First off the server and everyone of the service staff were very helpful and kind, they even helped us find a parking spot. The restaurant inside was beautiful and clean and had a rustic vibe to it all that i loved. However, the food was disappointing. The only good item they had was the pepperoni pizza which was sweet and savory. The margarita pizza was okay and for me not worth the price. We also good the focaccia bread that was dry and hard. The most disappointing item was the spaghetti cacio e pepe dish was which super salty. If the salt was reduced, it would have tasted better but it was just way to salty. I absolutely love Gusto 501 and the other sister restaurants of this brand. I enjoy the dine in experience as the staff are always so wonderful and knowledgeable, not to mention that the decor and architecture are stunning. I also love that you can obtain the same take-out menu and the quality and standards are maintained. Pictured here are some of my favourite dishes to order including the strip loin tagliata with mushrooms which is so succulent, the delicious carote with pistachio and brown butter which makes a beautiful accompaniment, and one of the best tiramisu deserts in the city! I come here or order from these restaurants often and they're all superb! I don't know why we can't give half stars, but I give the Gusto group a 4.5/5! read more

I've been meaning to come here for ages, having heard about their carbonara pizza (more on that later). Doing something else in the area finally presented itself with an opportunity for dinner. Their counterpart on the west side of downtown has always been popular, this one being the newer version opened during the tumult of covid. It's nice to see it's survived in a growing, gentrifying area. Service was excellent and attentive, helpful and honest. To the horror of my friend I tried the rose wine on tap and found it perfectly adequate (and well priced), while she had a glass of more appealing white wine. Food got mixed reviews from us. That pizza I mentioned earlier? Delicious. Incredibly. Before that came out, we had the risotto and house bread. I loved the bread, although a bit of oil to go with would've made it that much better. The risotto fell super flat for both of us, bland and borderline tasteless. I wished we had ordered one of the pastas we saw being delivered around us. Perhaps I'll return next summer when the rooftop patio is open. It seems like a nice spot to enjoy dinner in the warm weather. We are a bit too much into fall for that this year. read more

Went there on a midweek night. You need a reservation as we walked in the Night before and could not get in. Best part is the layout of this restaurant. It is several floors with each floor just few table and nice view to outside from Suomi floors. The server nice and informative. The timing of food is good. The quality is good. I came to visit gusto 501, as I've always had good experiences at their 101 location. Let's start with our seating. They said for a table for 2 we either had the option to be seated immediately on the mezzanine or to wait 1 hour for a table. So we agreed to the mezzanine. This was a bar top facing a staircase which I find extremely dirty. Salt, dirt etc could easily fly on our food and we had a lovely view of people's food and shoes through dinner. On top of that, we saw tons of tables open. We decided to go with basic selections. The margherita pizza and mafalde ai funghi. Both were good but the pasta had exactly 8 noodles. The portion was absolutely tiny. We both left unsatisfied. At most italian restaurants we get a pizza and pasta to share and we're more than full. I've had the mafalde at 101 and the portion is much bigger. This left us wanting more. Probably wouldn't return. read more

Overall: 4.5/5 Walking in on a Sunday night, we were lucky to get seats without a wait given we went around 6:30PM. The place was already packed to the rim in the dining area and we were seated on the second floor at a bar type table that overlooked the first floor and outside street. We were promptly given menus and water for us to look over what we wanted to order. I personally love Gusto 101 so I wanted to see what the hype was about. The menu is largely the same - they have their hit calamari, pizzas, truffle and mushroom pasta, and charcoal grilled steak in addition to some new bits and bobs. The one downside I'd say is how dark the area is. We had to literally use our photo screen to read the menu since the only lighting in that area was 1 candle between every 2 seats. We decided on a calamari to share, I got the lasagna and my boyfriend ordered the steak. Oddly enough, the waitress didn't ask him how he liked his steak so we had hoped that it would be to his liking in terms of rareness when it arrived. The starter quickly arrived and was crispy and batter wasn't super thick. The spices and seasonings used was also very good as it didn't taste too salty and the dipping sauce that came with it paired well with the squid. My lasagna arrived shortly after we finished our app and the presentation was very surprising. I don't think I had ever had a lasagna that looked like a pizza - the outer layers were so so crispy and paired really great with the sauce in the layers. I'd say the portion was pretty good too since I only finished 2/3 if it and was super stuffed. My boyfriends steak arrived with cauliflower two ways and the steak was luckily done medium rare (just how he likes it). Overall a pretty solid meal with beautiful interior in the restaurant, but I wouldn't let that justify a 1 hour wait. I'd happily go to Gusto 101 instead. read more

