Don't let the outside fool you. This is a bar and it serves bar food, but it's really good bar food. My girlfriend had the pulled pork sandwich and loved it. She also really liked their coleslaw (and she is a coleslaw aficionado). I had the fish basket. The fish was tasty and cooked properly. The fries were seasoned and excellent. We sat there for a while , she was leaning forward at the bar ( after she saw us sitting there ) never acknowledged us , we were the only Hispanic people there .. . What a different bar in a quite strange part of PHX almost like the city of Vernon California lol. Anyways this was a cool and very normal local bar for the area and I can honestly say everyone seemed very down to earth normal people everyone was just having a good time. By the time we got here we were starving since the last place we were at failed to bring our food. I ordered a salad it was your basic iceberg lettuce, croutons, and chunks of cucumber with ranch dressing and my boyfriend ordered a pulled pork sandwich with french fries he said it wasn't too bad. We stumbled upon this bar one Saturday while out running errands .. the kind of place that does not judge you for having jack Daniels and Diet Coke before noon .. the regulars don't care that you've stopped in.. the pop corn is free and the vibe is easy going The bartender told us the wings and fish & chips were good so we returned on a Friday for happy hour and fridays special Fish & chips.. Lindsey was our bartender.. she kept our drinks full and Bill was the chef .. he was funny and entertaining.. the food was hot and the fish was fried right .. the wings smelled amazing (Marty sitting next to us ordered them and when he was concerned about the heat .. This is the type of bar that has decent food...but...the female bartending staff owns the place not the owner. So for example, Lindsay gets pissed off of you because you didn't tip the bartender even though she's off the clock and drinking she will kick you out and take away your beverage. Not so very legal I would say but they don't care. If you want to order nachos Lindsay will make you and I say you as the customer ask the chef the cook your self. Her reasoning is because that's the least thing on the menu that the cook likes to make if you want extra cheese you have to ask him yourself because she doesn't want to get caught in the middle of the drama. Last time I checked if nachos were on the menu you could order it if you want an extra cheese they charge you they don't make you go through these childish hoops. But guess what you will have to do it anyway and if you get frustrated or disappointed at any time during the transaction you will be kicked out and I mean permanently 86'd. If that bartender Lindsay doesn't get her Adderall. It is going to be a bad day for you. Go to Dirty Little Drummer instead!!!! Go to any other place but....go there and you'll be kissing everybody's feet in a shitty dive bar. I must of hit Gypys's at the wrong time as what appeared to be a cozy roadside bar didn't do it for me. It wasn't the bar itself it was the service. And I'm not picky and expecting attention. I got my beer quickly but after that I might as well been a spot of grease on the bar. The two girls working the bar seemed more interested in chatting between themselves and with a few regulars at the bar. I was going to ask for a menu for future reference but never made enough contact to pursue the effort. I finished my beer and left. Again I don't expect that much but poor service or indifference bothers me. And in this case the service was indifferent. I'm in Scottsdale for a few weeks and trying out some bars while here. Happened to be in the area around 2pm and my husband and i thought we'd stop here to wait for some company coming into town, walking in it looks like ur regular dive far, 3 pool tables, smell of old and smoke but pretty typical and oldies rock on the radio (probably the only cool part). The bartender wasn't overly friendly at first but gave her the benefit of the doubt. She asked what we wanted so I informed her that it was our first time in so what did they have on special. She said we have our vodka's for 3.50 and wells for 3 and draft for 3... i said ok great, can i get a pineapple ciroc vodka and 7up for my husband... she says with a tude, its only the 3 olives brand on special. Im like oh I thought u said all vodka and pointed at all of them thats cool is there a pineapple flavor in that brand ? She said yea i said sweet we'll take that and i'll have a wells whiskey and 7up... i excuse myself to the rest room and let my husband pay and get the drinks. I come back and take a sip and its whiskey and soda water. I asked her "is this soda water?" Shes like yea u said soda. Im like no i think i said 7up ( literally all i ever drink so i KNOW i said that) she proceeds to argue and say no u said soda and u said sprite for ur husband. (Now im convinced she doesnt listen at all cuz i def said 7up for him also) so both our drinks are wrong at this point and she full of attitude. So i ask if i can get 7up and she changes it. However now my drink ONLY tastes like 7up and is yellow as can be, not brownish with whiskey. SO in my personal opinion and experience this place needs better more attentive and friendly bartenders. If you hate the smell of cigarette smoke Do Not come here. Typical dive bar and casual vibe which I enjoy, but the people that smoke do so right outside bar doors and smoke comes right into bar. If you can handle the smell of smoke and typical fried bar food, cheap happy hour beer you will be fine here. For me as a none smoker just wish smokers weren't so lazy and could walk around corner of building. read more

The outside was a little deceiving. Outside didn't look like much but the inside was pretty decent. Large area with lots of seating and shuffle board. Bathroom is small but that's OK. Visiting the Phoenix area with my husband and decided to try this place out. They had karaoke going for their Friday night. They had a HUGE shuffleboard, pool tables, darts, and lots of tvs. We both loved the place and are probably going to go back tomorrow. The service was great. A great little spot for a casual beer and some bullshitting with the quirky cast of regulars. Friendly and efficient staff/ownership and surprisingly good food. Drink and food specials every day, open late every night (but the kitchen closes early). Plus live music on weekend nights, trending toward the classic rock/metal crowd. Draft beer is served in frozen glasses and they definitely don't short you on the booze in the mixed drinks. Lots of biker signs outside and a few tough-looking characters but it's a friendly place that shouldn't scare off the non-biker crowd (like me). The food is high quality--kind of a standard bar menu, but well done with big plump wings and a great burger. It's what a "roadhouse" should be, right in the middle of town and close to freeways and the airport. I very much recommend Gypsy's--so glad I found it. read more
