It was a pretty good meal when I visited. I tried the mushroom and truffle spaghetti, fried calamari, and an espresso martini. There was plenty of mushroom on my pasta, which was a positive for me, and I could enjoy the Truffle aroma. Fried calamari was typical. Located inside Union Station, it's really convenient to grab a bite before heading home or going to Scotiabank Arena for an event. Amano is an Italian restaurant in Union station across from Union Chicken. It is a nicer option than the food court (and the prices reflect it) although the menu is limited for Italian. I chose it for lunch one day while I was in town working at the Fairmont Royal York across the street. I had the Nonna salad and added grilled chicken. For $10 it was not a very large portion of chicken, it was only three strips. But the salad was perfect for lunch. We're going to a concert at Scotiabank arena which is nearby so thought we would eat here. Decor is wood top tables with black metals chair that have leather bottoms or is upholstered with black padding. The floor is a wood look light tile. We ordered the arancini appetizer. For our main dishes hubby had the spaghetti & meatballs & I had the gnocchi. We had the garlic herb toast. For dessert I had the biscotti. Hubby enjoyed his dish. I liked the gnocchi but it was a tad too salty for me. The garlic herb toast was delicious. The bread was fluffy & perfectly seasoned. The biscotti was also good. It wasn't super hard so that's one thing I liked about it. LOL. But it also tasted really good. At the end of the meal I was really full but pleasantly so. Our waiter was Robert & he was amazing. Our meal was well paced. Robert was friendly & also gave good advice on what I could safely eat given my dairy intolerance. I cheated a bit with the garlic herb toast as I think that had butter on it. But the amount is small enough for me to handle. Hubby spoke to the manager about Robert as his service was go stellar. Btw, Amano as two bathrooms in the back & they were clean. I'm glad they have their own bathrooms because the other bathrooms in Union station aren't clean. I was actually surprised how nice it was to eat at Amano given it's inside Union station. One thing I will say is that this restaurant gets really busy & loud after 5pm. The USP is Robert! I have never seen such an efficient and hospitable person. I had around 50 mins to catch my train so I decided to have a sit down lunch. Being vegetarian I was impressed to look at the menu displayed at the entrance and soon I was welcomed by Robert and seated immediately. He quickly got me the menu and water and set table as I settled down. Being the only person taking care of all the guests, bar and orders, I was just inspired by his way of handling everything so efficiently and with such details to each guests. Let me tell you the restaurant was full. His service was far better than many fine dine places, which added to my experience and wanting me to go there again Food, I asked for Robert's suggestions and went with it and I am glad I did. The mushroom spaghetti pasta was quite outstanding, which I ordered along with focaccia again very crunchy and loved the pesto layer on top. I am generally not a fan of oil base pasta but this one changed my opinion! There was a good selection of wine and drinks but I chose to stick with water and had an espresso later, which was exceptionally good as well. This is a decent Italian sit down restaurant in the heart of Union Station. There wasn't really anything that stood out from this place however... Service was not great as it took forever for our waitress to visit us and take our order. We didn't get refills on drinks or anything either. We received the wrong sides and had to wait awhile to have them corrected. The food was as the youngins would say mid. The fries were allegedly triple fried but tasted a little under. The Roman style pizza was generic in flavor and reminded me more of frozen pizza. The sandwich my dining partner had was so drenched in mayo, I thought Heinz was sponsoring our meal. Clean, and fairly spaced out, we were seated by one of the windows. We had 8 people. I think generally everyone enjoyed their meal. I'm probably more picky. The meatballs were lacking flavor both the beef and pork meatballs. My spaghetti noodle was vast and I needed more marinara sauce to provide more substance to the dish. I quickly lost interest. Ordered the Spicy Sausage and Pepper Rigatoni and was pleasantly surprised by the spice level. I find too many places label things as spicy and they don't end up being spicy at all, this was not the case. It's not mouth burning but it added a good amount of heat to the dish. The garden salad has more onion than tomato and cucumber. Both are disappointed. Main: I had fish. Fish never get wrong, however the side vegetables not tasty. My friend and I were planning to meet by the Union station to catch up over some good food. I read that this place offers a 20% off all food and non-alcoholic beverages as part