Other great dishes include the Kale salad (basic but boogie) and beef tartare. They also have in-house wine (red and white) that you can pour by the oz, which lets you either go easy for the night or a hard as you want. Grabbed dinner here with some girl friends yesterday and chose to eat on the patio on the second floor. Was not expecting so many flights of stairs definitely a workout. The restaurant and patio itself was very clean with a nice atmosphere. Service was extremely good! We felt taken care of and valued as customers. The food was also delicious and came out faster that I expected. The drinks we ordered were good too (taste wise & sooo visually appealing). However, they were a little pricey: $19 for 1.75 oz, but we all had a great time and it was overall a pleasant experience :) Would I recommend? Absolutely read more

on the way to gusto, the area hella ghetto and so we did not expect for this nice restaurant to be in the middle of such an area. it truly was a diamond in a rough as the exterior was just as elegant the interior. starting off when we came in we were the first table, our server was nice but we did feel that she did not check up on us as often as she should have. we began with the focaccia bread which was great, but a little stale but went great with the chilli oil. i got the malfade ai funghi and that was truly amazing. a burst of flavours and textures in your mouth. i tried the spaghetti cacio e pepe and though it was nice, i made the right decision in picking the malfade ai funghi. pizza was good, i tried a bit of it but i wouldn't say is anything special. overall highly recommend the malfade ai funghi. atmosphere and the vibe was spot on and i will def be coming back for seconds. read more

