    4. Falafel pita Sandwich with nicely pickled cabbage on top.
    Cynthia W.

First time customer because we are staying at a hotel across the street. Lunch time crowd was there, and I was worried about the wait at first but food came out quickly! It's fresh, delicious and priced very reasonably. Falafel was fried freshly. Lots of regulars so that tells you everything you need to know about this place. I think I am going to come back for dinner and try a platter :)

When stopping by the local Family Donut shop, I noticed that Gyro Sababa has been an interesting option that is well liked by the community to check out, and I am glad that I was able to stop by to try out this restaurant! We went on a Saturday around dinner time (7pm) and were able to get a table. The restaurant itself is located on a small shopping block, and there are about 5-10 parking spots total at the front of the shops. I can see it being a bit difficult to come in from the Meridian ave street as you may get grouped up with the people wanting to turn left. Service is decently fast and responsive, and ordering is done at the cashier and they will bring the food out to you. By default, there isn't a water machine/dispenser, and we didn't automatically get water - we had to request it from the service workers and then they would bring it out to us in a small plastic cup. The ambiance is definitely fast casual as only a select few people stayed behind to eat their order and majority of people left. I got the number 16, which is the beef and lamb kabab platter ($20). At a first glance, it looks like there is a decent amount of food on the platter, but if you are really hungry, this still may not be enough as 60% of the plate is basically just hummus, yogurt, and some light salad. You may need to order an additional appetizer/dessert afterwards to get full. The kabab has a nice hearty and meaty texture, though it is a lot more dryer than other kababs that I have tried in the Seattle area. The hummus is good - very smooth and helps with the dryness of the kabab, and acts as a nice glue between the rice and the kabab. I personally wasn't wowed by the plate, but I think if you are looking to scratch that Mediterranean itch - this restaurant has got you covered. Price-wise, I think that this place does lean on the pricier side as I have seen these dishes at comparable restaurants for $2-3 less that what they offer here, and combo platters at other places being the price of a singular meat option here. There does seem to be a couple of other options on the menu that seemed pretty interesting, that I would definitely try if I was back at Gyro Sababa in the future.

Came here after an appointment (based on Yelp reviews) and what a pleasant surprise! The place is in an older stripe mall. I had the gyro salad, they heat up the gyro meat for me because making the salad in front of me. I love that you put the special garlic paste and the yogurt salad dressing in opposite corners of the salad so I can taste both of them separately. It was so fresh and yummy. Highly recommend!

Located in a little busy strip mall area, this is a fast casual place that works well for a quick weekday lunch when you're on a time crunch. We shared a lamb/beef gyro platter ($18) and ordered extra pita (I believe $1.25/50 each?) and tzatziki sauce ($1.25) which was enough food for the two of us due to the amount of rice that came with it. The platter came with gyro meat over rice, a small side salad and a dollop of hummus. The gyro meat was well seasoned and tasty and the star of the show for me. The extra tzatziki was portion was very small though (a little ketchup container's worth). We aren't big eaters so this was enough for the two of us to finish completely. Overall a fast and tasty meal.

Amazing casual gyro place near north gate! Got our food fast and loved every bite. Portion sizes were big enough for two people to share. Service was excellent as well. The parking lot can feel a bit sketchy, just be cautious. But we'll be back!

Came here Sunday evening for dinner. We were greeted warmly and ordered dine-in. We got the #1 lamb & beef plate and the lamb & beef gyro with a side of sababa fries. Each dish was flavorful and tasted great. For the price, it's reasonable and the portions are large! The staff were friendly and there's a few tables to sit at. Parking is also easy. Will definitely be back next time I'm craving Mediterranean food.

    3. Shawarma King Wrap
    Carol C.

I've been wanting to try this place after MB recommended it. I love gyros, but ordered the Shawarma King Wrap with lamb and beef. It was delicious! A little different from a gyro in that it is a wrap and has pickled veggies. The entire wrap is also grilled on both sides, so it's piping hot when you get it. Service was welcoming and prompt. I'm looking forward to their new store opening in Shoreline in late September.