of Presto Perks program. So we decided that we'll go and have some good Italian food! We came by on a Friday evening to have dinner. We were warmly greeted by the staff and he gave us a table at the back (we requested a quieter spot). The place was decorated with old photos and candles, it had a cozy vibe. Our waiter was a friendly young man. We ordered Amano Fries to share. I ordered Pesto spaghetti and my friend ordered The Brick Lasagna. Amano fries were delicious- the mix of flavours were so fun! I also enjoyed my Pesto spaghetti, it was smooth, rich, and buttery. My friend enjoyed her lasagna- she said that the layers of goodness was so good! We were so happy to have tried this place and we look forward to more visits! We out here at Amano Italian Kitchen for some Italian food For apps, we got the Prosciutto Plate & the Mushroom Toast which became a quick favourite, the creamy cheese on top goes so well with the mushroom. Obsessed!! For the Main, we went for the Rigatoni Bolognese. It was decent though I wish it was spicier, the chilli flakes helped tho! Finally for dessert, our server recommended we get the Tiramisu & she did not disappoint! The cup was FILLED to the brim and it had a nice combo of cream & cake - truly perfection in a cup! This place defied expectations! I stopped in for a drink and lunch and sat at the lovely bar. My server Robert gave exquisite service throughout my meal and made me feel very welcome to stay as long as I wanted to. Despite the location in busy Union Station, my meal (prosciutto and pear flatbread -- simple but very fresh) was superb and I found myself quite relaxed despite a long day of work travel. I saw Robert seat a few more solo guests and impart the same excellent service; he's truly a gem (and incredibly professional and efficient). All the food looked delicious and the servings were generous (given the fairly reasonable prices). I had to box up my leftovers. I initially came for their good wine list and menu but will return for the service next time I pass through! The ambiance is also worth noting -- music not too loud, lighting bright enough but soft (so I felt somewhat attractive despite my 3am wake up -- no easy feat!). Lots of regulars coming and going. Location is a bit harder to find but it's in union station downstairs. Has a open glass kitchen and they specialize in making fresh pasta. We got Rigatoni Bolognese and it was amazing. One of the better pastas I have had it was cooked perfectly. The Amani burger was good too. Cooked to what tasted like a smash burger with flat crispy edges and was topped with a balsamic onion that was a bit sweet and sour. The calamari fritti was really good too. Fried calamari and shrimp perfectly. The pizza was ok but would definitely recommend the pasta and calamari over the pizza. The Diavola slice was actually spicy and had whole peppers in the sauce and topped with hot honey The dessert board was amazing. Their tiramisu was really good and we could have ate a few more of those. The cookies are freshly baked so they came out warm and the chocolate very gooey. Do NOT go here! The menu looked good, so we booked a summerlicious dinner here. The food and the service was absolutely horrible, the only redeeming quality this place has is the lady that sat us. The ambiance was lacking, I didn't expect much considering its located in union station, but I could have done without a view of two homeless people eating off the ground outside. The food was absolutely disgusting! We ordered the summerlicious menus (see attached). For $35 you get an appetizer, a main and a dessert. For the appetizer I ordered the fig & caramelized onion bruschetta. We mentioned I had an allergy to rosemary, the server came back and said that I could not get the fig & bruschetta pizza then but didn't elaborate why. I said then I would then get the bread and olive oil and he said I couldn't do that with the summerlicious menu. I know Summerlicious is temporary, but when your menu consists of 9 items it's not that hard to know what they are. After pointing out to him that the bread is an option on the Summerlicious menu, he went back and checked the menu again and then finally let me order it. When it came it had 6 small pieces of bread, 2 of which had stuff I was allergic to on it. My fiance got the fennel and cucumber salad as an appetizer. It was 90% raw onion, and had maybe a handful of small pieces of cucumber. Next up was the main courses. I ordered the mortadela and pistachio pizza and my fiance ordered the Osso Bucco. His Osso Bucco was tough to eat and grey in color. My pizza wasn't what I was expecting, but I decided to give it a chance. I took a small bite and it took everything in me not to spit it out. It was undercooked, looked and tasted like supermarket pizza that had been sitting out for a while and was undercooked. It was literally the worst pizza I have had in my life! Our waiter continued his oh so Steller service, would look over and then not come to our table. It was clear