Weird cafe place that's trying to be a restaurant. Lots of people sitting around on their laptops. They took up so much space that we didn't have a table to sit at and almost left. Definitely an awesome traditional Vietnamese coffee place to hang out and chit chat. Be forewarned that if you cannot stand second hand smoke (like myself) either sit inside or order to go. The food is quite excellent as I would recc almost anything on their menu but especially the Hu Tieu Nam Vang. The Gypsy platter is great as well if you're there for breakfast. The coffee is strong and the smoothies are creamy, just like how they're suppose to be. There is definitely an eclectic mix of patrons that frequent this place. You have your traditional Viet men that sit and smoke 4 packs of cigs with their one cup of coffee, then there are the aspiring singers in the corner practicing to one day make it on Paris by Night. On the weekends, you will see tons of what appears to be extras from the show Sons of Anarchy; seems like the trend for old Vietnamese men is to buy a Harley and wear as much leather as you can. If you're a sport fan, especially soccer ot futbol, this is the place to be for all the big events (epl, el clasico, champions league, etc) It is quite packed during these time, so get there early for a good spot and be prepared to scream! read more

I came visiting this cafe shop for expecting to watch some soccer games and enjoy the breakfast here as some good advice. I was at the cafe shop about 7 am and there were some people sitting in the shop and reserved the whole area. The service was too bad. there are about 5 waiters in the shop. They are trying to get my orders as soon as possible once I sat down and collected money right away. After collecting the money, they did not care about your presence even I politely ask for some water. They only care about the acquainted customers with food orders. I will never come back to this shop, they only want to get your money without any service. I wish to give them the negative star. Another thing is the wifi. I tried to ask the password to the wifi but the connection is terrible that I could not surf anything. I have to use my own cellular connection. read more

Gypsy Cafe is tucked in the corner of the Catinat Plaza in Little Saigon. Now, I'm not a frequent Vietnamese coffee shop visitor, but I may have to state for the record that I probably won't ever go to one again. Don't get me wrong. The inside of the cafe is fine. The outside was unimpressive -- a few tables with some cheapy chairs. Their food selection was limited (but I guess you go for the coffee, not the food), but they did, however, have a good amount of drinks to pick from. I went with the sunnyside up egg with sausage, cha (pork patty), and pate sandwich with hot chocolate as my drink. BAD IDEA. The sandwich was mediocre, but I was appalled that I paid $6.00 for that $1.50 Banh Mi Cali-style sandwich! I could totally get a way better sandwich at other restaurants/delis for way cheaper.... Damn! The hot chocolate was about $3.00. It was pretty solid, but only because my friend Kat requested the waitress not to make it too sweet. Screw ups witnessed while I was there: 1. Everyone put their orders in for sandwiches.... 20 minutes later, the waitress comes out to tell us they're out of bread. FAILx1. 2. She suggests us to order something else; she is persistent about our group ordering noodles. K, ordering the noodles they go. 3. 10 minutes later, she comes out and tells us no more noodles.... FAILx2. 4. She then is adamant about getting the pork chops with rice. So good. Someone criticizes the beef, and she scowls. The others order pork chops. 5. She returns 10 minutes after ordering the food and tells us there ARE noodles. She asks if we still want them. Uhh, no, stupid. FAILx3. 6. Asked our waitress to bring ice water for the children. She brings them iced Asian tea 10 minutes later. FAILx4. 7. She brings out hot tea after most of everybody in the party has left, leaving three people to finish off tea they didn't order FAILx5. To make a long story short, I spent the next hour in the bathroom after coming home. FAIL. Tummy still hurts, in case you're wondering. :( P.S. There was a bunch of tables and umbrellas outside and a lot of old men smoking and drinking coffee. Kinda gave me this fobby coffeeshop feel minus the girls in bikinis lol... Anyways we sat outside... ( table for 2 ) on a Sunday afternoon 10.26.14 ... Waitress gave us a menu... Pretty basic... I ordered a strawberry smoothie (Sinh To Dau) and my husband got the lemonade soda... We both ordered the macaroni filet mignon shaken beef (Bo Luc Lac)... When we got our drinks OMG it was horrible... the lemonade had no sugar in it we had to ask them to bring out some sugar for us... All we tasted was bland lemon juice and carbonation... I ordered Pho Ap chao. Terrribly disappointed. It likes they soak the noodle with oil and put some beef on top of it and called it Pho Ap chao. I don't think they ever eat Pho Ap Chao. I've been hearing a lot about this place on my instagram. A few of them said that the Hu Tieu Nam Vang was really good so I'd looked up the place and told myself I have to try this place out! So, on my day off today... I've decided to take my best friend there to eat. We parked right in front of this place and all we saw were men. They were drinking coffee and smoking so I thought that it was some small typical vietnamese coffee shop that served food but until I saw a waitress bringing out food to one of the table I said, "oh, okay. Maybe it isn't". So I looked at my friend and she looked at me and asked if this was the right place; I looked up the address and said "we are here". We just shrugged it off and got out of the car and walked up to the restaurant and one of the waitress pointed to a table and told us to sit there and it was way in the back. But seriously, nothing but men there.. Maybe 2 women but that was it with the exception of 4-5 girl waitresses that were working there. Anyways, so we sat down and stared at each other for about 2 minutes because they never came over to give us a menu to look at and then FINALLY a girl came and asked us what we wanted. Well, we couldn't really order anything because we never had a menu to actually start with. I had to ask her for a menu and she just said oh and rolled her eyes and walked away. RUDE! Okay, so whatevers... we looked at the menu and there wasn't much to decide from so I stuck with the idea of coming to try the hu tieu and my friend the macaroni and filet minon. The food came out and we ate it. Looked pretty and all but the food wasn't as crazy as it looked. Macaroni were dry and it tasted like it was just tossed up in some ketchup (looked burnt) and added the filet on top. The hu tieu was a very small portion. It had like 3-4 pieces of meat and maybe a size of a palm noodles and lots of green onion. ALOT. Overall, the mission was a fail and I will not be coming back. I also wanted to add that when we asked for the check, the girl brought it over and stood there and watched us paid.
