We love Gus' BBQ and this is our favorite location. I've had the catfish sandwich, brisket, smoked sausage, baby back ribs, and it's all delicious. As a Texas native it's probably the best BBQ I've had in LA that isn't stupidly overpriced. We drive out from Santa Monica because the BBQ places around us just aren't that good and are overpriced. Great BBQ here! It was my first time and I loved it! The ambiance inside was really fun and upbeat and the food was just amazing! I really loved the Onion Strings & the Pulled Pork Nachos were SOOO GOOD!!!! We got the Ribs & 2 Meat Combo with Mashed Potatoes & Creamed Corn. Location 4: Located in the new Vineyards complex in Porter Ranch. Plenty of free parking, but none real close to Gus'. A little bit of walking is required. Handicap drop-off is not very good as there is a stretch of public lawn and seating between the restaurant and the driveway. Venue 3.5: New venue that was finished just before COVID hit and devastated the dining industry. It is now just starting to come into its own. One particular complaint that I have is that the outside seating is not comfortable and stylish. Utility-style metal chairs and tables, no place mats, and many of the chairs do not have backs (they are more like short stools). This may be the vibe that they are going for, but for it does not commensurate with the prices they are charging. Service 3.5: Our server was OK. We had to ask for utensils, a couple of times. Filling our water glasses was infrequent and took time. Visits to check on us were not as frequent as I like, given the type of establishment. As a barbeque place, they should offer wet napkins or other means of recovery from eating messy barbequed food, but there wasn't any. The manager, however, was nice enough to stop by and check on us, and to personally thank us on our way out. Food: 4: They offer appetizers, some Southern dishes, sandwiches, a large selection of barbeque plates (it is after all called Gus' BBQ!), and of course dessert. The BBQ Brick Chicken is highly recommended. Extremely juicy and nicely flavored. Carolina Style Pulled Port and the Texas Beef Brisket were also very good. The BBQ Chicken Sandwich and Pulled Pork Sandwich left us a little bit underwhelmed. Drinks: 3.5: Full Bar. Some specialty drinks. Good selection of premium whiskeys (Bourbon, Rye, and American). They had 12 beers on tap, all from microbreweries, and 9 conventional ones in bottles or cans. The wine list was mainstream and relatively small. The House Old Fashioned was just OK. Nothing special and very small. Their Grey Goose Martini was OK, but not strong. The beers on tap were nice and cold. The 22 oz. is a good value at $9, only a dollar more than the 16 oz. They also have Shakes and Malts! The Last Word: 4: Nice BBQ restaurant which I will happily visit again. Good food and nice environment. I hope they can improve outdoor seating and their service. Went here with to family get some take-out for the New Years holiday. They told us to come pick up our order in 25 minutes, and it ended up taking upwards to 45 minutes to receive our order and go home. We got a couple chicken sandwiches, and a couple servings of pulled pork nachos. The food was soggy, and half of it had to be warmed up to enjoy. However, that was not the end of the story: Three out of my five family members whom had the pulled pork nachos got food poisoning and were vomiting the entire night following our meal. Another nice afternoon celebrating Happy Hour on Friday with my wife. This was the first time we decided to order from the Happy Hour menu and it did not disappoint! Great deviled eggs and the bourbon and Burger were so delicious, plenty of food and love their fries. The staff is always very friendly and service is excellent. I LOVE (Beef) Brisket, so I was really looking forward to trying it here, as I'd heard good things about Gus's! I even asked our server if the Brisket was "very tender", and she said it definitely was! But apparently, her definition of "very tender" was quite a bit different than mine. It was "okay" - but not particularly "tender" - a little dense, kinda "chewy", and more visible fat around the upper edges of the slices. I might go there again to order something different, but since ("tender") Brisket is actually one of my favorite barbecued meats, it was quite a letdown. I dined here on a Sunday morning at 11am and it was packed! Luckily we had a reservation. We were seated at a table in the patio which was great since we had young kids with us. The brunch menu offers lots of options from sweet stuff like pancakes and savory items like omelettes. I ordered the chilaquiles - they were just ok. Not enough cheese, the ham, chips, and eggs were soggy, and I ended up pouring bbq sauce and sour cream on it because it needed some oomph. My son ordered the kids silver dollar pancakes and they were really tasty... fluffy, perfect. The onion strings are also DELICIOUS, but then our waitress took them away when she cleared the table instead of seeing if we wanted to take them home. Service was also super slow and it took forever to get our food, which was frustrating, but like I said, it was packed. I also ordered the Aperol spritz and a coffee. The worst service!! Been to this restaurant at least 4 times since 2022. The recent visit was Saturday, July 5, 2025. It never fails, all visits were horrible experience. The service is horribly SLOW from hosts, to servers. Waited 10 minutes for the server to come and at least introduce themselves, ask to start us with something to drink but no server. I had to get up, speak to the manager to inform. Waited 40 minutes for our food to come! Wow!!! 40 minutes?!!!! And our order was breakfast. Why 40 minutes for an omelette!? It was like this then on our very first visit in 2022. It's now 2025 and no changes! They are the second worse service restaurant I've ever dined it to. Never again!!!! I don't give 5 stars easily but this little spot hit all the cravings and all the savory factors looking for. I have the fried chicken, garlic mash and greens and were truly delicious. Each plate that came to our table looked exactly like the photos. Husband had catfish and tartar sauce was 5 star itself. The food was not oily, or full of salt or sugar. Came here on a Sunday afternoon and was seated right away. It was busy, where we were sat, it looked almost full. It took about 10 minutes before we got water to our table but our server Nicholas was understandably trying his best. He was great at trying to get to us as fast as possible. There were three tables with a party of 5+ people and I just went with my boyfriend so I get it! For food, I ordered the catfish and chips and my boyfriend got the half rack of the ribs. The fish was cooked perfectly. It flaked off as soon as my fork hit it and the crust outside was nice and crispy. I do have to say that the crust was a tiny bit saltier than what I would have liked but to be honest, that is my personal preference and I still thought my dish was delicious. It also came with a spicy tartar sauce which I didn't love so I ended up just eating it by itself. Sides: baked beans and mac & cheese. I loved the baked beans! They are so different. The mix of beans and the flavor was so good. Mac and cheese was nothing special.