I wasn't eating, but it took my fiance flagging him down to get him to come to our table. I mentioned that I was not eating the pizza and asked him to take it away, my fiance said I didn't like it and the waiter just stood there. I said it was literally the worst pizza I have had in my life and that I'm not eating it. He stood there for a few more seconds and then said sorry you feel that way and took it away. He came back to our table about ten minutes later with a menu, I said I'm done with eating here, that they screwed up both of my courses, I don't want the dessert, I don't want more shitty food I'm just done. My fiance asked for his dessert (cannoli) and the bill. He reiterated that I didn't want anything else to eat from this restaurant and that we wanted to leave. The waiter brought the bill and his cannoli shortly after. I noticed that the bill was for full price, I asked why that was considering I sent my food back and didn't eat it. My fiance said we understand if we had to pay for the bread, but we weren't paying for the full summerlicious meal. The waiter said he had to go ask the manager, and after a while came back with my summerlicious meal taken off. I don't get why that even had to be a conversation, you can clearly tell when people aren't enjoying their food. This is a great spot directly inside Union Station. I've seen WVRST many times while stopping by Union to commute home, and of course there is the food court, and take-out type locations like the Danish Bakery or Tim Hortons. I'd run into a friend and we both had trains leaving in a few hours. We wanted to get an alcoholic drink and some food, but weren't feeling WVSRT. We could have trekked to Mill St Brew Pub (the UP Express @ Union), or went to one of the restaurants a short walk from union, but we were worried about the extra time required to commute, wait for a table and order. Taking the escalator from the food court towards WVRST, if you walk straight down the hall, you'll come across a complete/full indoor Italian Restauraunt; Amano Italian Kitchen. If you're ever into the situation where you want to meet a friend for a bite or a meal, but don't necessarily have multiple hours to spare, Amano Italian Kitchen is a great choice. Apart from a full drinks menu (beer, wine and cocktails) they have an extensive Italian Food Option. Salads, Pizza, Pasta, and even Tiramisu for dessert! The menu was not only fresh, but spiced/seasoned perfectly and the service was excellent. Although during some periods you might have to wait for a table, we requested rush service and they were thankfully able to comply which helped us immensely. It is located at ground level of Union station, kinda around a corner. They have a happy hour menu and surprisingly their space is pretty large! I sat at the bar, ordered a glass of wine (happy hour = $1/ounce) and their calamari. The calamari breading was falling off as I was eating it, so disappointed there. Other members of the table wanted to mention it to the kind apologetic server. We then order a different dish each. It came in good time. Mine was warm only and within a few bites, I bit into a super salty rock/item. Water please!!! What da heck was that?? I still managed to finished most of the pasta with squid. However at the bottom of the plate, sadly in the dim room, I saw a short black hair. Mine is long and dyed. My friend's spaghetti came way tooooo salty for his palate that he pushed it aside. To win us over, they gave us bread with dippings. It felt old and not chewy at all. A mini bowl of olives which was nice. Within a couple of minutes, three rice balls. All complimentary because of the three messed up dishes. At the end, they were kind to charge us only one pasta (thank you) and gave us $25 voucher to use next time. Really?? Sorry, but there are plenty of restaurants in Toronto to try since I'm not from that city. Verdict: not sure how they are surviving, but if you want to avoid lots of salt and not cooked food, skip this one and head to union station's food court. The drinks were all delicious, I had the amaretto + lemon sour and loved it. The food was tasty, even the weird truffle potato pizza that I had to try. They didn't get 5 stars because who sends out burnt bread...its so noticeable that its burnt. If a cook thinks that's appropriate, and then so does the waiter bringing out the food doesn't say something, then the establishment doesn't deserve a perfect score, IMO. What a lovely surprise! My boyfriend wanted to take the initiative to plan our date night. By surprise he took me here for dinner and I was thoroughly impressed with his research and reservations for the evening. It was our first time here. We didn't know what to expect but he said Amano had a fair amount of great reviews and he found this gem on BlogTo. We were seated right after the first group as we waited for the hostess to seat them. The place had a very old smell to it once you walk in through the double doors. The atmosphere and decor is what we expected