My main man Mo at Gyro Sababa is cooking up them MEATS. Upon walking in, you will immediately see the star of the show... *** THE SHAWARMA SPIT *** Just absolutely sweating meat juices down its sides. It makes you want to put your head underneath to capture the shawarma essence as it falls, but that could be just me. Mo cheffed up this lovely shawarma platter for me. Rice, salad, meat, hummus, pita, what more could you ask for? Perfect size too. I wasn't disgustingly full when I left, but I felt incredibly happy with what I was served. Their garlic sauce and hummus provide the ideal consistency and flavor with which to smother on top of the pita and turn this meal into an interactive event. The place could use a little more seating though, because Gyro Sababa is exponentially increasing in popularity (especially after this review) Would love to come back and try more food. Thanks, Mo.

Sooo good. The beef/lamb was so delicious and tender. I ordered to go and the service was fast. Great portion sizes, which I appreciate. When I'm on the north end again I will definitely order from here again.

They're all good and a fun way to start the dinner. We each had kebabs---lamb, chicken and mushroom. All good, moist and tender all poured with a jig of ouzo on a hot skillet. The onions in the bottom get browned and crusty, so good to eat. One had a lamb burger which looked juicy and served with delicious mound of fries sprinkled with rosemary. Food here has always been awesome. Skipped dessert as we had homemade cookies to eat at our next stop.

However after we expressed that we didn't want to wait that long, we were told that if we wanted outdoor seating they could actually seat us in less than half an hour. We chose the outdoor seating option and took a quick stroll in the quiet neighborhood before coming back. Our server told us that Homer's plates are meant to be family style and shared so their general recommendation is 1 large plate or 2 small plates per person. For us, we ordered the Set of top 3 spreads, lamb ragu on tahini and we were served with 5 pieces of warm pita. We also ordered Grilled Pork with Stinging nettles, raw albacore tuna with taramasalata, and smoked and shaved kohlrabi. Our server warned us that the pork was going to be on the fatty side but we were still surprised by how fatty it was. The spreads for the pita were amazing as usual-- their seasonal flavors taste amazingly fresh. Our table wanted to order more pita and when someone came by to take the empty plate they asked if we wanted more which we did let them know but even by the time we finished all the plates, we never got the additional pita so we just took it off. The Kohlrabi was an amazingly refreshing palette cleanser before the pork-- super light and refreshing. After we finished our meal we grabbed some soft serve from the window and wow, for 7$ it's quite a lot of ice cream! The flavors that were offered when we were there was Dark Chocolate and Kettlekorn. I sampled the swirl and the fusion of the saltiness of the kettle korn, the slight bitter and sweetness of the dark chocolate was immaculate. Final thoughts: very cool experience, inside I could see the open kitchen and the stone wood fired oven and the ingredients tasted amazing. However it is a little inconvenient that it's walk in unless you're a party of 6 since the lines and wait can get incredibly long. It's also difficult to find parking in the area. Very neat experience!

We originally went because we had seen good reviews for Almanqal Mediterranean Grill. When we got there, the server mentioned it's basically the same place but with a different menu, so we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The food took quite a while to come out and when it finally arrived, it wasn't even hot. The bread honestly tasted like something bought from a grocery store. The rice was very bland, and although the salad was actually really good, the chicken was extremely dry, chewy, and lacked flavor. The presentation looked nice, but the taste just didn't match. The portions were also quite small, and the prices felt very high for what you get. The service was just okay overall. Maybe they are still new and working things out, but for the price and portion size it just didn't feel worth it. Overall, it felt like a waste of time and money considering the quality and quantity of the food.

