment it's kinda tricky. If you want tzatziki, they'll fill the compartment with it. And, I gotta tell you, that tzatziki is so damn good you might be tempted to go that way. But hold up: the hummus is just as good as the tzatziki. If they fill that compartment with tzatziki, and then you say, yeah, give me hummus too, they're gonna charge you an extra buck for the hummus. However, the friendly employees here will offer you a way to avoid the extra charge: if you are cool with it, they will just put a little of that creamy delicious hummus in the same compartment as the tzatziki. Normally i don't like any of my food touching any other of my food like that, but if it will save me a buck, I'll put up with it. Just realized I didn't say anything about the fries. Let me tell you, the fries at Gyromania are excellent! Damn I love those fries! The rice night be good too, but I doubt if I will ever try it. I'm all about those Gyromania fries!!!! One more thing: the watermelon water. You gotta get the watermelon water. I don't know how Greek watermelon water is, I never saw it during my travels in Greece. But whatever. Don't blow it and leave outta here without giving it a try. It's frickin' great! Damn, I wish I had a gyro plate with some of those fries right now. Writing reviews makes me hungry as a muh. Choose rice, fries, or salad then add lamb, chicken, beef, pork, or falafel. You can add sides that go from normal to exotic (flaming cheese anyone?) They are very accommodating and helpful. I got a plate with a mix of lamb and chicken. They suggested sauces to go with my choices. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The tables and the whole area is clean. We ended up in Port Hueneme twice during my visit to see my mom. Gyromania is in an updated looking strip mall almost the opposite in demeanor of the one Mandarin House is in. There, I can get my Chinese, marijuana and liquor fixes and then head to Gyromania when I want to appear middle class and wholesome. :) The two lone men in the restaurant (no customers) appeared a mixture of bored and amused as one of them shouted "Opa!" to us. The other one got on his gloves only to be told we ordered our gyro wraps online. He found the bag and handed it to us without ceremony and we left him to his restlessness. We took mom's chicken gyro wrap with rice inside, my lamb gyro with fries on the side and four dolmas home. The bag had a handful of salty seasoned fries in another paper bag along with the wraps and plasticware containing four dolmas in a diced tomato sauce. Mom enjoyed hers a lot and ate an impressive amount of it. The side of fries were small enough that the sodium content wasn't an issue. The dolmas, on the other hand, were very salty if you tried to eat the beef and rice mixture inside the grape leaf. Mom didn't like them, so I finished most of them as a tomato, beef and rice "soup" once I discarded the leaves. The cinnamon is present to differentiate it from just meatballs in sauce, but I wouldn't recommend them. My gyro wasn't bad. The meat was well cooked and seasoned with a decent tzatziki, tomatoes, lettuce, parsley and onions. Again, it was a little on the salty side. I'm glad I didn't add feta for $1. So far this is the only gyros we've tried in the Ventura County area. If you've tried the awesome choices you have in L.A. and the SF Valley, this one won't cut it. We're going to keep checking our options before returning here. read more

Located where Ciao Italian Grill used to be, next door to Buttercup. I have been anticipating the opening of this spot since one of my favorite local Greek restaurant closed down. This place just opened on 3/26. Friendly staff. They all greet you with OPA when you first enter. It was PACKED, i dont think they anticipated the line almost being out the door - and they *still* managed to be friendly under the pressure (i hope it stays this way!). How you order food is the same concept as Panda Express... a start line, pick your food, pay. We ordered for pickup & got the grilled Salmon plate and grilled chicken plate. The food was not ready when we got to the said ready time and had to wait a few more minutes. The pita bread was marshmallowy-soft and the hummus was nice & smooth. The chicken and salmon, however, were overcooked, dry and hard to swallow. The salad didn't have dressing. Rice was decent. We will probably try this place again, but if the proteins are still cooked that way, we can't say we'd be regulars. 4 stars for service, 3 stars for food = 3.5 for now read more

I'm sorry but I need to revise my previous review. I am just done with this place. They have been open a year now and every time I go in there, which was a couple of times a month it's like they just opened and everyone is new. Their system for ordering is designed for failure. They must have a huge staff turnover because most seem like it's their first day. First off the menu board is in three parts and it reads right to left. If you order falafel they have to 'radio' the people in the back... I'm all for fresh preparation but come on at lunch and dinner times you could have a number prepared. I'm not talking holding for hours, but minutes. There are a total of three stations you have to got through to be finished with the order process: 1) the person you order from. 2) the person who partially assembles your order, besides the items being cooked in the back. So generally you have to repeat the order or at the very least they have to talk to the first person. Who by now may be taking another order. 3) the cashier who has to be told by someone what the order is, sometimes this third person has to ask the second person who sometimes asks the first.... And almost every time I've had to correct the information. The last time I was there our falafels were not fully cooked, and were raw and doughy inside, and likewise the spanakopita was not fully cooked. Conversely, the saganaki, was burned to a crisp on the bottom and stuck to the pan. To be fair the people are very nice, they are trying their best but I think it's a systemic problem. I'm just glad they stopped with the "Opa" every time someone enters or leaves. It's nice once in a while but enough all ready. read more

This is hands down the best gyro I've ever eaten in my life. The lamb meat is flavorful and well-seasoned, the pita bread super soft, and the tzatziki sauce flavorful and adding to the gyro. Fries at any place can be hit or miss, but the fries here have delicious seasoning, and they rounded out the meal to make me full and so, so happy. You will not be disappointed if you go.