from an Italian restaurant. It's got a very manly vibe to it. The server kindly took our orders and the food arrived in a timely manner. We were famished so everything we tasted was amazing including the calamari fritti, bone marrow with pinsa blanca, rigatoni bolognese, and mushroom scallop risotto. Shockingly, it was not very salty, like most Italian restaurants we've dined in. It was all so perfect to our liking. Another shocker was that they were sold out of sparkling water! We arrived to be told that a hood vent was malfunctioning and the kitchen had to be shut down. The restaurant gave us two $20 coupons to be used for our next visit for the hassle. I went to lunch with my bf to use the coupons. Unfortunately, the food was just ok. I had a mushroom/ricotta crostini to start and the gnocchi. BF ordered the tagliatalle. The crostini was good- although the bread could have been a little crunchier as the ricotta soaked the surface quite quickly. The gnocchi had great flavour, but was overcooked. The gnocchi were small pillows, and I also prefer big pillows. It was really quite mushy on most bites. Bf didn't love his tagliatelle at first, but he said it grew on him enjoyed it. I thought it needed more flavour- maybe garlic, or salt. To me, it tasted like pasta with canned margherita tomato sauce and some meat. Service was attentive. I liked our server. Boyfriend and I came for summerlicious and got the 3 course meal for $23: APPETIZER: Anchovy & Hazelnut Romesco Toast--Thin piece of anchovy on top of half of piece of crunchy nutty multigrain toast. A lot of salsa and nutty flavour. Stracciatella, N'duja Sausage and Pesto Toast -- I preferred his appetizer better; more creamy and sweet. ENTREE: Lil' Buns (Cavatelli) (vegetarian)--Generous plate of arugula pesto with some sprinkled pieces of roasted walnuts and a dollop of avocado puree. Personally, I would prefer it with more pecorino. But true to italian pasta, it's very al dente. Long & Skinny (Spaghetti) (vegetarian/local)--plain spaghetti with grass fed butter and pecorino. I think it would be better with some meat of some kind or peas or something, I found it too plain. DESSERT: Cannoli (white chocolate and lemon)-- rich and creamy like a cheesecake. With crunchy white chocolate bits at the end. Affogato (espresso and ice cream)--delicious!! my favourite part of the meal. the coffee has a nice roast flavour and not bitter, I just wish there was more of the dessert, it disappeared so quickly It's a fancy place when you have thick quality paper napkins, black dessert napkins, a little comment card coaster and a new cutlery with every new dish. The location is perfect for those commuting into and out of the city. It'd be best to enter through the York St doors and then the restaurant is on the lefthand side. I'd passed by multiple times but never went in until a catch up session with a friend.There were plenty of tables available at 6 pm on a Wednesday evening. The waitress noticed that I didn't know where to put my bag so she kindly mentioned that there's hooks underneath the table for purses. The menu is very small and simple (there's not a whole lot of choice) but that's okay but it makes it easier to narrow down what I want. The waiter wasn't well versed in the menu and had to go ask someone else a couple of times for the answer. I had the braised beef cheek while my friend had the watermelon salad and octopus. The salad but a bit odd to her but she enjoyed the octopus. The beef cheek was so tender and flavoured just right. There wasn't much accompanying it though, some overly charred potatoes (to the point where it's completely black on one side), mushrooms and green veggies at the bottom. The dish was swimming in oil so I had to squeeze out as much as I could when I had the veggies. The waiter checked on us to make sure we were alright throughout our dinner. This is an amazing restaurant I highly recommend it! We did the 4 course tasting menu so I got to try many different menu items and they were all great. What a hidden gem! We stumbled upon this cute Italian spot while we were vacationing in Toronto. We were exploring the train station (union station) because it was right across the street from our hotel. Tons of cute shops and food options but be sure to try this place. This is a great place to hangout after work or lunch hours for those who is working in and around union station.. just inside the concourse opposite to Union chicken. Conveniently located place is Italian and love their menu. Even though I only got to try their bakery items so far.. it's not bad for a place like this. The interiors are quite amazing and great. Love their bar/takeout place as you may also seat in case you decided to chose a take out but wanted to stay back. The staff is very friendly and courteous. So far I tried their coffee (cappuccino and double espresso) and cannoli. The filling was a lot more than expected and the subtle sweetness of the orange is very good.. not too sweet but flavours are there :) read more