We had the best experience last night. The team at Gusto 501 and the Gusto 54 Restaurant Group went above and beyond. I think its safe to say that by the end of the night walking out, we were all a little misty eyed at how well we were looked after. My sister is going through cancer treatment, and was starting her last scheduled round of chemo the next day (today), and wanted to go into that with a good experience that felt as 'normal' as possible. As she is immunocompromised, we had a long list of wishes to make it feel normal while being as safe as possible. We had emailed several venues for private dining spaces that were suitable for our small group, and the Gusto group was so fast to respond with different options. They helped us into a reservation at Gusto 501 where we could be away from crowds. I was very nervous going into the evening, and kept in frequent contact with the team to make sure the plan was still the same, and they were so patient with their responses, assuring us that it was all taken care of. From the moment we arrived, to leaving the venue, we had excellent service from the host, the management team, and our server, Jade. It had been a long while since we got together in that setting, and the team was so patient with us. We are very much looking forward to visiting again when everyone is back to full health! Covid- 19 Take Out Menu Review: Me and my girlfriend picked up dinner from here to kick off the weekend. I had the meatball and the shrimp pasta and my girlfriend had the mushroom pasta. Both pasta were amazing. Could clearly tell they use the best ingredients as every thing was rich and fresh tssting. Quick note on the shrimp pasta, it's perfectly spiced. I had the pepperonccini in the fridge to add but decided I didn't need to. Perfect. I also had the meatballs, amazing.. who doesn't love meatballs. Lastly we shared the fungi pizza. These guys know a thing or two about pizza that's for sure. We will be back and we will be the first ones in their beautiful restaurant opens for full access! I am a big fan of Gusto 101 which is one of the top place to go to in downtown. When I heard about this new location, I was so excited to finally try it tonight. However, the waitlist was 3 hours so we opted to go to the bar on the top floor. While we put our names down to the waitlist, the two guys behind us asked the host if they can go up and she let them go. Once we went up, the two guys took the last spot beside bar. Great! The two waitresses there suggested us to join other people on the tiny circular table that can literally only fit two people. There are maybe only three of those tables and all of them were full. And the rest of the four tables besides the stair are all for walk-in (no idea they have walk-in at this point) and were full. We were really thinking about squeezing in those circular tables to ask how's their date going. But there was suddenly a walk-in table open. So we took it. Then the two waitresses kindly told us that we can't take it because we were on the three hours waitlist because of policy. Are you kidding me? If I knew there are walk-in, why the hell would I take the three hours waitlist. When we were literally the only ones standing on the floor like a clueless idiot trying to enjoy the night, you can't adjust your "policy" to let us sit?! What was even worst was that the two guys jumped before us took the table and the spot they had was token yet again by another two people behind us. Awesome! After that, we were the only ones without a table and were really thinking about to be the third and forth wheels for the other dates. Screwed that, we left and the two great waitresses didn't even apologize or say anything. We went to Mangia & Bevi which we have been before and they offer amazing food and services. Their host even personally apologized and suggested us great dessert alternatives when they ran out of our choices two times in a roll. What a contrast! Bye Gusto 501 will never be back. Gusto 501 is the new hot spot behind the team that owns and operates Gusto 101. This restaurant is a multi level marvel with multiple bars, a restaurant and cafe. We stumbled into this beautiful restaurant for dinner on a Sunday evening and the place was packed. We were lucky enough to snag a spot at the bar to enjoy some drinks and a yummy dinner. I was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant offers several different types of Lambrussco wine. This is a sparkling red wine from Italy that is not very common. The bartender was happy to offer tastings of the different offerings to ensure that we were happy with our beverage selections. Like their sister restaurant, Gusto 501, offers most wines by the glass as by the ounce tasting. This allows you To try many different wines at your leisure by the ounce pours. For food we shared the infamous kale salad to start. This is a classic dish on the menu at Gusto 101 that is a combo of massages kale, Parmesan cheese and pine bites; the dish certainly did not disappoint at this new locale. We then had the boar Ragu served over gluten free penne. The sauce was rich, however the portion size could have been larger. We tried to order the steak for our main dish, however we were informed that the grill was not working for the evening. We opted for a pan seared salmon that is not typically on the menu but the dish was lacking flavour and dry. The main did not come accompanied with any sides or sauces which resulted in a lack of flavour. Overall Gusto 501 has a sexy atmosphere and yummy Italian food. Thus all orders must be placed in person and then waited for = no tip for you. The inside of Gusto 501 is evocative of a minimalist inside-out La Sagrada Familia. It's like eating inside of a modernist cathedral made out of life-size terra-cotta LEGO. The outside is just as cool. All rusty industrial, with a giant wall of glass so passersby can easily peer in and feel jealous. We arrived early on their third day of business and, other than the occasional server struggling to get a dish to the right table, things were running smoothly. Impressive. Our waitress was named Leia and she was lovely. Friendly and really nice with a good sense of humour. We started with the arancini which was tasty. Arancini and suppli are proof of God, and any time they're on the menu I won't complain. The crust on the margherita pizza was amazing, chewy and light at the same time. I might have wanted the pomodoro cooked down a bit to bump up the tomato flavour. But overall, a solid pizza, well priced at $15. The cacio pepe was similarly very good. And I can't imagine carrots tasting any better than the carote here. Peak carrot. Wow. Get this if nothing else. My only complaint was that they are charging $12 for a 16 oz glass of Wellington Upside IPA. Pretty steep. I feel $8 would be more reasonable. Overall a great and welcome addition to Corktown. Finally able to try out Gusto 501. We loved Gusto 101 a lot and been there a handful of times so we were very eager to try this new place out. We went on Sat but they told us the wait was 2 hr 30 mins so we left. Came back Sunday evening and lucky for us there was one table open and it got packed right after we sat down. Gusto 501 decor is nice and fancy, the building it self looks amazing and there is suppose to be a rooftop terrace. Now to the food, we got the Carpaccio $15 to start - it was great would order again. For the mains we got the Mafalade Ai Fungi $23, which they also have in Gusto 101 but I think the one at Gusto 101 was better for some reason. The one we got at Gusto 501 the pasta was way too al dente for our liking. Agnello Arrosto $30 - the lamb here is amazing, it is fall off the bone goodness. The size is on the smaller size but they give you a huge salad. Overall I would order again. I would like to check out the rooftop terrace during the summer months so I will be back for sure. read more

We had reservations for the patio today and had cancelled due to the rain. The restaurant was more than understanding. They had messaged me after the rain had passed to ask if I was still interested as the patio had quickly dried off. We came over right away, and are soo glad we did! The food was amazing and just as I remember at the 101 location that I frequently visited. The staff was super courteous and are honestly champs for being able to work with masks on on such a hot day like today. My friend and I came for dinner at about 6:00pm. To start we ordered a martini each and two appetizers to share, followed by the lasagna to share as well, s glass of white wine and finished off with the kale Caesar. Everything was delicious and came out in a timely matter, we highly enjoyed our experience over all....until the end when we paid our bill at about 7:15pm(in total spent about an hr and 20min max there), 2minutes after as we got our coats on and proceed to take last sip of water before getting up, the "manager" VICK approached our table and abruptly says " hi, can you two please get up we need this table for our next guests" and quickly walked off. We immediately got up in shock and headed out the restaurant. As I got outside and stood there gathering my thoughts as we were rushed out after spending our hard earned money paying over 100$ tab and tipping 25% only to be treated in such a horrible way. I went back in and asked the host if there was a time limit and she said yes it's 1hr45min which was never told to us, but even then we still were under the limit. I expressed my disappointment and frustrations to VICK in respectful manner and all he could say we he's "sorry" but he had people to seat.
