I really wanted to like this place because I love a good bbq and this place usually looks pretty busy on a weekend so its got to be pretty good, no? Timm was our server and since my dad and I were visiting the restaurant for the first time, he gave a number of recommendation as we were exploring the menu and asking about how much food one gets with their order. The portions are large. You're going to get your money's worth when it comes to how much food you're getting so come with an appetite to finish whatever is on your plate because, in my opinion, bbq loses quality when you try to reheat it a day later. The atmosphere of the place is pretty lively and Gus's makes a great place to come with a large group of friends looking to hang out in a cookout atmosphere. Now to the negatives with some of the food. My dad and I shared the BBQ quesadilla and I had the picnic platter with baby back ribs, fried chicken and pulled pork and my dad ordered the Texas Prime beef brisket sandwich. The bbq quesadilla was pretty tasty. I would definitely get this again. The prime beef brisket in the sandwich was dry and I think the kitchen was trying to hide this by generously slathering it in bbq sauce. Were they having an off day or because we were eating an early dinner around 5pm, the kitchen was sending out meat that was left over from lunch time so it was sitting under a heat lamp? The baby back ribs were pretty good but the pulled pork was a bit bland and I couldn't really taste the "signature rub" they claimed to use and the fried chicken looked good(it was recommended by Timm) but when you took a bite, it tasted like it was cooked in oil that was going bad. Go to spot for my family at The Vineyards. Food is tasty and consistent at a more than fair price. Whiskey flights are also a great deal! We've enjoyed most items on the menu but some special call outs are the baby back ribs, any of the burgers, including sliders, and pulled pork nachos. We got seated outside which was nice and there was plenty of room. My aperol spritz was delicious and the best part of my meal. I got the eggs with bacon. Note: Yelp is good to provide constructive feedback to the restaurant but I don't like it if the customers are using it to complain when they never brought it to their attention and using this media to complain about them. (I finished the whole thing, but definitely could've saved half if I was being more responsible.) The servers are always friendly and helpful. There is additional parking on the back side. This busy shopping center can get tricky. My biggest gripe is you can only get their fried pickles (and happy hour menu) during happy hour. You can't order them to go during that time, and they won't serve the menu other time even at a higher cost. Their fried pickles are SO good.