Who doesn't love pasta? I love this place, it's located right in Union Station - super convenient to grab a quick bite or glass of wine before hopping onto the train ride home. By the time I get off work, depending on the day that I've had - it's hard to plan for happy hour. Amano has happy hour from 2pm to 5pm and their food is always delicious. Happy Hour Menu: - a dollar an ounce for wine - 5 bucks apps equals amaaaaaaazing. Went with coworkers last thursday and we each had 18 ounces each. We also ordered the calamari which was full priced, still delicious splitting it between us three. We also ordered two orders of the arancini which was recommended by our friend. Oh how it was delicious. We were enjoying ourselves too much and decided to eat dinner too. The two ordered the tagliatelle pasta and I ordered the mushroom tagliatelle. Big mistake, mine was good but theirs was hearty and delicious. After we ordered dessert to end our Thursday. I ordered the pannacotta which was absolutely delicious. The service was great, the server even came to ask us if we wanted to order more wine before happy hour was over and most places NEVER do that and we appreciated it. The food was delicious that we had to come back on Friday to try their winterlicious menu (AND enjoy their happy hour). Their winterlicious menu was super surprising. For 33 bucks, we got apps, entree and dessert.Their caesar salad was amazing. Everyone knows that caesar salad is just a caesar salad but their mussel flavoured dressing was so sjdlasjldajlk amazing that I crave it all the time now. It's definitely not your ordinary caesar salad and oh my fellow salad eaters - do try it! Entrees, I got the dome pasta it was delicious but I think I prefer the mushroom tagliatelle pasta instead. Dessert: Of course I got the pannacotta again! DO come here. The food is really amazing. I can't wait to bring my hubby to the one at Upper canada mall! Amano explained in one word: meh. Like others mentioned, it's pricey to match its location in Union Station. Unfortunately, I the food and experience didn't match. The pasta is freshly made (and you can tell that it is), but the sauce and portions leave much to be desired. My dessert was $9 and was finished in 3 bites, too. I'll pass next time. read more

First off, this place is not for the directionally challenged. It took me a good 30 minutes and looking like a China tourist to find where EXACTLY this place was. I finally found the place - hint it's underground sort of near the food court. The establishment is very cute - you can hardly tell that it's inside the station. It's very "instagram model-esq" so I do applaud them for their decor. As for their food, I went there for SUMMERLICIOUS (hurray cheap meals) and i got the following: App: Charred Broccoli Guys, Fs in the chat. This thing was DRENCHED in olive oil. Like no joke, I saw more oil than broccoli and salad. I felt my arteries clog, so I don't think you should order this app in general. Main: Domes Ravioli This one was pretty good, but it wasn't anything mind blowing. It was definitely filling though, even though the plate didn't look like it Dessert: Panna Cotta THIS IS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF. Oh god, I would've paid $33 for this by itself. It was a pudding that tasted like the gods themselves. 10/10 would recommend this one, even on a regular menu. read more

Conveniently situated inside union station. The ambiance was warm and comfortable. Service was good and attentive. Appetizer (under the "Shoot first Ask Questions Later" section) Snapper Crudo was not bad with the pickled mussels and yoghurt dill, the small pickled mussels were nice addition to the dish, at least it's different from the good old boring smoked salmon. I've ordered the Black Trumpets (under the "Not your Nona's pasta" section) the pancetta were a bit over powering and maybe more crab will help. It was way too salty at first but the waitress was helpful and provided me with a new dish that is less salty. I've also tried the fat tube rigatoni (under the Pasta staples section), with Ontario beef bolognese. Not bad. The beef was nicely done. In comparison, the ragotoni tasted much better than the Black Trumpets. Happy Endings: Stuffed Pastry (Canoli) mascarpone, white chocolate, candied citrus. I usually don't like desserts because my mentality is that any extra calories I can take in, I rather save my quota for savoury food or more seafood. I was never a huge fan of canoli. But this one was beautifully done. ($4) The mascarpone tasted very fresh, almost felt like ice cream inside. The pastry texture was good, not too soft, nicely done and tasty! read more

Rafael the sommelier was fantastic!!!! Super knowledgeable and nice! The running joke with our group the rest of the weekend was we hope we run into him again. I gave him an idea of what we wanted and he was so happy to recommend a wine AND the wine was outstanding! It's worth going here just for Rafael! Also the food was very very good!