The décor is function over form, i.e. basic. There were two staff members at the front, both of whom also prep food, cook, or grill. She told us to order at the cash register, but others had their order taken at their table later. While they have tables to sit-down, service was limited. They were also busy with takeout orders during the peak dinner time of 6pm. It wasn't until the end of dinner rush that they walked around the tables to refill water. Understandable given their small family business. The food is pretty good, more at a neighborhood scale; I wouldn't categorize them as 'worth the drive'. Prices are reasonable for the food, not high, not a bargain, either. The Food: Fried Cauliflower with tahini sauce, $10.50 - 4 Stars I have a strong affinity to Mediterranean fried cauliflower. Theirs is slightly soft but crispy on the outside nonetheless. Could be better, but we still liked it. Eggplant pickles, $9.99 - 3 Stars Menu: Grilled Eggplant, garlic, lemon juice, cilantro, The problem with ordering at the cash register is I tend to forget to ask question(s). My eyes lit up with 'grilled eggplant' (which I love) and neglected to ask if this is a hot or cold dish. It is a COLD dish and the keyword is 'pickles'. Chopped bits of pickle things covered the grilled eggplant slices. Cold eggplant is not that good, imo. Lamb Kebab Salad, $18.99 - 3 Stars Again, due to ordering at the register, I forgot to ask what kind of salad. While the lamb kebab pieces are very tender and good, the salad consists of uninspiring iceberg lettuce with tiny bits of tomato and tiny shreds of onions. Minus a star for the salad part. Lamb Kebab, $25 - 4 Stars This dish is served with one appetizer. We chose baba ghanoush. The fact this dish comes with a full-size appetizer makes this much more worthwhile than the salad. The lamb pieces are tender, and the rice is flavorful. The baba ghanoush is also good. Thumbs up for the trio. The overall rating should be 3.5 stars. I normally round down to 3 stars for the minimal service, but I am rounding up to 4 stars for the small family business.

We went on a Saturday around 2pm and it wasn't too busy at the takeout window. The restaurant is only takeout - there are benches right next to the takeout window, but there are only enough spots for 8 - 12 people (2-3 people per bench). The only other seating is at the nearby street seating offered by the neighboring bars, which I can see being restricted during peak hours. Parking can be very difficult if you plan on driving, there is only street side parking that is usually full, and nearby paid parking in lots. Service is fast, after we got our order, we only waited 5-8 minutes for our food. We got their recommended Soujouk (Beef) and Cheese Wrap for $16. The wrap is long, I would say about 13 - 14 inches long, and I can definitely seeing most people getting full after enjoying one of these. The flavors are nice and you can taste the spices from the sausage - I could taste cinnamon front and center with other earthy spices lingering in an aftertaste. The wrap is very decadent, the cheese is hearty and indulgent and that with the spiced sausage and textural difference with the cucumbers is pleasing. Do note with how indulgent this wrap is, you will accumulate a ton of oil in your wrapper as you enjoy it - a nap afterwards is in your future if you eat a whole wrap! I think that Yalla Seattle is a good stop to try these cuisines in a casual manner and the price is reasonable. Yalla is a walk up window, and there are just a couple of benches right outside where you can eat, and according to other reviews you can also go to Montana Bar next door with your food. The menu is posted in a couple places right next to the ordering window, and it's pretty easy to parse. Almost everything there is what I'd consider a "portable food", meaning something you don't need a plate, fork, and knife to eat, which makes sense given that it's not a sit down restaurant. They have veggie saj, meaty saj, mezze, a few sides, and a dessert. I really like their concise menu. We tried the baba ghanoush ($9.5), which comes with saj on the side, a batinjan and labneh saj wrap ($12), and a halloumi grilled cheese (halloumi grilled inside saj, $13). As you can tell, the saj underpins everything at Yalla, and their saj is excellent. Warm, soft, flaky, and tearable, it is perfect for both dipping and wrapping and grilling. The batinjan and labneh wrap is bursting (literally) with tender grilled eggplant, a rich sauce, and tangy, creamy labneh. It is truly one of the most delicious eggplant dishes I've ever had. The halloumi grilled cheese definitely hits the spot, and is more filling than you think by looking at it. Baba ghanoush is so smooth and flavorful, and I love the pomegranate seeds on top! The folks who work there are super nice, very friendly, and food comes out quickly. Prices are very reasonable, and I will definitely be back to try some of their meaty saj! This place is going into my regular rotation, for sure.
